How altered pants fit on me
    Blaine J.

In the area, quick and simple, good quality, decent value I had recently purchased a pair of dress pants from H&M that were relaxed fit and the legs were practically twice the size. I went here because it was very close as I live in old Torrance and only took me 10 minutes to skate there. Inside, it was very cozy and gave off nice grandparent vibes. At the back of the shop, an older Korean pastor looking man (like another review had previously said lol) had me changed into the pants and immediately took my measurements. The process was very quick and simple. He suggested to tighten the hips, butt, crotch, and then give it a taper and crop. I came in on a Monday and picked it up when it was ready on Friday then paid $55. Honestly, my mind was blown when I picked it up as he turned a pair of unwearable trouser/ dress pants into being perfectly fitted.

The man that did my service was highly skilled and could even tailor my jnco jeans. This was not an easy task, and he beautifully double stiched it. I am so happy with the outcome and will be coming here again.

I came to Torrance Custom Tailor to adjust a new pair of suit pants. After putting on the pants in the dressing room, I walked onto a raised platform where Paul marked the cutoff length for the new pants with unfinished hems. Paul sewed up the pants in the back room so I didn't get to watch him work. I was asked if I wanted my pants to have the cuff finish, or just the standard smooth finish without the cuff. I opted for the standard finish, which turned out great. The bottom edge of the pants sits right over the shoes with little scrunching. Free street parking available in front of the store and around the block.

Over messages I was given a rough estimate of $40 for the hem and $20 for a shoulder take in, which was lower than the quotes I was receiving from other places. When I came in, my total to be paid at pick up was at $110. $90 for the hem, $20 for the shoulder. Of course, a quote is dependent on material, difficulty, etc., so I did not complain, but quote versus actual prices ended up being almost double. For a satin, a-line, unlined dress, this price was higher than what any from my group of bridesmaid with the same dress paid at other places. When I came in to pay and receive the dress she again upped the price by $5, making my total $115, which I found out after, was not the price given on my receipt when the dress was dropped off ($110) The actual work was fine and did the job, and the shop owner was very nice, but I do not think I would return here after my own personal experience.

Maureen is very skilled in her work. She took in some inches around my bust and added a bustle for the long train on my dress. Her prices are fair and affordable, and she has a quick turn around time for alterations! For my wedding dress, she had it ready in 2 weeks. My wedding dress zipper kept getting stuck even though tried to adjust it, so she replaced the whole zipper entirely, and it was perfect! I also brought my reception dress here for alterations as well. After my wedding, I brought both dresses and my veil back for dry cleaning, and she had it ready for pick up in 3 days. I will definitely recommend her to everyone I know. She did a wonderful job!!

I went to this tailor out of convenience since I live in the area. What a mistake. I've gone on (3)…read moreoccasions. The first time I had (2) pairs of mountain biking pants that needed zipper and a belt repair. When I received the pants, the belt repair was fine. The zipper on the other pair broke again the second time I used the pants. Within 2 weeks of the first time I went in, I went back the second time to get the zipper fixed again. The lady ended up charging me another $20 to fix the zipper. I didn't feel great about this since I used the pants, but it wasn't worth arguing about. I made sure to have a discussion / agreement with the owner that in the future, if the same zipper broke in the immediate future they would fix it free of charge - which they agreed to. The third time I went was to get a different set of zippers fixed on a pair of mountain biking pants. We agreed (2) zippers would be replaced with new ones and the cost was $40. When I went back in to pick up the zipper the zippers functioned, but they looked eerily the same. I asked the lady and the husband 3 times... are you sure these are new zippers? They assured me they were. I paid them and went home. Upon stepping inside my house, I zipped the pants and pocket zipper up and down again and low and behold, the zipper popped open. Upon closer inspection, the zippers were the exact same broke zipper that I brought in originally. I could tell the pull tab paint was warn and not new. All this supposed tailer did was take my same old broken zipper and placed the pull tab back. This was a band aid fix, and not the replacement of zippers we agreed to. I was furious that I had to return again. I showed the lady that these zippers were the same (and not new) based on the wear on the pull tab and that we agreed / admitted they were not new. I felt obligated to tell her she shouldn't lie to her customers and she agreed and apologized a number of times. Now that I'm thinking about this, this they probably didn't properly fix my zippers the first time - which is why I also had to go back... Long story short I demanded my money back and will not go back for anything in the future. I would recommend you not go to this super shady tailer as well based on my experience.

Flawless execution, to a point where you can truly feel the attention the detail & appreciate the skills needed for this kind of service. So I'm very fortunate to have this business close by. PRICING: Totally fair. I was pleasantly surprised to have been charged $25 for an original hem. To my understanding, it's more labor intensive compared to a standard hem. Sam helped me from the intake and even recognized me during my pickup. He's kind, polite, a real stand up guy running an honest business.

I brought in several Crate & Barrel curtain panels valued at approximately $900 for dry cleaning. Because of the cost of the curtains and the fact that they were in excellent condition, I specifically asked the owner, Sam, about potential risks before signing the waiver. During that conversation, Sam told me that pilling was a possibility, but he also stated that he had never personally encountered a situation where a customer's curtains experienced an adverse outcome from the cleaning process. He reassured me that everything would be fine. At no point did he mention shrinkage as a potential risk. That distinction is important because if I had been informed that shrinkage was a realistic possibility, I would not have proceeded with a nearly $400 dry-cleaning service on $900 curtains. I would have simply replaced them. Unfortunately, after cleaning, the curtains no longer matched in length. Panels that previously pooled slightly on the floor are now hanging approximately 3-5 inches above the floor, and the lengths appear inconsistent from panel to panel. In addition, the curtains appear to have been pressed improperly. The fabric no longer hangs straight. Instead, the sides appear narrower near the top and wider near the bottom, creating a noticeable billowing or hourglass effect. When I raised this concern, Sam acknowledged that the pressing issue was human error. I should note that I was unable to pick up the curtains for approximately a month due to a medical emergency. However, the condition of the curtains upon pickup does not change the fact that the shrinkage and pressing issues occurred during the cleaning and finishing process. What ultimately prompted this review was not just the outcome, but how the situation was handled. I spent approximately 20 minutes on the phone with Sam attempting to discuss the issue calmly and professionally. Rather than addressing the specific concerns I raised, he repeatedly insisted that I had been warned, despite the fact that shrinkage had never been mentioned. The conversation frequently drifted into broad generalizations about waivers and customer responsibility rather than the specific facts of what had been disclosed to me before I signed. When I explained that there is a meaningful difference between being warned about pilling and being warned about shrinkage, he maintained that shrinkage fell under the general umbrella of possible damage and that he could not be expected to list every potential outcome. I disagreed. When a customer specifically asks about risks, they deserve enough information to make an informed decision. I also found it unreasonable that I was told I could receive either a $50 accommodation for the shrinkage issue or have the curtains re-pressed to correct the acknowledged pressing error--but not both. These are two separate issues. One relates to the cleaning outcome, while the other relates to admitted workmanship during finishing. Perhaps most disappointing was being told that providing any additional accommodation would essentially amount to "running a charity instead of a business." After spending nearly $400 on the service and receiving curtains that no longer fit or hang properly, that comment felt dismissive and unnecessarily insulting. Had Sam simply acknowledged that shrinkage should have been discussed, shown some empathy, and worked collaboratively toward a reasonable solution, I likely would not be writing this review. Instead, I was left with damaged curtains, no meaningful resolution, and a conversation that left me feeling unheard and blamed for an outcome I specifically tried to avoid by asking questions upfront.
