There was already a pretty good line forming when they opened, so I'd definitely recommend getting there early if you want to sit outside. I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken, and the chicken itself was moist and flavorful, although slightly salty for my taste. The outdoor seating was definitely the highlight though, with really nice views of the water and a relaxing atmosphere. There's a decent amount of parking near the restaurant, although many of the spots seem mainly intended for those with boats. There is also a larger parking structure about a 5-minute walk away with plenty of parking available. Since I was a little crunched for time, I didn't get the chance to explore the surrounding shops, but I'm hoping to do that next time I'm in the area. read more

This restaurant never fails. The service is always so good and it's packed almost every single time we go. Reservations are definitely in encouraged. They have a wonderful patio fairy dog friendly. I love their wine menu. We decided to have their Hawaiian nachos that just knocked our socks off. It was so good. We're not sure how much longer they're gonna be in town, but I would recommend heading down to Windon see while they're still here. They've got tons of construction going on. We got off a whale watching tour and walked into this place for some lunch. We sat waterfront on the patio. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken sandwich which was not bad. It had a nice flavor to it. I could take or leave the fries. One of our group had the fish and chips and did not enjoy it. Another had a burger and fries and said it was decent. This place looks like it's been here a long time. We were seated immediately at a window table on the inside part of the restaurant. Our server was - well- great and odd at the same time. He was very efficient and we never, ever. Ran out of beverages so we were well taken care of. The odd part was his body language. We didn't mind but he was doing our meal his way. The meals -one was great and one was good. The coconut shrimp and filet was outstanding the macadamia nut crusted mahi was so slathered Ina sickly sweet goo as the not be enjoyable. Once I scraped that goo off and the fish was more tasty. Get it without the goo. The asparagus was cooked superbly and as I said it was enjoyable but it is overpriced for the level of atmosphere. It's good. I've been here a couple of times mainly because of the location. It's right in front of the water. It has a good patio. The service is okay. It's not bad or great. It's decent. I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. The food is not impressive but it's doable. It's definitely not worth the prices. What you're really paying for is the location. The Wind & Sea is our family's favorite place to go to when we are all together (12 of us). Even if we are not all dining together, it's our favorite place to go whenever we are in or near Dana Point We have been going there for over 25 years. We also have been going to the Kona Canoe Club and the Kona Inn Restaurant, in Kona, Hawaii for many years as we own a timeshare there and visit Kona every year (since 1977). The funny thing is that we didn't know they were all owned by the Wind & Sea Restaurants, Inc., (until a few months ago) so that makes perfect sense why we always go to all three locations, because their food and service is that wonderful. At the Wind and Sea, I always get the turkey sandwich with their wonderful french fries and enjoy at least two of their famous Mai Tai's, even if it's not 5 o'clock somewhere, we have to order a Mai Tai as they are that delicious. We love to sit on the patio near the window so we can watch the seals, yachts, and paddle boarders go by. The staff are all very nice and take great care of their customers. We will continue going to the Wind & Sea as often as we can because it's our happy place and my kids are now bringing their kids there to enjoy and feel the happy memories. read more

We came here for lunch with our oldest and best friends. The day was beautiful and the patio by the docks was comfortable and sunny. The parking is a little tricky, but the construction is not too intrusive. Our waitress was adorable and perky and helped us choose tasty options. The food was unremarkable. But very well prepared and presented. The Wind and Sea is an old favorite of mine and I have dined here dozens of times in the past 50 years or so. I will miss it. This place was exactly the pit stop we were looking for. Just came here because we wanted to be close to the water and grab some appetizers and drinks. We sat right on the railing right next to the harbor which was perfect. We were here for happy hour (4-7 M-F), ordered sashimi, poke, and the coors and IPA for a total of $37. Poke was okay, wish the portion would've been more for it being $12 during happy hour, tad pricey. Sashimi same thing, would've loved to have more pieces or more on the pieces we got, but the fish was really tasty and the IPA was outstanding. My husband and I decided to go out for dinner on New Year's Day. Since there were limited options we decided on Wind and Sea. It's been at least 10 years since we have dined at this restaurant and with the upcoming harbor renovations they will be closing in 2026. The inside is still decent looking and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. I ordered the Ahi Sandwich, and on the menu it states the Ahi is seared served under cooked. When my sandwich arrived I noticed the Ahi was well done. I asked the waitress about it and she said that's how they serve it. She did say that she could ask the kitchen to remake it, and declined. The sandwich and fries lacked any flavor. My husband had ordered a cheeseburger and it was more bun than meat. My husband did order the Mud Pie for dessert, which he loved. Wind and sea is a great spot for a special occasion or a lazy Saturday afternoon. My cheese burger was fantastic and a perfect medium rare. The clam chowder was good, but a little light on the clams. Our waiter, Cole, was funny and happy to please. The food was mediocre at best! Expected better and was disappointed throughout! We ordered the clam chowder to start, it was full of chunks of potatoes with some clams, not very tasty. I had the filet medallions i ordered medium rare towards more on the medium side, when i cut into the meat, the blood went all into my bland mashed potatoes which was served with maybe 5 asparagus which were also very bland but thats ok. I requested horseradish hoping it would enhance my dining experience, that tasted sweet too. I also ordered a bikini tini martini which was much too sweet! Calamari strip (4/5): Got this as an appetizer. It was breaded well and the squid was very tender and meaty. Although I prefer the non-strip version because it's easier to share, I really liked how much meat I was getting with this. Chowder (5/5): Very lovely and comforting. Plenty of seafood inside as well. Mahi-mahi macadamia (5/5): This was definitely the more unique dish on the menu. The macadamia provided some sweetness and crunch texture to the fish. Our family and another visited Wind & Sea Restaurant last Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, during the Dana Point Boat Parade, and it was a really fun evening. It can be very busy during the parade, so we arrived about an hour and a half early. Parking was manageable at that time--as long as you're willing to walk a bit from the new parking structure. Wind & Sea is first come, first served, so we took turns holding our spot in line while the kids walked around the harbor checking out the lights, which made the wait much easier. We opted for an outside table on the patio. It was cold, but the heaters kept it comfortable. Our timing couldn't have been better--we were seated just before the boat parade started. The view of the parade from anywhere inside or outside Wind & Sea is fantastic. With our two kids, we stuck to our usual and ordered the Kids' Chicken Tenders meals. We ordered one with fruit (usually watermelon) and the other with fries, and they split it. Both our 9- and 10-year-old were still hungry afterward, so they ordered the Kids' Ice Cream Sundae--a small scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce or hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry. They loved it. I ordered one as well with hot fudge. The fudge wasn't very hot, but we all enjoyed it. FYI: I noticed later on the bill that the hot fudge is an extra charge over the regular chocolate sauce. My wife and I shared the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, which was nicely prepared, though it could have used a bit more cocktail sauce. We also ordered the Nachos Grande for the table--one of our go-to items here and consistently excellent. FYI: you can order it "dip style" as well for something a little different. The Bread Service featured good sourdough, but the butter portion was small. The kids finished it quickly, so we ordered a second basket and were charged for it--not a deal breaker, just something to note. We also split a cup of the New England Clam Chowder, while our friends had it in a bread bowl. The chowder here is excellent and highly recommended. Our friends had a great experience as well. My buddy ordered the Fish & Chips and loved it--the portion was huge and more than he could finish, which led to some humorous attempts to pass some off to his wife. His wife ordered Oysters on the Half Shell with Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and was very happy. Their 4-year-old daughter had the Kids' Cheeseburger with fries and was perfectly happy. I ordered a specialty hot cocoa with Baileys but could barely taste the Baileys. Our friends also ordered the cheesecake and enjoyed it. Between the food, the atmosphere, and the unbeatable view of the boat parade, Wind & Sea delivers a great overall experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Wow! What a fun way to celebrate my mama's birthday! We ordered the Ono entree, and not only was it tasty, but we like to share so they split it in the kitchen, you pay extra but you get 2 full sides per person! It was yummy and filling! The lady helping us, I believe her name was Meghan, was such a sweetheart and helped make the day fun for my mom and myself! The Mai Tai is great: strong, tasty and with a piece of fresh pineapple hanging on the edge of the glass. But, it SHOULD be: $18+ tax and tip. I requested a tsp. taste of their "albacore" tuna salad (sandwich) and I'm glad I did: NOT good. Very fishy and sure didn't look or taste like albacore. No way. Ended up with fish and chips. The small pieces of fish were good - no complaints. Nice crunch & light crust, fish tasting fresh (though clearly frozen). The fries were room temp and hard; what a shame. I didn't eat them. The cole slaw could have been much, much better. It tasted just of slaw and mayo - no seasonings. Friend gave me a piece of her calamari steak - good crust on a seasoning-less piece of fish. Do they just not care anymore bec. they will be closing for the tremendous re-do of the area? The view is lovely. So the "generous" 3-star rating is for the drink and view: not much to brag about. The day was lovely and we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine. We couldn't have been happier with our decision! We got a table right at the window with an amazing view across the harbor. We were there for seafood and the options were a plenty. Cod fish and chips, stuffed Ono, macadamia crusted Mahi, and multiple salmon offerings. We went with the fish and chips (children's portion), Ono, and Mahi. All were quite different and all were delicious. My favorite was the crusted Mahi with the sweet chive plum glaze. The standard fish and chips with homemade tartar was a close second. I love the Wind and Sea. Our family has come here for many decades. The interior is now dated, I fear for the restaurant's future. It needs a remodel. The location, however, is ideal. The views are incredible, best in the harbor. You can eat inside or outside and there is a bar area. They have an upstairs for private events as well. The food is very good, the menu is mostly seafood. Last time we were here, I had the scallops, which were really amazing. The sauce was perfect, the scallops cooked just right. The mud pie was also tasty and really big. We shared it. The only take away was that the restaurant is so large and most of it was roped off, as if it doesn't get used. But the whole harbor that the city decided to RUIN and turn it into some dumb Newport beach mall by the sea. Made reservations for 2 groups of 8 for dinner on a Saturday post half day PM fishing and we were hungry. Although all 16 of us couldn't talk during our meal, our tables were at least next to each other. Staff were nice and attentive, got our apps and mains in a timely manner. I personally got the clam chowder and ono which were both delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. Our 2 birthday celebrants got comp mud pies which was nice.
