I was referred to this BEAUTY SUPPLY by my hair, braider technician. the very first time I went in there I was amazed they have everything I mean everything !!! and the people that work there are super super nice and very knowledgeable and their prices are good !!both times I went there. I had contact with ANNA, who is super nice very talkative like me very knowledgeable about all the products. This is not close to my house, but if you are in Long Beach, I would say go to Joy BEAUTY SUPPLY. They have everything and good prices like AMAZON . They hair, makeup , lipstick, bonnets, lashes they even had hair balls from like 40 years ago. They also have hair care for men supplies for men as well in general. They also have wigs along with braiding hair . I didn't even know they still made the certain type of hair balls for children and they had them.!! a really a great place good prices thank you Anna for being so nice. Only drawback there's not a lot of parking that cannot park in the front have a parking lot on the side, but it can only fit four cars so you would have to find parking on the one residential street to the left of the store that would be the only downfall read more

I am beyond frustrated after my experience at Joy Beauty Supply today. While shopping, I was shadowed by an employee who left the counter specifically to watch me walk through the aisles. The profiling was obvious and made me feel incredibly uneasy. ​The disrespect peaked at the register. When I paid with a $50 bill, the cashier took it with two fingers as if it were something foul. Before I even had my change put away, she made a show of dousing her hands in sanitizer while giving me a look of pure disgust. ​Long Beach is a melting pot, and there is no room for this kind of behavior in our neighborhood. I've noticed since being a faithful customer for years that now I'm being followed and watched. The staff is now new and I haven't yet built up a customer/ business relationship however I found the cashiers response to a complaint extremely condescending. When I told her that I've been a customer for years and that I was uncomfortable shopping with what looked like team members suspiciously overlooking my shopping experience the entire time, The cashiers response was "good for you" I was shocked! I spent about sixty dollars to be treated poorly. I'm sure that they have experienced loss in the past however the owner should look into employing security guards and train their staff to provide better customer service. NOT BENEFICIAL FOR BLACKS! So I have been coming to this beauty supply for over 10 years. Today was it for me. Built relationships with previous workers (heavy set Asian guy) and black girl both no longer works there. The last few years I have noticed they don't have popular brands and products in stock., ITS NO BLACK WORKERS. The Mexican girls aren't knowledgeable about the products, they don't know anything about black hair. No help at all when it comes to recommending or product information. They can only tell you what everyone else is buying. Today I purchased several conditioners and protein packs for my hair. Get to counter black haired evil looking Mexican girl doesn't speak. She has an unpleasant look on her face. Whatever! I make my purchase. I walk out the door just to remember I needed a plastic cap. I walk back to register and ask her for one. She says they are free to customers purchasing hair color. I said ok. What do I need to do because I need the bag. She tries to sell me a multi pack of bags for $1.50. Ok! I only had a $1.35 leftover from the purchase I just made there. So I asked her if I could tap to purchase the bags. She said it has to be over a certain dollar amount. Ok! So I had to leave and go to another beauty supply to purchase the bags. When her judgement call should have been to give me one of the free bags. Due to the lack there of, no real parking etc. I am ending my relationship with this business. read more

It's on the larger side which I love, have a wide range of products with everything being reasonably priced aside from the natural curly hair products (they tax on those at every beauty supply I've been to.) Sad to see there's no black women working here but the women who were working there were relatively nice. I bought some cuticle remover today for 5.99$ and it worked great. It's called Cuticle... Away and it seems to get the gross stuff off the sides of your nails that we carry around from the street. I had a lot of yellow stuff on the sides and top of my toenails. It leaves a really nice, clean, appearance afterwards so this is why I recommend it. That and asking the health dept. to take better care of our streets that the chemicals that are around us which contaminate our bodies daily. What a wig that they said was human and in two days it added up like a wild animal. The hair started itching me really really bad. It's worse than synthetic I go up to beauty supply and I tell the little girl, and she's gonna tell me because the company said human here they're selling it as human air. This place may be good for your eyelashes in your earrings but baby I'm telling you I've been wearing wigs for over 30 years so I know my wigs do not buy wigs from this place unless you're going to a costume party this week that's on display is not human. This place is awesome! It's a little far for me but totally worth the drive. The ladies here are very helpful and don't stalk you through the store as your shopping. (Ppl of color you know what I'm talking about ). They have a nice selection of products for all price points but nothing insanely expensive. The wig wall is also a nice size. I just got fired from here the other day due to me requesting 5 days off of work to take care of my mother and her 2 year old toddler because she's having abdominal surgery. I'm 17, and my mom is having surgery out of the county, so of course i would have to go with my mother. the owner had asked me if i could stay with relatives after i profusely explained to him that my mom has having surgery, and needs help and needs to be taken care of, along with her 2year old son. In the interview, I told the owner that my mom would be having surgery, and that I would be needing those days off. he said we would talk about it, but i didn't think it would lead to me getting fired. I just want to make you all aware that if you come in the store to shop at 6:55 (when the store closes at 7) that the employees might not be getting payed, as we don't receive payment after 7, and before 10. The owner told me that I was using this job as a "Social Club" because I would conduct small talk with my coworkers. We weren't allowed to talk when there were customers in the store. My coworkers would tell me how the owners wife would verbally abuse them by calling them stupid, and she would get when they weren't able to understand her over her thick accent. I know that most people want to support business that treat their employees with respect and care, so if your one of those people, then don't shop here! read more

I loved my experience in this place. I was looking for a closure wig, or something that didn't have as much lace as a frontal. The girl in the front, I wish I could remember her name, was super friendly and walked me through their selection. We found a 4x4 on the shelf and she found the color I wanted behind the register. She took it out the package, let me inspect it, and made sure that I liked color. She even held it behind counter for me while I continued to shop. The quality is great, I get so many compliments on my hair. There is minimal shedding as well. I'm very happy with what I purchased. I came in earlier today when the store opened. I was very only one person was in the store and he was outside in the phone for about 3minutes before coming inside. He never offered to help and was in his phone the entire 10/15 minutes . Horrible service. The selection on ponytail extensions is also very limited. The only reason it's not a one star is because whenever I usually come in they help me out and have great prices. Love this store but my experience today was horrible. read more

I give this place less than a one star. Buyer's beware. I bought 2 bundles and a closure of Malaysian virgin natural 100% Human Hair at least that is what the package reads. At the time of purchase I asked if this hair can be dyed. The clerk assured me I could. I attempted to dye this hair and it began to smoke after the process this hair ended in a netted mess. I called Joy beauty supply and spoke to Shelly and she admitted when she dyed this hair it smoked as if this is ok. I have never had hair labeled 100% human hair to smoke while being dyed. I went back to ask for a refund but was told I had to wait 4 days for them to contact the company by Kim. That answer was unexceptionable because I done nothing wrong.
