This review is for stylist Samantha Stang! I would give Samantha 10 stars if I could, she is amazing. Whenever I come in I know that my hair is in the best care and she's always going to do what's best for both my style preference, but more important my hair type. Note: I have dark, wavy/frizzy hair that is really reactive to humidity. I've had a hard time finding someone that understands my hair type until now :) We've done color (highlights), cut (styled to perfection), and keratin treatment (because Texas summers require that for my hair type). Everything was done to perfection. The best part, other than feeling and looking amazing, is that Samantha really takes the time to explain what she's doing and how to best take care of your hair after and never pushes product on you. I've been going to this salon for about 6 months however due to the cost of their prices I'm going to look for another salon. I was charged $95 for a trim with no tip included. I don't color it or get any special treatments done. I realized after looking at my finances I just can't afford to go here. The girls at the checkin desk and the hairdresser were nice and polite. There's nothing outstanding about the salon though, the price was too high for the service I went in for. read more

Mike Jones at the Domain location is, unequivocally, hands-down, the best hair stylist I've seen in Austin. Over the past seven years, I've had eight stylists for my curly (2c/3a) hair. While one or two have been ok, it's been my experience that many don't have the specific knowledge for cutting curls. It really requires the right kinds of layers to de-bulk and free the texture. Mike cut my hair wet, which I strongly prefer to a dry cut (that often turns into random pruning, in my humble opinion), and the result was pure perfection. He blew out my hair to carefully touch up all the layers--and I could not have been happier with the finished product. He is a master stylist and a hair architect. And a nice person to boot. Cass, my stylist, put me at ease right away. My ends were looking pretty rough and I wanted some more body to my hair. I was also considering some subtle curtain bangs, and she had great advice about how to style them. She started with a shampoo, and I opted for an additional conditioning treatment which was accompanied by lovely scalp massage. OKAY SO..... i had booked a hair appointment at a different salon for a full day's worth of coloring and cutting my insanely long mane that i hadn't gotten done in over a year. I asked off of work and everything. Long story short, they booked the wrong date and I would have had to wait another long painful month to get it done, and ask off work again. I used to live in the Domain and had been here once before so I was like what the hell, I'll call and see if they can get me in. I call at 11:30 and they are MAGICALLY able to get me in at 12:30 for exactly what I needed, it was fate. So that's great enough, but THEN I meet NICOLE Sok. She's super sweet and I show her a picture of what I want, a long layered balayage. We begin the 4 hour daunting process and I'll admit I was nervous at first bc I rarely ever get my hair done, so I never know what to expect. She suggests adding a rooted smudge at the top and I say ok sounds great.... Let me freaking tell you. The second she started blow drying a single section of my hair I about jumped out of my damn seat. I had a completely basic all-over color when I sat down, with hair all the way down to my butt. In four short(ish) hours, she took me from looking like a basic Amish girl to a whole new modern-day woman. I would say I was speechless, but honestly I couldn't shut up about how incredible it was. The way the colors PERFECTLY mix in with my natural hair, the rooted base she added, the cut and the layers were all exactly how I could've imagined it but better. It literally looks better than the picture I showed her. If you go to this salon, ASK FOR HER or you will regret it sorry not sorry. Every single hair on my head is thanking me and I owe it all to her. I am giddy with joy and usually get my hair done once a year but I booked 6 months out with her just so I can see her work her magic again. I mean wow. Nice looking place but had such a terrible haircut. For $65 you expect a professional cut and for the stylist to know what they're doing. It truly amazes me that salons employ Super Cuts quality stylists and mark up their prices 400%. The female stylist was very unsure of herself while cutting my hair and didn't seem to have any idea of what she was doing. My hair lengths are not blended properly and there are very noticeable harsh transitions between the clipper and scissor cut sections. Lloyd Christmas had a better haircut. read more

I was wanting to do some balayage but wasn't sure about partial or full. Sam was great with asking questions about what I wanted for color and dimension. I'm a little torn on this review. I'll explain and then maybe you'll see why. First off I had a very negative experience with a stylist there. I couldn't get to my usual stylist in Minnesota so I decided to try this place. I came in to get my extensions moved up and a haircut. Everything was going fine and my stylist went ahead and removed EVERY single extension before all of a sudden coming to the realization that she did not have the appropriate tape to put my extensions back in. She asked if I could come back on another day or call my usual stylist to help her figure out what to do and where to get the tape. Let's be clear - I am not a hair professional which is why I go to one. I do not understand how she did not realize after taking even ONE of the extensions out that she would not be able to put them back in?! It seemed like she was blaming me for not knowing they did not specialize in the extensions I had in my hair?? So there I am with all my extensions gone and no answers. She half heartedly offered a blowout and proceeds to give me one that looked worse than if I had blow dried my hair myself. I walk out with a bag of my extensions and feeling like I had just wasted my time. Here is the best part. I go to pay and my bill is 315 dollars!!! I knew it was going to be $15 per extension but I had no idea that I was going to be paying so much for crappy service. At that point I just wanted to leave so I paid and did. ONLY to be called an hour later that they accidentally OVERCHARGED me by almost 100 dollars. At this point I was fed up and talked to a manager JORDAN was amazing. She listen to my concerns and promptly apologized. She refunded every dollar and assured me that she would use this as a teaching moment for the salon. She turned a very unpleasant experience into a positive one. It's for this reason and this reason only that I would suggest giving that place a shot because she was awesome. read more

Well to start off I brought a picture of how I wanted my hair cut and then I explained it in detail and showed Nicole exactly the length I wanted. My hair was very long and I told her I wanted to have it past my shoulders and layered. She cut it to the tips of my earlobes and did not layer it. I left there crying and in tears and then contacted this place and they didn't even get back to me so I had to go to another salon and have them fix it. I have seen Lawrence several times now and am beyond pleased every time. I just saw him again this morning. He knows what he is doing. He asks for parameters up front, adheres to them and creates a fantastic cut and style each time. I prefer to rely on my stylists opinion and expertise and appreciate that I am able to trust him implicitly. My philosophy is that I prefer a high end stylist because they are clear about their visions. I am not an Artist that specializes in the direct beautification of others. Lawrence is and he delivers. Lawrence helps me feel beautiful even in times when I just don't feel attractive at all. In addition to trusting Lawrence's extensive experience and knowledge, I appreciate him for who he is as an individual. He has character and a heart and he really delivers on his mission by "helping someone feel good about what and who they see in the mirror." He is someone I would consider a good soul and I feel comforted by that, considering forty five minutes is a long time to sit in someone's chair with one on one contact. Side note - he is a fabulous dresser but no worries, I wear yoga pants and a sweatshirt each time, he still accepts me. Outstanding service from all individuals from the beginning of the experience to the end. All individuals, clients and associates alike, are genuinely smiling and conversational. I travel frequently and schedule changes at the last minute. The salon keeps my formula on hand so no issue when I am unable to book with my stylist. Crystal, Becky and Mary Joy were all fabulous. Sadly though the salon has no cell service! Sitting there 3 hours as a business person without service is very inconvenient! I wonder if they tried cell phone boosters. Also a minor inconvenience is that tips need to be treated separately. I rarely carry cash. read more

Becky Brown is hands down, one of the best stylists I've ever had. I came in with an uneven cut from another salon. I was so stressed out and afraid to cut it even more, but Becky fixed it and made it absolutely gorgeous. She also educated me on hair care to help my maintain my color and healthy hair. I recently got it cut shorter than usual and she made sure I understood how to style it myself so I knew how to do it moving forward. I can't recommend Becky enough. This review is primarily about my stylist, Bo Paschall, as opposed to the salon. In the 20+ years and probably 15 stylists I've had, Bo stands out as someone with special talent and an unusual attention to detail. In my first few visits, I remember being struck by the detailed questions he was asking and his genuine interest in ensuring that my cut was exactly what I was looking for. He's able to effectively create an environment where you can have honest dialogue and when you don't like something, you feel comfortable sharing what those things are. It's this mix of talent and deep interest in continual improvement which have continued to bring me back to work with him over the last year. I liked him so much, I followed him to Jose Luis from a former salon where he worked. As someone who never much cared for any stylist I've had in the past, I can't sing his praises loudly enough. Do yourself a favor and book with this man. As far as the salon is concerned, I've found the employees friendly and responsive. It's always clean and the general vibe is one of laid back professionalism. If Bo is indicative the the type of talent they attract, you'll be in good shape. read more

This review is for the boutique, because I checked Yelp prior to going in and realized there weren't any reviews, so I had no idea what to expect price point wise. I pass the salon and boutique multiple times a week as I work out next door and have always wanted to go in because the clothes in the window are adorable! Today was a beautiful day and the doors to the salon were wide open so I just decided today was the day to check it out. Now, granted I was sweaty and gross because I had just worked out, but I was just looking and wasn't going to try anything on. There were lots of employees milling around the front and not one person acknowledged me. The small selection of clothes and jewelry is on point, in price, quality, and trendiness! Around $50-$100 for most items. I recognized some brands I like and found a few new ones. I definitely plan to go back this next week when I'm not working out to try on and make a purchase. I can see this being a frequent spot for me as long as I get better customer service from here on out. read more

This review is geared towards the customer service, not the stylist. I walked into Jose Luis Boutique because I work nearby, to discuss some options as far as a cut + balayage on June 5th around 2pm. I already had an appointment at another salon for the following day, but figured i'd support local business and learn some more. The front desk receptionist, explained that all their stylist must have a consultation prior to doing any-type of color appointment (a normal practice). At this point, I had not done any research on the salon, and was inquiring just about quality of stylist-- she recommended Lawerence. She explains that he will do my consultation and cut at 4:45pm today, and that he was a master stylist (explaining his pricing) and my coloring would be done the following day. I was happy since my appointment at KaRu was set for tomorrow anyways-- worked out perfect (which i explained to the associate) Being from San Francisco, I understood that a master stylist is understandably going to be 50% more. I accepted and said, see you at 4:40pm. I even asked if she would like to place a credit card on file, and she declined. My arrival was disappointing to say the least- I check in and the same front desk associate gave me a hasty "your appointment actually was changed to Delia, Lawerence had a client run over." Generally, I'm indifferent. However, I walked in and you just explained and pushed a master stylist-- and then change my appointment to someone else? Without a phone-call? I said, I could reschedule both since I wanted my consultation, cut, and color to be with the same person. She explained that the stylists all speak in close-quarters and that my color appointment was still as-scheduled with Lawerence. Delia proceeded to do my haircut, and she was fabulous. Again this review is not geared the stylist. Upon checking out- I find out that the stylist either accepts venmo, cash, or check for their tip... I felt that was something I should of been told when scheduling my appointment, but was even more pushed back when she kept insisting I use Venmo. I mean maybe if I knew the girl, i would-- but as a last minute tipping point.. you would think she would of wanted me prepared.... especially if I did not have cash... or I did not have a checkbook... or if i did not bring cash... or if i literally did not have time to drive to the bank. Anyways... At this point, I was more than over this experience- I drove to the bank, got cash, dropped it off.. and explained (more-so, for a coaching opportunity for the associate explained my frustration) Her response is ERKING my soul: "Lawerence is off on Wednesdays, the only balayage i had was Friday at 3pm with Lawrence, or we can do your coloring with Delia tommorow at 2pm.." Just a re-cap: - I wanted to get this done today and tomorrow (was shocker their was openings buttt a girl wasn't going to say zip) - Master Stylist - So from the get, i was mislead and stuck in this situation. Iv been seeing Teresa for almost 15 months now. I love coming to the Jose Luis Salon & Boutique. Its a Salon with a modern fashionable style from the moment you walk into the salon you feel like you're in a London/NY top salon yet no matter what they always make you feel at home. The receptionist staff always make you feel welcome. Whilst waiting I like to look around at the boutique. They have Awsome jewelry, books makeup & much more to check out. All of the stylist always seem cheerful with smiles on their faces. Teresa has been taking care of my hair since it was distorted and burnt by another salon. She always treats my hair with the tlc that it needs whilst listing and advising me on my styles & colors. I always leave feeling fresh and in love with my hair!
