It's versatile, fun to drive, and gets great mileage. My Clubman now has about 95,000 miles, and my son's Mini has over 125,000 miles -- both still running beautifully thanks to British Worx. This shop has been our go-to for years because of their honesty, integrity, and genuine kindness. They always take the time to explain exactly what's going on and what parts are needed. Recently, I had a coolant leak, and they diagnosed and repaired it quickly and professionally. In the past, I've taken my car to Crevier Mini for repairs, but felt they charged a bit high and in some cases, found more issues with my car than usual. When they quoted me a four figure estimate for a valve gasket replacement and claimed it was a concern that I needed to address immediately, I decided to check for an independent mechanic. My dad and I looked up this shop and saw it had great reviews and decided to reach out to them. They are very prompt and responsive, and encouraged me to come in so they could take a closer look. I agreed to come in on a Friday morning when they opened. They're located past Irvine Spectrum. The shop has a small parking lot - I was fortunate to find a spot when I went over. (Otherwise you'll have to do street parking.) Please note they do have some chairs in the front, but it's not a lounge or lobby equipped for working in while waiting for them to look at and repair your vehicle. I recommend if you have a friend or family member that they come with you in their car and then you can ride with your friend/family member to somewhere else or back home while waiting for your car. I did Uber over to Irvine Spectrum and tried to work in Starbucks while waiting. The team there are very friendly and knowledgeable. They explained everything to me and did admit that some dealerships like the one I came from tend to pre-diagnose car issues or they might play up issues when there really isn't urgency. The guy who helped me explained how I would know if the valve gasket was failing and said he would check to be sure. Additionally, he agreed to do my oil change as well. I left and about 20 minutes later, I heard back from the team in photos and messages that my car was not experiencing the gasket issues that Crevier had cited. They checked everything and confirmed I was fine. The only thing they suggested I take care of was to replace the air filters in addition to the oil change, which I accepted. My car was ready minutes later and I headed back to the repair place. Cost for repairs were much more competitive and easier to stomach. It's a shame I didn't find these guys sooner before my move across the country. But if I'm ever back in CA and have my Mini experiencing issues, I would trust these guys hands-down. read more

So, Zoey wasn't feeling well on my last road trip down to San Diego. Not bad enough to put her down, but enough that I parked her, grabbed a rental and made arrangements to have someone look at her under the hood. So glad I found British Worx online. Spoke with Ken - pretty much from beginning to end. Great communication. Both via text messages and via voice. Explained everything in detail even to where someone like me understood what was wrong and what was needed. Not gonna get into that as I'm not a car nerd and I'd probably explain it wrong. But here's what I will share: Night drop off. Excellent. Complete the form on an envelope that you drop your keys into and slide thru the the mail slot. Didn't have to be there when they opened shop to go over anything as communication started with a confirmation that they had Zoey in the shop. Yada yada yada - text message later in the day that all repairs, complete and she's ready to hit the road. Got there, spoke with Ken and drove her right off their property. It's been a week now and there hasn't been one issue at all. She feels like she's almost brand new. If you know the Mini brand, you know that repairs aren't cheap. But if they're done right it shouldn't matter. I brought my mom's Mini Cooper her to get the passenger side mirror replaced (it was cracked). I had to ordered the mirror the day before using the vehicle's VIN number. The procedure took something like 10 minutes. I was in and out. Checking in with Yelp got me a $25 discount. I consider the place a cheaper and quicker maintenance and repair shop for Mini Cooper's. They have an after hours drop box for those that need to leave their car and keys to it. The one thing the British Worx OC can't do to a Mini Cooper is make a copy of a key. read more

I drove my 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman All 4 from New York City to Orange County to visit my family and friends. Two weeks into my stay my poor Francesca (yes that's her name) started misfiring and I was devastated as to why she was misfiring and driving poorly. Francesca is 11 years old with 55,666 miles (which included the mileage driving across country 4 times as a New Yorker I obviously don't need to drive her much). My brother who is a mechanic ran some diagnostic test which showed that the spark plugs needed to be changed. After changing the spark plugs and further inspection he noticed that cylinder 1 kept misfiring and recommended we take Francesca to British Worx OC as they had great reviews on fixing Mini Coopers. When I called and explained the problem Ken was extremely patient, knowledgeable and understood the time constraint I was under as I had to drive back to New York City within a few days. Upon arriving at the shop Ken was personable, friendly and professional. Ken understood my concerns and listened patiently as my brother provided the diagnostics he found. The conversation between them two went well above my head however I noticed that Ken asked well thought-out questions regarding Francesca and what previous work was done. I was impressed and so was my brother. He asked a bunch of questions about Francesca like a doctor and that's when I knew British Worx OC is like a BMW/Mini Cooper hospital. Ken also gave a realistic timeline about how long it would take (which I really really appreciated. Mechanics in New York City typically give me some ambiguous timeline which is annoying especially since I have a busy schedule). Ken provided suggestions of what could cause the problem and asked that she stay overnight so they could examine Francesca in depth. I felt extremely comfortable and I had a strong impression that British Worx OC knew what they were doing. Next day Ken called me with what the problem was...Francesca needed replacement of ignition coils on cylinder 1 however because I was driving back home to NYC and the other 3 coils were very worn and old, I decided to take Ken's recommendation and have all 4 coils replaced. I also appreciated that I was told that my water pump pulley outer rubber surface was cracked and coming apart and that the drive belt needed to be replaced at some point. Well, since I knew I had 2,788 miles ahead of me to drive I didn't want to take any chances of breaking down on the interstate and decided to have these replaced as well. There were NO SURPRISES to what my cost would be. The invoice had suggestions of what could be fixed so I could see what I can do within my budget. British Worx OC gave me frequent updates and as a courtesy fixed my passenger side reflector that fell off during a rainstorm I encountered in Nebraska on my way to California. A repair that was unexpected however very much appreciated. Overall, when I went to pick up Francesca I was truly blown away by my experience and how well she was driving. My girl was fixed running so smoothly and ready to make the long drive back to New York City. The transparency, the professionalism, the work is on a different level of superiority; I've never experienced this level of quality anywhere else before in California or New York. Have been taking my car for several years to British Worx OC. The last time I took it they could not find the problem for days. They did a complete tune up oil change $3,000 in repairs. They then finally figured out it was a OEM part that had water damage. All the other repairs were 100% unnecessary. The pictures show the complete mess with the oil pan they caused. So after spending $3,000 dollars for useless repairs, left with a mess and nonfunctional Mini, I had to spend another $500 to fix their oil mess at a dealership and $3,500 to fix the single original issue the OEM part. $7,000 dollars six months later I finally have my car back. $3,500 in unnecessary repairs all caused by British Worx OC. read more

My '04 Mini S is getting to the point where things are starting to go south even through the mileage is not that high. I took it in to British Worx OC due to all the five star Yelp reviews and my fellow Yelpers did not steer me wrong. The owner John explained what had happened and the cost to fix it was much less than what I was expecting. They are not open on the weekends but John was going to be at the shop on Saturday and he told me to meet him there to pick up my car. He explained that if I need to pick it up after hours they leave the keys in the drop box. I got $25.00 off for a Yelp check in and I completely trust John to take care of my little red Mini from here on out. I've been bringing it to him for my normal service ever since. He's done the brakes on it and this week replaced a leaking gasket he found during the most recent service inspection. Miniworx is really John, the Owner, and Ryan, the mechanic. These are "car guys" supreme and it shows. They not only know the Mini but they know cars in general and that's always good. I've always been very leery about writing a review for an automotive service business because it seems people's experiences are across the board. But in this case, I can tell you that Miniworx is one of those rare examples of honest service for a good price. You have to be careful with Minis because everybody says they can service them, but they have many idiosyncrasies which need to be handled correctly. A Mini is not a Chevy or a Toyota or a Honda. Love 'em or not (and I do), they need TLC and the RIGHT service. In my case, John and Ryan did just that. So you don't think I'm blowing smoke up yer keester, I'll tell you why I was there. My Mini was handling like crapolla. Turns out the control arms were shot, engine and strut mounts cracked, etc. Also my A/C was not working. John was nice enough to wait on everything and asked me to come in so he could SHOW me exactly what was wrong and why it was bad. Now, I'm a long-time car guy myself, but it was nice -and rare- to be shown what was wrong with the car, in person. There's something good and honest about that. John further saved me a bunch of money by suggested a re-furbished part instead of a new one for one of the issues I had. That's great and honest service. Your Mini will love it here. It's clean and quiet and these guys know their Minis. I wish I could give this place 50 stars!! I've had two MINI Coopers in my lifetime - a 2006 and then a 2013. I haven't been as pleased with my latter MINI (changed engines on the newer MINIs, electronic system, etc.) and have some issues I didn't have with the first. On my way to work today, my engine malfunction light popped up as I was going up hill (darn those south OC hills!). I noticed my car was driving a little sluggish lately and having trouble put-puttering when I would shift gears. I felt like "The Little Engine That Could" struggling up hill in my little MINI Coop. I got really worried and my imagination got the best of me. "Holy cow, I'm going to die... Turn your hazards on, Diana... You're going to need to get a new engine and it's going to cost an arm and a leg..." Etc. You get the idea, right? I drove about 2 miles to work with my hazards on. Luckily, I got to work safely and started Google-ing potential reasons for the light to go off and what MINI service companies are local to work. I was really afraid to drive for fear my car would completely quit on me (dramatic, right?!). I found British Worx OC (AKA MINI Worx OC) on Yelp and called. I explained to the gentleman (John, the owner) on the other end of the phone about the light and asked what he thought it may be. He said it's most likely a coil and I would be safe to drive the 6 miles to his shop. He said if it was the coil, it would only take about 15 minutes or so and asked when I would be able to come in. I said, "lunchtime" and he said, "see you then". I arrived and it was desolate. It's quite honestly, the CLEANEST and quietest mechanic shop I've ever been to. John came out and took my keys and said he'd be right back (techs were eating lunch). He comes back 20 minutes later and tells me it was indeed the coil and the problem was fixed. He does some logistical work on the computer, I pay ($200ish) and was able to get on my merry way! Boy oh boy was I relieved! It was QUICK! Maintenance that was simple and inexpensive than what my imagination thought it would be. John was professional and patient, calm and insightful. He gave me tips to keep my receipt in the event MINI may reimburse me for the coil (since they've been having these issues in their 2010, 2011, 2012 models), taught me how to check for my service info on the car, and look at the oil levels in my car (I felt like he was a caring dad or uncle teaching me basic car maintenance tips)! I FINALLY found a shop I trust and feel comfortable taking my car in for oil changes and maintenance without feeling like I'm being taken advantaged. I just moved to Southern California from Chicago and was terrified when my 2011 R56 MINI decided to go into Limp Mode within my first week of being here. I did my bit of research and was pretty stunned when I read all of the positive reviews received by British Worx OC and how frequently it seemed like John the owner likes to work with individual customers. Afraid of going straight to the dealer for fear of bogus diagnosis fees, I limped my way from Long Beach to his shop with high hopes and expectations. Almost immediately my expectations were met when John introduced himself personally and told me that the issues that I was having with my car were likely under warranty. I stated my concerns with going to the dealer which he confirmed, yet he assured me that my cheapest option was to have the dealer replace the part under warranty. With his careful inspection of my vehicle and his knowledge of Mini and BMW he was correct and MINI fixed my car for free (it was a High Pressure Fuel Pump) . John treated me with respect and in no way made me feel inferior or dumb with the little knowledge that I walked in with. He made no attempts to upsell me or convince me of anything otherwise being the issue with my car. The man is a straight shooter. I love MiniWorx. They are knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating without charging an arm and a leg. The first time we brought our 2012 Mini Cooper S here, it was after taking it to another mechanic that did not specialize in Minis but supposedly knew them. He gave us a huge rundown about why our car was sputtering and told us it would costs thousands to fix. We brought it to MiniWorx for a second opinion and we are so glad we did. The issue was a completely different and less serious problem and John even called Mini and found out the part was under warranty. He drove it over to the Mini dealership and left it with them! Ended up costing us about $200. The last time was just as great. Took it to the Mini dealership first. They diagnosed the problem and gave us a quote. We took it to MiniWorx and they fixed it in a few hours for $250 less. John even called Mini to see if it was under warranty (unfortunately it wasn't). BONUS: They do after hours drop off and pick up. BONUSBONUS: I don't feel like they are talking down to me or trying to cheat me just because I am a woman unlike some other mechanics. read more

During that time I have spent at least $20,000 on necessary repairs, all of which I was quite satisfied with. Today I needed a new battery so went to British Works OC. John Jaeger and Ryan are no longer there. The new management (Christian?) is lacking in basic customer relation skills. Because I dared venture into the shop area I was chastised and accused of "running amok". I would expect a friendly reminder of their policies, not a hostile dressing down. I've been coming to BW OC for about 5 years now. John always ran a clean, fair business and provided excellent service. His wealth of information and expertise on all things mini was above and beyond what most mechanics could provide. Since Covid, things have changed a bit and John is no longer there full time but he's found a more than capable replacement. Christian now holds the reigns and I honestly didn't think anyone would ever be able to replace John but I'm happy to say I was wrong. Christian brings the same fairness and work ethic to the shop and prices are still reasonable. I love that I can drop my clubman off in the middle of the night if necessary because of the key drop box. They're always providing alternatives and work arounds that you wouldn't get from the dealerships. Just purchased a 2009 mini and wanted to have the suspension inspected as the vehicle had significant "performance" upgrades applied by the previous owner and wanted assurance that all was sound and suggestions to improve the ride comfort a bit. John came highly recommended and I understand why. He is both personable and knowledgeable, and his formula 1 racing experience more than qualifies him to offer a very unique perspective about performance requirements. My daughter was quoted a high price for a repair by the dealership where she had purchased the car. The repair is pending a court decision because it being litigated because of frequency of repairs. The part cost eleven dollars and change the dealer charged fourteen hundred for this repair. The car has a service contract for repairs but they would not cover this repair which is warranted for one hundred thousand miles, the car has forty thousand miles. When this was pointed out to dealership they had no answer. I was fortunate to find British Motor Worx who repaired it for half the price. The car will be serviced at British Motor Worx. read more

Words cannot express how happy I am with this garage. I recently purchased a beautiful 2011 Mini, which was overheating & leaking. I was totally taken for a ride at another garage ("Mini specialist" in Aliso Viejo) after getting the car back from him, the engine light came on while driving home. I found rave reviews on Yelp for British Worx & it's all true. Turns out I paid for an oil change & coolant flush that never even happened! There were a few other things caught in time for a super reasonable price. My Mini was ready in a day and driving like a dream now. Night & day. Car is not overheating anymore, no leaks, fans are turning on that I never even knew it had. I was told the clutch & dual-mass flywheel needed to be replaced at the first place, British Works explained that I have 25% of it's life still left. Honest, kind, affordable and fast service.
