Ok wow, where do I start. I put together a nice stereo system a couple years ago for my 06 Xterra. Nice matched Pioneer amps, sub and stereo with wireless carplay and speakers and a Clarion EQ. Had my old "go to" shop do the install and it sounded great. Fast forward about 6 months and I was starting to get some engine whine, so I stopped into my old shop and he immediately stated I needed to "pull the EQ.....they all do that." I reminded him that I'd had the same EQ in two other builds and that I REALLY like having it. I always mount them right by my right knee and like having quick access to the bass and volume knobs so I can tailor the bass to each song and I can turn it up and down super fast. I'd read on Amazon that others were complaining about engine noise as well but saw where one guy stated that it's all about it being properly grounded. Well he was adamant it was the EQ, So armed with that review info I figured I'd just go to another shop and have it 're-installed'. Well, time flies and about 6 months later I walked into another shop (Bristol Sound in Santa Ana).....and made an appt to come in the next morning at 10am. I showed and finally left at 11:30 as their installer STILL hadn't shown up. F'that. Of course by now I've bought a car and the Xterra is relegated to just driving occasionally...so months go by again before I finally made it over to another shop I'd seen while driving around. (Car Stereo Warehouse on La Palma in Anaheim) I dropped it off and when I went to pick it up they claimed that one amp was blown and also a speaker. And that the Pioneer amp was no longer available. Total quote to "Rewire the whole system and swap out to another amp (cheap chicom brand I'd never even heard of) and speaker"? $900 Yeah, let me think about that. No. So as I left 5 out of 6 speakers aren't working. WTF? I have the guy come back out and he starts telling me how the RCA's are broken cause they're cheap bla bla bla At this point I was just done. Paid then the $100 charge for "diagnosis" and left. Go on amazon the next day and wouldn't you know it .....plenty of Pioneer replacement amps available. I hate liars. So.....a couple months later.....(last week) I think, ok, I had a good experience years ago with a mobile installer....maybe that's what i need. So I jump on craigslist and I found Joslin Mobile Marine. They linked over to their yelp reviews and ....looks good. So I reach out via text. Russ responds and we go back and forth and he states I'm probably looking at about $200. That sounds more than reasonable to me so we set it up. He came to my shop....was on time and had his guy with him. Both are super nice and I felt pretty confident it was gonna be a good thing. I also asked that "while they're in there" can they look at another issue I'm having with an aftermarket engine tuner monitor that no longer power on. No problem they said. So a couple hours later they wrap it up. My stereo sounds GREAT.....NO more engine noise....and my monitor works. I did NOT have a blown amp or speaker and when I asked how much? He says just what we agreed to. Needless to say I was impressed and threw in something extra. What a great resource to have and I've already lined up friend who's gonna call and use them. The stereo on my BBQ island blew out a few months back and I finally decided to give in and see what it would take to get it fixed. I called Russ on a Wednesday morning and even though he was working in the OC for most of the day, he made it all the way out to Riverside to see what was wrong with the unit. Russ checked it out and unfortunately, the stereo was blown and I needed a new one. He tested the old unit in front of me and talked me through everything that he was doing (a HUGE help). I went ahead and had him bring back a new stereo the very next day and he quickly got it installed and it sounds AWESOME!! So much better than the piece of garbage I had before...
