No idea how any of that happened to Jennie N., but I've been going to John for a long time now. I originally found John on Craigslist, after having issues with my 1999 Ford Explorer. I went to Xoi Transmission first, who demanded $1600 to fix the car, and told me the issue I had was in fact, a transmission problem. After "fixing" the issues, he told me it was actually electrical, and took me to his friend. However his friend was rude, abrupt, and wanted over $2000 to fix the electrical problem I had. The dealership, wanted $1600 to fix the problem. And then I found John. John told me, that the transmission was never fixed in the first place, so wanted $800 to fix the transmission. After that, he said he also found an electrical problem, in which he took to his friend (and I also authorized). So all this, was fixed for $1000. Which was quite a bit less than the original bill that Xoi Transmission and his buddy had quoted me. AND, the problem was fixed. I also bring my 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata here, and there has never been any issues with any of the tune ups/oil changes/brake changes that I've done here. I've even left the car here over the weekend, and not so much as a scratch has ever landed upon my car. John has always been upfront, and honest with me, and his prices have always been affordable. This mechanic is first rate. He does great work, quickly, reliably and honestly. I have taken several vehicles to him over several years and have NEVER been disappointed. Best thing is that his prices are the lowest I have seen anywhere. If you have an older vehicle that needs some TLC, John's is the only place I would ever take it. Those one star reviews are scams. I have to say I have read a couple of the negative reviews and that they do not match my experience with John. One review talks about replacing a transmission for $1,000 and then the transmission didn't work in a short time frame. Is this review or kidding? $1,000 how to replace a transmission with a used transmission is a remarkable price. I suspect there is more to this story then the reviewer is telling. You cannot buy a used rebuilt transmission and put it in a truck for $1,000 total price. Which means the transmission had to come out of a junkyard where you take your chances if it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure that John would tell any customer this and that he can only guarantee his work not the transmission. I have had John do a lot of work on both my van and Toyota. The work has been both priced fairly and done in an excellent manner. John is the best mechanic I have worked with in 40 years of driving. read more

Ok lets start with johns customer service: .john is a complete asshole. I asked him a question about my truck over the phone . Since my truck had been at his shop for a week. Due to him not fixxing it right the first time . . Man can you beleave this guy started to scream at me over the phone sayong he wasnt going to work on my truck. He said nothing was wrong with my transnssmisson. But he had swapped out my transsmisson.but for him to scream at me over the phone . Im glad i didnt give him any of my money. His warrenty is like is work .trash. for a buisnes owner to scream at a coustomer that payed 1k for a repair he is very lucky he didnt catch a right hook thru the phone. Save your self the head ache an worry that somwthing else will go wrong with your vehicle here . All the other reviews talk about how there car didnt make it home or something else went wrong. That raises alot of worry an questioning .. john over all is a complete asshole . He just wants you out. From what it seems he doesnt really have an idea what he is doing . DO NOT GO HERE!! i made a yelp account so i could specifically give this shady place a review! my dad went here recently to replace the transmission on our 2001 ford expedition. john had told my dad he would fix it for 800. they both agreed on the price. my dad comes back to the shop to pick up the car and john says he can't take the car home because the rear right wheel needs to be fixed. the tire was even MISSING without my dads permission. john had the car keys and the missing tire so my dad couldn't take the car home even if he wanted to. my dad ends up calling the police. the cop tells john to replace the wheel and have my dad pay only the 800 that was agreed. cop leaves. john then demands 850. my dad calls the cops again and the cops say its a civil matter and take it to court. my dad just ends up paying john 850. this whole ordeal happened within a 2-3 week time span of my dad having to go back and forth to the shop to talk to john and to the police. SHADY SHADY SHADY!!! how john's shop got 5 stars in the review below, is beyond me. save yourself money, time, and headache and don't go here! i give this place -850 stars. read more

Wow after seeing other peoples review that he scammed other people Im definitely going to small claims .... if anyone wants to reach me I will be filling paperwork on this guy if you like to be part of the claim... I took my truck to this guy John and we talked on the phone and I was very specific that I needed the truck done the same day and he said ok ill have it done by 5 and ill do it for 175. I said great dropped of the truck. When I called him at 5 he was very rude said he was busy and just yelled "tomorrow!!" I already knew what was going on. I waited 5 days to get my truck in addition to that he said the trans was the wrong one and that he needed to make adjustments and it will be an additional 100 dollars. I spoke to him told him we agreed on a price he said its more work so now he wants an extra 100 from me. Eventually he finished my truck on the 5 day when I picked the truck up I drove it home the next day there was a huge poodle of transmission oil in my driveway. I called him and told him and then made a excuse said some bogus crap that one of the bolts on the inside was leaking I knew he was lying he tried to charge another 250 saying the trans was bad but he could fix it. My friend is actually a mechanic and I didn't want to wait for him because he was gone for the weekend but that was a big mistake on my part. When he back we did the job together we noticed where the leak was coming from and it was do to not properly installing the transmission. He could have damaged a perfect transmission I purchased.. After me and my friend finished the job now the truck has zero leak and is running great. If it wasn't for the court system I would deal with this guy myself but I don't beat this guy senseless I rather just see him out of business... Yes, this place quoted me the lowest price. However, I question that it's possible to get a rebuilt tranny for the price that I was quoted. I paid a few hundred more and went to a place that positively installed a rebuilt transmission into my car (not a used one!!) and I haven't had any issues. Sometimes, the lower price is a lower price for a reason. read more

John rebuilt my wife's Lexus RX AWD transmisison for good price and works well last 30k miles. His price is cheap so I referred lots of my buddies there to fix their BMW, Mercedes for good prices compare to most BMW , MB only shops and he lets them bring their own parts so they know he's not ripping them off on parts cost and still have OEM parts installed. He's a small shop and does most of the work himself so it's may be slow but better than most other shops that hires mimimum wage installer swapping parts only. He works on your car so no you know it gets done right that's why I trust him only. read more

I was referred to this person by a co-worker to fix my 98 civic auto transmission. Original quote was $875. Within 5 miles of driving it from the shop after being fixed, the check engine light came on and car started overheating. the engine code was transmission related (failing lock solenoid). i took it back, the shop cleared the light fixed the overheat (they forgot to re-fill coolant) and drove it home. Transmission failed less than 20 miles later. Towed the car at my own expense (80 dollars), fixed it again. I then drove the car again, broke again. This happened 5 times in less than 6 months and less than 5000 miles being put on the rebuild. i started to think this guy has no clue on how to rebuild. i took it to him one more time and threatened him that I will take him to claims court if he doesn't fix it this last time; he installed an external transmission cooler and the transmission was working. since then i sold the car, and in total, i ended up paying around 1100-1200 for the work, if towing and external cooler are added to the cost. i should have known better than to take it here because there were other cars that kept coming back to the shop. i learned two lessons from the experience. (1) you get what you pay for. (2) don't buy a used honda with an automatic transmission. i will not do business with this garage again, and do not recommend anyone to go here, unless you want to keep coming back with the same problem. this shop uses aftermarket parts in their rebuilds, and does not use quality fluids. In fact, i saw the mechanic use 76-brand ATF in my honda, I made him drive to the honda dealer to buy the correct fluid. the guy cuts corners, DO NOT GO HERE. Oh, I forgot to mention, when the transmission was being rebuilt, they normally remove the front wheels for access. They forgot to tighten the bolts on the passenger front wheel, causing it to vibrate at speeds greater than 65 MPH, and eventually caused a massive blowout of a new tire (from the inner sidewall) on the freeway. Not only did the shop not torque the lugs to spec, i almost got into a serious accident and could have hurt others. Please, for your sake and others, DONT DO BUSINESS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I had been looking around to get the transmission on my car rebuilt and John told me he'd do it for less than $900. I thought "Woo-Hoo" that was GREAT! The car worked for about 2 weeks and then broke down with all these problems. He said it needed a new starter so he installed a new one and a week later I was back to having a non-working car! Decided to take it elsewhere and the mechanic said whoever put the starter in, did a really bad job. I ended up having to pay for a new starter and he had to replace other parts because the starter starting messing up other parts! Beware oh John's auto shop! It is so hard to even give one star, I brought my Suburban in last Friday for a rebuild on my transmission. He gave me a great price of 800.00, just picked it up and now it has a blown motor, how the hell does that happen? I called around for repair prices and found out that even having my car towed to his shop for 150.00 it was still cheaper to have him do the work. I think he likes the work he is doing and enjoys have happy customers, he will not rip you off, does honest work and even drove back to his shop at night to give me the key to my car when I arrived at 11PM. read more
