After playing at the casino with some friends, we took a quick lunch break at Journey's East. While looking over the menu, my wife had a Mac & Jack for $7 and I had a bottle of Asahi beer for $7. For starters we shared the Coconut Firecracker Shrimp (qty 6) for $14 and the Chicken Karaage for $13: Japanese fried chicken drizzled with spicy mayo; served with lemon. My girlfriend ordered the Shrimp Pho for $17: Beef broth, rice noodles, yellow onion, green onion and cilantro; served with bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño, lime, sriracha and hoisin sauce. Meeting a friend for dinner, she recommended dining at Journeys East inside the Tulalip Casino in Marysville. We had no reservation, and were told it would a 30 min wait. We originally walked up and were told it's a 3h wait, so they put our name down and our phone number and said they'll text when the table is ready and usually it's much less than the 3h wait. I'm not sure what the reason was, when we got seated 40min later, the restaurant was half empty the whole time we were there??? There was plenty of staff in front and behind the counter, so simply odd to say the least. I honestly liked it a whole lot more than expected, we had the Pad Thai and the Bo luc lac. The pad Thai was nothing to write home about, but still OK for casino food. The beef dish though was really good, would totally order that again. Hit and miss lunch at Journeys East in Tulalip Casino. I appreciate the variety they have on the menu, I think anyone can find a dish they're in the mood for. The problem is nothing is done well. On the plus side the steamed halibut was nicely prepared with a generous serving and complemented by ginger. The tempura shrimp appetizer came hot and crisp, I think there were at least six good sized tails there. However, my spicy pork was way overcooked and rubbery, my wife's chicken pho was bland, and my father-in-law's wonton noodle soup was also tasteless. I rated the fried rice with chicken 4/5 as it was a decent portion with lots of ingredients. The Pad Thai shrimp was barely a 3/5. There was a weird vinegar taste in the noodles. These casinos make so much money, yet still can't be bothered to make great food. Whatever. They currently don't have sushi because they're understaffed. Probably quit cause they're underpaid or something. Spicy dumplings - These are slightly spicier than most of their other "spicy" items, so I'd say it's like 2 stars. The oil in the sauce does help tone down the heat of the chili as well. The dumplings themselves are a bit bland and dry. Could be frozen, but I'm not entirely sure. Chicken stir-fried "udon" - Not terrible, but nothing interesting to comment on either. Umami is average.....well, maybe slightly above average for this kind of dish at a fake Asian joint. They made a small attempt with the cilantro and green onion to balance the flavor, but the noodles still get oppressive after the first couple bites. Green curry - If the dumplings were 2 star spicy, this is like 1.5 stars. You can immediately tell the green color is too light and the curry is thin. A ton of cucumber and not much actual chili. This is barely a curry. However, the flavor is really not bad. It sits at a level of creamy sweetness that's rather pleasing. Obligatory, I don't like the generic rubbery chicken that they use in everything. But to their credit, they don't overcook it so much. This establishment is terrible and should be avoided at all costs. I ordered nigiri to go at approximately 3pm today 11/23/25. They gave me a buzzer to return when the order would be ready. The cashier said it would take 30-45 min. It never went off so at approximately 4pm I went to the counter to inquire about the order. The cashier took the buzzer from me and said she would go check. I have been dining at this restaurant since it opened. Before COVID I dined here at least once a week. Several of the servers are familiar with my order and have always provided excellent service. However, after negative experiences on my last two visits I don't plan on coming back. On my previous visit the expeditor, Loralei, was in a rush. She kept trying to bring dishes to our table that we did not order. When she finally did bring the dish we were waiting for she slammed it down on the table. Hard enough that I was afraid the momentum would take it off of the table. We spoke to the manager, Shannon, she apologized and said she would speak to Loralei. She did admit to setting dishes down roughly. We were assured she would receive more training and that she was a good worker that was simply trying too hard to be quick. As our previous experiences had always been positive we felt the matter was resolved. This evening was about a month after the first incident. I came in with my husband and a friend. We placed our food and drink order with the server and everything seemed fine. Loralei was the expediter again. At Journey's the food comes out as it is made. Consequently, someone always ends up waiting for their food. We are used to this system. Loralei brought my dish. I said it was mine and she set it front of my friend. She corrected herself, but slammed the bowl of pho down. At that point I thought she may have had an issue with me because I had made a complaint about her. I tried to not think anything of it, but then a few other incidents made me think it was intentional. My friend also ordered pho. I saw a bowl of soup in the window. I did not assume it was ours until I observed Loralei run other dishes that came out afterward. Our server then saw the soup in the window and brought it over. At this time we still had not received our appetizer and my husband was still waiting for fried rice. I let the server know there was an issue and he said he would look into it. I observed three orders of fried rice go out before my husband received his. I know one of those tables was sat after ours. At this point I asked to speak to a manager. Before we spoke to the manager Loralei brought my husband's rice out. She said "Here is a serving spoon if you want to share". As she said this she brazenly rolled her eyes. When, Shannon, the manager came to the table (With an unknown man at her side. Did she find me threatening?) I explained that we had a negative experience with Loralei the last time we had dinner. As I was explaining this Loralei delivered our appetizer. I glanced in her direction and probably had an unpleasant expression on my face. Shannon said "Direct that towards me not her". I can appreciate a manager that stands up for their staff, but not when a staff member is blatantly rude. I explained to Shannon that I cannot control my expressions when someone is being openly disrespectful. She said" Well, two wrongs don't make a right". After that I felt the conversation was going nowhere. I asked for the Food and Beverage managers contact information and both their names. Shannon said she was the manager of the restaurant. I again requested her managers information. She wrote the information on a card. According to LinkedIn she gave me the assistant managers name. I lost my appetite and asked Shannon to take my plate and remove it from the bill. Which she did. It took sometime to pay our bill. She pulled our server aside and they both looked in our direction. I assume she felt the need to warn the server about us. We had no issues with our server, Ryan, he did a good job and did his best to help resolve an awkward situation. I will be reaching out to the Food and Beverage manager. I don't plan on going back unless they hire a better expediter and a manager that can manage. read more

My husband and I go to the Tulalip Casino once every few months, and we try to visit all the restaurants in a rotation. We went to Journeys East when it first opened, and we liked it a lot. It didn't blow our minds at the time, but it was good and worth going back to for sure. Tonight, we went back again, and holy cow, I can't say enough about the quality and the value and how much they've improved over the last year. Maria was our server and she was perfect in her service and her recommendations. Friendly, attentive, and just all around a great server. First, we tried the Potstickers (per Maria's suggestion) which came with six large doughy pillows filled with pork goodness and served with a soy and scallion sauce. Delectable. We then had the Red Dragon roll, which was spicy and savory with all the right textures and flavors. SO good. Shrimp, avocado, spicy tuna, tempura, yum. Finally, we had the Mongolian Beef, which while a bit salty (the soy), was made with delicious tender cuts of beef and large fresh spring onions and was some of the best I've had. AND, the Honey Walnut Prawns which were HANDS DOWN the best I've ever had period. Sweet, but not overly so, with ample sauce but not swimming in it, perfectly cooked and still crisp battered prawns, of perfect size, and served hot out of the pan. Ridiculously amazing! SO good. I'm so glad we gave Journeys East another go around. Tulalip has always had good restaurants, but over the last two years, they have really outdone themselves. Oh my goodness! I'm so happy I cane here the BO KHO soup is amazing, minus the carrots. The beef is so tender and is almost like a roast. The best Pho I've ever had to be honest.
