Had my first experience with John this week. I took a suit to him on Wednesday and it was was ready by Friday (suit coat shortening, slight alteration to custom fit, and hemmed pants). The work was high quality and you can tell this guy knows his stuff. But that's not why John gets 5 stars, John came through for me today... After needing to get 2 suits tailors same day he had them both ready in less than 4 hours which was a huge help for me as I needed them for a business trip ASAP. He's an older cat with lots of cool stories from his past experience working with some pretty famous people. He's definitely not the cheapest in town but in my opinion id rather pay a bit more for quality lasting work rather than half done jobs where you have to get them redone. Great job John! Went in with a time crunch on some adjustments on my vest and jacket and it was done in 3 hours. The gentleman (assuming John) was solution oriented and figured out how to make the proper adjustments despite there not being much material to work with. NY Taylor the street turned me away for the same reason. John provides good service and quality work. Thank you! read more

Bought a dress for my sisters wedding that is made for a 6ft tall person and me being shorter than the average person I had find somewhere to get it hemmed. Saw the yelp reviews and decided to check it out. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend (about the same price as I spent on the dress), but was worth it! He did an amazing job and is super friendly too! Definitely will bring anything I need altered back to him! Oh yeah as a heads up cash only and 50% deposit if its over $20. read more

Just to give you an update, John's Tailor increased his prices on me (I think from $10 to $15) on hemming some shorts even though I am a loyal customer. I guess times are tough, but I'll deal with it. Because of the price jump, I told him to him to alter only 2 out of the 3 shorts, and then he tried to push me into getting the third shorts hemmed; I thought that was sort of "cute" but I can see how someone might take offense to that. Anyways, he did a superb job on making these bagging but RARE boardshorts have a slimmer fit without sacrificing the overall look. (By the way, these boardshorts are one of a kind and no longer sold in stores so I would definitely trust him to alter a vintage piece and likely a wedding dress.) read more

2 weeks before our wedding my fiancé decided to try on her dress and well it didn't fit!! Obviously she started freaking out and I told her not to worry. Found this place on Yelp and was there the next morning.. After talking to Rogelio (owner of the store) he made us feel at ease and told us he'll take care of it. Great place to get alterations done. I paid $8 to have a pair of (unlined) pants hemmed and got them back the next day, looking perfect. The owner actually asked me when I needed them when I dropped them off, so I'm sure he could've had them done even sooner if I had asked. Unfortunately I did not have the positive experience described by others. I took my daughter's two piece prom gown and asked to have it taken in at the waist of the skirt, adust a cup in the bodice, and shorten the length. He said it was too much work to do the skirt the "the right way" but would instead add elastic to the waist band, and assured me it would look good. He also said he could not adjust the bodice. Again..."too much work". He charged me $95 to add elastic to the waistband and remove 3" of the length, and it took three days. The outcome was a bunchy waistband that made my daughter look like she was playing dress-up in her mother's clothing and when I pointed it out, I was told it looked fine. $95! Luckily I found an amazing tailor in old Torrance who was able to make the gown fit beautifully, bodice and all, for a fraction of the price and it was ready the next morning. When they looked at the previous alterations they were puzzled. Thankfully, it wasn't too much work for them. read more
