Located on a quaint Main Street of Annapolis towards the end is this very cool and hip Sushi Bar that is not only innovative with its menu, but with its indoors, as well. If you are looking for fresh and creative sushi and drinks, then Joss Cafe is the place for you. Ambience: Not too small and not big enough to sit a family or for you to come and sit on your own. As soon as you walk in they announce a Japanese welcome phrase that makes you smile. They inquire about how many people you have in your party and ask if you want to be seated. I chose a window seat so that I can work and eat while people watching. The seat at the window bar is large enough to fit a laptop and seat five people. There are menus for both food and drinks on your table or the bar and the staff come often to share what it on the menu and recommendations for your experience. You are not overwhelmed with staff hovering, yet if you request their assistance they are available. The table tops seat 4-6 and they are far enough apart that you do not feel like you are sitting directly next to a person. The sushi bar is traditional in the fact that you can see your sushi or sashimi being made to order. Food: Wow! I have a new place to not only work, enjoy your friends but experience great sushi. It is hard to find fresh and authentic sushi. So when I find a place I remain a loyal customer. I had edamame which had salt flakes and you get a large portion in a hold/discard black dish. The dishes are a cool black that mirror the design and aesthetics of the Japanese flair. I had a summer special recommended by my waiter, Chris (shoutout super cool and very knowledgeable) which was a watermelon mojito. I am not a big mojito fan due to the mint, yet Chris's recommendation was great because the drink reminded me of Miami (known for their mojitos). The drink was not overwhelming with the watermelon and because Chris was aware that I didn't care for mint, they made the drink with less and it was truly phenomenal!!! I also had deep fried pork goyza which was amazing. It was crunchy on the outside and the pork and veggies on the inside were very flavorful. They serve it with a hot sauce/vinigar mix which was amazing and a great condiment. The Redskin sushi role was one of the best roles I have had and that is full truth! It had super fresh tuna on the top with a spicy sauce and crunch. The rice and seaweed was fresh and the presentation was beyond innovative serving it on a wooden small table. Overall: If you love sushi, a vibe, great service, knowledgeable staff and great innovative drinks then you MUST go to Joss Cafe & Sushi Bar. Prices are great and the food is greater. Really true review and no filter. 10/10 in Maryland.

Reasonably priced! Great place if you are looking for rolls. They also have non sushi options on the menu! Place gets kinda busy so service can be a little slow but it's all around a great experience!

Sushi, especially the sashimi, is amazing. My family comes here often and is our favorite sushi in Annapolis. Very unassuming location, it looks small from the outside but is quite large once you enter. They also have an outdoor space. Unfortunately you have to enter inside before going to the outside space so it's not dog-friendly. Service is great and would recommend!

Absolute best maki I've ever had hands down We came for lunch and got the (2) salmon avocado rolls, (2) salmon maki, and (1) salmon nigiri. I kept thinking we were going to spend way too much on sushi but it was so cheap! The salmon maki was the best maki I've ever had. It was slightly salty which really brought out the flavor. I will 100% come here again next time I'm in Annapolis.

The sushi is very good. Nigiri is tough to beat. Thick big pieces. The Rolls were very good also. Love the ambiance. Lighting was perfect and tables spread out so they're not too close. Servers are nice, helpful, and very attentive. Thank you for a great meal.

Favorite sushi spot in Maryland! The sushi rice is consistently perfect and the fish is always fresh. The "creamy spicy" (spicy mayo) sauce is so iconic they sell it bottled. Faves are the crunchy ebi, tuna avocado, unagi, toro, and Saki (I ask for it torched).

This had a Crab & Roe, Crunchy Ebi and I don't remember what the other two were.

I absolutely love this spot! Great sushi, reasonable prices and calming atmosphere. Servers are great here, but always love getting Matt.

This sushi was so fresh and had such a wide variety at an affordable price. While we did have to wait awhile since they don't take reservations, the service was quick. The actual restaurant is in a great location in downtown Annapolis and the restaurant decor and vibe is great.

UPDATE 6/8/2024 I received an email from management letting me know they have spoken to BOTH servers involved in this situation. I'm still appalled that these servers felt so entitled to message and harass someone just because she didn't realize her tip from my friend was on MY check. If the staff from Joss feel they aren't being paid "a living wage" perhaps Joss should either look into paying their staff more, or these servers should look for work elsewhere. Nevertheless, I'm truly thankful that Joss took this situation seriously, and handled it appropriately.

Went here last night with my cousins, mom and husband for late dinner but got seated right away (around 845pm). Yes it's a bit pricey but we got what we paid for. 100% satisfied and will be returning! Our server was great, attentive and thoughtful, making sure we always had what we needed without being prompted. We ordered a variety of nigiri, one roll, tonkatsu shoyu ramen. My cousins got tempura and the tofu and my mom got the Chilean salad. Drink orders included: Diet Coke, green tea, glass of sauv blanc wine and 2 edo old fashioneds. Food didn't take too long to come out and the food was finished quick! The fish:rice ratio was perfect and the fish cuts and taste were magnificent. Our sushi craving has been fulfilled. My cousins and mom had eaten there before and recommended it. My mom loved the salad so much the first time that she ordered it again. The ramen was a little salty for my taste but still tasty and edible. This restaurant is good for couples or crowds, lots of seating at the bar and restaurant. Happy to find a good sushi spot in Annapolis! If you're willing to pay, it's worth it!

I usually approach suburban sushi joints with a bit of trepidation, but tbh, I had an excellent experience here. Located in a cookie-cutter strip mall, the place was PACKED on a Friday night. The interior could also be described as "any Asian restaurant in America" with tile flooring, dark hardwood furniture, a large sushi bar, and generic art pieces on the wall. We started with an appetizer of Edamame and small bottles of hot sake. The soybeans were steamed in their pods and lightly salted and had that addictive quality which paired well with the slightly sweet and acidic flavor profile of sake. Sushi plate arrived about 10 minutes later, and again for suburb sushi, I was pleasantly surprised. Standouts included: * spider roll - Deep fried soft shell crab is a standard bearer and is a reflection of the sushi chefs skills. Crab had a light batter and wasn't overly oily. * Spicy scallop - Anytime a place advertises a dish as being spicy, my default is it will be "American level spicy." The scallops tasted fresh and didn't have any slimy texture (unlike at some places). Cucumber and tempura bits added a nice crunch; spicy mayo was more sweet than adding any heat. * Wicked Tuna Roll - Actually, quite good. Inside the roll contained spicy tuna, cukes, onions; which was then topped with cuts of tuna and a jalpeno "salsa." All of the contrasting flavors complemented each other. Service was as expected. Wait staff arrived within 3 minutes of initial seating, kept water glasses filled, and frequently stopped by to check on us. If you're out in Edgewater or the Annapolis area and are seeking good sushi, bookmark Nova.

We got a plethora of rolls across the table and most things were so good. There were a couple of rolls that were not my favorite and the miso soup was overly salty, but those two things were literally the only downsides of my entire experience. Verdict: if you're in Annapolis definitely give Tsunami a try!

Let me put this out here now. The 2 stars is for FOOD and id give 4 stars for CUSTOMER SERVICE if I could. Based on photos on reviews people praised the sushi rolls etc but my group wanted a variety of everything because well we dined with kids. Their menu consists of sushi, Thai food, Chinese food etc ... we ordered a plethora of food . shrimp tempura, chicken and vegetable tempura, kids steak.. sizzling beef w rice... sushi entree.. miso soups and tom yum soup and pad Thai. THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD! we've dined at many sushi restaurants, Thai food places ,Chinese restaurants.. we KNOW what things should taste like and this was NOT it at all. The sizzling rice beef only good thing about it was the presentation. The sizzle and smoke show when it arrived. This dish was made with such a generic bland sauce with wierd textured beef. It was EDIBLE.. But thats all I can say. Pad thai.. my my my .. This was the most soupy orange colored looking dish with over cooked noodles. Tasted NOTHING like pad thai.. please remove this off the menu. The shrimp tempura.. tell me why on your menu you described this as lightly battered shrimp etc etc like it was hand made and dipped by you in in tempura flakes? not only did this dish come out wayyyy too fast after ordering that we KNEW once we got the shrimp tempura that this place wasnt going to be good. The shrimp tempura was clearly frozen and the horrible coating that you usually get with frozen shrimp tempura from the store was thick and shrimp was skinny and inedible. idk if this was microwaved but i doubt they even fried it since it literally came out in 5 min after ordering. Costco shrimp tempura in the freezer section would of been way better than this. My kids barely touched this dish and they LOVE shrimp tempura so much. Please change the description on your menu. It makes it seem like you would be dipping and coating your own shrimp tempura when in fact this is frozen and coated in a thick bread batter not in a nice light tempura flakes batter.. the sushi! OMG.. The sushi Entree was horrible. The fish looked like play dough .. i felt bad for my husband .. the sushi was not fresh idk where they get their fish from but the sushi looked as if it was "Play sushi " the colors were off.. My husband said there was something off about the taste and we could see it. We've dined at many sushi restaurants from high end to $ sushi restaurants.. We've even had sushi in Korea,& Japan.. the texture, the look of the fish pieces this was inedible and not sushi. Would not recommend. Tom yum soup.. very orange.. very concentrated needed more water and the shrimp were diced in small pieces. Maybe used 2-3 shrimp and this cost $7. There was only a sour taste and no spice to it at all. Don't recommend if you know me I HATE wasting money on bad food. The reviews definitely tricked us into coming here. The only thing I felt like was a 7/10 was the sushi rolls which had spicy tuna , shrimp tempura, and all the sauces on top from eel sauce and spicy mayo. That was the only dish I felt like tasted fine. The Chinese, Thai and sushi dishes were not good and this place is crossed off my list of restaurants. It sucked knowing once we got our first dish I just knew the dishes coming after the shrimp weren't going to be good and my entire group agreed.. so disappointing. Almost $80 down the drain for my family and i. if you're going to have a variety of different cuisines on your menu please perfect them. Otherwise focus on ONE because non of the dishes tasted good. or authentic to how it should've tasted or been made!. 0 stars if I could. SMH . we left 1 hour before closing no other customers in the restaurant after we arrived around 830pm They were counting the registers by 9pm. They close at 1030pm. That should tell you something..
