Warning - DO NOT GO. It's been a couple of years since my last visit, but I recently checked to see if Joy was still practicing, and I'm honestly surprised she is. My experience with her was extremely traumatic, and it still affects me to this day. She is the FIRST person I warn my friends and family about especially when it comes to extractions. Her bedside manner is terrible. She comes across as cold, arrogant, and dismissive. During my procedure, she was very aggressive and rushed, almost as if she was trying to show off? Lol...or she ust get it over with as quickly as possible due to her double booking her patients. It felt uncomfortable and unsettling with her. She also spoke in a very condescending tone, as if patients owed her... which made the experience even worse. The office itself is outdated and not very welcoming. Same with the staff. Very transactional. There are plenty of qualified oral surgeons out there and I am not sure what makes her think to disrespect patients and be so unprofessional despite no notable awards or recognition she had in the Bay Area. PLEASE consider other options. I strongly recommend avoiding this office and Joy. As for the reviews, trust the negative ones. I recently got kicked off my parents insurance and have been calling around nearby offices to try and see what insurance companies they may be in network with, and after hearing from friends/coworkers about this place so I thought I'd call over just to see. Terrible experience. My daughter needed a wisdom teeth extraction and was understandably nervous and tearful. Instead of comforting her, walking us through the procedure, or maintaining her professionalism, the doctor immediately walked out of the room upon seeing her tears. She began complaining to her staff outside that she 'could not operate with tears,' acting as if she were the victim, and complained about having 'two procedures this morning with crying children already.' The doctor's bedside manner was astoundingly absent. Instead of being the medical professional, she acted like the patient herself. The staff took their cues from her and offered no assurance or compassion. We felt unwelcome, as if our presence and my daughter's anxiety were a nuisance and inconvenience to their office. When the doctor returned to attempt the local anesthesia, my terrified daughter instinctually blocked the needle, and the doctor stated the surgery would not work. We ultimately had to cancel the surgery, and the office insisted on charging us a $100 cancellation fee. Definitely would not recommend. read more

My first visit was from a referral and Dr. joy Wang asked if my dentist referred the correct tooth. I went back and checked with my dentist and Dr. Joy Wang was correct, the tooth was 12, and not 13. Went back the second time and she numbed me and bam. It was out. I didn't even realize and she already pulled my tooth out. It technique and precision was on point. The best part was afterwards, there was no pain, no swollen, bleeding stopped within an hour. Office staff was nice and explained everything I needed to know when I get home. Hello, This was my first experience with getting anything done to my teeth and I did not have a pleasant visit. I was told over the phone I was going to only pay $150 for my consultation but then they ended up charging me $550. This was the first outrageous price I received. I was then later quoted to have more than just one wisdom tooth removed and my total cost was $4400. This is outrageous, they said they needed the $500 up front before I leave. They also needed the 4400 the day of the surgery. This was heartbreaking as my birthday is coming up and also Christmas. During my visit I talked to the surgeon. She took a look at my mouth and stated putting her fingers inside and running them through my teeth without considering I was sensitive and in pain. I never knew the " taste of rubber gloves" until I visited this place. They up charge their Anastasia +$100 more than other places. Please save your money and go elsewhere. I also read through the contact and the way it's written you can clearly tell they care more about you paying then making sure you are fully aware of the procedure. Everything was rushed. The younger people in the office are nice and communicative, but Dr Wang is aggressive, rude, and arrogant. She acts nice but she made rude comments about my race as a "joke, which if she didn't get the memo, my family member laughed in nervousness not because they enjoy it. She condescends my parent for talking for me because I'm 18 even though she knows very well I'm financially/insurance dependent on parents and still a student so she pressured me to sign everything on the first day. If she hadn't predatorily obtained fees for the first day, I would never continued with her. I was praying I would have another person in the office operate on me but she barged in and maintained her loudness from last time and stabbed a couple of needles which I assumed was the numbing but didn't tell me. Then her assistants who are clearly interns + novice got my BP checked which skyrocketed simple because of Joy Wang. The behavior got me so stressed I cried because my dentist never roughly pulls me around or stabs needles like this without being calm and talking to me soothingly. I'm surprised for someone who claims to have such background would know how to act socially and professionally with people. Her degrees are meaningless after she insinuated she is unqualified when she operated on another family member. Initially she believed part of the op was too risky for her so she said get verification that she can operate which our dentist gave the ok. She emailed back ok I will do entire op but did half that day because she believed it required a specialist. So Harvard degree and yet I still have to see a separate person. Again was extremely rude to my parent. Her false promise + barging behavior says this place is not qualified to be running for a great city like San Jose. You'd think being in the Bay Area and having a Harvard degree this woman would be qualified but no she's not professional enough so she wants us to go to a specialist. But anyway I'm here to talk about my experience: The interns/younger people were calm and I don't have a problem at all with them learning along or helping operate since they were gentle (but please ask b/c I know many people would feel different), but Joy is ironically uneasy and like other comments she acts like she needs to get it over with ASAP. I lost my respect for her entirely after I witnessed just how mind blowingly dismissive and insanely passive aggressive she was to my parent. As a professional, you don't have a right to comment on someone's dependence on parents. She acted like I was an able bodied 40 year old dependent on my parents. Just because I'm at legal age doesn't mean I'm independent. If that consultation didn't predatorily steal x rays (which we already have from the dentist), CT scans, etc, I would have simply left mid consultation. I can tell she wanted that money so bad when she lectured about how life threatening not removing wisdom teeth are going to be for us and it has to be done ASAP before nerve damage happens. Mind you I'm not feeling pain and I'm still young. While I left out the technicalities, these are my personal reflections quite a while after my procedure. She did follow up on how I was doing which I appreciate but I'll never gain respect for her for her behavior and unprofessionalism. Im shocked for a profession that works with nervous people, she somehow traumatized me and made me feel even worse and tried blaming it on my parent. Like no, "Dr" Joy Wang, you were the one who was stressing me out and threatening to stop mid operation so I can come again for full body anesthesia...I wish you let your intern do more work instead of kicking her out mid way because you were too busy projecting your anxiety on me and my parent. Instead of trying to soothe the patient you threaten my stress (you've inflicted). I don't want to see another Dr again. Tldr: "Dr" Joy Wang, curb your ego. Work on your communication and social skills when operating, listen to your patients when they say they are in pain. Stop dismissing people. Not everyone is comfortable with interns/novice working on them but you don't even ask the patients you simply use them as practice for your interns. I didn't have a problem with them, but someone I knew who got treatment from you DID NOT. I also know you're unqualified b/c you dismiss my parents follow up questions in generally but especially post op when you know you sealed the $$ bag you pretend like my guardian doesn't exist. Let me educate you on another thing: people under 26 are under their parents insurance plan. They're also my emergency so of course I give them full permission to act on behalf of me. Avoid. We don't often see this kind of poor actor, particularly after she came recommended by members of our community. Dr. Wang chipped the base of my husband's tooth during crown lengthening surgery. Our prosthodontist, who is also a professor at UCSF and is highly competent, showed us the chip in his x-ray that rendered the permanent crown less stable and the tooth more sensitive and prone to future breakage. During the surgery, Joy was yelling at her staff and at us for everything, including demanding to know how much local anesthesia had been given to my husband that day by the dentist she recommended to do his crown prep. When we didn't know (because that's not common knowledge), she started blaming us and the dentist she referred us to for not giving her an update. She then proceeded to roughly and forcefully inject local anesthesia so quickly that it hurt my husband and caused days of swelling afterward. After this, she went in with some kind of saw device, haphazardly sliced away his gum and a piece of his tooth, and then sent us on our way, all while dismissing my husband's pain and my concerns (saying "It's just gum surgery, most of my patients go right back to work!"). read more

When you do implant at this office, pay extra attention to your billing. I did implant (D6010) at this office. The billing staff filed both D6010 and D6011 to my insurance. D6011 is "Second stage implant surgery". D6010 and D6011 CANNOT be performed on the same day!! How could you make such a fake charge? After my appeal, my insurance has reprocessed this claim and removed D6011. But this office still sent me the bill. In addition, I think that Dr. Wang is lack of communication with her patients. I had 2 wisdom teeth extractions. Yhe syaff are very nice and Dr. Wang is really amazing. The whole procedure and post procedure went very well. She took both teeth out in 10 minutes. We have been referred by our dentist to a few many times and have had great experience EXCEPT for this one. She may be good at what she does, but, we will never experience that as we decided not to go back to her after today's evaluation. She treated my s.o. rudely, dismissively and condescendingly. We have double coverage, but they wont lift a finger and the audacity to say that they cant check eligibility thus we may have to end up cash paying patient. When my s.o. told her, we'll just come back, she insisted in moving forward with the eval. She can't even keep her frustrations to herself. She has to keep her manners in check. Dr. Joy Wang did an excellent molar extraction 2 years ago. Her office has a Dental CT scan system so she knows everything about your tooth, jaw, and sinus cavities before going in. The total cost was quoted when I scheduled the appointment, and was surprisingly low. I paid out-of-pocket since I do not have dental insurance. Just went back and got another CT scan because a tooth a little tingly. And it instantly showed a problem. Dr.Wang is excellent, the CT scans are invaluable, the office is well run, and their costs are very reasonable. read more

Dr. Joy has stellar training credentials, she is very experienced and exudes reassuring confidence. She made my son's wisdom teeth extraction look like a breeze. Her high level of dexterity and skill allows her to perform the procedure with local anesthesia only. My son experienced minimal discomfort from the numbing shots, and none during the procedure. NEVER go to this place again! She treated us rudely, dismissively, and condescendingly. She does not even sit still and let us answer the questions. She raised her voice, said all that she wanted, and walked out of the room. Then she started the procedure without allowing me ask questions. I was SO uncomfortable. I was already nervous about my procedure, and she made it 100 times worse. Her assistant was not ready, and prep was not done properly yet; she gave the injection without numbing gum like a normal dentist would do, and the patient screamed from pain. She does not care. She does not read or ask patient history/ information carefully, so she did not even pay attention to what I am allergic to. Scary!! I never had a doctor who was so rude, rough, and chaotic. She just wants to run patients like transactions and tries to do so as quickly as possible so that she can keep overcharging patients. Horrible practice. read more

I did not have a good experience. I felt she was very dismissive, short and rude. She was pulling out my tongue so strongly and so far that it was hurting in a place that was not anesthetized (my sublingual glands) and simply told me to stop moving. Also, she told me she would call me at noon to follow up. Never did. UPDATE: As a follow up: BEFORE the surgery, she told me that it would feel like I bit my tongue. However, AFTER the surgery, she told me that there might be a permanent flap left on my tongue, but another surgery will not be necessary. Also, BEFORE the surgery, I asked her if she does this procedure often. She replied, "Oh yes. I just did one last week." However, AFTER the surgery, she told me she rarely does this procedure. She further explained that it is an uncommon procedure. Also, she told me to text my medical questions to their front office!?! What? That is most certainly NOT HIPAA compliant. And lastly, she gave me gauze bandages in a Starbucks bag! I do not know why they do that. Is she just trying to save money? Strange. But, reading other reviews, she does seem to run a practice that is centered on money and not the Hippocratic Oath or the best interests of the patient. But most importantly, she did not remove the entire thing. So she wants to perform the surgery again. I am going to another doctor at this point. I woefully regret going to her. She was recommended by my dentist, but, I am afraid, that referral was based on friendship. You have been warned. Read the other reviews. I would stay clear. UPDATE: I went to Stanford to have this looked at. The Stanford doctor told me that he "would've been more gentle", that "there is no reason there should have been bruising", and that "there should not have been swelling at the site". The Implant Experience Was a Nightmare 1. No Bone Grafting: Dr. Wang did not perform bone grafting during the initial implant procedure. She implanted my front tooth in 2021, but had to remove it in 2023 due to ongoing pain that also affected the neighboring tooth. 2. Inadequate Bone Graft After Removal: After removing the implant, Dr. Wang performed a bone graft. However, my new implant surgeon pointed out that the graft material was yellow and abnormal, and insufficient to properly fill the space left by the implant. The new surgeon had to remove this bone graft due to its poor quality and insufficient volume. 3. Complications: After Dr. Wang removed the implant, the experience turned into another nightmare. I suffered from post-operative complications, including persistent pain, headaches, nose pain, facial pain, nerve damage, and pain in the adjacent tooth. 4. Emotional Impact: Dr. Wang was rude and dismissive when I expressed how painful both the implantation and removal procedures had been. She responded to my concerns with scolding and sarcasm, which contributed significantly to my feelings of depression. read more

Dr Joy Wang is the best surgeon! If you want a painless wisdom tooth extraction, you must go see her! I was so nervous the day of my oral surgery, but Dr Wang and the entire team made me feel so comfortable. The actual extraction took less than a minute! The preparation took much longer, but it was still quick. I was expecting pain and swelling, but was so surprised the recovery was quick. Just follow all of her instructions when you get home and take the meds that she prescribed. She prescribed me IB Profin, but I didn't even need to take half of what I got because it really was not that painful at all, just a bit uncomfortable on the day I got home. The entire staff was also really nice including the assistant and Cathy! Please note they are extremely busy and handling high volume patients so they may seem rushed sometimes, but will answer any questions that you may have. read more

I came for an appointment for an evaluation of a wisdom teeth, the doctor said aiyo you are so young and have so many broken teeth, did you go regular cleaning? I dislike this type of talk, I don't have the most healthy teeth and not proud of it and it is not what I want to hear. This is demeaning. Then I was send to take an x-ray, the doctor may have spent 3 mins with me to ask me if I have any questions, she said that was a cavity so need to take out. Then I was instructed to fill out a form and someone put on a video of the procedure and things need to be aware of the operations for about 15 mins. First, I was received a bill, then I wondered if they have filed a claim so I reached out to them - they replied my email said the claim is in process and asked me to reach out to Cristina but the bill due in two days now. I reached to them again via email, no reply so far, then I leave them an voice mail no phone call back. I am writing an email back to them now and see what happened. now I am reading more reviews look like they have very incompetent billing staff. do not like this office at all. I think it's by far the worst business I have ever come across in my life. I were referred to Joy Wang for implant last year. I made appointment in the phone.It didn't send me any notification prior to the appointment. I were bit surprised. When I visited the office, nobody come over to me even after 10 minutes after the appointment. So, I check with the front, then they showed me to a room. My first impression is that this is a poorly managed business. Then Dr.Wang checked my condition. She somehow chide her employee for something I didn't understand. I think it's inappropriate to chide employee in front of customer. But who cares, my only concern is my tooth. They told me that it need to contact my insurance company about how much insurance will cover, then they will inform me. I receive no notification in two months. I drop few emails to info@siliconvalleyoms.com and insurance@siliconvalleyoms.com, no response. Then I called the phone 408-736-4332, and realized they didn't contact insurance company at all! 4 weeks later, I write email to them, again no response, and I call front. They told me Christina is in charge of this case, and ask me to directly contact Christina. I called Christina couple of times, never get through. I can confidently say that, because I personally have worked in the medical field myself for well over (20) years. She is an excellent oral surgeon, and her concern and caring for the patient is beyond exceptional. I personally needed extensive oral surgery, and Dr. Wang made the two oral extractions that I had, absolutely painless, and I don't think it took more than a few minutes for each procedure, and it was over! Without Dr. Wang's expertise and skills, I know I would not have had such a pleasant outcome. The reception staff were excellent, they met me at my car and came to get me when it was my turn to go in. Everyone was dressed in PPE so it felt very safe and clean. Dr. Joy Wang was absolutely top notch in explaining why I didn't need to get my wisdom teeth out, and why my regular dentist may have believed I needed them out because of their limited x-ray equipment. She provided me a dictation, as well as a video of the CT and copies of the x-rays all explaining why so that I may present them to my regular dentists. I highly recommend going here for the consultation at least. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because I wish I was informed about the uninsurable cost of the CT scan ($100, apparently a discount from $400) up front, I only found out when the office manager gave me the bill which wasn't great. I fully understand why it was needed, but I don't see why they didn't tell me the cost up front especially if it was out of pocket. Other than than the CT the cost of the billing seemed fairly regular. ~$350 overall for the consultation + x ray + CT without insurance (I expect the insurable portions to go way down). read more

Dr. Joy Wang is amazing! I was referred to Dr. Wang for a wisdom tooth extraction. I was initially hesitant about the procedure but Dr. Wang made me feel at ease. I appreciated that she told me I don't need to remove all 4 wisdom teeth -- I only needed to remove the bad one. (I can still use the other 3). The procedure itself was much better than I imagined. I couldn't believe how fast it was. I was in and out in 30 minutes. It didn't hurt much and I was back to normal in 3 days. Just make sure to follow the post-surgery instructions to prevent dry socket problem. Dr. Wang called me the day of the extraction and then 1 week later to make sure I was OK.
