I got a carne asada burrito (carne asada, salsa fresco, and guac) and I asked to add cheese and sour cream. My husband got the California burrito (carne asada, potatoes, sour cream, and cheese). The total was $12.20. The burritos were huge and so delicious. This is one of those 'hole in the wall' Mexican restaurants. It was very small and did not have a public restroom. Soup was good , but the adobada and carne asada were both wrong . The adobada was just carnitas with hot sauce, and the carne asada was like rubber . Excellent food! I would suggest the chile verde pork or the chile adobe plate! This place isn't much to look at but the authenticity makes up for it. Ordered the shrimp fajita tacos with guacamole and jalapeños (both on the side) plus a large horchata. The tacos had way too many onions (cut in large squares). They forgot both sides. The chicken soup is the best soup ever!!!! Very friendly service. It's raining today and my daughter is sick so I will go here and get two large bowls for her with freshly made corn tortillas. I just discovered this place about a month ago. I have been here a few time since. Last time I visited, I placed a large to go order for the family. When I got home, we discovered that they added spice to the chicken soup instead of the mild version we ordered. I let them know the next time I arrived and I was surprised by the response... "bring in the receipt next time and we will exchange the soup"!?!? I know it may seem petty to complain about this but the guy was basically saying "I don't believe you" and the value of a bowl of soup is worth more than honoring a mistake or trusting a new customer. I like the food but I don't like their philosophy so I will take the extra five minute drive to my favorite taco shop - Juanita's in Leucadia on the 101. The food is better and their staff is friendly, well trained and respectful. Such a shame Jorge's doesn't embrace the customer service/ customer experience aspect of their business. Their last word to me was " they have to protect their business". I get that but honestly, do you forfeit a customer over a $3 bowl of soup? I will not be back out of principal and I'd like them to learn from this review so they don't make the same mistake again. read more

Husband hasn't been feeling too hot and finally got the tip about the chicken soup from Jorge's. Went and picked up a large regular and a large spicy hoping that it would help make him feel better. I grew up eating pretty much the most incredible home made chicken soup, albondigas, Fideo, and pozole so I can be a hard judge when it comes to soups. First bite reminded me exactly of my grandma's chicken soup she used to make for us. This soup is incredible; so fresh and flavorful! My husband absolutely loved it and it made him feel better too. The soup here is fantastic as many people have noted. It's a lot more well balanced than many of the others in the area, not too salty and lots of avocado. The shrimp burrito is also fairly good. The other stuff is okay, but not memorable. Had the flan, it was a little heavy on the cinnamon and used the entire egg rather than just the egg yolk. Jorge's is THE best Mexican food in Encinitas. The chicken soup is delicious, you can get it regular or spicy. I also love the carne asada burrito. I don't know much about anything else on the menu because I always get one of those or both if I'm really hungry. Been picking up chicken soup, cabbage salad and torta sandwiches here for over 20 years. Consistemtly good. Best to show up and order, as the phone is not answered when they get busy- which is most of the time. Daily specials are always good options.
