Honestly this place have very good reviews, so we decided to stop by on our way to fishing today. All we need was just a reline on one of our reel. The cashier took our reel and set it on the side, when it was our turn in line after he ask us how can I help you, than he came back to help the next customer in line. We wait patiently until he helped the fifth customer and a customer ask the cashier "Are you going to help them." He respond, " I need clear out the line first. The customer response "they were here first, the line will never end until you closed the store, than the rest of the customer refused to go next until he help us. It only took less than 5 minutes to put the new line in the reel but We wait 45 minutes patiently without be angry or mad. Lucky me for that customer to speak up. read more

This is a great tackle shop. They have just about anything you could want for freshwater fishing. (I didn't look too hard for saltwater gear.) Not a specialist shop, but a damn fine general outfitter, with an amazing selection of live baits. (Lamprey eel anyone?) The employees are knowledgeable in fly fishing, as well as fishing for bass, trout, salmon, sturgeon, crappy, bluegill, catfish, and just about anything else you find between Nevada and Ocean Beach in SF. They open at 4am for those last minute items before a great day of fishing, and they are very knowledgeable about the local "hotspots". If you come with questions about what kind of gear to buy, be sure to take notes, pay attention, and rest assured you can get a full setup pretty much regardless of your budget. (I saw many rods starting at $+-30, and going all the way up to $350. Same with reels.) If you're in the area for fishing, you have to stop here. It may mean the difference between fish on, and fish tales. read more

WITH the audacity to hide it behind his back and ask for confirmation from the customer if the customer knew the card's last 4 digit number? So stupid, wouldn't recommend this cashier on 9am of Sunday June 27, 2021. Hire better cashiers. In all of my time working as cashier at all, I've NEVER once seen or known any cashier who would question a decline from the customers card more so TAKE the customer's card. I drove out of my way from Chico to visit Johnson's Bait & Tackle and bought some P-Line Predator lures that were defective and Johnson's Bait & Tackle would not stand behind their product. I only wanted to exchange the products not a refund . Of course I had my receipt and they still refused to assist me. I would not waste my time to go out of my way to visit a store that doesn't care about their customers other than how much cash they can extort by selling worthless products. I spoke with the son of the owner who checked with the father and was told I could not be helped. read more

The shop portion is great, good selection, but high price point. Except every time ive been in there the guys act like you dont catch any fish and dont know what your doing yet when you show them pictures they wont leave you alone till you tell them where you caught the fish at. I hate going in there now because thats all they want to do, I will never give up my spots so get off my butt! I prefer star bait there much nicer staff and dont bug you like johnsons does, although johnsons has much better hours of operation so if we head out realy early we can just swing in grab our bait and roll. Great hours and the guys that work there are knowledgeable about the fishing in the area. They do a couple of seminars each year for Stripers, Salmon and Sturgeon which are full of great information and good food. The prices are a little higher but I don't mind paying a little more to support a local mom and pop store versus a large chain. Their early morning hours have saved my fishing trip on a couple of occasions. read more

Great selection, great prices, since the new owners have taken over. They have been remodeling the store and adding a lot of new tackle. Last time I was in they showed me a bunch of new stuff from Japan they had just got in. Also, since the new owners have taken over, they have been lowering the prices on all the tackle. They are the biggest fishing tackle store in Yuba Sutter and have been around for the last few decades. They are the only game in the area really, with no competition. Their prices are high, and there is at least one clerk there ,male and tall,who is prejudice and will give minorities the worst of the lot when it comes to live bait. They have clerks that are known to lie about what is being caught and what to use , so they can sell stuff. sad but true. mog read more
