i was referred here by my friend because I was looking for a new doctor in the area. I was taken off my parents insurance so no more kaiser for me. I have VSP and they accepted my insurance. i am sure they accept major insurance companies as well. so onto the doctor, he is efficient and friendly! his staff is super nice. he is also open on saturdays! that is a great help since i work a 9-5. it does get booked fast, so make saturday appointments early! it is easy to find. basically at the 5 points plaza in HB. next to a java city and japanese restaurant. so if you need a doctor, check it out! read more

This is the optometrist I WISH I would have went to first! Wow. The service and integrity here is 5-star++ Dr Yamane could have sold me on contacts, new frames, tinted lenses, you name it, etc. BUT he straight told me that my current prescription (from another Dr, over 2 years ago) will hold me over for another year. I just about had a heart attack, stunned by the integrity. I have not experienced this from an optometrist to date. I decided to have a very old pair of lenses replaced. No problem, they took my old frames and returned them within two weeks with the new prescription lenses. You can bet that I will be referring here, starting with my own family. read more

Dr. Yamane was on-time, efficiently fast, and very professional. His office and equipment were clean, the staff nice and friendly, there is lots of parking (they are located by Trader Joe's on Main St.) The main reason for 5 Stars is that he didn't try to unnecessarily sell me any new glasses. Rather, he said my current prescription glasses were workable, even though they were a couple of years old. I had to practically beg to buy new lenses, and they still wanted to use my old frames. Dr. Jon Yamane was recently recommended to me by a friend and so I went to him for my annual visual exam this year. Booking an appointment was a breeze and I was very pleased with his service. He is kind, soft spoken and patiently took his time to make sure I was given the correct prescription for both my eyeglasses and contacts. I asked for the daily wear lenses and since it was going to be my first time using it, he gave some samples to try for a week. It helped me decide if it was the right fit for me before I bought the lenses in bulk. I was so happy with the ones he recommended. I'll surely see him again for next year's visit. read more

I've been getting my eyes examined here since 3rd grade when I first got glasses. When Dr. Yamane took over I was refreshed by his energetic and thorough approach to patient care. Right away he had me try some new, more comfortable brands of contact lenses to try to get my eyes feeling better and he even gave me his cell phone number to call with a progress report. Dr. Yamane and staff are the sweetest and most reliable office I have ever been to and had the pleasure of visiting. I have had glasses and contacts for more than half of my life and I was just so impressed with their efficiency and dedication to their patients. I got my glasses (and soon to be ordered contacts) way faster and more reasonably priced than any other office I've been to ( including kaiser and Costco). They gave my fiancé and I SEVERAL pairs of contacts to compare brands, recommended the best coatings for our budget and insurance coverage for glasses and got everything to us in about a week. No surprise that Dr. Yamane has so many five star reviews...he is just THE BEST. He never rushes through appointments and has gone above and beyond to give excellent care to me and my entire family. Last weekend my dad had an issue with his eye and Dr. Yamane texted me back right away on a Sunday and talked through his concerns and then fit him in the following day for an appointment. Now that I've had my first visit with Dr Jon Yamane, I would travel over a 100 miles and more to make sure he is the only eye doctor I will go to from now on, regardless of how far I may be in distance. The facility is a pristine, modern and beautiful environment with superb staff, from reception to the nurse, and I can't say enough about Dr Yamane, I have never experienced such a warm, friendly, knowledgeable and caring doctor in any health care environment. I recently had my vision coverage change and was in the need for a new eye doctor. I actually find him on YELP and I couldn't be happier... I just referred my roommate to him too! The reception staff and his assistants are SO friendly and get to know all their patients, even as a new patient in for my first visit I felt like i belonged. He hires family and it shows, because all of him patients are treated as family. He was professional and friendly and I didn't have to wait long before he came in to examine my eyes. I have been going to Dr. Yamane for at least 6 years now and every time I go there, I feel like family. He has become my trusted Optometrist and since then I have also introduced my 80 year old Mom, and 11 year old son to him. We all feel the same about our experience with Dr. Yamane and his loving, caring, knowledgeable and very attentive staff. From the moment you check-in, to the various tests before you meet with Dr. Yamane, they are very thorough, yet mindful of the time without making you feel rushed. I don't have any eye problems. I have perfect vision and go to the eye doctor once every year or other year for a routine annual exam. Having said that, Dr. Yamane is still one of the better optometrist I've been to. His staff is full of nice girls and making an appointment wasn't hard. I have been trying to find a correct new contact prescription with Dr. Yamane for over three months. Originally, Dr. Yamane ordered my old prescription when I specifically came into the office for a NEW prescription. Once I got the trials, I realized they did not work. I got a second trial closer to my prescription, but they were too weak. I ordered a third trial in a new brand of my prescription that we had agreed upon in the original appointment (-9.5). I have NO CLUE why Dr. Yamane felt so strongly that HIS opinion about what power to order was in direct conflict with what HE TOLD ME and I specified worked best the appointment. I have been in glasses/contacts for 20 years and have always been very specific, and particular, about what powers work for my eyes. I came into the office today expecting to FINALLY have a -9.5 trial ordered. Nope. -10. When I explained that they didn't work, Dr. Yamane checked each eye and tried to tell me I really needed a -9. I had already trialed a -9. It didn't work. I had to ASK him to allow me to open both eyes at the same time (duh, how you see). How he never asked to do this is beyond me. And how I never remembered to ask him is even more frustrating. EYES WORK TOGETHER. It was clear to us both that I needed a....wait for it... -9.5 due to the way my eyes WORK TOGETHER. I left the office truly disappointed, but still trusting in his judgement. As I drove away, I realized in 20 years I have never had it take this long to find a correct prescription. I called while driving home asking if there was ANY way that I could have the trials sent to me on vacation. JUST A QUESTION. Dr. Yamane then proceeded to lecture me about how he doesn't make mistakes and told me that I was arguing with him. I'm a 29 year old health professional and he spoke down to me and was condescending. Got an easy prescription? Sure go see him. Know what you want and have the gall to ask for it? GO ELSEWHERE. Was it that I reminded him of HIS mistake during the first trial? Or is it that a woman respectfully, and clearly, explained that I was disappointed in how long it was taking. That's what I said..."disappointed." I then was called "difficult" (a word used almost exclusively for smart women) by a supposed professional. Guess who had to end the phone call? Me. Because apparently Dr. Yamane has plenty of time to continue berating a patient because I disagreed with him. read more

I started going to Dr Yamane because both my eyes were very irritated, red and teary from what seemed to be from my contacts, they gave me headaches and I looked like I was crying all the time. I threw out a few pairs thinking I had a defective box of contacts, reverted to glasses and then tried a new pair again and the problem came back again. Luckily, the office is open on Saturdays and it wasn't too hard to get an appointment. Both he and Dr. Marklinger, the other doctor in the office, seemed knowledgeable about their field and was very friendly, as was their staff. They retested my eyes, gave me a trial pair of contacts to wear for a week, and then checked me again. Happily, I've been prescribed a different brand of contacts than my previous doctor had prescribed for me, and have no more problems. I'll stick with Dr. Yamane from now on as far as eye care is concerned. read more

I ordered two sets of lenses. The lenses are great and have 0 issues with the glasses. Only downside was that I was informed that it would take 1 week for everything to be completed. It took 3 weeks. I would call, ask for an update, be informed I would get a call next day, and never get an updated call. This office should learn to set proper expectations and for that reason, I'll probably use a different OD next time. read more

This office is so wonderful! From the reception to the manager and the doctor himself, I was so pleased. When they are speaking to you, you can tell that they have your full attention and do everything they can to help you out, even if they're very busy. This is the first time I've ever been to an optometrist. I waited until the end of my insurance year to make an appointment, so the question was, how do I make the most of this insurance as well as the insurance that I'd be getting a week later? They helped me maximize my benefits as well as save money for out of pocket costs. Not to mention, they made time for me despite their busy schedule (I went in on 12/30 of last year).
