Restaurants are corporations or mom and pop run places. I prefer mom and pop, but choose whatever tickles your fancy. Need souvenirs? John's Pass has got you covered. Looking for cigars? Check. Looking for an alligator experience? Upstairs. Want a Dick's Last Resort? Gotcha. Just a few steps off the boardwalk. Need candy or wine? Look no further than John's Pass. This is a cool place that we visited as the village was within walking distance of our resort. Lots of restaurants to choose from; but, none which can modify their offerings for the patrons with dietary restrictions. There is a plethora of boutiques with momentos and treasures to choose from as well as shirt, clothing, and beach-wear shops. We walked the boardwalk first and then down the main street that had all the clothing shops everywhere. None of the store associates were friendly, engaging, or offering any assistance as they remained standoffish and stayed well away from approaching customers. We were at JPV on a weekend, so it was a good atmosphere, extremely hot, and quite busy. read more

There were plenty of families there enjoying spring break. I found some great deals and gifts for family. There was ample parking, but I wish they had valet. read more

Our boat for snorkeling and dolphin watching was leaving from the marina, so we decided to get there early to walk around and check out the shops. Parking was really easy since we arrived early, and there was plenty available. We spent some time walking around and enjoyed all the little shops, restaurants, and things to see. It was a really nice area with a great atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping by and checking it out if you're in the area! read more

Johns pass is a cool lil tourist spot. Even if you live here it is cool to come to once in a while. Parking is a bit difficult and expensive. Some of the places are still gone from the hurricanes and fires upstairs. They really did a great job building some of it back up. The rent here is high for the store owners so the prices are a bit high for the customers. Being on the water is great too. The pirate ship the sunset cruise. And just hanging at the sandbar is alot of fun. Check it out you wont be disappointed. Johns pass was created by an extreme hurricane a very long time ago and now it is home. read more

We enjoyed a great meal and beer flight at Mad Beach Brewing Co. we walked around several shops and had a great time seeing all the beautiful views here near sunset! John's Pass is a tourist dream with a little mix of nice stores and restaurants equally welcoming for the locals sprinkled in here and there. This is a great central shopping & dining location in the St. Pete area. Usually there's plenty of parking even on a busy day, and lots to walk around and check out. I have been pleasantly surprised that not all of the shops are complete tourist traps. Some actually have some really cute and nice stuff. Of course, there are the places with all the corny shirts and souvenirs and everything because there has to be, but there's so much more than that. There are almost equally as many places to eat, but I'd choose that more carefully. This is the worse part of the tourism area that many of the restaurants aren't that high quality but it's in a busy area near the beach so people come no matter what. I'd highly recommend the Boardwalk Grill if you can get seated in a reasonable time. At John's Pass you can also take a lot of tours along the water, boat rides, jet skis etc or it's fun to at least walk along the back boardwalk. read more

John's Pass is recovering nicely since back to back hurricanes last Fall devastated it. They were fully closed for some time. This past weekend we stopped by for the Seafood festival. They are recovering nicely. There is still a handful of stores I noticed in one area towards the boardwalk were they were closed. Hopefully that section will recover soon. It's still a great spot to walk and get that by the beach boardwalk feel, see the boats, ride a jet ski or get a tiki boat ride. I love seeing the pelicans and different seabirds there. It's a cool spot for a drink and hangout out with friends and family, catching some rays and having a nice day. You will find many shops with clothes, souvenirs, and just about anything. Make sure to stop by bc it's a cool spot with local vendors. read more

Fact (or myth): John's Pass, which was created by a hurricane in 1848, got its name from pirate John Leveque, who discovered the pass and was the first to sail through it. it was a historic fishing village turned into a shopper's paradise. John's Pass Village and Boardwalk is a top St. Pete/Clearwater attraction with more than 100 shops, restaurants, and water-related businesses. when I was strolling out there, it has a handful of watersports companies specializing in boat rentals, parasailing excursions, deep-sea fishing charters, and more. in fact, I saw dolphins a couple of times. The Royal Conquest, a pirate ship that sails out of John's Pass, runs daily cruises designed for families. It is a great spot for family fun. It also has plenty of fun options for lunch or dinner. great ambiance, nice scenery, and great company - lovely. Chain restaurants like bubba gump shrimp, hooters are there too. I did not get a chance to spend the evening here, but I am pretty sure it would be magical. Shopping: it is lined with nearly 20+ unique specialty shops. If you're looking to take home a souvenir for a loved one - or yourself - head just a block away to this shopping area. Handmade items are quite popular here. Find fine jewelry inspired by the coast at Landing Company, or take home an authentic Cuban cigar from Cuban Paradise Cigar and Cafe Parking: Onsite parking is available. Unlike Sarasota, Bradenton beach- parking is not free here in St Petersburg, it's $3/hour. make sure when you are in the St Pete beach area, you don't do back-in parking. John's Pass is a fun tourist center. I wouldn't call it a "tourist trap" because they don't rake you over the coals on pricing. From food, to cruises, to shopping -- pricing is pretty reasonable -- and, in my experience, very reasonable for a tourist area. We took a sunset cruise (Hubbards Marina - fun and well priced) and ate dinner one day and returned another day to do a little browsing, shopping, and eating. We missed it, but apparently the pelicans put on quite a show when the fishing boats come in. You can find videos on YT. Larger selection of souvenirs - they had all the kitsch you'd expect and a lot more in the various shops. Reasonably priced, if you're in need of souvenirs. There is a shop (forgot to get the name!) that makes their own tropical wines and does free tastings (don't forget to tip, though!). If you're a oenophile, this won't be for you. But, if you like sweet, fruity wines and don't have an overly refined pallet (me), this is really fun. We ate at the Pirates Pub & Grub (separate review, but 5 stars and eight thumbs way up from our group) and Bubba Gump Shrimp (two stars for food, but 5 stars for service). There are at least a few other options. We tried the Hershey's Ice Cream place - one of us thought the ice cream "meh" and the other of us thought it the worst abomination of frozen milk and sugar ever made. And, since the one writing this is the one who absolutely hated it, I'm going to say hard pass. read more

Tourist attractions like the pirate ship or party boats. Handicap parking is always free which I thought was a nice touch. $3 an hour to park in the area which we found was reasonable. If you've ever been to Cape Cod, John's pass is like a replica of a small beach town with lots of shops and eateries. You can even buy salt water taffy! Mad Beach House Brewery is here if you want a tasty beer or two, and there's a couple of restaurants that offer great seafood, even new england style lobster rolls. Definitely worth a visit. PS. John's Pass Village & Boardwalk is a great touristy destination and fun place for locals to visit. The history behind it is interesting- it was actually technically made from a hurricane in 1848. There's a variety of shops and restaurants and bars in the village, and the board walk is beautiful with the ocean, you can see Dolphins regularly swimming there. There are also plenty of water activities you can do there via boats like rafting, sky flying (I think it's called that?) on the ocean, renting speed boats etc. John's Pass boardwalk also has a beautiful memorial called the Hand of Fate that pays tribute to those lost at sea. Parking is not free fyi there's a charge but I recommend parking in the garage by the boardwalk. It's a fun place to visit and to walk around - you should definitely check it out when visiting the area! read more

I was somehow given to believe that this was a place laden top to bottom with frolic and festivity. Either I was misled or we just came at the wrong time, day, date, whatever... Very scarce parking alongside a typical touristy beach walk area. Multiple T shirt and bikini shops, dotted with the occasional bar or restaurant, and the ever present beach kitsch. We found a decent frozen custard shop and a pretty cool cigar store, but nothing here stands out of the crowd as a must see. If you're from Florida, this is literally the same street you've been on anytime you went to the beach anywhere. read more

John's Pass is a nice place to visit for shopping, food, music, and water views from the pier, but as others have shared, we felt safer here during the day. At night, this place definitely has a different feel with some drunk, loud people and unsafe drivers. We were very cautious walking back to our condo. There are some decent shops, like The Landing, but others have a cheaper, overpriced feel to them. We dined at Caddy's and paid over $85 for three entrees and two drinks, so it's definitely more pricey to have a sit-down meal. For some funny and unique items, check out Big Dick's Salty Seaman shop. I actually found some of the cheaper items I bought here, but probably not an appropriate store to bring little ones into, as the store name suggests. read more

This is a huge shopping area with tons of shops and restaurants. Most of the shops are for clothes, beach accessories and souvenirs. There are plenty of restaurants, especially seafood. There's a boardwalk/marina on the side where you can take a fun boat ride. The place is so clean and open. It was very crowded around midday. We walked around and checked out most of the cute shops, but afterwhile, I noticed some of the stores were selling the same stuff. There's plenty of spots for some sweets like ice cream and icies. The beach is right across the street, and I took a quick stroll in the water while my friend shopped. This is definitely an area to stop and check out if you're in the area. read more

After lunch we decided to check-out St Johns Pass which is multiple outdoor shops. On a very hot day not great being outdoors and we discovered parking is now by license plate not by space. It's so odd I have never done a review before as I have been here countless times. This is a great place to walk on a boardwalk, stop in little shops, grab a drink, eat a meal, or stop for ice cream. We almost always see dolphins swimming and there is usually lots of activity on the water. You can rent kayaks or boats, or also take chartered boat trips. There is a beach area within walking distance. Parking is fairly easy with a parking lot or garage. read more

$24-40 parking for a couple hours is insane for a retail location. Those are "close parking at major sporting event" rates. Imagine if a shopping mall charged those prices?!?! Family and I have been coming here for years, but until they stop trying to turn parking into a profit center, we're done. We just came for some ice cream and a stroll through the shops this time, but when we saw what they did to the parking rates, we went up the road to the Candy Kitchen and spent less on ice cream than we would have for parking. We probably would've bought a few things in the shops too, but I guess that's their loss. At a minimum, they should let the shop owners validate parking to bring it back down to a couple bucks an hour. Incentivize people to come buy things. read more

John's Pass is a large pedestrian shopping village that is worth a visit for those visiting the beaches of St. Petersburg. You will find a lot of clothing stores, souvenir shops, jewelry stores, and a lot of restaurants and bars. Expect a lot of seafood and bar food as the main food options. There is also the Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center. It is basically a small zoo of reptiles and amphibians for kids with decent reviews. Next to the water, there is also a long boardwalk where you will find a bunch of water activities being offered. These included dolphin watch cruises, jet skis, dinner cruises, and speed boat rides. Though John's Pass is definitely a tourist trap, it is a convenient place to see and do many things in one spot. read more

Lots to do in here but it's not really the safest place to be at night! Went out here Thursday to hit some shops and restaurants and was nearly ran over by 2 drunk people driving around through the shopping areas. Cops were preoccupied with a fight that had occurred already, so they didn't seem to care. Could just be the spring break crowd, but there definitely were some crazy drivers in here! Great place to come check out all the shops after a beach day or on a rainy day. Most of the shops were on a covered walkway so it's perfect for keeping the sun or rain away. We visited John's Pass Village at the end of May. Initially, it looked cute, very touristy but cute. We had to figure out the street parking first which required downloading an app on our iphones in order to pay for parking. Not a big deal but set us back about 10 minutes in the heat. We started shopping at the stores along the street that are on a covered walkway. Nicely kept stores, touristy and the usual prices were expected. My daughter saw a sign for a "See and Touch Live Gators" so we went upstairs to see what it was all about. The man said they were closing in about 20 minutes but honestly, I was thankful. It was a small area, we could see pigs and other small animals through the admissions window. It was humid and smelled bad and I felt sorry for the critters in their little stalls. We moved on and continued our journey. The best part: We made our way to the boardwalk and watched the fisherman cleaning their catches of the day. The view was pretty and we enjoyed watching the pelicans hover around the fish cleaning station waiting for their claim. We saw quite a few dolphins in the bay. We also saw these cute little floating bar/huts out in the bay. Very cool! I included a picture. The worst part: We were shocked at the amount of people on the boardwalk. It was Disneyworld in peak season busy. No one wore masks which was fine...we enjoyed that about Florida. What we didn't like is everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE we walked, the air was thick with the smell of marijuana. We also noticed that the mix of people was interesting...families and tourist mixed with a lot of pot smokers and we saw a few ankle monitors on people. I'm not judging but I would not return. There were quite a few police on the boardwalk and we say two officers taking a report from a woman...not sure what happened with her but she was missing her purse so ?? The restaurants were busy, some menus looked over priced for what it was so we opted to leave and get out of that area for our meal. It wasn't for us, way too many people, too touristy and way to many pot smokers. If you like that sort of thing, great...go check it out! We like the less traveled road with fresh air. :-) read more

There is plenty of parking but it is $3 per hour. If you have to add additional time, you can only do an hour minimum and they do ticket. read more
