I was driving through the state and got a flat tire. I dropped in Jose's while my car was in the shop and it was great! The owner was very accomodating and the staff was friendly and quick. Daira gave me great service and told me a little history of the establishment. Do not follow directions on Yelp. They will take you to a location he moved out of over 4 years ago. They are next to Walmart which is just North of the old location on the West side of the road. Had soft tacos and chili rellenos. Both were excellent. Large portions and great taste. Excellent Service! But don't go in looking for an el grande margarita. They serve no alcohol. We were passing through Magee and found Jose's on a Monday night. Food was absolutely delicious, and while my husband and daughter love Mexican food, I am not particularly a fan, but TONIGHT I WAS! Atmosphere clean, welcoming, and friendly. Food was to die for. Now I must warn you ahead of time, this restaurant does not serve alcohol. I was thoroughly impressed. Very clean and neat location. It was packed when we showed up but they managed to get us in really quick and get us served. My wife had nothing but great things to say which is impressive because she is "compliant central". My wife had the street tacos and I had the fajitas. The little one was pleased as well! The chips were home made unlike other places that have Pre cooked or bagged chips. All the ingredients were fresh on all of our plates and it really showed. Normally Tex mex tears my stomach up and causes issues but it was a "good evening" as far as that is concerned which is a one in a million thing with me. Good job Jose's! read more

Food was ... edible. Of the 2 choices for Mexican in Magee, Fernando's is better. I have no idea how this place has a 5 star rating. I ordered a half dozen tamales, and they came covered in canned chili. The server was the most obnoxious part of the experience. My wife asked which he considered the better of 2 different dishes. He looked annoyed for a second and then said with no expression, "They're both good." With no help from the server, my wife placed her order and he walked away. He then quickly came back to the table and suggested that she order both dishes. We though he was kidding, so we laughed. He looked at us with a straight face and said, "Just get both and eat one for lunch tomorrow." We politely declined and he scurried off again. We had to decline his offer for dessert 3 times before he would give us our check, and he was visibly upset. I've never had such a pushy server, especially one with a $h1tty attitude. read more

This is a great Mexican restaurant. I had the fajita tacos and they were delicious. Plenty of veggies, fresh grilled chicken and just the right amount of cheese. I am in Magee on business, and the hotel recommended Jose's. It was fantastic. I had the veggie quesadilla, and my colleague had the spinach and mushroom quesadilla. Both are great. Guacamole is tasty. Best of all, we got to chat with Jose, the Jose, who has run the business for 16 years. One word of caution- Magee is a dry town. We found out the hard way when we ordered margaritas and the waiter laughed. LOL! But your sweet tea will be served in a pitcher with a straw, and that was almost fun enough to make up for the lack of tequila. Enjoy! read more

This is the BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT EVER!!!! A GREAT PLACE TO TAKE THE WHOLE FAMILY!! This was my first visit to Jose's, and it will not be my last!! My friend insisted we have our late lunch there. She had discovered Jose's with another friend a few weeks earlier on a return trip to the Delta after a medical appointment. They arrived at the tail end of a Friday lunch rush...the place was hopping with activity. After a few minutes the rush died down and they could hear the music playing in the dining area...it was contemporary Christian praise music! The Holy Spirit is present in this restaurant and those it employs and serves!! Another plus about Jose's is...NO BAR!!! If it's true authentic Mexican cuisine you are looking for, then Jose's Restaurant and Grill in Magee, MS is the place to go!! Take a good appetite as portions are plentiful, the vegetables and meats are fresh, and the salsa is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Be sure to save room for dessert!!! You will not be disappointed!! In the Mexican genre, Jose's is as good as it gets! It is no wonder that they are packed for lunch with a line running out the door. Great, amazing food is worth waiting for! The Salsa was the best salsa I have EVER had at an Mexican restaurant. Packed with flavor but not so spicy as my taste buds burnt off. I thought about just drinking the salsa.. but my mother taught me better manners than that. And the chips... they were HOT and FRESH out of the fryer AND they sprinkled seasonings on them, which made the chips the sort that you KNOW you need to stop eating them so you have room for your meal, but somehow that last chip and salsa bite just multiplies... and 3 or 4 last bites later, you are still aiming for that last bite.... I had the fish tacos. Tilapia with fresh mango salsa. It had a wonderful tang that just lingered on your taste buds. AND it came with 2 quarter portions of a lime - so you could squeeze that fresh lime juice on the fish tacos and make it come alive. The red rice... ok on its own, but add a bit of that amazing salsa to it, and there was not a grain of rice left on my plate. And I loved the re-fried beans - which at most restaurants, I usually take a bite, and leave the rest on my plate. But here at Joses, I also ate every last little bit of it. I thought they were very tasty with lots of flavor. But on the other side of the coin, my hubby - who usually loves re-fried beans, wasn't as impressed as I was. He said they were ok, but nothing outstanding. But my hubby was impressed with his shredded beef chimmichunga. All meat! Real Meat! Tender Meat! He gave me a bite... and I was wishing that we had a Jose's like this one in our town. Because a woman can only eat so much before she is miserable.. and I was enjoying the food so much that a couple hours of misery from over eating is a small price to pay. So ambiance - It is a very tastefully done atmosphere, in wood tones and golden yellow. Nothing glaring in multiple colors like some Mexican places, but simple and pretty. My hubby said the men's restroom was clean, and the woman's restroom was clean too. However, the contractor that built Jose's skimped corners in the bathroom. The metal stall, the doors were on backwards, so that the door opened up into the stall, instead swinging out into the room. And the contractor didn't prime the metal on the stall before he painted it, so that the paint had peeled off with time. The staff at Jose's keep the paint peeled off, so it isn't falling down everywhere, but it is an eyesore. BUT on that line, Jose is building himself a new store right down the street next to the Walmart, so that problem won't be a problem in the new building. (And hopefully the contractors will do it right for him this time.) While we were paying at the door, ready to leave, we got the opportunity to meet Jose himself. That man was running at full speed the entire time we were there, making sure everything was running smooth in a very full restaurant that was on a wait for a Wednesday lunch! He was very well spoken, and we were impressed. I wish Jose all the luck in the world, with best wishes for his new store near the Walmart! If we ever pass that way again, we WILL be going back! read more

Okay, I'm from Texas so Mexican food is hard to impress me with but this place is good. The chips are good. They have a seasoning on them (chili powder?) but they are delish. The salsa isn't as spicy as I like but the taste is really good. I had the crispy tacos and they were meaty and delicious. I really like the beans and rice. My wife had the cheese enchiladas and a side salad and enjoyed her meal as well. I don't make it to Magee often but this place should always be on my list. The first time I went there I was not pleased and gave a poor review but last weekend after my sons football game he wanted Fernandos and when I called they said they were going to wait to see if anyone from the game came but they didnt so they were closing and wouldnt wait on us although the open sign was on but the door was locked. So my son asked me to take him to Jose's to see if they were open. They said they would stay open as long as they needed to accommodate their customers after the football game which was great. We ordered our food and it was out within a few minutes and the owner was actually nice this time I went. He made sure we had refills. I dont know why the food was better this time around or why the service was so much better but Im glad I gave them another chance at my business read more
