    The lunch crowd.

I love taking my daughter to Jones Store. She's the fourth generation in our family to step through those doors. Jones Store, born in the early 1900s to serve cowboys on their high Sierra trails, stands proudly off the grid. No electricity, no phone, no cell service. Propane powers the grills and cools the food. It's where the bikers, hikers, and locals head when the mountain snow melts. Every time I go, I order the hamburger. It's a one-of-a-kind affair, served on a long roll instead of a round bun. Oversized, it's built to satisfy folks who've been on the trail for a good long while. My daughter's favorite part? The dogs--Linda, Bodie, and Tucker. Before you go, remember to bring cash. The store isn't open every day. Check the store hours posted at the bottom of Beasore Road at Bass Lake before you head up the mountain.

While I was planning a group backpacking trip, my buddy N sent me a link for Jones Store, saying: "We NEED to go here!" As it turned out, it was on the way to our trailhead - along the long, convoluted Beasore Rd - and miles from the nearest town. They were open; so we stopped. Plus they had homemade pie(!!) I'll always stop for that. As mentioned by the owners (and the plaque out front) the store was first established in the 1930s as a supplier for cattlemen who were grazing their herds in nearby, upland meadows. It's been a family affair ever since, with the current owners being the third generation here. But times have changed - Gone are the store wares. Gasoline is no longer sold here either (though they still have an old gravity-feed tank out front). It's now just a stop for food and drink. Receipts are filled out in pencil & paper, and they accept CASH ONLY. So be prepared for a bit of time travel. Did I mention pie? As stated on a sign, they have two kinds: pie or no pie. And since the latest pie from the oven is always changing, and they don't keep track, they won't tell you what kind you'll get. I can say it's an enormous slice (1/8 pie?), it comes a-la-mode, and it is topped with whipped cream. I picked mine up right away and it was apple. (with great crust, as is required). One friend grabbed hers 15 minutes later, and it was peach-blueberry. (I admit I was a little bitter). They also offer burgers, dogs, chips and drinks, including beers. Being on vacation, I decided to have a beer with my pie; and I was instructed to grab one from the fridge - PBR, But Light, or Coors. Ok then. Once purchases were completed, we ambled outside, grabbed a plastic table, and enjoyed our sustenance amongst beautiful mountain scenery. A few people in our group ordered burgers and claimed they were excellent. The only negatives for me were: -- Prices were scandalous. One hot dog, two slices of pie, and a can of PBR was $45. I assume it's from supplying this remote location. -- The bathrooms in back were dark, rickety, and kinda scary. They offered showers for extra $ but I wouldn't step foot in the ones that I saw. Ew. Nevertheless, our visit to Jones Store was a great start to a long, off-the-grid weekend trip; I would definitely go again, as long as I had some cash with me.

Coolest spot around. I only wished I could have gotten there earlier snag a pie. Great atmosphere, beautiful day to relax in high country. I'll absolutely be back

Took a MC ride with a couple of buddies. This was my first time at this place. Upon a coworkers recommendation, we all ordered cheeseburgers! No sooner then walking in the door, they belted out "should I put three cheeseburgers on"...we said of course. Grabbed a soda and table out back. Burgers and chips were at the table within 10-15 mins! Well! Even if it took 30 mins, it would have been worth the wait! The bread was phenomenal, the was patty seasoned well and the grilled peppers and onions complimented the burger! Next visit I will try the pie! This is a must see/eat location! Don't forget your cash! No credit or debit or checks

Cool run down out off the way, hard to find, bumfck egypt, divey dive place high in the mountains. Worth the hairpin turns, get out of the city, hangout. Bikers heaven. Snow up here in the winter, might be closed down, but fkn ay, my kinda stop.

Wanted to add some pics of this quaint, majestic place

A family friend from Coursegold took us to this great burger joint off the beaten path. The burger was cooked perfectly, with a slice of tri tip. So delicious. It's a simple no frills place with outdoor seating. You help yourself to a drink and head out to the meadow where you'll find outdoor chairs and tables. You couldn't beat the location. Owner was friendly and even hung out with us. This is a must, but I warn you once you stop, you won't want to leave. The oversized burger on a french roll was delicious and the scenery breathtaking. Please stop and tell them Mary sent you. The owner never heard of yelp.lol

We had our annual camping trip at one of the local campsites near Miller's Landing resort. One of our days we decided to use our 15% off coupon from our campsite to Rent a 9 persons pontoon boat. The folks working at the counter for the boat rental were friendly and helpful. I wish I could say the same thing for the dude's working at the actual boat dock. They gave us weird vibes. Like, have y'all never seen Asians renting a boat? WTF are you guys glaring at? WTF is so funny? It was irritating AF! Thankfully, the time on the water was really fun! The kids had such a good time zipping around on the water and we also rented a tube that we towed off the back of the pontoon boat. Yes, it's not a speed boat, but it was fast enough for the kids to enjoy being towed around. The next day we went back to Miller's Landing to use their public showers. Five dollars for five minutes. Make it quick! The shower's were clean, water was warm, or cold if you prefer, but the line can get long. There is no complimentary shampoo, soap, or conditioner, so be sure to BYO. It was a good option for those of us who were tent camping that NEEDED a shower. Although we didn't dine in the restaurant, we did get drinks, ice cream, and milkshake's from the café, all of which were really tasty. We will definitely plan to incorporate a boat rental, showers, and meals at Miller's Landing when we plan our annual camping trip for next year!

This is actually one of the worst bbq spots I've been to…read more I haven't done Texas bbq yet, but I've been to a lot of spots across St Louis, Nashville, and Arizona. Literally every meat we got was dry, bland, and overcooked. You really have to try to mess up a brisket point, but they managed it. I've had juicier flats at normal spots than this point ever was. Pulled pork is also a really hard thing to mess up, but it was extremely dry too and had basically no flavor of its own. Feels like on days they goof up they should just drown everything in bbq sauce to cover it tbh. The sausage wasn't anything to rave about. The tri tip was cooked medium well and at least didn't seem like a select cut since it had some tenderness to it. But it barely had any smoke. You're genuinely better off making one at home. None of the meats were seasoned enough. Everything needed sauce. The sides didn't help either. The cole slaw had no noticeable dressing and looked like straight up salad mix from Sysco. The mac and cheese just tasted like the powdered cheese packet you get in boxed mac and cheese with a bit of Whiz mixed in. Honestly the best thing on the table was the Diet Coke. At least it saved me from choking on all that dry meat. Service was the one bright spot. Everyone was extremely friendly and checked on us for waters and offered to take our trays. 1 star for the phenomenal service.
