Stopped in for a quick lunch and was really impressed. I had the California burrito with shredded chicken, which comes with beans and rice. It's massive, more than enough for a lunch portion, with flavorful and fresh ingredients. Despite showing up at 12:30 p.m. on a weekday, when it seemed they were dealing with a lot of lunch orders, my burrito was made in only a few minutes. A big downside is that the inside of Jose's Tacos is pretty cramped. If, like me, you're waiting for take-out, there's not a ton of space to wait. And there aren't that many tables for dining in, so during the weekday lunch rush, you might have a big wait. read more

I want to give this place a 3.75 but again Yelp isn't hip with the times. This place is a hidden gem in Detroit. Locally owned and family ran, you see the same people each time you come in and it's great. The meat for the tacos is one of the most flavorful I've had in Michigan. They are cubed and juicy, it just isn't super consistent and they are $3 per taco, which is up there compared to other places I've been to. I've had the best tacos in my life here and decided to bring friends from out of state and they were a total flop. They're never bad, but I've had some mediocre tacos here as well as amazing. I always get flour tortilla cause corn isn't my favorite but I can attest that getting the corn tortillas here is way better than the flour. Every time I get flour here it isn't as good as my sisters corn tacos. We always get the carne asada with cilantro and onions. I love their sauces here, the verde sauce is to die for. I won't lie, I usual don't post, but Jose's is worth my time, all the time. The people and service are amazing, but the food is even better. Yes, every time I have set foot in Jose's, I am greeted with a big fat smile and it's wonderful, but the big plus is the food. Simply put, it's just plain great!! Detroit is getting more safe than in years past so DON'T be afraid to get out to Detroit and have some good ole Mexican food served up by people who know how to serve it. Best place in the city for Mexican food! I go here every Thursday. Literally every Thursday... I get the Burrito Supreme. A wet burrito stuffed with chicken, steak, rice, re-fried beans, lettuce, and sour cream and served with a side of the-fried beans and rice. I look forward to coming here for my weekly visit and Burrito Supreme! Paris and Laura are great and throw my order in once they see me walk in. Which is super nice since I probably order the one item that takes the longer to make. read more

It is refreshing to find an authentic Mexican cuisine in the city. Tex-mex is alright, but severely lacking. This is a little hole in the wall place that has stolen my heart. Food is excellent. Saw this place on my drive home one day last year and had to try it. Have been going ever since. There's only one other Mexican place that's by Campus Martius but it doesn't hold a candle to Jose's. Food speaks for itself. Of course they have to have crunchy shells and ground beef to satisfy American tastes but the rest of the menu is as authentic as it gets. I myself am partial to Carne Asada and Al Pastor on traditional corn tortillas with cebollas and cilantro. Add grilled onions and house made hot sauce or salsa verde and you're golden. It's still new but with the time it's been around there is a huge following now. It's nice to now go there and see it being packed with maybe a couple tables to sit at. Always a good sign. I love this place. Their food is authentic and their carry out is timely. They always have fresh pico de gallo and hot food. I particularly enjoy their steak tacos as I eat simple proteins. I really want to give them 5 stars because the food is great here. This was my 2nd time back there this week, both times the food was amazing but the customer service sucks. I dined in both times and the service did not change. They are not very attentive to the dine-in customers. Once you receive your food you can forget about them ever coming back to check on you. They brought me one napkin with tacos, smh, I asked for extra napkins when my food was brought out and the server never came back. I had to go to the register and get them myself.
