Only disappointment for me was the corned beef hash that other reviewers have raved about. It was mostly potatoes, which were flavored with something sour and awful. I absolutely love this place!!! My boyfriend was the one who introduced me to this place. His family owes a lake house in Lake Geneva. I love things that have that old school feel and this place definitely makes me feel like I'm in the movie grease! The only place I eat when I go to the lake house early. I am used to only write bad reviews. I thought this place deserved a good one. We came for the weekend to see the ice castles. We wanted to have a quick breakfast before heading back home. I love a good greasy spoon diner. And this one ticked all my boxes. Talk about a classic feel diner with counter service! I absolutely loved my meal, everything was cooked right and just the way I asked for it. Service staff is very friendly and happy to accommodate. The coffee is good and my cup never ran empty. I will happily return here the next time I am in town. Love it. Like stepping into a time machine. Would be a great spot for a nostalgia classic car night! The positive reviews displayed on here must be posted by the owner and the employees. We had a terrible dining experience here. The cheeseburger was over charred and tasted burnt. The bacon on the grilled cheese sandwich was served nearly raw. Service was slow and they were not even busy. When the cashier asked us how we liked everything, we told her about the problems with the food only to get 10% off of our bill which was a $1.75. Take my advice, go somewhere else!! read more

Having lunch at Joni's was one of the highlights of our weekend in Lake Geneva. The friendly atmosphere, affordable prices and good food would make us come back. My wife and I split two sandwiches and I added a cup of soup to mine. It was all very tasty. Our server, a fellow ginger of the friendliest variety was very welcoming and helpful. I would give this place a zero if I could due to the quality of food. However, the staff was very accommodating and personable, hence, the one star rating put forth. I initially found this place through yelp with the majority of the reviews being extremely positive. I have to agree with one other commenter who believes that a number of the reviews are being written by either friends and/or relatives. The first thing that came to mind when pulling into the parking lot was that I was going to be eating in a large aluminum can, almost like a tuna can. This was neither visually cute nor appealing. My gut instinct was to leave, but my dad being a fan of the 50's was excited to bring back a little nostalgia so we decided to stay. I should've gone with my initial reaction. For starters, the menu is not too extensive for being a diner. I decided to go with the classic burger while my mom ordered the pesto burger. In my opinion it's kind of hard to mess up a burger, but Joni's Diner managed to do a good job of it. The meat was a cheap grade making it greasy and fatty to the taste and touch. It wasn't seasoned whatsoever and the hand cut fries were mediocre at best. Just a side note, I like to dip my fries in ranch dressing so I asked for a side of it. It cost almost a $1.00 and it wasn't even that good. Honestly, I don't know of any restaurants that I've patronized in the past from LA, NYC to Miami (in other words, major cities) that have ever charged me for a side of ranch dressing. Leave it to WI, I guess. My dad's excitement of reliving the 50's quickly turned sour as soon he had the first bite of his meatloaf. The meatloaf and gravy were bland and again just like the burgers; the meat was greasy and fatty. The mashed potatoes that came with his entree were a disaster. They were two scoops of cardboard tasting potatoes drowned in insipid gravy. I've never had boxed potatoes before, but can only imagine that they would taste something like this or perhaps the box itself. The cherry on top is when both my mom and I got sick from the burgers. I got sick that night and my mom got sick the following morning. The meat was so fatty that we couldn't digest it. It was like a rock sitting in our stomachs. All in all, it was a bad experience. If you're not a fastidious consumer and don't care what you're putting into your system, you're probably not going to have any issues with this place. read more

First time visiting Joni's Diner. The service was excellent, the establishment has a cool, old-school, local-touch to it since most of Lake Geneva is pretty pricey and has a lot of fast-food places surrounding them. I ordered the cheese curd cheeseburger which was quite tasty, though the meat was a little burnt. The fries were good. My mom ordered the eggs and hashbrown which were tasty. Pancake exceptional, lite crust, soft inside; eggs up easy-whites firm not watery, yolk bright yellow and runny (how they did that?); sausages nicely cooked with no char. We had breakfast here for the first time. It was FANTASTIC! This 50's Diner had the 50's music playing and everything was stainless steel. Our host greeted us at the door and sat us right when we walked in the door. Our server was Gwen and she made us feel like Family. She explained the food is all homemade on site all from scratch. And our corn beef hash and eggs was excellent and was our bacon and eggs. Great place and clean! read more

Cute little place off the main strip. It can easily be overlooked for flashier/fancier places but it's a fun experience. Feels very old-timey and many menu items come ala carte. Inexpensive and the poutine holds its own for a Wisconsin town. Remember: this is a diner so diner food is what you'll get. Also, friendly but no-nonsense service. This was exactly what I was looking for--delicious, real food! So many places will serve frozen or microwaved food--not here. You get fresh, real food, like home-made. I had a burger and it was one of the best I've had in a long time. Perfect, juicy beef taste. And the fries with skin on them are fantastic. The burger was around $7 and it was every bit as good as the $15 burgers I've had at the "gourmet" burger houses. My wife had a patty melt and it was awesome. The prices are very reasonable. The location is very close to downtown--just a block from where the main drag ends. This is a perfect hidden gem that will now be a regular stop for us! read more

Tried the cheese curds but was disappointed with the portion size compared to the pricing. When we got the bill, found out that there charge per cup of coffee. No other place charges per cup.
