Jose's Tacos is a welcome addition to Eastern Market. I got a combination plate and my boyfriend got a burrito, so we tried a little bit of everything. I would definitely say the tacos are the best item on the menu (tamale second), well-rounded bites of balanced flavors and textures. Everything else was so-so, but this place is just around the corner, the tacos were great, and the atmosphere was, too, so it is an easy, regular choice for us. Make sure to try one of their infused drinks at the front (I had hibiscus) for something different and unique to Jose's. Laura was our waitress and her customer service was superb! Gave us samples of fresh fruit waters and went thoroughly through the menu. The sauces(green and red salsa)were watery. This place is how Mexican should taste. Rich in flavors, not everything spicy hot where you can't eat. I've had the enchilada, quesadilla, chips and salsa, street corn, and wet burrito. It's all delicious!! It's a tiny place, not a lot of seating, but staff is nice, food is made fresh and it's just sooooooo good. You have to place your own order, but you can have a seat and they will bring it out to you. Very good. They make their own drinks as well as having various sodas like both Coke and Pepsi in cans along with bottled water. I like the fact they use seasonings that produce great flavors. The beans and rice that make up the dinner are typical, but everything else is fantastic. The street corn was worth the wait. read more

Pulled into a receiver in the area. Never been to Detroit but now I'm glad I did. We decided to walk down the urban side streets in search of lunch. We always say yes to tacos so when we spotted the restaurant we said yes. I haven't had chorizo in years sonon a whim I ordered steak and chorizo tacos. Oh I was in heaven. I've always eaten at the smaller Jose's downtown but we stopped in today on a whim. It's slightly larger than the downtown location and cheerful. Brenda was our server and she was very helpful. The problem is the food. The guacamole they served us was brown. The chips were stale. And the tacos were meh. I think it's just that the quality of the ingredients wasn't great. The chicken pieces were small and dry. The flavors were bland. We tried the grilled chicken, the shredded chicken, the potato and the chorizo.The shining star was the chorizo taco which was a stand out because it was decent--a three star taco in the midst of one and twos. Everyone knows the restaurants that have been in the Eastern Market district for years but Jose's tacos is new! On a Monday night it's pretty quiet in the district but Jose's was open so we checked it out. It's the cutest little taco joint. Had the fajitas which were delicious and plentiful for two of us. They serve the traditional fare plus Mexican sodas and juice drinks. Will definitely be back for more. read more

It's a good lunch place. I've been here a few times and I liked the food. I've had the tacos both soft and fried which were good. And each time they I ordered them with rice and beans. Another time I tried a chicken burrito and a chicken quesadilla. My Mom said the quesadilla was not large enough but she liked it. My burrito was good and filling. My only complaint was the serving of beans and rice was not enough. But overall I liked the place and I'll be back. read more
