Not having been back to a Menards in a very long time, I found the prices still to be the lowest among the major home improvement centers (i.e. Home Depot, Lowes), but the service this time was really good. Frankly, this surprised me. Menards was a very important name early in my adulthood where free moments were occupied doing various things related to home improvement, and every weekend meant at least one trip to Menards. You accepted the observation that service and quality was better at other places, but the prices couldn't be beat and you had to weigh how long the product had to last. And for things that needed to be changed out (batteries, light bulbs), buying it at Menards was a no-brainer. Also, I worked in Wisconsin, and many co-workers would tell unpleasant stories about friends who worked at HQ and the main DC in Eau Claire. So this is the view that I lived with. This time my BIL wanted to go to Menards initially, so that's where we started. I ended up going back by myself multiple times because of my experience (and will probably go back again while in Chicago). There were multiple times when I couldn't find what I was looking for (I had time so didn't mind wandering a bit), or had to do something different (purchase toilets that would be later picked up by our contractor)...and each time, when I asked someone in that giant warehouse, they would direct me to the right place, call someone over to help, or walk me to the place that had it if I had gotten lucky and asked the right department. Every person was pleasant and didn't appear to be in a hurry (which greatly helps a customer not feel bad about interrupting). Some things don't change though...this week, they have their 11% rebate on everything sale...20 years ago, I remember coordinating getting the right rebate form, sending the right receipt with it, actually mailing it in, and then forgetting about it, until a postcard came later with a credit to spend at Menards. They are notorious for this...the other box retailers have made rebates more automatic and digital, Menards continues to use postal mail, mainly so a larger percentage of people just drop out...plus it is a store credit, so it encourages to shop more in the future. And of course, because they are so big, they have the opportunity to purchase things not related to home improvement in bulk at certain times, and pass the savings on to their customer. They have groceries (not great prices), but you will also find baked goods, and frozen shrimp for really low prices. You just can't depend on it always being available. read more

I rented a pick up truck on 06/19/25 about 7pm the girl took me out to the truck to due her inspection. I told her 3 times I wasn't comfortable with the 2 front tires the otter tread on both tires were half worn and she just ignored 3 times and continued to do the inspection I than showed her the tires on the truck next to the one she was giving me that the tire treads were all the same with no wear the way a tire should look she again ignored me. We went into the store got the key and went on my way the truck was ok to drive but its needs a front end alignment. she was like a robot going over the rules at fast as she can just to get me out of there and I was nice that bothered me all night the way she just ignored me. read more

Menards just lost us as customers. My husband just came back from attempting to have the tank for our gas grill refilled at the Menards in Hanover Park, IL. They advised him that on top of the regular charge there is now an additional $5 charge for service as it takes time for a staff member to do the task. This is outrageous as he saw 3 staff members standing around talking and the conversation was not about business but about their personal plans for the upcoming weekend. read more

I called Menards to talk to the delivery manager to explain the situation, and he started arguing with me. I'm with my wife when we came to this place. We want to buy a couch and table for our living room. Since the living room was not big at all we wanted to buy couches with a nice and small size. I use our pick up car (ford) so our couches will be put at the back or car. When we came here it's easy to park our car since there are lot of vacant space to park. There are also free customers inside. We went to the furniture section. My wife started to choose a couch. We decided to choose a brown couch. It was a little bit cheaper compared to other stores that we went to. It has a table on it, a glass table. We also buy frames for our living room. I highly recommend this place. Gotta like Maynerd's Hardware and Stuff! Relocating from the upper midwest to the eastern south and having to choose either "blue" or "orange" is rough. Really miss having the option of paying $40 for a tool to accomplish a $40 task (I don't need professional grade for every project) and those "economy" tools will provide years of service with a little attention. The big green store isn't for everyone or every job but there's plenty of times it was the only way to get the work done. It's a giant hardware and supplies store that has some non-hardware stuff so it helps to have a working knowledge of the task at hand, or at least a good grasp of the principles. read more

went there in search of a area rug. I thought I was lucky to have found the pattern I wanted only to be disappointed by all the stains. I asked the front desk manager at check out if i could get a discount she rudely told me no and that I have to deal with the sales in the rug dept. went there and spoke to 3 men that were not nice either. no smile no kind greeting just not happy at all. I was told that the best he can do on a $169 rug was 10%. the stains were bad and it would cost me more money to clean it. none of them were of any help. he said they would loose money if they go lower. Purchased a chandelier online and within few hours realized that is not what we wanted. Could not cancel the order online. So since I chose ship to store at hanover park, il I went there today to cancel it. I was told there is restocking fee of 25%. The product was not even shipped. Their frontend 'manager' Jonathan was very rude and started lecturing us to learn basics of how a business runs and etc etc. I have been a customer at many stores including Walmart to Costco to Bloomingdales and never experienced such customer service. Anyway his lecture was amusing in the least. First of all, Menards' doesn't state clearly on the product page that there is 25% restocking fee. Customer would have to click through a small link and read fine print on another page navigated to find this detail. I have never had a problem with this location, however, today my mother and I came to return a few items and received the WORST customer service one could ask for. We understand that these are trying times, but the employee in charge of our return, Rosa, had a major attitude problem!! She threw around the tile and other items we were returning without a care in the world. She acted as if we were bothering her by asking her to do what she earns a paycheck for. Her tone was awful, her facial expressions and body language showed what a lack of care she has for customers and her job. I have been a customer for 35 years. On Saturday while making a purchase the flower pot had a crack in it, noticed after payment, while I was bagging. The check out person, very nice, allowed me to go and look for another and there were none. Having paid I asked the front desk if I could get my card credited. She, in a very rude, tone, points tells me to walk across the store and it is completed there. No problem however I am a person with disabilities, braces on my legs noticeable as I am wearing shorts. The selection here is always pretty great and the variety of products is vast as well. The only thing I wish they did offer is Sherwin Williams paint, they have other brands here like Dutch boy and Nautica paint. The customer service needs some improvement. I was over in the hardware section looking for a particular handle, there was an employee right where I was at but he was helping other customers and then there was a group of employees near him chatting who could clearly see I was struggling but wouldn't help me. I stared at them trying to get their attention but that didn't work so I helped myself. At checkout I inquired about a opening up a account I was directed to the front desk. I walked over to the front and there was no one there so again I began to help myself and grabbed the documents and pen from behind the counter. A person finally shows up to assist me, she never introduced herself or was friendly with me. She just asked what I wanted and asked for the documents I had filled out. I then noticed she was the manager because of her name badge and was disappointed. I expect a higher level of customer service from a manager. She never really talked to me she just told me not to lose the documents and that was it. The kicker that sets this store apart from home depot and lowe is the inclusion of random goods such as snack food, pet supplies, and small kitchen appliance. Often you will find good deals with menards rebate. Pros- wide selection of home improvement items, competitive prices, random goods (snacks, tools, pet supplies, lcd tv etc...) Cons- sometimes it is difficult to find items due to the large store size Hidden deals- Menard rebate, buy an item get store credit back that you can roll into another item. Pretty good customer service. I was there for Black Friday and everyone was super helpful. This time I went back for something in the outdoors and garden area. I picked up 2 of them, but they were super dusty. The cashier offered to clean them off for me and since I wanted another one, they were out and would not get more til spring, she had the manager call another store to find them for me. Menards has the worst customer service. We contracted someone to lay vinyl flooring through them. We were concerned initially when the workers arrived to drop off the supplies because they were very unprofessional. We contacted menards about it and they said the particular workers had several complaints about them, but also many good reviews. They further said that if we had any issues to let them know and that menards would help us out. While the flooring looks good, they destroyed brand new quarter round throughout the house. The quarter round is cut wrong, there are chunks missing in them, and large nail holes. They left a mess and scuffed up walls and doors. We contacted menards and even showed them proof with the dozens of pictures we took, but in the end, they wouldn't help us. We are filing a complaint with corporate, but this has been a huge headache. We will never contract through menards again. read more

I was in Menards with my wife shopping for window blinds. ( 7435 Barrington Rd. Hanover Park, Ill 60133-2241. Sunday around 1:00 PM An employee named Emanuel P went above and beyond to help us. We bought 3 window blinds at the store and ordered 2 sets on line. They needed to be trimmed. Emanuel was very Knowledgeable and polite. My wife and I are former business owners (over 20 years in retail) and I would consider him a valuable employee. I hope this gets back to his manager. Menards is an ok store to shop in. They're employees could use more training on customer service and where to find items on they're shelves. I pre ordered some wood online so I wouldn't have too much interaction with people but when I got there they couldn't find the wood I ordered and I had to spend unwanted time there straightening it out. My biggest head scratcher is they're so called 11 % rebate program. You pay full price, send in a rebate you have to spend in their store at a later time. I refuse to go to this store after our experience there, I will drive to West Chicago and give them my business. My husband and I decided to build a retaining wall in our backyard and were going to do it ourselves. We both have compact cars so we needed to rent a truck to get the blocks to our house. We initially got everything from West Chicago and then we needed more rocks for the backfill and WC had a waiting list for their truck so I called HP and they had a "first come first serve" policy. One thing I've learned about Menards is that there is no consistency. Every store makes you do things so differently. So the guy said it might be about 30 minutes so we decided to just head over there and see what happens. We get to the counter and the guy rudely brushed us off saying he didn't know when the truck would be back. So we decided to just use our cars and we go out to the parking lot and there are TWO trucks in the parking lot and one in the yard! WTF! This store truly has the worst customer service. I usually go to the one in West Chicago which I have had no problem with. We are a commercial buyer with an in store account at both stores. This one in Hanover park has cashiers with attitudes. I can never remember my account number, ergo this cashier had an attitude because she had to press a couple more buttons to find our account. Then told me I had to give her the numbers next time or she cant check me out. I spent almost $400. and don't need that crap. Too much competition in the area, I could easily just run down to Home Depot. You want to end up lile Builders Square and Handy Andy keep it up. Then, the yard guard with the attitude. Who needs it. Without boring anyone on the particulars of a "complicated return" they were unable to process for me, their general level of customer service and lack of empathy and communication with the customer is abhorrent to me. I considered writing a message to the manager of this store after the most recent of my poor experiences here, but I feel that with a big box retailer, they most likely are not too worried about losing my business and my letter would likely be shuffled directly into the trash. I was originally going to write a negative review of this store because I received a shower kit with the wrong base and doors I ordered weren't in the system. The issue stemmed from me originally wanting to change the shopping date on the shower kit and I ended canceling the order, then canceling the voided order so I could get my items as originally purchased. This caused confusion. I did receive the shower kit but it had the wrong base. I was told over the phone that they could replace the base that they had in stock in the store. When I got to the store, they couldn't find it. That's where Paul in plumbing comes in. He went above and beyond to find this kit and made sure I was helped and satisfied. He wad beyond apologetic. I can't say enough about Paul. Andy in doors helped solve the issue with my doors that weren't in the system anymore. The nice woman at the front office also helped and knew exactly what to do in the situation. We are in the middle of a bathroom remodel and I had just gotten home from a long day at work and didn't wanna deal with any of this but these employees went above and beyond to solve the issues that quite frankly were mainly my fault. Sure, I got the wrong piece in a kit but it wasn't their fault. These are people and we all need to realize that sometimes. Thank you Paul, Andy, and the nice lady in the front office! read more

Attention customers!! Be sure to keep ALL your receipts from Menards. I purchase light bulbs made by Feit Electric, they were a package of 10 bulbs in the Daylight color. I was stupid enough to throw away the receipt. I only wanted an exchange for Soft light instead of Daylight. No can do! You must return and repurchase. Alas with no receipt you get the lowest price offered in the past I guess ninety days. The price I paid was $11.46 on line and $13.88 in store, they gave me $4.99 plus tax. Gotta love Menards. Always good customer service, really good selection, good prices and love the rebates. The variety of items that Menards carries is awesome, makes it a one stop shop for many trips and projects. However, with the store being so huge and that they move merchandise/displays around quite frequently, it can be hard to find things. Their Web site isn't all their great, which is why I can't give them 5 stars. I've had a few doozies with the online site stating there is stock in the store and there wasn't. In a jam, I will call ahead and have the item held to avoid that situation again in the future. Overall I like Menards way better than Home Depot and think it is more fairly priced than Lowes. Just wish there was another in the NE Schaumburg/SE Palatine/Rolling Meadows/SW Arlington Heights area. read more
