tldr; Fresh comfort food, forgettable service. It seems this place went through a rebrand since all their menus say, "Joseph's Brunch House". We came in on a Sunday morning, which is peak brunch energy, and the opening moments were... a bit confusing. It's apparently seat-yourself, which is fine, but there were no signs and no one behind the counter gave any direction. We ended up following another group's lead and seating ourselves. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. My corned beef skillet was hot and fresh, and the fresh-squeezed orange juice was on point. No real complaints there--though nothing especially memorable either. Service started off fine, but once the food arrived, it felt like they forgot we existed. By the time we left around 10:30 AM--when you'd expect things to still be busy--the place was mostly empty, but we still had to flag someone down for coffee refills and boxes. This place clearly wants to be the fancier brunch experience but still has some legwork to do. Tightening up service would take them to the next level. My son-in-law and daughter live in Northville and asked us to meet them here one evening for a quick dinner. I had never been here and frankly didn't even know it existed. Classic hole in the wall! Wow did I love it. The food is cooked more or less right in front of you, and it is clearly a family place. I had breakfast that evening and I can't wait to go back to have the blueberry pancakes. My son-in-law had the cowboy skillet and they were not a lot of words said, as we both ate our dinner. My wife loved her Cobb salad, and my grandkids didn't talk much as they ate their chicken fingers ha ha ha I plan to try pretty much everything on the menu. And yes it's a little pricy for a coney but it should be called "The Amazing High Quality Coney" I've eaten here 100's of times and it's worth every penny for the quality and the love they put into every meal!!! The bill did not have a breakdown of items and I didn't have that much cash on me so they charged 3.84% or so for my credit card use. When I questioned the total she told me the beverage prices! It's better business to take 10% off for cash than add for a credit card, it leaves a bad taste. Been to other restaurants in area and fine paying more based on type. We did eat outside and had good service, inside looked clean but only 1-2 tables full at 1:00. Food was okay. When the dressing for the Greek salad came out & I saw it, I knew it was the generic ones I don't care for & it was, so I didn't even use it. AMAZING! The atmosphere is so comforting and cozy while the service is exceptional. I got the chicken finger pita and it was amazing one of the best I've had from a Coney Island. I felt like family coming here everyone is so friendly and kind. There was never a second my drink was empty, they are on top of it!! They tried charging my daughter 13 something for a dinner sale that was $5 on the menu don't know how many kids they do this too that pay their own bills. And then they charge you to use your credit card they say it says it on the menu but nobody's really looking on the menu to see if there's extra charges for using your credit card. And when they give you your bill there's no pricing on it for what you pay for it's just a set price of what they say it's supposed to be I want to suggest going to this place the food wasn't even that good read more

Thomas M had it right in his previous review that Joes is a special place. We managed to come here twice over our thanksgiving weekend visit which should speak for itself. I know they are known for their Coney's but being a native Californian I could not quite get on board with the midwestern version of "chili" which is far more like a meat gravy. That being said, this is clearly a regional issue and thus if Coneys are your thing.. joes is definitely your place. On our second visit I opted for the corned beef on rye which was definitely more up my alley and what sort of 1/2 jew would I be if I didn't indulge in some rye toast from time to time. PSA Joes will be undergoing its second renovation so be sure to stop by for a new and improved experience next time you're in the area! read more

If you're coming to Northville, do not eat here. There are plenty of wonderful places to eat at half the price. The food is greasy and previously frozen. The staff was not very helpful. I clearly specified if the rice was plain white rice and I was told yes. It was chicken Rice-A-Roni... super salty and un appetizing. The fish was served on a plate, not in paper, so it sat in its own oil and became mushy and gross. I know this is a Coney Island, but the food was poor cafeteria quality. I've been to plenty of Coney Islands that are fresh and delicious. This is not one. If you're looking for a Coney Island, get out of Northville and go somewhere else. read more

They have tables outside to help with social distancing. Nice variety on the menu - more than I expected. Food was brought out promptly and was good. I was bothered, however, by our server's behavior. Her mask was down around her chin, not at all doing what it is designed to do. When I commented on it, she responded that she hated wearing it. Well I'm sorry about that but if that's your attitude, you probably need to get a different job. I won't go to restaurants if the servers aren't wearing masks properly. read more

Went there for lunch yesterday to Joseph's Coney Island in Northville on 3-31-2021 and it was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The waitress was very rude to us. Threw down the menu on the table and askes us what do we want, for starters a nice greeting would have been nice. The food was sub pare. She was a shorter white lady with dark hair and wore glasses. We have been there before a were impressed but after yesterday experience we won't be going back. read more

Joseph's Coney Island, in downtown Northville, is a great little place to grab a fast & cheap breakfast or lunch. The guys who work the grill are fun to watch when the place is busy, so try and grab a counter seat. I've had omelets and I've had the corned beef on rye with fries. So I cannot speak from personal experience about much else. I have never been disappointed with anything, so I have little compulsion to change my order (though I may ask for my fries to be crispy next time...I got some underwhelming ones the last time I was here). Emily often gets the pancakes or french toast and seems to like them a lot. We have both commented on how we should get a salad some day. They look pretty darn appetizing. My only quibble with this place is the coffee. It is diner coffee. I don't expect too much. But I have had some that was sitting out way too long. I won't order it again. All in all, I prefer Rebecca's, a restaurant which is just around the corner. (See my review here on Yelp). Yet, this place usually has no wait, it is fast, and it is a bit cheaper than Rebecca's. As far as Coney Islands go, Joseph's sets the standard in my book. Great breakfasts, with fresh ingredients cooked on a greasy griddle top. Lunch plates are great with offerings ranging from marinated grilled chicken pitas, to coney dogs, Gyros, and chicken tenders. They have many other offerings so I'm only listening my faves. I've been coming here for years but just recently visited with some family and it was as enjoyable and even better than I remember it being in the past !!! read more

The worst Greek salad I have ever eaten. How do ruin a Greek salad? My husband had French toast. Once again the worst French toast he ever had. The server was absent most of the time except when she brought the $30 check and than gave us $20 bill for the change. We go out for breakfast with the extended family every weekend, and we like to try new places. This was our first visit to Joseph's and everyone agreed that the food was good and the prices were great. I had the sourdough French toast. It came dipped in cinnamon sugar and was delicious. I ordered the 1/2 order (2 pieces) and it was plenty to fill me up. The coffee was decent and the waitress was quick with the refills - always important on a Saturday morning. The ambiance is about what you'd expect for a coney - decent and clean, but nothing special. The location is great; it's right in downtown Northville and we enjoyed a refreshing post-breakfast stroll. read more

When we are in town and our beloved Rebecca's is crowded, Joseph's is our second choice for breakfast. The place is spotlessly clean, is brightly lit and the service is fast and efficient. The hot breakfasts are made with fresh ingredients, which fact shines through. Key for me is the additional fact that the grill is obviously well-maintained because the eggs never have an after-taste of other grilled items. The coffee is good, hit and plentifull. The two areas as to which Joseph's could improve are its bread (the rye is not deli style but the much softer grocery-store type) and potatoes (we are not hash brown fans even when they are housemade and not previously frozen). A home fries option would be most welcome. All in all, a solid choice for breakfast. My family also reports that the Coney dogs are delicious. read more

This is our weekend breakfast haunt! First and foremost, sit in Ramona's section,...she's nice, funny, and knows what she's doing! Personally, I'm a fan of the corned beef hash ...my wife gets varied items, and is always happy. Food comes out fast, and hot. Also, their coffee is pretty tasty as well. Lunch items, ... Joseph's is an unassuming little Coney Island in downtown Northville, towards the end of Main street near the Garage restaurant. Parking is easiest on the street, but a structure is nearby. The menu reminds me of every CI in Metro Detroit. Breakfast items, sandwiches, Greek fare, fish and chips and of course coney dogs and chili grace this one, along with a section highlighting their stir-fry's. Though I have never tried them, the stir fry mention is a little unsettling for me as it seems completely out of place in this little diner/coney. Breakfast is where it is at here! Fresh eggs, large omelets and fresh hashbrowns make me happy. The coffee is of above-average quality and enjoyable, and the rye toast is seriously good. I am warming up to rye, and I have to say theirs is my favorite I have come across so far. I was told that they make their own corned beef hash fresh, which sounds like something that needs to be ordered next time. Yum. What I really like is the service here. Waitresses are on top of their game, seem to genuinely have a good time and they care about their customers. I have seen them treat (what I can only assume to be) regulars like family, which is endearing. 3.5 stars, really! Without hesitation this is a 5-star. I have been coming to Joseph's Coney Island ever since I can remember. The wait staff is super friendly and the food is to die for. You really do not appreciate coney island enough until you move out of the state and can no longer get it. For this reason, everytime I go home to visit my family I look forward to going to Joseph's for at least two meals. Breakfast and lunch. As for food items, I always get something with chili. Growing up with the Detroit style chili and then no longer having it is hard. The chili omelet is amazing. If your feeling adventurous add some sausage and a few veggies. As for lunch, I always go with two coneys. Again, I miss them dearly. The only time I deviate is if I am there on a Friday, then for sure it is either a fish sandwich or fish and chips. The fish is amazing. The owner has changed the type of fish a few times over the years and has always asked my family if we like it. No, we LOVE it. Each change has gotten better. The fish has gotten fresher and the breading lighter. This place might look small and crowded at times, but turns over extremely fast. The food comes to you no later than 20 minutes after ordering. That type of service is extraordinary. We have gotten to the point where the wait staff now knows we will want 4 ice teas when we sit down as a family and will automatically bring two to the table when my mom and I walk in. On top of the service, the prices are excellant. It is around the same price as fast food, but much better and has some healthier options than what I previously described. I have my go to menu items, but I have never had anything that is bad there. I think I can honestly say I have had everything on that menu as I have been there a few hundred times. The Connie's are as you can get anywhere. I loved the chili on the dogs , but some may think it is too spicy. The dogs have a crunch like you get at downtown National --- excellent. Tonight we had the split pea with ham soup and it was delicious, a little thin but very tasty. The cole-slaw was scrumptious with a great dressing.
