Once you step inside, it's a typical Ace Hardware -- paint, tools, garden supplies, hardware, and other assorted home improvement items... in addition to very friendly employees. They're helpful too -- when they know where things are. And even if they don't know, they try with a smile, so you can't really be annoyed with them. The one thing that does annoy me? The prices. Many items are priced higher than Lowe's or Home Depot. Since this is individually owned, it doesn't really surprise me. However, I'm OK with it when I consider that most big chain tool stores don't offer the personal service found here. Occasionally, they've got a popcorn maker with free, fresh popcorn for customers. Super salty, but so good. Craving an old fashioned soda? You can find different brands of old-fashioned root beers and creme sodas here, too (for sale, of course). I actually swung by this afternoon and left with a couple paint tools, root beer, and popcorn. On the way out, a couple cashiers struck up a conversation with us. It was such a pleasant experience!

After disassembling it I took it to Ace and they even replaced the internal washer for me...and the sale...a 40cent part. I too bought some pipe tape etc and all toll through their help I spent an entire $15.32 instead of paying a plumber HUNDREDS! They are always willing to help and assist you at this ACE store! I called first to see if they had them, and the young girl was so helpful on the phone. She even told me right where to look for them as I enter the store. That same friendly, helpful young lady was working the cash register. It took less than 1/2 hour from the time I made the call until my grandson hit the slopes. Sure it sounds routine and not worth a review, but it served as an another reminder for me of the extra value of going to an independent Ace Hardware store, rather than the major chains. I had ran in to a Walmart store along the way. Although I very rarely frequent them, I figured a big store like that would have a sled. They did not, and they sure weren't sorry they couldn't help me. What a difference! I googled "sleds near me" when I was in the Bloomingdale area, and this store popped up. Who knew a hardware store would be the place to buy a sled? Nice sized clean store, wonderful people, in stock, affordable. Nothing against the big hardware chains, but I'll be thinking Ace first on my next purchases.

We met Larry at the Door section of the store and he showed us multiple door choices that matched our needs and scheduled a visit by the installer to determine the necessary millwork that would be needed to complete the work. The installer determined the materials and necessary labor so Larry could provide a quote for the total job. As this was in November weather was an issue with being able to work. I needed a work permit from Hoffman Estates and after a few inquiries with Larry talking with the permit department I secured the permit and the work was scheduled. The install took 2 workers for several hours to remove and install the new door and it was very cold and dark but they had lights to help. We couldnt believe it was finished before the major snow storm just in time. Great job by Larry on following all the details and answering the questions to secure the permit plus the installers working late in the dark and cold to finish the job. Looks great and we are extremely pleased with the Home Depot level of service and attention. All future home needs with be with Home Depot. A nightmare from start to finish…read more We purchased a dishwasher. Turns out the door was extremely difficult to open and close. When my husband called the number to call with any problems he was told the door was defective and the machine needed to be replaced. OK. Fast forward to the next week. The crew came to include the installer. Although my husband turned off the main water supply he specifically told the installer to turn the water supply off under the sink because there could be accumulated water in the line. The installer said no need to do that and did it his way. At that point water started to gush out and we both were scrambling to grab bath towels to clean up the mess. In addition, they scratched the tile on the floor when pushing the refrigerator back in. The next day my husband noticed that the kick plate was crooked. He went to straighten it out and realized that only one side was screwed in. That prompted him to take a flash light and look underneath. Turns out the grounding wire was not connected. I hope people understand how serious that is plus none of the wires were taped. Also, the metal junction box to cover the wires was missing. My husband went to the store and talked to a manager. We then received a call that a different person would come the following week to correct the electrical issue and to bring a junction box. He also confirmed the delivery date and a reminder to bring the junction box with their BOT. The following week the THIRD crew came to our house. The grounding wire issue was corrected and the wires were taped. Now, where is the metal junction box? The drivers don't have it. One showed me the info that the warehouse receives directly from the store. It did NOT include the instructions to bring the junction box. My husband then went to the store and was given one. He then came home and completed the final steps of the dishwasher installation. We have purchased all of the appliances in our home from Home Depot. Our last two came with delivery/installation issues. This will be the last time that we purchase any appliances from Home Depot.
