Last week, I broke my jaw in a sports accident and went to the hospital. They referred me to Dr. Wang the next day. Unfortunately, the hospital had not actually talked it over before Dr. Wang before passing me to her, and after Dr. Wang did the x-ray they realized I was a really complicated case - would need surgery with a metal plate implant, and my jaws banded shut. She did not have an operating room available, but took the time to sit down with me and explain the injury and answer all of my questions. She was very caring and upset on my behalf of how the hospital handled my case, and she took the initiative to get me an appointment the same day with a surgeon at UCSF that could handle my case, getting on the phone personally with several people at the hospital to make sure I was seen asap so I wasn't waiting around again. I was really impressed that she took the time to sit down with me and talk to me straight, even though she knew she couldn't handle my case; she spent more time with me than anyone in the hospital did the previous day. I'm very thankful that I was referred to Dr. Wang, even though she couldn't provide the service. She set me up well for the people who could finally fix my face. She is a very caring person. Oh, and she did all of this without charging me anything - not for the consultation or x-ray, because she felt bad for how the hospital had treated me the previous day. read more

Dr. Joy Wang is AMAZING! Honestly, I don't think I could have had made it through without her. That said I only had 1 wisdom tooth extracted, but I am such a baby when it comes to these things. I put it off for way too long being scared of the procedure and horrified to go under. During the consult she eased my fears so much, she never once treated me like I was being silly, she talked me through everything and even let me know that for just the one extraction I didn't need to go under, that it was my choice. I was hugging her by the end of my consultation because she was just that amazing! I couldn't help but still being nervous when appointment day role around, they had me in the chair, starting with Novocaine and I was having a hard time just relaxing. Dr. Wang just talked to me, she distracted me, asked me questions about tv shows I watched, it was a great technique! She makes me laugh! Which is much needed in uncomfortable situations such as having teeth yanked out of your mouth! The extraction was a few minutes, easy peasy! The recovery was a bit tough due to my age, but she gave me everything I needed and squeezed me back in sooner then scheduled when I was having a little trouble with the aftercare stuff. I saw some reviews mention billing issues, mine was straight forward. I received the estimate with what insurance would cover and what I would pay and everything turned out as planned once my insurance paid out. I do agree the front-office can be hit and miss and a little short at times. No major problems, but a couple times they were quite busy and maybe not as friendly as people would expect. Her nurses though! Again AMAZING! I worked with a couple different ones and I could not possibly say enough good things. So friendly, clearly enjoy their job and patients. And more laughing, who knew you could laugh so much while visiting an oral surgeon!! You are in incredibly good hands with Dr. Wang and her staff!! read more

Dr Joy Wang is fine, but the office staff are rude and unpleasant. I have had this experience with her staff multiple times and decided to switch to another dental implant provider because I simply don't want to be treated rudely time and again. She was recommended to me by my dentist Dr Shazi, in Sunnyvale and I did have the tooth extracted by Dr Wang. Everyone says I was brave for getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out in one sitting without being asleep. I tell them I'm not brave; I just trust Dr. Wang. You don't know how happy I am to have my teeth removed in such a quick and painless way. I put this procedure off for a very long time because I was nervous and scared about the whole thing. Now, I just think it's silly how afraid I was; there really is Nothing to be afraid of. All 4 of my wisdom teeth came out in less than half an hour!! 0.o How amazing is that??! Who needs general anesthesia? I'm glad I listened to Dr. Wang, who convinced me to just have local anesthesia. Not only did I save a massive amount of money, but I was also able to be aware of my surroundings. No one wants to be confused when they wake up. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Dr. Wang's confidence, kindness and skills in her office, but what really touched me was the follow-up that came afterwards. A few hours after my surgery, Dr. Wang gave me a call to see how I was doing. She truly cares about her patients and their well-beings. It's rare to find such a busy doctor (everyone goes to her because she's just that great!) be so genuinely caring to even call her patients on her own time. Most doctors I know would give this job to their receptionists, but not Dr. Wang! She truly wants to be a part of your healing process, and to me, that means the most. I was only under local anesthesia and was a bit nervous, so she turned up some Bruno Mars to help calm my nerves (definitely worked!). Super time efficient as my procedure only took under 20 minutes, and the healing was almost painless. Dr. Wang made the entire process feel so safe and easy, and I only ever felt anxious directly preceding the surgery. I had such a great time during my procedure for some reason - I'm pretty sure I was laughing and smiling the entire time (and it had nothing to do with the anesthesia)!! She even gave me two squeezable teeth to hold because I was nervous and talked to me throughout the entire surgery to calm my nerves. She sent me a picture of myself from immediately after the surgery with a huge smile on my face. It's the day after and I've had very minimal pain or swelling. I can't wait til I can actually eat again!! Everyone is so genuinely friendly and it makes you feel very comfortable, and they are incredibly efficient as well; I was referred, consulted, and had my procedure all within the span of about a week and a half, and the surgery itself lasted maybe 15 minutes. read more

Dr. Wang removed all four of my sons wisdom teeth. The whole procedure took less than 30 minutes with a local anesthetic. Dr. Wang is absolutely outstanding. She took me within one hour as an emergency patient. I had gotten a root canal at a different dentist, and it was determined my tooth had to be extracted. When she found out I was flying to Utah in a few days she did everything possible to ensure I would not be at risk for a sinus infection. The flight went smoothly, and she took out the tooth as soon as I got back. She gave me copies, CD, and email of my records and arranged an ENT visit. Horrible experience with this office. Rude staff and very unprofessional doctor with unpleasant sarcastic attitude. Dr. Wang is not consistent with her diagnosis and changes it according to insurance coverage. Her assistant is extremely unprofessional (probably doesn't have any training or dental education), speaks poor English and very hard to understand. From desk people are rude and annoyed if u ask them questions. While I was sitting in a waiting room I heard Dr. Wang saying very unpleasant things about the pt she just treated, she was laughing at pt being uncomfortable and feeling pain. At this point I was scared even talking with her. My consultation with Dr. Wang was a disaster (wisdom teeth extraction) her sarcastic attitude was so unprofessional that I could not believe it was happening. I had a really bad experience with Dr. Joy Wang and her staff. I had been to her to check on a painful jaw (after she was referred by my dentist). She did a 2-min check on my mouth and referred me to my general PCP. These are the take-aways from my visit. I hope whoever goes to her reads this before and are aware of the financial implications beforehand. 1. Dr. Joy Wang employs malpractice through misinformation to trap customers. Repeatedly assured me that insurance covers the procedure and consultation, and coerced me to to sign the liability form (purely as a formality). 2. Later that month, I got a huge bill and they don't properly respond to calls seeking clarification of the same. The staff is rude and abusive, some of their remarks and slurs bordering on racial discrimination. 3. When threatened with complaining about their malpractice (to entrap customers to shell hundreds of dollars on services that they repeatedly confirmed as covered by insurance) to BBB and Department of Consumer Affairs, they preemptively lodged a police complaint that I harassed them. 4. Their actions have been extremely dishonest, unprofessional, unscrupulous and unethical towards the patient (me) I complained about this incident to my regular dentist and she confirmed that this has been the experience for many of her other patients and she has discontinued referring to this Oral Surgeon. And guess what, after enduring insults, harassments and rude comments from her staff, I am still fighting this case with so many agencies! read more

As a doctor, Joy Wang is great. But her office's billing practices are shameful, BE WARNED. I went to her 2 separate times to get wisdom teeth pulled out. The first time went well. I thought she did a good job and I didn't have any problems after the procedure. The second time, her work as a doctor was great but ... apparently there was a mix up with my insurance. As soon as they told me about the problem I contacted my HR and insurance company to resolve it and thought it was taken care of. A year later I start getting collection notices in the mail ... that's right, they didn't bother to try to contact me again for a year and then all of a sudden I get a collections letter threatening to ruin my credit history if I don't pay up. I contacted Dr. Wang's office to try and resolve it and, even though the letter said I had 30 days before it "officially" gets turned over to creditors, the office staff told me it's too late and they've already turned it over to collections. I complained that they hadn't contacted me prior to taking this action and they told me that my address had changed and they didn't have the new one (I moved and didn't think to update my address with a dentist I was no longer going to and thought I had no unresolved bills with ... and they still had my cell phone number so they could have called anytime). The staff was incredibly rude and treated me like dirt. Just to be clear, I have a credit score (or used to) of over 770, pay off my credit card bills 100% every month, and have more than the recommended 6 months worth of living expenses in my savings account. I've NEVER not paid a bill. And I've never been treated like that ... When I asked to speak with Dr. Wang to file a complaint about the way I was treated, I was told that "Dr. Wang doesn't speak to patients" and when I brought up the many other people whose complaints I read on Yelp, the staff told me that Dr. Wang is aware of the complains and that most of those times it was those people's own fault. How unprofessional to speak of your patients that way ... It doesn't matter how good of a doctor you are, if your staff behaves this way and you know it and let it continue, you're failing your patients. DO NOT GO TO DR. WANG! read more

I went to Joy Wang after my dentist recommended her for a tooth extraction. I have never been treated more rudely in a Drs. office - staff and herself.I should have read the Yelp reviews and not merely trusted my dentist's recommendation. I wanted to consult her on options instead of an extraction/implant or get some additional information before I went ahead ... but I was rudely told that Consulting was not something she does. In her own words - She is someone who sells new cars(implants) and will not repair old ones ( existing teeth). Nobody her or her staff discussed anything more with me and I was asked to leave. It is annoying to have such lack of empathy and a 5 min consultation before you are shoo-ed out. Likely patients should not ask questions , they should just accept whatever this Dentist says. Dr. Wang and her staff are the best! I haven't never experienced any service like this from anywhere. They make your dental procedure so comfortable and even relaxing. They really care about their patients and make it a personal goal for you to have the most positive experience possible. Even their follow up check ups are fun and friendly. My brother and I got our wisdom teeth removed a week apart and they made us feel so welcome and treated us like family. I don't want to go through the experience of getting my wisdom teeth removed again, but if I had to I would choose Dr. Wang and her team again and again without a doubt. Both my children had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted within the last few days, Dr. Joy Wang is an exceptional oral surgeon; she is professional, knowledgeable, caring, and friendly. Zero stars. I would not give any stars to this doctor or to her staff. The first time I went in to the consultation to pull my wisdom teeth, I was forced to watch a video and she was incredibly rude and loud. My first impression was "I hope she's not the doctor pulling out my teeth", sadly she was. My dad had a question to ask her and she got mad that he had left the room to ask her something. At that point I wanted to leave and did not feel safe letting her pull my wisdom teeth however my dentist had recommended her so I decided to stick to it since my dentist is incredibly nice and awesome. The day of the operation, I was put to sleep so I didn't remember the procedure. Recovery was ok but when I came back in for a checkup, she got furious that I had not eaten my medicine before coming but no one ever told me that I had to eat my medicine right when I woke up at 8 am. Then she proceeded to declare that I would end up in the emergency room for not eating my medicine and I should just be sent there directly. Woah, that was unexpected, exaggerated, and just plain rude. I have never seen a doctor treat a patient in that way. So I was forced to eat some medicine there. She left and the nurse helped teach my stretching exercises and when Joy came back in she was telling me to hurry and leave!! But I had not learned how to use the irrigation syringe yet and she got mad yet again complaining how she had another patient and that I had to leave. Am I not a patient too? And she even demanded I come back AGAIN the following day for another checkup saying how she "cared about my health" but in reality all she wanted was money. So the next day I came in again for the appointment which was completely useless because they did exactly the same thing as the last appointment! They retaught me stretching exercises and how to use the irrigation syringe which was a complete waste of time. This time, the nurse was really rough and clearly did not even care when I started bleeding from her rough treatment which she called COMPLETELY NORMAL. This was already 4-5 days after my wisdom teeth extraction and I had not bled at all since the first 2 days until the nurse literally stabbed me with the irrigation syringe. After this appointment, the pain increased instead of decreasing. Joy came in again for a few minutes and was again, incredibly rude to me saying how I needed to come back yet again for another checkup. Isn't that a bit excessive considering how she only shows up for a few minutes, does the same thing, and leaves me with the nurses the rest of the time? Clearly she's just in this for your money. I strongly advise you to NOT come to this place in any case whatsoever unless you want to be treated rudely and forced to pay excessively to an uncaring doctor and her nurses. I would never come back here even if this office was the last one in the world. read more

No complaints about Dr. Wang. She's extremely confident and has a good list of diplomas to back her up, which is reassuring as a patient. Sure, she's terse and is very quick during your exam, but you don't go to a surgeon to have a long-term, nurturing relationship. I went to see her for upper wisdom tooth extraction about 5 years after I had my lower teeth removed. The consult was unremarkable. You watch a pretty decent video, Dr. wang comes in, does a quick exam, and gives her recommendation for anesthetic options. Her staff is extremely efficient on the day of your surgery and everything goes like clockwork. You walk in, make your follow-up appoint for one week, and get ushered into the OR pretty quickly. The nurse gave me laughing gas, another one ran through my post-op instructions, and Dr. Wang numbed and went to work a few minutes later. Within 5 minutes, both of my upper wisdom teeth were pulled and I was getting iced by the nurses. The total time from parking to getting back in the car was probably 30 minutes. My post-op was much more comfortable than the last time I had extractions performed by a doctor in Cupertino. This time, I was eating Thai food the next afternoon, Japanese food a few days after that, Chinese food, Italian food, donuts, etc. I didn't touch any of the soup I had prepped before and didn't even need ice cream. Swelling was not noticeable probably... 2 days post-op. To make things easier, ask for your Rx the day of your consult so you have them at hand after the surgery. Also, bring them with you so they can mark on the bottles to make it clear which ones need to be taken until finished. If your Rx copay is high, just get your drugs at the office. They'll charge you $10 per medication. Overall, a good experience. She calls the evening after your surgery, which is rare for a surgeon to do personally. If it was possible I would not even give her one star! Do NOT go near this woman! What a nightmare. My son waited until he was 23 to deal with his wisdom teeth. Yes! That was a bad decision. We went to Dr. Wang because he had an infection in his tooth. She had a complete over reaction. She was very upset, she talked to us in a rude, demeaning and insulting manner. In short, she behaved badly. She lectured us and then decided to pull all four of his teeth. I was really worried and scared. My son got so upset by the chaos in her office, as well as, her behavior that he went in the bathroom and fainted. When they discovered him, she got angry. Instead of treating him, checking him over, or being supportive, she informed us that, "She couldn't deal with him if he was going to "freak out". I have never dealt with a medical professional that behaved in such an appalling manner! So much for the Harvard Degree on the wall. She then insisted we go to Stanford Hospital to deal with the infection. Thank God she made this suggestion and he did not have the surgery. She told us that my son would have nerve damage! I am so glad that she told us to leave and I had the sense to do so! We went to Stanford, they simply gave us a prescription and we sent us home. I got another oral surgeon to do the surgery. There was absolutely no drama! I still get to pay 188.00 for this pleasure! read more

Our dentist only recommended removal of 2 wisdom teeth but Dr Wang quickly concluded that all 4 needed to be pulled. I do wonder why and I wonder how often she only recommended removing 2 teeth. We also were forced to pay on the spot on surgery day. Good thing they accepted Amex card. That's efficient for the practice but no customary billing courtesy for the patients. Even hospitals dealing with true emergencies don't treat their patients this way. Her academic credentials and skills are and/or maybe impressive but the humanities and caring qualities appear to be lacking. In general, Health professionals obtained excellent education and opportunities from the US education system and should reciprocate partially by making dental care more available and certainly not by trying to maximize profit by pulling as many teeth as possible. read more

I had the most pleasant experience getting my wisdom teeth taken out by Dr. Wang 3 years ago. I was experiencing excruciating pain on the right side of my jaw, throughout the night one night...such bad pain I couldn't sleep & I was punching myself in the jaw because it was so terrible. First thing in the morning I contacted my dentist, she took some x-rays & reffered me over to Dr. Wang immediately & they took me in for an emergency wisdom tooth extraction. I was put to sleep (I was too scared to be awake) & when I woke up, I asked "Did u do it already?" They laughed & said a lot of people ask the same thing. They had taken out my two right wisdom teeth & did an amazing job. I had no pain, no soreness, no bleeding whatsoever. I got home, slept for a couple hours because I was still drowsy, when I woke I had a huge appetite and wanted sushi/seafood so I went to Todai buffet that same evening just 4 hrs after my surgery. I didn't even swell much until about two days later there was minor swelling but still absolutely No pain or soreness. I am writing this review 3 yrs later because I am just now experiencing the same terrible pain on my left side now & having to look for a new surgeon in San Diego. :( Today is a Sunday so no luck getting them removed today so my search is on for a new surgeon to get my teeth pulled...very doubtful I will find someone as great as Dr. Wang. I am just so thankful to have had such a great experience in the past, getting my wisdom teeth pulled out by Dr. Wang after hearing so many bad experiences from so many other people when they had their wisdom teeth pulled from other oral surgeons. I often hear it takes a few days to get back to normal eating & normal routines...Well with Dr. Wang, I felt normal AS SOON as I woke up from the anesthesia about 40 mins after the surgery? I HIGHLY recommend seeing Dr. Joy Wang if you have to get your wisdom teeth taken out. :) read more

Had all four of my wisdom teeth removed here at the same time. The whole surgery took less than 10 min! Dr Wang and her assistant kept talking to me made the whole process less stressful. Barely felt any pain in the following days (except in the first afternoon). She was very nice to me and explained what I should do and shouldn't do to make it heal in the follow up appointments. There are not enough words to express how well everything went during the firsrt stage of my implant. I have SEVERE dental anxiety, and hearing I needed to have an implant was devastating. I went 10 years with no dental care due to this situation. My usual dentist Dr. Diane Casey walked my xrays over to her (she asked if I'd like to do it and meet her, but I wasn't ready). It also took me forever to make the appointment. She didn't judge my situation, she must have known how anxious I was, to me this was the worst thing that could happen, I'd rather lose a leg. Thats how irrational my dental fear is. All I felt was the pain from the shot - but thats nothing and after that, just a little pressure. Then it was done. I felt so relieved. I had been feeling pain because my wisdom teeth were growing sideways so I quickly scheduled to come in and get my teeth pulled out. Dr. Wang answered all my questions and her staff did a great job explaining the care process for after the surgery. Dr. Wang and her staff were really caring throughout the entire procedure, even calling later that night to check up on me. I had no problems following their instructions and recovered quickly. I was referred to doctor Wang by my primary dentist for wisdom teeth extraction. All I can say is that my experience with wisdom teeth removal was close to painless. Went in for a consultation, got my X-rays done inside the office, (they charged close to 200 dollars). And then came back again for the surgery. All I remember was the nurse putting me in the chair. Dr. Wang sticking the IV in me and continuously telling me that I'd go to sleep soon. I woke up in a different room with another girl behind me wailing/screaming/crying. Which probably scared me because I started crying. The nurses threw some ice packs on my face and helped me to the car. My mom said that I was being terribly emotional on the car and was crying for no reason. Probably a bad reaction to the anesthesia. Got home & all i remember was taking my meds and waking up with ice on my cheeks. Swelling was okay till the 3rd day. Then I couldn't smile. On the first day after surgery I felt like I could do my daily gym routine. But my mom insisted that I rest. I was back @ the gym by day 4. I had questions over the weekend and just by dailing the 1800 number I was able to reach one of the on call doctors!! Even @ 10 PM. Dr. Wang and Dr. J run a fabulous practice. So, the time for me to have my wisdom teeth removed has finally come. They've never really bothered me - no pain, nothing. But when I first saw the x-ray, I saw that the two on the bottom were growing horizontally. I agree with Dr. Wang to remove all four - don't want any problems with them in the future! Dr. Joy Wang is super cool and chill. She explained the reasons as to why it's better for me to remove all four teeth. It was nice how she could speak Mandarin and is so friendly - I feel very welcomed there. When the D-Day finally came, a.k.a today, I was so nervous!!!!! I hate having stuff done to my teeth, so I decided to bring my 'Stache Labbit hehe. Yes, I'm 20 years old and I brought a mustached-rabbit plushie to the surgery - super glad I brought it! I chose to just get the local anesthesia and the laughing gas. Everyone was so nice before, during and after the surgery. The only painful part of the procedure was getting the anesthesia shots - ugh.. and it was hard to swallow the pills while your whole mouth is numb. I had to wait a bit after the shots before the real removal of the teeth. When Dr. Wang came back, she started chatting to me casually. I was wearing a tshirt with lots of flies printed on it and Dr. Wang was telling me how she really likes it and wants one too haha. She was super quick at plucking out the two top teeth - no pain, no feeling, nothing. She would constantly ask "How was that, not too bad right?" and I'd shake my head and tell her horrible and painful it was (of course, I was just kidding haha). She did an awesome job. The only scary part was when she used the drill to get the two bottom ones out - the sound is freaky! But again, there was no pain! I was surprised at how quick and painless the procedure was. Dr. Wang did an awesome job at calming me by asking me stuff about my Labbit hehe. In conclusion, I love how Dr. Wang doesn't make the surgery a big deal (OK, maybe I'm the drama queen here) and is super confident about the procedure. I trust her and was glad to have been referred to her instead of any other doctors. Again, I'm just so glad I went to her because everything is just so reasonable. The prescription was $30 and the cost of the procedure was very very reasonable (I have no dental insurance) - both my Mom and I are very happy to pay the total cost. Now, all I hope is that I will lose some weight due to the fact that I have to be on a liquid diet for a few days hehe. I love Dr. Wang - can't wait to see her on Monday and have her tell me how speedy my recovery is! Oh and, I love how she calls you on the same day of the operation to ask you how you are! read more
