This a small place with amazing food! There is nothing fancy about this spot so don't come in expecting a waiter. My friend and I decided to order two drinks and two dishes to split. -Alambres: I have never heard of this dish and was intrigued. We didn't know what was in it so we ordered it blindly. This knocked our socks off. We picked beef, so it had chopped beef, bell peppers, onions and bacon in it. It had melted cheese on it, as well and came on street taco sized tortillas, probably eight of them. -Pupusas: we ordered bean and cheese, as well as the chicken (I think). They came with a small warm orange dipping broth and small slaw. These were nice, big size, as well. -aqua frescas : they had watermelon, horchata and melon so we got the first two. The horchata was nice but we didn't finish it off. The watermelon was delicious and refreshing. If we're ever back in the area, will def go back! Also, stop in at the panderia that is next door! Fabulous options! They have a small salsa bar with several options (all had a kick) and radish, cucumber and pickled jalapenos. The chips on the side were the round corn chips- maybe store bought. They were not my favorite but the salsas were good. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

Got 3 chicken tacos and the meat was pretty dry. But it's good vibes inside, they have music and sports playing. I want to come back to try the alambre, their chicken soup while it's still chilly out, or take advantage of their deal to buy 5 tacos and get a free drink

    Asada Torta (requested no tomato)

This is a real whole in the wall place. Everything is in Spanish including the payment console, haha. Most tables were already taken during lunch time too, so I had a good feeling about this place... I enjoyed my Asada Torta, but I would pick a different protein next time. The asada was diced into little pieces, so it was hard to keep it in the sandwich. Very tasty though!

Outside area, maybe you can see the sunset colors

Wow! It is real authentic mexican food. So far the most authentic I've tried. Great place, with tables indoor and outdoor. And for some people the most important, with a good price.

Al Pastor Taco ($3.50)- 3/5 stars

3.5 stars overall but rounding up for one of the better burritos I've had recently. They weren't busy at 4:15pm on a Sunday, and it was about a 10 minute wait for a take out order. Their menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=QFHpf7B-EJ7nFtSS3usHsw&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg) has a ton of different options, including menudo, mole, and quesabirria. Joya Taqueria offers a wide variety of different proteins, including different types of offal: buche (pork stomach), oreja (pig ear), cueritos (rendered pig skin), trompa (pork snout), and cabeza (head). They also serve the classic proteins: asada, al pastor, carnitas, and pollo. I opted for the classics to start off with, and tried: -Carne Asada Burrito ($12, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uIcjPW6PBhLec7NFFdqeeg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): I pretty much order all my burritos without beans, and this burrito was still a good size without them. The carne asada was actually flavorful, and had a nice sear. If this burrito had a little more sour cream and the option to add guacamole, it would've been perfect! It was still really good after I added more sour cream at home, and used their green salsa. -Al Pastor Taco ($3.50, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=JBi2weXriAihfBAk6bpHTQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): It seemed like the al pastor was cooking on the spit for a while before I arrived, and I think the meat would've been juicier/less dry if I came when they were busier, and going through the al pastor more quickly. The corn tortilla was also a little dry, but I liked the flavor of their al pastor. I really appreciated that they give you a small ziploc with sliced cucumbers and limes, in addition to salsas. They had two types of salsa- a creamy green jalapeno salsa and a spicy red salsa. The creamy green salsa was delicious, and had a great level of spice. I wasn't a fan of the red salsa since it was too acidic and had too many chili seeds. I'll be back for more of their burritos, and plan to try some different proteins for tacos the next time around! Both indoor and outdoor seating options were available, and they had hand sanitizer. Some staff were wearing masks (despite the mandate being lifted), but the majority were not. Parking was easy to find since they have a small lot to the left of the taqueria, and there was a larger parking lot available to the right of the Joya Supermarket.

Delicious authentic Mexican food! Across town from where we were but still made the trip for some home cooked style yums. The chivo quessobirria is a foolproof delightful meal ! Great portions and super tasty. Must try!!!

Right off the bat, I was so mesmerized by the colorful display they have from left to right inside their restaurant. What we ordered: Shrimp ceviche Enchiladas suizas Carne Asada Plate Pollo Asado Tacos FOOD: 8/10 Their food was flavorful, with hearty portions, and best of all, served piping hot! Chevy's could never! LOL. The shrimp ceviche was fresh; however, we wished it had more of the citrusy juice and was a bit dry. The cubed mangoes were a nice fresh addition to the ceviche. SERVICE: 10/10 The nicest staff to stumble upon. We were helped by 3 different people, and each of them was so kind and attentive. AMBIANCE: 10/10 Their ambiance is everything, whether it is inside or outside. Outside, there is a lot of nice seating to enjoy the weather. I can only imagine how it looks at night with the twinkle lights on. Inside was so beautiful and eye-catching. There was color everywhere, and I truly loved their rainbow-pattern theme, papel-picados and mariposas displayed all throughout the restaurant. The mixed colors and patterns of chairs per table were beautiful. Their bar area looked so cute and fun to be at. They definitely had so many different types of tequila brands displayed, which makes sense, but I thought it was nice. Parking was fine, thankfully, but it was very small. I wonder how it would be at night or when it gets packed. Overall, this is a great place to stop by!

Very solid taqueria featuring some of the best pupusas in the area…read more Today I had a pupusa revuelta (cheese, chicharrón, and beans) and another with carne asada and cheese. Both are hand-made to order with fresh masa and come out so hot you're gonna want to let them sit for a minute before digging in, if you can restrain yourself. The revuelta pupusa has a soft and flavorful filling that comes together kind of like cheesy frijoles charros. It's kind of the classic pupusa filling and I think for good reason. The smooth and well-mixed filling ensure every bite has masa, each element of the filling, and ideally a healthy pile of curtido and salsa. The asada pupusa is a little bit more of a novelty, but the asada itself is solid and I like the variety of having different feelings to work with. If this is your first time here, I recommend going with the asada. My only critique of these pupusas, which is a critique of pupusas I have in general, is that they could use a little more filling, particularly around the edges where the bites can be kind of masa heavy. Pro tips: they just got kiosks for ordering and you won't see a pupusa with asada on there as an option, but you can do so if you order at the register. By default, pupusas come with a traditional thin tomato sauce that isn't spicy, but I always ask them for the salsa they bring out when you get chips instead. It's chunkier, spicier, and slightly more acidic and I think it pairs better with the pupusas. I ask for this and plenty of curtido when I order takeout from here.

There were a lot of complaints about service but no complaints about food so we decided to try it out. Ordered 4 chicharron pupusas and one carnitas taco. Lots of the complaints were about timely-ness, and I say to those people, relax. Everybody was working super hard and fast, and it is just really busy at lunch. It takes a little time to get your food, but it was absolutely worth it. these might be the best pupusas I've ever had. They brought out three salsas for us, and I was partial to the green. The pupusas were chock full of cheese and chicharron to the rims. Fried perfectly. The carnitas taco was amazing! The pork was so crispy and delicious. As to the service, ours was great. The tables were all full, but a couple of guys said we could sit at their table because they had two empty seats. Thank you! A young person with bleached hair wearing a baseball cap (sorry I should've asked your name) was really attentive. He cleaned our table and brought us ice water. I can't wait to go back! I will be getting more pupusas, and my mom wants all carnitas tacos all day.

I chose to eat at the Palo Alto location because it is closer to my final destination. I tied up my "FrankenBike" on the sidewalk beside this fine eatery and sat in a 2-seater table where I could see the pole/pennants from my machine--just in case...! The waitstaff were very accommodating to me, though they have NO responsibilities for my parking there. Fortunately, there was no foot traffic and only three peds passed by during my 2-hour stay, possibly exhibiting some interest in my much modified CruzBike.com + the added ebikekit.com 48V direct drive eSystem.
