What can I say positive about this restaurant. The construction done to the space and atmosphere was very nice. The food was horrible waited an hour for our food to come out, my salmon was burnt but we waited so long we just ate and left. The reason for the wait they said was because there was a party of 8 that ordered when we ordered so their food was up first smh. Normally I don't even do reviews but for this one I feel like I really have to. First let me start off by saying me & my family of 3 arrived around 7pm on a Saturday night in which I did not know that reservations had to be made so I will take fault for that. The ambiance was nice however seating is very limited unless you have a specified reservation. Once we were seated about 15 minutes later the server was very nice with a great attitude which was probably one of the upsides of the entire visit. The restaurant is a byob they do not have any fountain or liquor on hand but they do provide other bottled drinks and kool-aid. Our order was taken around 7:20 in which we order 2 entrees & 3 extra side orders. As we waited we noticed the same thing the whole restaurant started to notice. NOBODY IN THE WHOLE RESTAURANT FOOD HAS BEEN BROUGHT OUT. There were parties of 12,8,7,5& 2 tables of 2, we asked around and most people had already Been there nearly 2 hours before receiving any parts of there order. Here's the killer part they were literally bringing out plate by plate. The table next to me only had 3 of the 5 people eat to the point where the folks who did eat were done with jackets on ready to leave. Plates were coming out about 5-10 minutes apart. Once we did receive our entrees it had been close to an hour and a half 8:30pm. My girlfriend had the pot roast with candied yams and dressing with the gravy on the side(gravy was still put on top of it) I originally ordered the jordyns special to which I was informed that they ran out of steak for their special. I ended up ordering the lobster tail & lamb chops which were supposed to be jerk but they did not do that either. The candied yams were ok to me but however they had my girlfriend sick & throwing up 10 minutes after we left all the way into the night. All in all I love the idea of what the restaurant is suppose to mean to the owner & I will give them some benefit of the doubt since they are a newly opened restaurant & the owner herself was in the back cooking pregnant but everything just feels so unprepared. We were seated quickly & ordered right away. There was a party of 10; party of 7; party of 5; & 3 parties of 2 already seated when we arrived. One party of 2's food was being brought out while we were being seated. They ate & left & another group was seated. The party of 5 was brought their food all individually 10 minutes apart; with 1 guest never receiving their meals until all guest in their party was finished. 1 person of that group ended up canceling her order due to still not receiving it after so long. The party of 7's food came out after 3 guest orders of the party of 5. The party of 7's food came out individually back to back. After about 30 minutes another group of 2's food was brought out; individually but back to back. After 20 minutes the newest group of 2s appetizer was brought out. Our food was brought out at 8:25. All I can say is wow, this place need to really step there game up. Our server was nice but slow. The apps came out right away. We order the soul rolls, fried green tomatoes and the okra. everything was good except the yams (too much sugar) On to the meals, hubby had the catfish (plate came out 40 mins before every one else in our group) so we sat and watch him eat his food wrong sides but he was happy he really like the cabbage. The birthday girl had chicken alfredo she liked it a lot. I had the smothered turkey wing very dry. The gravy was good I good not eat it. I did eat all of my asparagus. My girl got the ox tails and grits, she had to pull all of the fat off of the ox tails (the fat filled a saucer up. No on to the lamb chops (if that what you want to call them) they were so tuff and small, Hubby said the look like bat wings. For the money we paid $300 plus the should of been a better experience. There is some many good places to eat. You are start losing business if you don't step the game up. I went home and order a pizza. We tried so hard to show support for our people. But it started off good, but snow ball to bad..our waitress was warm, knowledgeable about food. Patient with the questions. Amazing. Free shots-cool. Now here we go, food wise- we ordered oxtails- plastic was left in- yes-in the oxtails,gross , fine no biggie we moved it aside, ate it, she apologized. Ordered a glass of wine- glass came out DISGUSTING, list stainssss ok no biggie right, asked for a different glass please --came back even worse, by then I tried to clean it myself, couldn't . Returned it after one sip. Waitress gets floor manager- she apologized. Ok cool , Luke warm plates, overly salty meals, cheap napkins- but it's ok are it. Received bill SHE CHARGED ME for a dirty glass of wine and claimed I drank my wine and began to argue with me! Are we in the streets? Then decided after 5 mins of debating how it was less then 6 ounces in disgusting glass, and said IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY I WILL REMOVE IT-snatched bill. Wow. I saw this restaurant on open-table and was excited to take my friend here for her birthday. We ordered steak medium well-cooked along with sides. When the food arrived, the steak was overcooked, dry, and hard. We immediately asked for a manager who offered us 25% off the bill. In other words, just eat the try burnt dry steak and we will give you a discount," Really". My friend said no I would like something else because we are hungry. The manager then offered to replace the meals with something they could fix quickly. Turkey wings, beef-short ribs which we settled for. Overall the food was below average for the cost and in my opinion, if the place was in the heart of the Black American Community (Southside/Westside) it wouldn't survive. I just want to say the food was amazing 10/10...I could eat the dressing and cabbage everyday! The only complaint I had about the food was the devil eggs...the eggs were extremely rubbery which was a bummer cause the filling was tasty...The service needs a little work out waitress Pumpkin appeared to be having a bad day as we did not complain we simply asked to swap out 3 things for example my greens were a bit salty but the cabbage was delicious so I asked for cabbage instead& then added more items to our bill because the food was great. When the bill came she still had one of the items we swapped out which was $35 & the new item was $32. We asked that this be fixed on the bill for expense reason and she refused she said just take $3 off the bill...knowing that taxes and tip would be a different amount of this was adjusted...however we didn't complain we just did it...MAINE WAS GREAT!!! I really love the food and the ambience of the restaurant is a little overcrowded but a nice vibe when I go in to pick up my food, but the lack of good customer service and attention to detail as well as organization is disappointing to say the least. Every time, and I mean EVERY TIME I order wings as an add on, you all forget it. You all did it again with this most recent order and basically gave me not only the sides you wanted to rather than what I actually asked for, but also gave me the LAST two things I would've chosen and I was livid. Not to mention every time I come in to pick up the food, there is no designated person to address pick up orders. Almost everyone seems to be irritated when you ask for assistance like you're being a bother and try to avoid eye contact. Again the food is DELICIOUS and I do understand that the amount of customers compared to your staff due to your popularity can be a bit overwhelming, but this is an issue. We drove a long way to try this venue. The food taste like someone really cares about what they serve. Everything was hot and fresh. The post roast empanadas were my absolute favorite, especially with the dipping gravy. My boyfriend is the worst critic and he had nothing to say about his lobster tail. We made a reservation the day before to avoid the crowd. Reservation was for 4:45 and we weren't seated until 5:15. We also didn't order any appetizers so we could quickly get our food. We kept watching them bring out to food to other tables that had been sitting there for hours and they never brought our food. This is my first review ever and this place deserves ALL 5 stars!!!! The food was by far some of the best soul food I've had while living in Chicago. Everything was flavor sooooo good. Went to Jordyn's Soul Cafe today and although we made a reservation, we were told that they take walk-ins and don't really do reservations. Weird answer but okay. We chose our own table which was okay since there was some open. Service was very lack luster. I ordered a Caribbean lemonade which wasn't good initially so I asked could I change it since I didn't like it. Our server Tatianna said they don't do exchanges or refunds. So pretty much if you're not satisfied in any way then that's too bad. I ended up going to the bar and asking her to modify said drink since I couldn't change it. She did and it was much better in my opinion. I ordered the egg rolls and that just wasn't my jam. I also ordered the salmon with mash potatoes and macaroni. Salmon was over cooked and very dry. The macaroni and mashed potatoes were edible. Nothing special. Overall 2/10. Since the place is so small I think they need to do reservation only and not reservations and walk ins because they just don't have the space to accommodate both. They really shouldn't take walk ins due to the limited space anyway. It didn't feel like anyone was happy with being there. Staff just seemed to be like it's another day at work. If they want return customers then the customer service overall should be high quality. I feel like it wasn't worth the money for what I experienced. ordered lobster Mac/cheese. so salty I couldn't eat alot. had only 1 piece of lobster on a quarter of casserole dish. had to ask two different waiters for water. there was construction, drilling, hammering while trying to eat. even it was BYOB, because they were granted their liquor license we were unable to drink our wine. they didn't have their bar set up, we were only able to drink water. no soda was offered. the construction guys were all over and walking around was hard. we left early because we couldn't hear each other speak. the check came, gratuity was added in, but when paying the bill machine asked again for a tip. not a happy interaction. will try it one more time to see if this was a fluke. read more

The food was tasty. However, I expected a better overall experience for the price. Things started to decline for my husband and me during dessert, when the waitress came back with 2 peach cobblers minus the ice cream, which is advertised as being included with all desserts. When I asked about it, she said it didn't come with ice cream and that they didn't have ice cream anyway. Mind you, we were still charged the full $11 for each cobbler. My husband actually asked for Banana Pudding, but she brought the cobbler instead. I'm not one to return food in restaurants, so I said that we would keep the cobbler, but he still wanted the BP. She never brought it. After waiting quite awhile with no BP in sight, we finally asked for the check and noticed that they had already added a 20% gratuity for 2 people. We are generous tippers, so that wasn't the problem. I was bothered that the 20% automatic tip wasn't noted anywhere, and although I would have still tipped, I don't think the service was worthy of an extra $21.00. At my husband's request, I kept my mouth closed and paid the bill. My first experience at Jordyn's left an overall bad taste in my mouth, even though the food wasn't that bad. We went Friday! The service was so poor I'm upset that my time was wasted! First of all my waiter kept leaving out going to sit in her car so when our appetizer came it wasn't hot because she's in her car! We were seated in a high boy table and the table was rocking I asked to be moved and she said ok and several seats became available and she never moved us! She never brought our drinks we had to ask after the food came! They served me a plate of oxtail bones and told me that was all that was left and I advised I didn't want anything then they brought a plate with 4 big fatty oxtails that was dry! The waiter was still in her car! I complained so the guy went outside to get her! As my date was eating he got to his second pork chop and it was so big when he cut it open it was RAW! At this point this guy named bang that had been trying to help our experience better came and took over the situation! They didn't charge us and WE LEFT HUNGRY AND SAD THAT PPL ALWAYS START SOMETHING AND NOT FINISH IT! The owners need to revamp the service and the cooking of the food! The soul rolls so sweet it should be dessert it taste like fried sweet potato pie! Looks really nice and inviting when you walk in but a very small place. The atmosphere with staff was pleasant on arrival until I got my appetizers. The food was fairly good Like advertise. I had the fried green tomatoes and the pot roast empandas, the oxtail dinner with greens and candied yams and took home jerk lamb chops! I enjoyed my food and almost my time while at the restaurant! The downside of dining is poor wait time on food only one serve during my 5:30 pm reservation time, the restaurant was not crowded but yet the only server forgot to put my dinner order in while I ate my appetizers, put my food cost on another customer bill, return to my table to dispute/ argue with me about rather I placed a dinner order until I informed/ refreshed him about what I ordered and that's when another customer sitting across from him told him he charged him for my food. and to top it off 5 more tables with multiple people at each came in after this ordeal and still got their food before me. NO REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS was offered or given for this inconvenience and yet they gave us a bill WITH a MANDATORY 20% GRATUITY tip for a party of just 2 people that's not listed or posted in the menu or no where inside the bathroom size restaurant with messy service this not right and not to mention there is barely parking for 3 cars near the place due to a bus stop and loading zones!!! This place not worth all the hassle I had!!!!! Never the less when it's cold outside expect to have cold food every table sits in the drafty door that opens up on all guess !!'
