She prefers to dress like a male, and clearly this bothered the staff there, as they chose to appear too busy folding clothes to make the store any money. The older woman with the accent asked if she could help us, and I said "we're looking for slacks, a shirt and vest for my daughter for her prom". She asked what size slacks, I responded 28", and she informed me that they start at size 30". I followed up with, "what about a shirt and vest?", she replied "for who?, I said "for me", she said, "what size are you?", and I repeated to her that we were there to shop my daughter, who was standing next to me feeling awkward enough as is. The sad thing is, we were at the Boston Pride parade the day before, and my daughter felt so good about herself, then the following day, this clothes folder takes it upon herself to make the conversation as difficult as possible to not assist my child. After we looked through the call-center-special clothes for another minute or so, we realize that we were definitely in the wrong place for what we were in search of. A man with a measuring tape comes out from the back, speaks to the woman that couldn't assist us, then asks what he can help us with. I told HIM, "I'm looking to have my daughter dressed for the prom" he responds with a laugh, "they still have those?".. good one, Don Wrinkles.. I went to the store because for some reason I thought "Jos A" was Joseph Abboud, who is a classy man that goes to the same gym as me. I asked the comedian with the frumpy clothes if Joseph Abboud owned the store and he said they didn't, so we left, as we were clearly in the wrong place. We went to Macy's across the street, found my daughter a nice black Calvin Klein suit and she is ready for her semi! I will never return to Jos A Bank again, and am tempted to go beyond this post in spreading the word of how they judged/treated my child.

For my shopping "tastes", this store is just too vast and overwhelming. It is a sea of merchandise. Well organized yes but just way too much stuff to take in. Despite all the "stuff" I didn't see bargains of any note...in fact...and this could just be me ...but I was astonished to see Nike women's sweatpants for $110.00. That seems like a lot of dough to lay out for sweatpants. I'd skip the name brand and the Nike logo and look for another deal. Better yet, don't wear sweatpants unless you're in the gym or running outside on a cold day as I am not sure who they are flattering on and I am so over seeing people running around everywhere in ill-fitting sloppy looking gym-wear. But for the gym-goers, and exercisers of all kinds, you will find all manner of clothing and equipment here...a fairly comprehensive seeming selection whatever your sport of choice might be. They also sell, t-shirts, specialized sports' shoes, lots of coolers and water bottles including the in my opinion ridiculous looking and now viral Stanley water bottles that everyone seems to be lugging around...tons of those! (I just read that in California there is a class action suit pending on these Stanley water bottles as the company has acknowledged the sealing material used for its vacuum insulation contains lead). I didn't see many staff throughout the store. The staff I did see seemed to be congregating up front so if I had had a question there would have been no one to ask without traipsing back up to the front where the registers are. And in a store as large as this, that's a pain. There are so many other places to get most of the things sold here but with better service and for me, with a more manageable store footprint and experience. If I'm not going to get a bargain, I'd rather spend my money at a smaller store with attentive service. Tom didn't find the neck gator he was looking for so we left without purchasing anything but for me, I can't imagine why I'd return.

Some years ago I would periodically pop into this store but with rare exception would leave empty…read morehanded. The color palette seemed to rely heavily on pastels which are not colors I typically wear. So J. Jill for the most part fell off my radar. Fast forward to several months ago when I decided to go back in for a look around. I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of adorable things many of which were in colors I do like and wear. On that one visit I was able to select quite a number of pieces that have since become staples in my daily wardrobe. The quality of the merchandise is good and the sizing and fit are on point and for me have not needed altering. One of my favorite of these recent pieces is a pencil skirt that I liked so much I returned to buy it in another color. Paired, as one example, with one of the tunics that J. Jill is known for, makes for a comfortable yet stylish outfit for work. Many of the items can be dressed up or down and I appreciate this convenience and versatility. The sales help at this Hingham store is phenomenal....I've met some wonderful saleswomen here who have gone out of their way to be helpful and kind. Prices are reasonable with 5% off your bill when using the J. Jill credit card and 10% off during your entire birthday month. I get loads of email offers too with hard too resist deals. J. There were some nicely dressed people in the store trying on shoes who were clearly very wealthy. Meanwhile I looked like a bum. The saleslady was really nice though. After a few minutes, she came over and offered to help me find my size. I told her what I was looking for and she helped me find the right shoes. She even brought out her ipad so that I could browse the entire catalogue. I found some shoes that I liked in the catalog that they did not have in my size in store, so she would bring out a different size to show me the color, but bring out another color in the right size, so that I could at least try on for size. I even Skyped with my mom in the store to get her opinion and the saleslady was so patient with me. We decided on a pair of shoes that was not available in store, so she ordered them for me. I am highly impressed with the customer service here. Whether you dress up nicely or dress poorly like me, you will still receive the same customer service.

I've since bought a few things online (another winter coat and a travel jacket). The few times I've been in this location I've always had great customer service from the staff here. Recommendations and tips have always been wonderful. Just recently, I came in here on a whim to get a fall/winter coat. I tried on a bunch, and wasn't happy. I let the sales associate know what I was looking for and she recommended the SnowFurry. I tried it on and I loved how it fit. Even better, there was a 30% sale going on! It was a whimsical sale, but a good sale. The coat is lined with thick fleece and is water resistant. I am also a part of their rewards program - I had signed up ages ago because I knew I'd be buying a lot more items. Each coat that I have are all in great condition, and I was told to bring in anything that I wanted to exchange because of their lifetime guarantee. I heart EB.
