Purchased two suits recently. Somewhere along the way the shop did a bait and switch and when we picked them up today, we were given one suit which we hadn't ordered. They must have messed up when placing the alternations order or while putting it all together for the alterations department. The saleswoman was pleasant but seemed inexperienced in processing our order which required alternations and ordering on line for missing pants and shirts. The suit that was delivered to us was one my son had tried on for sizing and he did not wish this particular suit because he didn't like the color and thought the fabric felt cheap. Imagine our surprise when this was the suit that was presented to us today. The original saleswoman and Cole spoke and Cole initially noted that we could return the wrong suit for a refund and order the correct suit that we thought we had ordered. After speaking to another salesperson in the shop he informed us that this was not possible. Customer service offered us points on our account. No need to do this, we'll never buy anything from Jos A Bank again. No wonder they are going out of business in many areas. read more

Boyfriend and I went to Men's Warehouse and Jos A Bank looking for a suit. We definitely enjoyed our experience at Jos A Bank! We were acknowledged immediately upon entering the location. The associate took his measurements in a professional manner and helped us find his size (somewhat obscure). The tailor took over and let him try on a pair of dress shoes so he could see the pants/hemming more realistically. Both employees were friendly, professional and helpful. They asked when we would need the suit back and when we said anytime, they quoted us two weeks. The hemming was $17, and the suit was $375. Overall compared to other places we went this was also a great deal. read more

Solid service and damn good clothes. Half of my dress shirts, and a fair amount of my pants, are from Jos A Bank. First off kudos to the employees here, as they are extremely qualified. Whether relatively new to sharp dressing, or perhaps a business executive, you'll like the people who work here. They know how to not only measure you, but have been helpful with invaluable advice over the years. I forgot his name, but part of the reason I've discovered purple, is due to him getting me to step up my game. The ties and black pants pair well with this. I've worn them at job interviews, community functions, and it's part of life funerals. Every item I've bought from here has lasted a long time. Also just so you know, I'm vicious to clothing, equipment, and the like. If you're a guy that's known for this, here's where you should go. As soon as I walked into the door, I saw a staff on the register. He saw me, but he didn't care about the customer walking into the store. Then a young kid ran all the way from the back of the store to greet me. It was clear that the young kid was trying his best to do the job right. But other than the kid, all other staffs were clearly not working and not interested in selling. For the lack of better word, this place is a shithole. The kid clearly wanted to do his best to give good vibes to customers. But all of the other staffs in the store were rude. If you need a good suit, avoid this store at all cost. It's about to get brutal. In a nutshell: Customer service was inconsiderate to the bride-to-be and offensive to the best man. A few months back, this was the first place my fiancé, his best man and I visited to inquire about groom and groomsmen wedding attire. So of course we were super excited, ready to ask questions and learn something new. My fiancé wanted me to come along because he knew I'd be be helpful and ask about anything that he might not have thought about during our time there. Plus, he knows that I have an eye for fashion and appreciates my honesty. The guy wants to look the best he can on his big day - why not bring along the one person who knows his style the best? Anyways, here I go (the bride-to-be) asking specific questions that would help make his decision. However, I DID NOT appreciate the man who helped us. Most questions I asked, he would cut me off short before I even finished. What else? It's like he didn't care about what I had to say because it was "the grooms suit". In no way did I exemplify a controlling "bridezilla" and take the limelight away from my fiancé's moment - after all, we are shopping for HIM, not me. There was one question I asked that made me draw the line after the sales associates response: Me: "If we get the suit customized, will the width of the pants be tailored to fit him better?" (the bottom of the pants were super wide and looked like grandpa pants - for a lack of better words) Sales associate: "IT'S. A. SUIT. They're supposed to look like that" (he said it with a pause in between each word as if trying to make a point, like I didn't know any better than he did - RUDE) Not only that, but he told my fiancé's best man that they would NEED to customize his suit because "this big guy right here needs it" (while patting him on the belly, smiling and chuckling about it). He did the exact thing a few more times, disregarding his personal space. Look I get it, he's just trying to be humorous and some people wouldn't take offense to that. But he made the best man feel uncomfortable - not cool. To sum it all up, we never went back. Skipped Mens Warehouse and went straight to a business that specialized in affordable costumed tailored suits and shirts - who cares deeply about the opinion of others involved and who made sure my fiancé looks SNATCHED on his big day. Zero stars if possible. My fiance got fitted for a suit here with his bestman. Gentleman that helped them was nice, and very accommodating from what he told me. But from then on, it's gone downhill. I don't know who is running this place, but it has really, extremely poor customer service. First - for some odd reason when the other groomsmen tried to go to other Jos A. Bank locations...the suit INFORMATION wasn't available?!?? One would think that it would be in the system already after my fiance' paid for his suit. Second - we had to call multiple times TIME AND TINE AND AGAIN because the groomsmen kept saying that when the group code was given, there was no information WHATSOEVER about what suit to get. Third - the suit was ready AND NO ONE CALLED US, we had to call them to ask?!?! This experience has been a complete nightmare. Jos A Banks, please - train your people, your management whoever you need to school over there to get organized somehow. Because the suits you are selling aren't $100 suits from flea markets... they are $600 and up plus suits. Short Version: I was a co-best man in my brother's wedding and ordered a suit at this store through a "bridal party" code--i.e. I gave them a number, they pulled up the wedding, took my measurements, and ordered the suit for me. It took over a month for it to be in and ready. I show up at the wedding and it was the wrong suit and ruined the pictures and upset the bride. When I called to inform them of this, their employee denied responsibility then said: "I'm not sure what I can do for you, you got a really good deal on the suit." He also hung up on me. Long Version: I went in on August 27th to order my suit for my brother's wedding (which was on 9/30). They take the code I have, pull up the wedding and confirm the wedding party as well as my name. I then get measured and, as I'm an abnormally sized male (6'4" and 230lbs with short legs), they tell me they need to order it. Not a problem, I'd expected this. They tell me that it'll be in within 4-5 days and we'll have it ready well in advance of the wedding. On August 30th, I receive a phone call from the same sales associate. He lets me know that the suit had come in but that it was the wrong type but that they'd already reordered it and it would just be another few days. I thought this was weird since they didn't have to do anything except order the suit that was with the party, but I understand that mistakes happen and we still had a month until the wedding so it wasn't a big deal. On September 21st I still hadn't heard from them and I begin to get anxious so I gave them a call. They told me that they weren't finding it in the store and asked for a few more days--while assuring me that we would still have time to tailor it. I later learned that they actually placed the order for the suit after this call. The following Monday (9/25), I still hadn't heard so I call again and speak with Tom (possibly Joe? Regardless, he was a competent employee so it shouldn't be hard for the store to ID him) who was extremely helpful and polite. He was also able to find the suit in the back and I went in that day to get it tailored. It was finished that Wednesday and I picked it up Friday. It's a tighter fit than I expected (for reasons I'll discover later) but it looks great otherwise and I'm a very big believer in "all's well that ends well." If this was the end of the story--despite the numerous annoying delays and requiring me to call and continually harass them--I'd be leaving a 5 star review solely for Tom's competence, understanding and excellent service. I come into the hotel lobby the Saturday morning of the wedding and the suit is NOTICEABLY a MUCH lighter shade of grey. Those of you that have been in weddings or are married yourself know that, obviously, the bride was upset that her wedding photographs will have that stupid, different shade of grey in them forever. From later conversations, it appears that the sales associate sent back the correct suit and manually reordered a new, slim cut suit (despite my size) in a different color. For no reason. I call the store the following day to discuss this. At this point, what I wanted was a mea culpa, an apology, and a refund. If they had been willing to throw in a coupon or something by way of apology, that would have been a thoughtful gesture but I wasn't looking for that. Instead of receiving any of the things I had listed above, the employee continued to state that we'd received the right suit. Once he finally accepted that we hadn't, he then moved on to say that WE made the mistake when *I* requested they return the suit to reorder it in a slim cut. (In reality, as discussed, I was merely told it had come in wrong and that they were reordering it). He then, finally, said "well I'm not sure what you want me to do, you got a really good deal on the suit." I got upset about that and used a bad word indirectly as an adjective (I'd never curse at another person) and then the employee hung up on me. I never received an apology of any sort. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. Every suit I own was from Jos. A and I was going to use them for my own wedding next year. I'll never return. ****EDIT**** Prior to Lauren's comment,I had already reached out to JABListens via email. They likewise stated that they'd reached out to the appropriate persons who believed the return of 'my' suit and a pittance of store credit (issued via reward points) was a fair resolution of this matter. They did not respond to my followup inquiries or requests for information. Rather than accept that offer, I've decided its better to keep my review publicly available in the hopes that I can prevent this situation from happening to someone else. Don't make the same mistake my brother did and trust your wedding (or business, generally) to Jos. A. Banks. If I could give a negative amount of stars I would. I have anything against the brand, in fact the store in Reston or Falls Church is perfectly fine. But this particular store customer service is the worst of the worst. We went in dressed in plain shorts and T-shirt, as one does at a mall. We walk in the empty store. The two sales workers eye us. I made eye contact wanting to ask if they carried suspenders. They immediately look away. I though it was weird, but not a problem I'll just go around look for myself. As we walk around, one of the sales person run up and very curtly ask " is there something you need or are looking for?" We told him, and without even showing us the ones they carry asked if we tried amazon. I said no and asked if they didn't have any. He said they do but might not be a fit for us. Whaaat. He pointed at a bottom shelf and stood there. They didn't have the color we wanted on display. We asked if they had the color in the back. He goes on to say no and that the color we wanted wouldn't work on our skin tone anyways. Whaaat?! We decided to just leave told him thank you have a good day. I've returned on 3 separate occasions to purchase an additional shirt in the last 3 weeks, and each time I've been completely ignored by the staff. I don't ever write reviews, but my latest experience prompted me to. I walked in, immediately followed by another gentleman. The lady with flame red hair completely ignored me, but the gentleman behind me was immediately greeted (apparently he looked like he was buying a suit, and I was not). I went to find the shirt and size I needed on my own, walked to the counter, and waited. Nothing. I eventually got fed up and left. This store will never get another dime from me. read more

I find that people either adore or hate Jos. A. Bank. Given the star rating, you can see that I am in the former category. If you understand how they operate, do a little bit of math, and never pay full price for anything, you can get good quality clothes for a great price. And the service in every one of their stores that I have bought from has been superb. This weekend I went to the Fair Oaks store to pick up a new sportscoat or two, depending on what their deals were. After searching the rack for a couple of minutes, a sales agent came up to me and asked me if I had been helped. He saw that I had picked up a size way too big, scanned me, and nailed my size dead on. The one area where I have found JAB to be weak on is getting alterations done. It can often take quite a long time. This is why I chose the store in the mall. The last time I purchased here they informed me of the tailor in the mall that does a great job with alterations, and can usually accommodate a fast turn-around. But the coat I selected fit perfectly. With the specials they had, I ordered two more, scheduled to be delivered by the end of the week, free shipping. At the end, I paid $205 per jacket. Sure, their coats aren't Brooks Brothers quality, but I've gotten a lot of wear out of the suits and jackets I've gotten here in the past. And that's why I keep coming back. read more

Due to a HUGE screw up on the part of Jos. A. Bank which resulted in a ruined wedding and fight that tore apart our family, I had to call the store to get some kind of reparations. The sad sad man that answered the phone and DIDN'T APOLOGIZE for the store's error (which we confirmed with corporate on several occasions) blamed us for the store's mistake. After getting upset over his lack of any help whatsoever and incredibly rude demeanor (have you ever worked customer service before? Was this your first day on the job???) the man on the phone HUNG UP ON US! Everything is fine now as we have hired a lawyer to clean up this poor jos a bank employee's mistake but please if you are considering this store for your wedding (or other needs) don't come here. There are places to rent/buy tuxes and suits online that are WAY better and cheaper and don't require law suits to get the job done. P.S. Myself, my fiancée and one of my groomsmen walked into your store at Fair Oaks Mall yesterday around 3:30 pm to view your tuxedo options for my upcoming wedding. We were met by two of the most unprofessional, unhelpful, and blatantly rude retail associates who seemed to be uninterested in assisting us. When we first mentioned wanting to see the tuxedo options, we were immediately asked by the first representative if we had been to Men's Wearhouse and Macy's. It gave us the impression he didn't want to help us while also assuming we weren't able to afford shopping in this store. I find it impossible to believe it's an acceptable practice for your associates to offer your competitors services before even engaging your customers to inquire their needs. Nevertheless, we persisted to inquire about the tuxedo catalog every store has so we could view other options. That's when the second associate stepped in and immediately told us there was no catalog. Again, giving us the impression they did not want us to be there. Once my groomsman was able to clarify the catalog he was describing, the second associate of yours was able to walk directly over to where it was and handed the catalog to the first associate. However, it was done with such a disgusting attitude. He wasn't apologetic for his being confused and wrong, and purposely never made eye contact with us. Which is also another clear sign he did not want to serve us. I've worked in retail before, and normally people would at least have the decency to hide their disagreeable nature until the customer leaves the store. But this particular associate did not care to let us know his intention to be dismissive towards us. So, rather than continue considering spending well over a few thousand dollars at this establishment, we took our business elsewhere. Again, this disgraceful and offensive behavior was all done in the presence of my fiancée, who is already under enough stress planning a wedding. So to have to endure this experience only added to her worry. I hesitate to associate your representatives' behavior as being racist, but it was most definitely ignorant and unnecessary. I chose not to even go back and get their names, because there was a likelihood my demeanor would have taken an ugly turn for the worst. But your establishments have cameras and should be able to locate us in the Fair Oaks Mall store. This location is a nightmare. The staff is incredibly rude and screwed up orders for three people I know. My fiance had to get an outfit for a wedding he was in. He was originally told my staffers that the outfit could be rented. When he went to the store to put in the rent order, they told him that it could not be rented and had to be purchased. They also told him that he could return it, just like the receipt says. When he tried to return the outfit, the staff were incredibly rude to him. They called him a liar and were saying very rude things to him. They eventually did the refund, but my fiance left the store feeling horrible about it even though he was in the right and following the return instructions that are printed on the receipt. Upon looking at our bank statement for the refund, we found that it was $74 short of the original purchase amount. Because my fiance was treated so poorly before he did not wish to return to the store to try to solve this problem. So I tried chatting with someone through the online support system. They contacted the store and said there was a note stating that one of the articles returned was exchanged(it wasn't) and that they couldn't refund something we still had(we didn't have it). Finally, the person I was speaking to said they would refund the rest minus a $12 alteration fee that we didn't even get. So, after all that trouble, we are now charged an imaginary alteration fee. Our friend, who was also in the wedding, was given the wrong shoes(they were labelled incorrectly by the store). And another friend ordered a full outfit for a different wedding and the store ordered the wrong outfit. I don't know anyone who has had a good experience at this store, but know many who have had horrible experiences there. read more

The only reason that this location did not receive 1 star was because of Kieth, a sales associate that is no longer with this branch. He was fantastic and I bought many suits from him. I revisited this store recently and it was as if everything that I said to the sales associates went completely over their heads. They would ignore my requests, even the most simple, and continually demonstrate their lack of regard for what the customer is asking. One individual, I made the assumption that he was some sort of store manager, was extremely rude to us. I was so appalled at him and the way he treated someone who has spent thousands of dollars at his store (as if that matters). He very rudely tried to tell me that tweed was not a cloth and instead a pattern and would say things like, "alright, well now that we understand that." I tried letting him know that tweed was indeed a cloth (wool) and that it comes in many patterns. He didn't seem to grasp the idea that the customer is always right very well. He did teach me that he was not interested in my business at his store ever again. Located inside Fair Oaks Mall on the 2nd floor is Jos A. Bank. I've always gone into this chain and walked right out because the prices are pretty high. When the store is running a sale prices are actually not that bad at all. Today I decided to walk in here to look at some shirts. There really isn't anything special layout of the store. Shirts and shoes in the back, suites and pants on the right and so on. Anyhow, back to my shopping. To my surprise they were running a sale on just about everything. I really needed just plain white button down shirts. One of the specials they were running were 3 for $99. To me that is a pretty good price, I've been into Men's Warehouse and they are at $50 a pop. I don't ever think I've gotten one for cheaper even when on sale. Anyhow it was pretty slow in there. I was immediately greeted by a sales person. I told him I was just looking around. He noticed I was looking in the shirt section and asked if he could help find any size or color me. I have a fat neck (size 18) and short arms at 32 inches. Turns out I'm in the big and tall section. I don't really think I'm that big =) and I know 5' 8" isn't tall =) . The salesman Matt, was kind enough to help me dig through the shirts looking for the plain white or ivory shirts. Turns out only their Executive shirts were part of the special. Turns out there were none in the style I liked. Matt then said he could order them and have them shipped to the store and I could still get the sale price. I think the sale ends in a couple of days. Since I work pretty close to Fair Oaks Mall, I was told I could have them delivered to the store. If I had it shipped to my house it would be $15 but if it went to the store it would be $5. Turns out Matt got the fee waived so all is good. Although I didn't get to walk out with my shirts today, I still think it went well. Customer service is always key, and I never mind paying a few more buck if I get it. Why the 5 star rating, it all goes back to the service. My salesman was not pushy at all. He asked once if I need a tie or anything else, I said No, and that was it. I've been in other places and they've always try to add more on. I remember one time I went into Men's Warehouse for 1 shirt. I was in a rush and just bought it and went out, the salesman was trying to add more on and was pissed when I said no. Do not rent formal wear from this store. Key problems: (1) I was not sized properly - the coat was too tight and the vest was too short causing the shirt to show at the bottom, (2) the rental was not delivered until the day before the event leaving little time for corrections, and (3) I was assured that replacement items would be shipped overnight to correct the unsatisfactory fit - they were not. The store manager, Jennifer Goodwin proved to be an absolutely terrible store representative. She explained that I should not expect the right fit since this was a "just rental". I agree that expecting a custom fit would have been un unrealistic expectations however a decent fit seems a reasonable goal for a $200 tuxedo rental. Unable to offer a solution for the short vest (they only come in one length - too short), she promised to have another coat shipped overnight and available "first thing in the morning". The store opens at 10 am so that was my expectation. I arrived a noon to find the replacement had not been expedited but was part of the regular delivery. I waited in the store another 90 minutes hoping the replacement would arrive but it did not. This Ms. Goodwin blamed on the delivery company. The one thing Ms. Goodwin did right was to refund the rental cost in full but since I expect this will be the only time my daughter will be married, I would have preferred to avoid the stress of the rental and delivery process and the discomfort and shabby appearance of the poor fitting tuxedo. In all fairness to the Jos. A. Bank store in the Fair Oaks Mall, all of the other sales associates and employees were clearly upset with our ordeal and tried anything they could think of to remedy the situation on our behalf. One particular employee they referred to as their "expediter" deserves a special call out as he went trolling through the mall in search of the delivery person, presumably to help get the replacement coat to the store quicker, if possible. Had it not been for the other employees, I would have thought a zero-star review would have been more appropriate. In short I would think twice about renting formal wear at this store and, if I were part of the Jos. A. Bank management team, I would think twice about Ms. Goodwin's future employment. read more

Purchased 2 new suits from here during one of their bigger sales before Christmas. Sales manager was very helpful and helped me find the suits that I wanted and ordered them for me since they didn't have my size in stock. My only complaint is that I received no call that my 2nd suit had been delivered to the store and had to call after several weeks of not hearing anything. We went yesterday to buy a suit for a special occasion. Had no expectations as it was a Saturday. We were very pleasantly surprised. We were approached by a great salesman (Joe) and he was a tremendous help. It was a great experience and we ended up getting a wonderful suit , two shirts and two ties for a great great price. They have wonderful customer service and I recommend them highly. There was no hard sales pitch at all and Joe showed us what we asked for and didn't push anything else us. We choice JAB for our wedding. Had the most horrible experience!! They got our order wrong, over charged our groomsmen, then complained to our wedding party that this wedding is giving them lots of issues. We will never go there for anything else. Your wedding is so stressful and overwhelming and these people add to it. They shipped two tuxes to different stores than the rest but in the same area. I couldn't imagine a worse experience. If you're thinking about going to to order yout wedding party suits, forget about it. They got our order wrong, told us they would be on time but pushed the date back twice and one suit NEVER GOT SHIPPED. This place is sleezy and you can't count on them for absolutely anything. The groomsmen also got overcharged to get their pants hemmed which was promised to be $12 and then ended up being $33. disgusting. read more

I needed some polo shirts for summer vacation. I went by this J. Banks with moderate expectations. I found 3 patterns that I like, but 2 were not in stock at that store in size medium. They offered to order them for me and ship direct to my home address. I reluctantly agreed, I prefer to always do cash and carry. The clerk asked me for my credit card, which I gave to him, although I wanted to pay cash. The clerk said I wouldn't be charged anything he just needed the card because their computer program needed it . That made no sense to me and I don't want my card information exposed to unnecessary threats. I asked for the card back - he summoned his manager. I explained to the manager what was happening and the manager took a J.Bank's gift card ran it thru the machine and got the computer program to accept that. Then the clerk again tried repeatedly to complete the purchase without success. At this point I had invested 25 minutes standing at the check-out counter. The clerk asked me to wait again and went to get the manager. The manager was also busy with his own customer at that time - (convincing his customer that the jacket was not too tight across the shoulders {it was!} ). I gave up and went to other stores that are in business to do business. Jos. A. banks gets one star because I can't figure out how to give them 1/2 a star. read more

I am generally a fan of Jos A Banks, which sells tasteful if conservative formal and casual clothing. Wayne and Joe helped me out when I needed some clothes on short notice. They were not pushy or impatient, and helped me process my return of clothes which did not fit quite so well, and confirmed and held clothes for me that were in a better fitting size. I've come to expect excellent service from this chain and this Mall location is no exception. Note that it is near "Macy's II" which is the furniture outlet on the side opposite West Ox. read more
