Glad we got a reservation! Very cool place and a nice little parking lot as well if you get there before it fills up. Had a lot of fun choosing dishes (sharing, recommended 2-3 dishes per person), and tried to eat all the animals at once. We really enjoyed the fun take on each dish, and had an excellent cocktail. Kudos to the dessert options as well, which satisfied the sweet tooth at the table. Great place for a good meal!

Everything was perfect from the host, to the service, to the restaurant itself Very professional! Every dish served was balanced with flavors! I will definitely be back. Make sure to make reservations days ahead of time. You won't be disappointed! They also have events. Check out their site!

I came here for dinner with 6 of my friends. Overall it was a great dining experience. The restaurant is clean, decor is minimal, and the dim lighting creates an intimate atmosphere. Our server was very patient and friendly throughout and gave good suggestions. We tried several different dishes amongst us and they were all quite tasty. The Shrimp with Grits was one of my favorites as well as the mushroom plate. I was a little disappointed that they've taken the seared octopus off the menu as numerous people had raved about it in their reviews and that was the dish I really wanted to try. The one thing that could have gone better is that the plates were brought out at random times and not all at the same time. So some people were watching others eat most of the meal. The desserts were beautifully presented and a good size. They tasted as good as they looked too. The Pavlova was like air, melt in your mouth delicious. Being gluten free, I very much appreciated the amount of dishes that were available to me. On the picture of the menu, the items that I could not have are marked with an X and then there are a couple that could be modified circled. *I am not celiac, so cross contamination is not an issue. Final thoughts: would recommend, would come back!

Everything we got from here was amazing! Especially the chicken was fantastic! We got a table in the patio which was really nice minus the cotton flying all over the place. Regardless, recommend to sit in the patio and any dish on the menu should be tasty. Service was good and fast. We were here 5pm on 6/6/2025 Friday, it was already busy. By 6pm when we left, we had to go through the restaurant inside and it was so busy. Reservations are recommended.

Had a good dinner at Selden Standard. From drinks to food - everything hit the spot. Not cheap but solid food wise. The only complaint is that the food didn't come out at the same time and had to ask for bread a few times before it was brought out. Mushroom appetizer is outstanding! Shrimp and grits were good but a little too spicy for my taste. Also, I feel that they could have served it with a little more grits . Bratwurst entry was good as well. Special mention on dessert! Pear dish was very good!!! Pavlova was excellent! Loved the cream.

I love the ambiance of this restaurant - it had a dark and romantic vibe. Our server was so sweet and made the best cappuccinos! To start, we tried the beet salad and seared halloumi. I love the zaatar on the halloumi. Next we had the beef tartare. The crackers that topped the beef tartare had a strong spice to them so I would have the beef by itself instead with some sourdough if you are someone who is a bit more sensitive. Next we had the sweet potato agnolotti, roasted potatoes and roasted cauliflower. The sweet potato agnolotti was my favorite dish of the night. It tasted like a comforting Thanksgiving meal in a pasta. Overall had a great time here!

This is the best restaurant in Detroit and has been for a long time now. Menu changes regularly and the consistency of great food is unmatched. They're incredible accommodating to food allergies and sensitivities. All servers know every ingredient in every dish. It's also probably the busiest restaurant in town so being high maintenance about seating won't get you far. Keep your group to 6 or less and ideally 4 or less for the best experience. If you need a boost with some booze start with my wife's favorite...the "Matador" whether it's on the cocktail list or not it's typically available

My husband and I made reservations for the chef's counter. We love when restaurants offer this. It's such a unique place to sit as you enjoy the art of cooking. We scored parking in back. If you can't find parking, there is a lot of street parking just make sure to pay your meter! Looks like there is a cute outdoor area too. Great for the summer! There are about 8 seats for the chef's counter. We were front and center watching 2-3 individuals grilling and firing up potatoes to steaks. It's fun to watch and guess what they are making too. This was our first time at Selden Standard. Our waitress recommended 4-6 plates for a party of 2. We ordered 5 plates which included the roasted mushrooms, the beet salad, grilled octopus, beef tartare, and the grilled walleyed. Seems like a lot but it was the perfect amount. We were too full for dessert but that's okay! Means we have to come back to try it again.

We had an excellent dinner at Selden Standard on our weekend getaway to Detroit. The food was excellent, creative, and original, the drinks exceptional, and the service excellent. A fun, busy atmosphere. Really enjoyed our dinner there and are eager to come back to Detroit to try again.

I've heard great things about Selden and saw many high reviews, however, overall I would say the food made it only had a four star experience. First off, let me say, this restaurant was 100% packed on a (winter) Friday night- wow, we didn't expect that since we didn't make reservations BUT they have some standing tables to get a drink and wait for a table which was great because not only did we get to try a cocktail, but a table became ready as soon as we got our drinks! Service is excellent and it always feels great to be taken care of. We decided on a side of mushrooms, the cacio y pepe and the walleye. For some reason, they served us the mushrooms first (completely on their own) which was a bit odd and not as preferred since they were pretty good but quite salty so having them with our main meal would've helped. Then they served us the cacio y pepe & walleye. I would totally recommend the walleye as that was very good but the cacio with the broccoli mixed in was bit different. I love broccoli but I think mixing them together threw off the dish for me; I didn't love their interpretation of it. Maybe we didn't order exactly the right things or not enough but (I'm glad we tried it) I'm not in a hurry to go back for now.

So glad I decided to visit. Great vibes, amazing atmosphere and wonderful service. Selden has an impressive bar and respectable wine program. However, the food was outstanding! The cavatelli was excellent-- the best I've had. The Michigan country rib was a knockout flavor bomb and tender), and the panna cotta was the perfect texture and nice flavor combo. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants!

And again, the best meal I've had in the past year. Last year's was Selden. Of those places which I've eaten over the past year (Memphis, Boston, NYC, Connecticut, Cape Cod, a bunch of places in the South), Selden is the best meal I've had. Bar none. The standout of the meal was the cauliflower. Again, yada yada, devoted meat eater here. That aside, the cauliflower was NOVEL; who knew cauliflower and humus were culinary soulmates. It doesn't make sense on paper: it has to be eaten. The mushroom dish was excellent though not the world-stopping, second-guessing-what-ignorance-have-I-engaged-in-about-this-ingredient revelation that it was last year. Still, I should have ordered a second plate. The duck was punctuated, underlined, and highlighted by the mole. A white mole, not dense or overpowering, but subtle. Sweet pop from the pomegranate was appreciated, the duck skin crumble wasn't as present as I was hoping. If any of this is coming off as pedantically critical, I'm trying. Trying to find fault with the best meal I've had in a calendar year. And dammit, it's not easy. If there's one dish that I didn't stop me in my tracks, it was the octopus. It was good perfectly; the texture was spot on perfect. The sofrito was light: onions, cucumber, it had the feel of a salad. The verdict? Still the best meal I've had or could have hoped to have. Detroit is this well-hidden, low key food Mecca. The high church is Selden Standard. This is where dining isn't eating, it's experiencing the transcendence of creativity and novelty into final form.

Execution on every dish is adventurous and top notch. Mushrooms, halloumi and oysters, oh my! The short rib was a tender flavor fireworks show. The interior views are pleasing, and the tables and banquette are not as nice as this restaurant deserves. Wait staff is knowledgeable, interesting and helpful. Cocktails - what a wild, adventurous ride! And the wine by the glass? Just perfect. The dessert chef must be in love - both the pavlova and chocolate bread pudding were borderline savory. The bill reflected the experience . Worth it.

The crab cluster was so sweet, and I was a huge fan of the clams and mussels. Marrow had seasoned butter for dipping all of the seafood in, and it was to die for! Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

He absolutely made her night. We all shared the Brussel Sprouts (w/ honey, lime, & chicken skin) and Octopus appetizers. The Brussels were heavenly and the octopus was flavorful and tender (very nicely prepared). Aside from the Steelhead entrée, my wife and son both had the Ribeye Cap w/ yaji, peanut, & kiwi. We ended up being placed on the "veranda" which was an enclosed space with about 4-5 tables. They had heaters, but fortunately, it was warm enough that they were not needed. SERVICE - my friend made it well known that we were there for my birthday, but I'd like to think even without the birthday drop, we would have gotten great service. Our server was friendly, attentive and made a number of recommendations to help guide our dining experience. MENU - Grey ghost has a rotating menu, with a few items that our consistently featured (I'll talk about my burger later). An interesting array of starters including brussel sprouts and coconut shrimp as well as a great variety of main entrees. I feel like there was something for all tastes at this place. They also had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails. FOOD - We started off with shrimp tempura which had a tropical salad of some sort served with it. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the tropical salad really complimented it very well. We also decided to try their home made Rock and Rye (their take on Faygo's marquee drink of the same name). The Rock and Rye was decent, but if you want rock and rye, nothing beats the original. For our main dishes, a number of things caught our eye. including the lamb and ribeye, but we ended up going with their burger and a side of fries and their wild boar pappardelle. I've heard Grey Ghost has one of the best burgers in Detroit, and it did not disappoint. And you know we had put an egg on it and it was rocking. I don't know what the burger sauce they put on it was, but it seemed like a much, MUCH better executed big mac. The fries were great as well. The pappardelle was good, nothing mind blowing, but a solid entree in it's own right. I was curious how the burger here compares to the one at their sister restaurant (Little Ghost) and the host said the quality of meat used in the patty is better at Grey Ghost than little ghost. Guess I'm going to have to go there as well. OVERALL - definitely worth a visit. I'd say a good spot for a first date, or some other sort of special occasion. I won't wait as long to make a trip back to this place, that's for sure. CELEBRITY RATING - Collin Jost

I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.

I didn't know they served beer and wine, which was nice to have with your sandwich. I wanted to try the Muffaletta. I brought my own gluten-free bread bun and the other person with me ordered the same sandwich but with the bread; and they truly enjoyed it as well. My only issue with the sandwich is that the Portella mushrooms took away from it, rather than enhancing the flavor. Overall, good experience, decent service, I will definitely be back to try more items off the menu and check out their shop.

Fresh bread, freshly cut meats and cheeses and made with pride. It's a true gem. They sell their deli meats and have a nice selection of Italian wines too. You enter and get in line to order. When the order is ready, they call your name and bring it to you in a simple brown bag. There isn't a lot of seating so we get our food and go to a park to eat. I love this place!
