We got our food diverted by Uber Eats. It arrived on time. This places provides great food and great value. The Palomilla Bistec is a huge steak was so good. The sautéed onions really enhanced the favor. I was surprised on how late the steak was given the price of the meal. We replaced the rice and beans with plantain chips. They also provided a lot of plantain chips. The Chicken burrito was the other item ordered and it was also very good. The burrito is large and a full meal. No need for sides if you are eating this. It comes with both sour cream and guacamole. You can taste the key lime in the guacamole. It gives it a tangy yummy flavor. read more

The food was good, nothing extraordinary. For the price I would have wished they didn't skimp out on the meat for the tacos and that it was just overall more portion/taste (sides included in a 18$ meal would be nice). Whole family enjoyed it overall. We did have to keep asking the server for water, but they were pretty attentive in asking us how our food was and if we needed anything. Fabulous stop for lunch! Looks like they're moving so the decor on the inside of this location I visited (on Truman) was noticeably absent (-1 star for appearance). Hoping the new spot has a better appeal for tables, decor etc. However despite this I still give them 5 stars for the food and service! I ordered the Al Pastor tacos and they were some of the best I've had in a long time. VERY flavorful and the house made hot sauce and guacamole were even better additions. As you can see my tacos were practically swimming in cilantro and onion so I did have to take off quite a bit to eat the tacos (if only you could see how perfect the Al pastor was with its chunks of pineapple and loads of seasoning!) I'd have taken another pic if I didn't consume my tacos beforehand (oops! I was hungry and they were delicious!). The server recommended their house made Agua Fresca with tamarind and chia seeds and wow! I'm so glad I ordered it! I heard great things about the fresh passionfruit aqua fresca as well... I can't wait to come back and check them out at their new location when I visit key west and try other menu items. read more

I saw this restaurant on one of our trolley tours. I strongly recommend it. Great atmosphere, great staff, great service and the food was amazing. Try the fry cheese. If you like cheese, you'll love the fried cheese. I had the churrasco steak and my wife had the pork ribs. Two huge ribs and she couldn't finish her plate. Came here because it was close to our hotel and I was craving Latin food. This was mostly Nicaraguan food with a mix of the other Latin foods. Tasted just like when I went to Nicaragua and like a Nicaraguan restaurant we have in my hometown of Galveston. I recently lost a dear Nicaraguan friend so coming here felt good and reminded me of him. Food was hot and piping and a very generous. We had enough for lunch the next day. We called here the day before we went, asked what kind of fish is used in the fish sandwich. They said yellow tail snapper. Very good. Next day we got there for an early supper, 5:30 or so. They gave us menus with no prices. I asked if the prices on their website were current. No. So then they gave us a menu with prices pencilled in. We asked again about the fish in the fish sandwich. Tilapia. That is not a fish I eat. We ordered 2 sangria's. She came back and said here is one. I said that's nice but we wanted 2. "Well here is one, it's what we have". So I ordered a beer and guacamole. Guac was heavily limed, too much. Chips I think were from a bag. Now one good thing, the salsa was just excellent. 5 stars for the salsa! read more

Complete surprise when we found this place. Believe it or not we had to find medical equipment and then decided to have breakfast. This place was across the street and so we decided to try it. The restaurant is a nice sit down or take out spot with quick and professional service. The chips tasted like they were made in-house. I ordered lengua (tongue) tacos and my boyfriend ordered carne asada. His carne asada was so flavorful! Great pepper flavor, and when paired with their in-house sauce, a symphony of spice and savory. My lengua was perfectly tender, with the right amount of spices and so pleasantly tasty that I was left craving more. I suggest at some point, you stop by Jose's, you're going to love it! read more

Amazing Nicaraguan food, true Nicoya sazon! We ordered the gallo pinto, steamed yucca, maduros, and tostones. It was all phenomenal. I love that the tostones came with a salsa fresca. Some of the best food I've had in Key West. Had a variety of tacos at lunch. Carnitas and barbacoa were juicy and flavorful. Salsa is fresh. Breakfast burrito with chorizo and similar breakfast tacos are some of the best I've had. Service is friendly. Only reason I'm giving less than five stars is due to the bullshit charge for a tiny styrofoam container for my leftovers. If it's a carry out order that's one thing. If I can't finish my food I either have to abandon the leftovers or carry them home in my hand or pay more for food I've already partially eaten? Bad end to an otherwise wonderful experience. Still recommend it but bring your own bag and Tupperware. Oh, and paying cash avoids a credit card fee - but that's getting pretty common everywhere. read more

Jose's is a great off the beaten path place for Latin cuisine. The Horchata and Tamarindo is delicious. The first chips and salsa is on the house. :) The Carne Asada tacos were legit! Not too bad on price either. Place is clean and bright in a cool older house. Definitely a great place to check out if you're craving some Latin food. This was a go to for us until the recent debacle. I have a sensitivity to eating foods containing onion and garlic (makes me sick, not just a flavor preference). It is very difficult to eat out, but I'm happy to get whatever a place can prepare. I've successfully eaten here several times before. I wanted to try something different, so I specifically asked if they could prepare the Pollo a la Mexicana without onions and garlic. I was surprised when they said they could but excited to see what they did with it. It was even typed in on the order instructions. We had some friends over to celebrate my birthday and ordered takeout. After picking up our food and coming home, I found that I had received steak not chicken. Called in and they were super nice, apologizing for the error. I went back to get my food and took it home. Opened it up and there were large chunks of onion everywhere. Ummm.... at this point I've been trying to get food for over an hour and my friends are sitting around feeling guilty. I was so surprised to see steak that I missed the onions in the first order, but they were there too. I called again. They argued a little before putting not me on hold. When they came back on the line they told me there is onion in the sauce and they can't prepare it without.... why did they tell me yes AND enter it on the order? Oh well, I asked if I could just get something else and they said, No. The kitchen is closed. Ok, this sucks, ok can you just refund me my money then. Also, No. I was told could call in three days and talk to the manager. Wow. Everyone else has finished eating at this point (their food was good) and I'm still trying to figure something out..... A couple days later we went in to talk to the manager, and she told us they had tried and there was nothing more they could do. (make something different or offer a refund?) And that's it. My fiancé was a big fan, but he was so upset with how everything was handled and how dismissive they were that he said he doesn't want to go back. read more

Thai place is good but expen$ive. Got the Chicken and Barbados Tacos. They were very good but $15 for each order (3 tacos) seems crazy.... Extreemly happy I stopped by Jose's. The restaurant is located on the busy Truman street however, there is parking in the rear ;) Decor: The restaurant feels like a family kitchen. There are bright colors all around and paintings of all sorts hanging from the walls. Eats: I created my own dish as there is not a listed veggie option on the menu. I had the Nicaraguan rice and beans, plantains, veggie medley (onions, peppers, mushrooms) and yuca (cassava). The rice and beans were phenomenal! I highly recommend this side, the plantains are excellent as well as the veggie medley. I also had a passion fruit juice that was sweet and tart perfection. I highly recommend Jose's and look forward to grabbing a bite here on my next Key West visit. read more

A hidden gem! We were driving around looking for tacos and thought we would try this place. So glad we did! Chips and salsa were complimentary. We ordered the carne asada tacos which were served with onion, cilantro, lime and guacamole and hot sauce on the side. These tacos had so much flavor, and the hot sauce just enhanced it even more! We also ordered a side of fried yuca as well as the tres leches for dessert. We could not believe how delicious the tres leches was! Tasted so fresh and homemade. Jose's Latin Food has been renamed to Jose's Nicaraguan Restaurant. This place is a little hidden because it is located next door to the local strip joint, but the food is tremendous and packed with traditional flavors that leave you wanting more. I had the Churrasco (skirt steak) and it was very good and seasoned perfectly with a Chimmichuri sauce that was well made. I ordered the huevos rancheros which were amazing!!! We sat and drank our cafe au lait while we waited for our food. The ranchero sauce, tortillas and beans were all homemade and so delicioso I should have taken a picture but I ate it right away. Definitely will return for more yummy food. read more

This place was a bit of a trek to get to, but DEFINITELY worth the visit. Boasting delicious authentic Nicaraguan cuisine, this place delivered in a big way. Kind wait staff welcomed our group of 12 into the small space and helped to rearrange the tables to accommodate our group as much as possible. Bottled beer options are lined up in the window and there is wine available also. Admittedly I was hoping for a margarita on this Cinco de Mayo but Modelo Nigra worked just fine. Though it was not on the menu, a flavorful shrimp quesadilla was kindly prepared upon my request. One of my friends tried a smothered chicken platter, and while moist with perfect grill marks, the rice and beans were even better. I heard that the barbacoa tacos were out of this world, but you know I don't eat red meat so that'll remain a rumor. Another friend got a block of fried cheese as appetizer that disappeared before it made it to my end of the table. Mad props to the delicious citrusy salsa also! They were also kind enough to allow us all to pay separately at the register. This food is delicious. Go there, don't let the less appealing location off the beaten path deter you! read more

I had ridden by there many times and kept telling myself I needed to stop in and try it. Last night I decided to stop in. I was not disappointed! Food was amazing! Cool laid back atmosphere in an old building. I had chicken fajitas and the serving size was big enough I had leftovers to take home. Staff was friendly but they were a bit understaffed but not so much it was a problem, but hey, it's Key West, everywhere is understaffed! I will definitely make this a regular place to eat read more

I went here on a whim after being in a store close by. I'm from CA so I can appreciate some good Latin food but sadly this did not meet my expectations. Food aside, the menu was difficult to use (not many dishes had explanations so it was a gamble of what you were actually ordering). Our server was nice but there was another woman there who every time I looked up, she was staring at me until I finally I started staring back. The portions were decent but given I dont eat meat, my options were limited. And given the poor layout of the menu, I found it hard to even know what I was getting would be meatless (turns out it wasnt). And it had hair in it. I took about 3 bites and done. If you want decent Latin food, stick to Amigos and Lupita's. Especially if you have diet restrictions. This place isnt worth your time. read more
