I stopped here for breakfast because it was close/off the freeway as the start of a weeks long road trip. The place looks like a Greek restaurant/truck stop in the middle of nothing really. The place was empty at 7:20 in the morning except two tables. My service had no issues because it was not packed on my visit. The decor is dated like an old Greek restaurant with some color on the walls and exposed brick. I didn't want a big breakfast because I was having lunch down the road so I ordered 2 eggs with sausage patties and sourdough toast. The eggs were perfect sunny side up. The sausage patties were on the dry side but flavorful and the sourdough was average but it made a nice toast sandwich. Overall it was an average breakfast because I just ordered the basics but it did the job to get me off to the start of my trip and exactly what I wanted. read more

Protein omelette was... decent. Portions are on the bigger side. Prices are typical to today's market. The service always gets a full 10/10 here. Be prepared for kind people who genuinely care for your experience. The ambiance is that of a grandmother's house is the 1970's, which is warm and thoughtful. My poppy (God rest his soul) took us to this restaurant back in the good ol' days. He recommended it highly, and so I had high expectations for the West Wind Diner. Boy, this place did not meet my expectations. I ordered a classic grilled cheese and it was like a brick on my plate (how do you mess up a grilled cheese?!). There were people at the bar staring at me like I had just killed their mother. The service was very slow, and the coffee was like mud. I left the West Wind Diner as fast as I could, and I still see it in my nightmares. read more

Nothing special. We had heard great things about this place and were disappointed. Food is the typical breakfast fare with nothing special and overpriced. It also had me running to the bathroom within 30 minutes of leaving. Service was good but that was the only redeeming quality. read more

On our way home from Milwaukee to Quad Cities we were looking for somewhere to eat breakfast. We saw the sign on the highway and decided to take a chance and check it out. Glad we did. The parking lot had semi trucks and a few empty trailers parked but lots of cars and vans. The inside is adorable and clean. The staff is super friendly. The menu has typical breakfast fare but also fancy pancake toppings such as pecan, cranberry pecan, Oreo s'mores. They also serve lunch and dinner with a small Health and Fitness section. This place is a gem in the middle of nowhere. Definitely worth the drive. They make milkshakes the old fashion way that are delish. Had one of the best tasting, freshest salads. The French toast is made from homemade bread. Everything the 4 of us ordered was fresh and tastey. The place was clean and the service was excellent. Just can't beat it for the prices. My wife and I stopped here for lunch today. I'd been here once before with a buddy of mine and had wonderful service and great food. Today...not so much. We got there about 2PM and there were maybe two other tables in use. We sat down and waited a few minutes for the server to come by with menus. When he came back for our orders, I asked about the meatloaf special and it was as if I'd ruined his entire day by asking that question. He sighed and said it came with meatloaf and potatoes, along with soup. My wife ordered an omelet and I ordered the meatloaf. He brought out my soup, chicken and rice, a few minutes later. It was basically a bowl of rice with some broth mixed in, along with one bit of carrot and a single piece of chicken about the size of a nickel. It wasn't awful, but I've had better coming out of a can. I ate about half of it, then set it off to the side. That's where it stayed until we left the restaurant, as for some reason he never cleared it away. When the main course arrived, the meatloaf had obviously been sitting for a while as the gravy had started to get a "skin" on it in a few places. It was also rather crusty along one edge. It came with two golf ball size scoops of mashed potatoes that were warmish at best. My wife's food was also barely lukewarm. As he slid my wife's plate over to her from my side of the table, he mentioned that he'd forgotten her toast. I'm not sure what kind of toaster they have, but it took nearly 10 minutes for that to finally arrive. We'd been on the go all day and we were both starving at that point. Given how long it took just to get her toast, we figured we were better off just eating what was in front of us and getting out the door. He never once checked in with us to see how things were or if we needed anything else. He just came up to the table about 15 minutes later and put down the check and walked away. He was seemingly more concerned with sitting and playing on his phone. It certainly wasn't like they were too busy to attend to the few customers in the place. All in all, a pretty abysmal experience. read more

Server was extremely nice & knowledgeable on the specials & menu. Food came quickly & was delicious, especially the bacon. Much more modern inside the restaurant than expected & there's outdoor seating as well (not sure if it was open when I was there or not). Reasonable prices. BUT, no one had a mask on including the servers despite the mask mandate & people dying so 1 star off for that. read more

I recently had some business in Darien the kept me a couple days and I was able to eat here a couple times. The food is good homestyle food. Nothing too fancy but really high quality. The smothered steak was perfectly cooked and very substantial with a double scoop of mashed potatoes. The breakfast omelet was one of the best I've ever had with perfect hash brown potatoes. Unfortunately by the time I finished my meal I was too full to try one of their desserts. :( read more

Very clean, excellent service, large portions and delicious food. Our server was very nice and engaging in conversation. This was our first time here and he was very helpful. They are great for accommodating food allergies and are working on gluten free options... However a ton of natural gluten free options to select off the menu. Place is very modern, trendy and has counter service as well. Also TV's in the corners. All the customers are very friendly too. Looking forward to going back! read more

From the cramped atmosphere to the annoying owner not knowing to shutup and stop asking personal questions, also telling my five year old what he will eat, I will never eat here again. I hope this shit whole of a places closed down. The restroom was not clean and I bet you could find health code violations in the back from how it looks in the front. I highly recommend going anywhere else then here if you don't want headaches and an upset stomach the next day cause the food is not edible. read more

This is the perfect stop on the side of the highway for a diner meal. There is a big parking lot that is good for trucks. There is a small counter with some pies and baked goods up front, but I did not try any of that. I had one pancake with topping and boy was it filling and delicious!!! I couldn't finish one let alone 3 specialty pancakes. There menu has a wide variety of egg items and the normal diner sides. I would definitely come here again for breakfast. read more

I found it, in all its patriotic, food-coma-inducing glory. Complete with non-stop coffee in that prototypical brown diner mug. They have a pretty extensive selection of fresh bakery goods, too. Arrive hungry The dirt (mud) parking lot was jammed with cars, bikes, semis and this odd rabble of what seemed to be construction workers. Just walked into the diner and sign said to seat yourself so we did. 2 law enforcement officers walked in AFTER us and were immediately greeted and served right away. We sat there for 10 minutes and not one employee greeted us, brought us menus, water, etc. we got up and left. Don't waste your time! We are two veterans that proudly display the branches we've served in too; no respect or good customer service. read more

The last time I had liver and onions that good was in 1983 at a restaurant in northern Wisconsin. Our server took such great care of us and treated us just like we were family. I had breakfast at the West Wind on Wednesday. I ordered the steak (medium) and eggs (over medium) hash browns, rye toast and coffee. When my food arrived, I cut open the eggs to find a puddle of raw egg white. I immediately sent them back. When I cut into the steak, I found it overcooked dry and the gristle had not been trimmed. There was a huge pile of hash browns that were soggy and unseasoned while the toast was dry and cold. All of this was complimented by a cup of weak coffee of very low quality. The check came to more than $16. Over all a huge disappointment. read more

Very bad service. To the arrogant waiter's response if I was Polish I replied that I was Russian, to which he solemnly exclaimed to the whole restaurant, "Russian? Did Trump bring her here?". You can make the rest of the conclusions. After such an offensive comment it doesn't matter how eggs, bacon and hash browns taste, especially because they were just average. It was over priced and lacking in quality. Didn't get what I expected in many ways. When I paid my bill at the counter the woman was not friendly at all- she didn't speak one word to me. No hello, no how was your food, not even a thank you after I signed the credit card receipt!! Very bad display of customer service. I still gave our server a 20% tip because she was the best part of the meal. The total was $29 for one adult and two children. Unfortunately I wouldn't go back if I was in the area again, there are more restaurants only 1-2 miles around it. Live and learn! read more
