Our flight was delayed 3-4 hours on a football Sunday, so we posted up at Jolly Pumpkin Tap House to watch the games and grab some lunch and it ended up being a great choice. I started with a Bloody Mary, which was perfect and not overly spicy but still had that classic Bloody Mary flavor. I also tried a few of their local beers on tap, all from their brewery, and they were phenomenal. We kept it simple with apps and ordered the truffle fries (really good) and the boneless chicken bites, which were also solid and came in a huge portion. Exactly what you want while hanging out at the airport. For an airport spot, this place honestly feels like a bar you'd find outside the airport. Massive TVs, easy to watch the games, and a legit sports-bar vibe. Ordering was a little confusing at first, but the server was super helpful and made it easy. The day we went, the cash register and computer system was down. So they let us know that we would have to pay in cash if we were to order. The waitress did not seem particularly enthused about taking our order, even though we were agreeing to pay cash. She was very slow with our delivery of items and seemed to be serving other tables around us with a more hurried pace. We waited for a while and the food wasn't not that great. I give two stars only because the Ceaser dressing on my Togo Ceaser salad was tasty. Other than that one if the worse carry outs I have even experienced! First off there is not one person behind the register EVER you gave to order in a kiosk I ordered a Ceaser salad and added chicken $25 for this salad. I left and cane back due to knowing it would be a few minutes for the order. But almost 30 minutes later and I'm standing by the carry out area and not one if the waitress asked if I needed help or anything . It wasn't busy there were 3 ladies 2 waitress 1 bartender and they made sure to not make eye contact with me. I had to almost step all the infront if the door to the back to their kitchen area and say "excuse me" Sad thing is the waitress I stopped knew what I ordered because she replied to my excuse me with "I'm just waiting for your chicken". First of all you could have said something about that before I had to force service for you.... then when I get to somewhere to eat the salad that took almost 30 minutes it was messy like they just thrown it in the container. Had a lovely dinner here with my 3 year old traveling companion a couple weeks ago. We had a solid meal that was served with reasonable speed. The quesadilla was large. It was kind of bland, but seemed pretty fresh and well put together for an airport restaurant. The Cobb salad was also large and fresh. We shared a the salad which had enough fun stuff for the traveling kid to pick out and enjoy. There was plenty of seating even though a good chunk of it was closed due to the time of evening. The waitstaff was good, though, it looked like they were short-staffed or run on a shoestring. I was surprised at how well they took care of everyone, especially when they got a rush right before closing time. They have some standard Jolly Pumpkin beers and some rotating ones, so it's a good place to enjoy while on the road, especially if you haven't taken time to go to Traverse City lately. read more

The food is decent, but as is the case for much airport fare, not exactly worth the price. The service is hit or miss for me. It's a great option if you're killing time at the airport. The food is good... Full bar and a lot of great locally brewed beer on tap. Their pizzas are delicious... sadly I only know that from PREVIOUS experience. After ordering a Margarita pizza (yes I know it's spelled wrong) and paying to add pepperoni and onions to it (a 22$ tiny pizza) I got on the plane to discover a congealed lunch meat sandwich and fries.... Disgusting! And it made for a very long very hungry 7 hour flight to Germany. Lesson learned... even if you've been waiting 20 plus minutes for your food and even after the woman at the counter says "your PIZZA is almost ready" and even if you're about to be late to the gate LOOK at the food! read more

I had high hopes for this place when I landed at DTW and walked by. So I made a mental note to stop in as I was leaving Detroit. As airport restaurants go, it's marginal. Inviting and centrally located with ample seating a good bar space. However, right off I saw red flags. I arrived at 6:00 and the place was pretty desolate. People were leaving with half of their meals unfinished. I stopped in because of the selection of taps. But when I sat down I was confused. There was a QR code at my table that told me to scan for a menu then order. I tried it that, and it told me I couldn't order because no server had opened my tab. A server came later and took my drink order, then the rest of my meal order traditionally. VERY confusing. I never ended up using the mobile ordering system. The staff was friendly but seemed equally confused. The food was incredibly underwhelming. Very salty and greasy. I saw many people pay then leave behind half of their meal. My bartender had little knowledge about the beers on tap so I couldn't get a differentiation between the four IPAs on tap. This all feels like poor execution on the part of management. Bad training program, poor menu selection, underwhelming food quality. I had a good beer but it was luck if the draw. Opportunity wasted. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken for carry out on July 17. I paid a total of $25.44 at the kiosk. Then I waited over twenty minutes. I watched people come and go trying to get someone's attention for help and then giving up. I showed people how to use the kiosk. At that point my plane was boarding. I spent about 5 min trying to get anyone's attention but no one was behind the carry out counter and the only waitress whose eye I could catch just said they'd bring my order when it was ready without giving me a chance to respond and without checking on it. The tortilla soup was delivered in about 5 minutes, piping hot. Fast is a good thing when you're pressed for time, but this was seriously tasty. I love corn in anything, and this was loaded. Crunchy tortilla strips were sprinkled on top. It was also thick and tasty, but not the least bit spicy. A cup of pepper seeds was provided on the side to kick up the heat. This could serve as a meal. I'm glad that Jolly Pumpkin has a presence at Detroit Metro Airport. Prices are what you'd expect for an airport. None of the cocktails had their prices listed. I tried the Blanca Farmhouse Witbier. It was a tasty, light, refreshing sour beer. However, when I started eating the first slice, a woman who identified herself as the store manager came over and said they could make me a new pizza, but I would have to pay full price.
