I met with 3 surgeons before deciding on Dr Chen to do my procedure. My silicone implants had ruptured. I didn't want to replace them with more implants which meant I would have to go through another explant surgery in the future. Dr Chen actually listened to what I wanted and didn't try to sell me on another pair of implants like the other surgeons did. She listened to my concerns, and my preferences. Liposuction and fat transfer to my breasts clearly would not look the same as having implants but she respected that I was perfectly happy with having a natural look. Dr Chen was confident in doing my procedure and did not try to convince me that I needed bigger implants with a breast lift and install some kind of mesh thing, like some of the other surgeons had tried to sell me on. She listened, gave me her feed back as to what I should expect with the results, listened some more, then confidently told me yes Lipo with fat transfer was a good decision for the look I would be happy with. Dr Chen called me to check in the evening after my surgery, answered my questions, and we scheduled a pre-op so she could see how I was recovering. I experienced very little pain and bruising after the surgery, in fact I was able to go on a short walk with my little dog the very next day and everyday after. I was able to go back to work fairly soon. I have had a smooth recovery overall, I have experienced very little to no pain, and I am very happy with the results. Most of all I know with Dr Chen, I have made the right choice for me. My teenage daughter developed breast early, and by the time she started in high school, they were very large, pendulous and asymmetrical. One was a DD and the other was a D. They did not fit her petite frame. She was always in physical discomfort and subject to unwanted attention due to her breasts. We met with a few plastic surgeons to discuss a breast reduction and lift. We ultimately decided to go with Dr Chen for a couple of reasons. I was particularly impressed with her pediatric specialization and experience working with children/teens. Most plastic surgeons don't have this type of specialization and some wouldn't even consider performing the procedure on a minor. My daughter and I both really appreciated her patient, respectful manner. She validated my daughter's concerns and reasons for wanting the procedure in a way that made her feel understood. She answered all of our questions and helped us both feel comfortable and safe. The procedure went very smoothly and the communication throughout was excellent. But I think I was most impressed with their post-recovery follow up. She doesn't do the procedure and then leave you on your own. We continued weekly check ups for nearly 2 months afterwards, which was so reassuring as her body healed. I didn't expect that level of post op care and attention. They were with us for every step of the healing process, answering all of our questions, reassuring us on the progress. All bodies heal differently so it can be hard to know what's normal, etc. so having that weekly check up was hugely reassuring. They genuinely cared about her and it showed. The end result was extremely natural and subtle. My daughter is thrilled to have breasts that are lifted and more proportionate to her frame. It was such a happy day when we were able to go shopping for a new bra and she could finally fit into a B/C cup. Horrible, do not waste your hard-working money; I spent close to 8500k for a 360 lipo, and guess what it was horrible I did not notice a difference! I had to spend another 9k to have a better doctor to re-do my 360 lipo. She offer to re-do my procedure for another $800! which she did and then while waiting for my ride to pick me up she called her screaming yes screaming that she is late and now she will be late to pick up her daughter from school. It was embarrassing and unprofessional; she literally yelled at my sister-in-law that she is late to pick me up; FYI it's extremely painful to have a lipo procedure with her because she doesn't numb you enough I cried while having the procedure! and she rushes to perform the procedure so she could move on. read more

I waited a full six months to post this review because I wanted to give Dr. Chen the benefit of the doubt when she said my results can take up to six months to show themselves. Unfortunately, it's been six full months, and no one can tell, myself included, that I had anything done other than botched surgery. I am not happy at all with my results and absolutely regret getting my procedures done with this doctor. I originally went to Dr. Chen for 360 liposuction and arm liposuction. During my consultation with her, she talked me into a BBL, and I figured what the hell, what am I going to do with the fat that is sucked out anyway?!? I went to five different consultations, and I selected Dr. Chen based on her responsiveness, her thoroughness, and the fact that she was a female physician and I thought she knew the female body best, which would have given me the best results. Bad assumption on my part. I missed ALL the red flags. Her office was extremely dirty. All her trash cans were always full in her exam rooms. Every room was super dusty and hadn't looked like it had been cleaned in weeks. She never had front or back-office staff. It was always her like a "one-man show", which I kind of respected in a way, but in retrospect, I think back, and I wonder why I didn't question the fact that there never any staff there. Every time someone responded to my emails, there was a different name in the signature. I don't know if these are fictitious people or if they're real people that work behind the scenes or maybe remotely, but I ignored these red flags that my husband caught onto right away when he attended my final appointment before my surgery date with me. I also missed the red flag where she was pushing me to book surgery on my consultation day, even though I told her she was my first consult of many, and I didn't plan on having the surgery for at least 6 to 8 months later. During my last visit, before she collected payment, she talked about the rest of the payment owed, what felt like every five seconds of the conversation. The surgical center she used was also disgusting. While we were waiting for my surgery, we noticed a cockroach run across the floor in the front lobby. There were coffee stains on their table, and it didn't look like their waiting area had been cleaned in months. Onto my results. My stomach looks TERRIBLE! I am lumpy all over my lower belly and my lower back. It looks like there is fat leftover that she forgot to take out in those areas that she supposedly did the 360 liposuction. It's ALL uneven! I look at my body now and I think to myself that I should've just kept the fat that was there because she barely took any out and I looked better before because I was not lumpy the way I am now. When I asked her how much she took out, she took out less than 1/4 of what she legally could have taken out, and I know she could have taken out more based on how much I still have left. My arms - oh my gosh, they look HORRENDOUS! I had big arms before, but now my arms are big AND lumpy. It looks like they're deformed at this point. And don't even get me started on my BBL. She injected me in multiple sites, so I have multiple scars on my buttocks which doesn't appear to be the norm. They are not even in nature, and all I look like is that I gained more weight and became lumpy all around due to the terrible job she did. If you're thinking of using this doctor for any sort of cosmetic procedure, I'd encourage you not to. I wasted thousands and thousands of dollars for a body that doesn't look like mine anymore. My self-confidence has taken a dump. I am utterly embarrassed to wear sleeveless shirts now. I don't feel comfortable wearing my gym pants to the gym because of the way my buttocks look. And forget about ever being in a two-piece bathing suit again because the lumpiness in my midsection and my lower back is so terrible that anyone with any knowledge of plastic surgery would know something is going on that wasn't naturally there or just assume that my body is deformed. I decided to get a Tummy Tuck to fix a botched Liposuction from somewhere else. After I woke up from the surgery, I was in a little pain and discomfort. I arrived home, took some Tylenol and Xanax, and went to sleep. I was up the next morning and was able to vacuum my floor. I only took Tylenol for my pain after my Tummy Tuck! Had upper and lower blepharoplasty done in November of 2022. Lower lids did not attach properly and she performed revision surgery in April of 2023. I am now looking at close to $40,000 in having revision surgery, which includes skin grafts, to reattach lids and fix the overlap of skin on one eye that is impairing my vision (I currently use tape to keep my eyelid up). I wish I had asked to see before and after photos of her work as well as asked how many of these surgeries she has performed. (She also made a joke about my needing to invest in a recliner in order to help the eyelids heal). Be very careful here. read more

Dr. Joyce Chen is amazing. When our son was born with skin tags by his ear. We decided to look into surgical treatment options to remove the extra skin in the hopes that we could have the procedure done while he was an infant, thereby decreasing the general anesthetic route and risks. We tried in vain to obtain services through many pediatricians. They wanted us to wait until he was older and could undergo general anesthesia for the surgical removal of the skin tags. With how the world is today and the bullying we did not want our child to be of school age undergoing this procedure. We were turned down many times by different Dermatologist. Through yelp and google we found Dr. Joyce Chen. She agreed whole-heartedly with our concerns. She has wonderful bedside manner, which is difficult to come by these days. My 3 year old son tore his lip open falling at school back in May of 2019. Because his line of vermilion was affected, we needed a specialist to repair it immediately. I was referred to Dr. Chen by my primary care physician so I assumed she was prevetted. I had 32 year old implants that had ruptured approximately four years ago apparently from a fall. It was highly recommended that they be removed. I went to Dr. Chen and told her I wanted my implants smaller and that my left teat Was pointing downward from encapsulation of that implant several years before. She told me she could correct that I don't realign it with the other teat and give me a lollipop lift to make my breasts perky again. My breasts were droopy and heavy from the rupture. after surgery and my first appointment with her I asked her if my breasts were going to go down they seemed awfully large and she said they were swollen and would go down. After many subsequent visits I told her they were the same size and as droopy as when I first came in to have them removed. I paid $11,000 to have the ruptures cleaned out and have unsatisfactory breasts reimplanted and no lift was actually performed . I was so disgusted I told her that was the last visit I would have with her and how unhappy I was and her parting words were I'll have to think about that. I had my mommy makeover (breast implant exchange, tummy tuck and liposuction) last June 5, 2020 (in a middle of the pandemic). My surgery was originally scheduled in March but then due to the State's mandate to stop all elective surgeries due to Covid-19, my surgery got postponed. I had to have a growth removed from the bridge of my nose. I was so worried about the scar that would be left behind. It was a decent sized growth and would need a fairly big cut to remove. I went with Dr. Chen based on her experience and other reviews. The surgery went smoothly. When the bandage was removed 10 days later, the cut was made right along the natural wrinkles between the eye and the nose and even curved to exactly follow those wrinkles. Even with the scar still fresh, you had to really focus on that area to realize it was a scar. Somehow, it just seems to blend in with the rest of the face. Well what can I say...after many consultations for a Mommy makeover I decided on Dr. Chen. She was great at the initial consultation and made me feel confident that she knew what she was doing. I had my tummy tuck, muscle repair and breast lift on July 2019. I was super excited as I had been saving for quite some time. I noticed that once the swelling started to go down my skin was saggy and loose and my nipples are so high that no bra covers them. I literally wear sports bras daily to try and find nipple coverage. But that didn't bother me as much as how bad the stomach and waist were sagging. I brought it to her attention and she said I was still swollen. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. My husband then finally told me how ugly my stomach and lower incision looked. He didn't want to hurt my feelings, but I asked him due to how miserable I felt. In the meantime I had 3 other consulations with other board certified surgeons in Orange County and all agreed that my surgery was not an extended tummy tuck as I paid for. As well as no muscle repair on my abdominal area. All advised that I needed a revision surgery as I had way too much hanging loose skin. So I called Dr. Chen to make an appointment about my concerns again, but this time with more knowledge about my results and surgery. Her staff had always been great and they listened to my concerns. After almost an hour of waiting (Which is almost evert darn visit) she came in with attitude telling me that my skin had elasticity and therefore it was my body and not her doing. I provided all the details from the other surgeons to her and she stated she can do a small revision. I didn't need a small revision, I need a full revision. After going back and forth she agreed to do the revision surgery as long as I paid the OR and anesthesia. I had revision surgery Early November, 2020 and now my belly buttom oozes green puss and so much blood. I went twice a week for 3 months and then weekly only to be told that I had to keep cleaning it and packing it. So driving an hour to get there and still waiting an hour to be seen only to get it cleaned and packed was driving me nuts. She had me on 6 cycles of antibiotics and my belly button wouldn't stop oozing. Finally, I had the courage this month April 2021 to get other opinions through consultation. Both surgeons advised that there is no reason why my belly button should be bleeding or oozing puss this far along after surgery. My skin around my belly button was so irritated and I felt so much internal swelling. Both recommended another small revision surgery. I was terrified and pissed because I didn't have money for another surgery. However since I'm getting married through church in October, 2021, I didn't want to look or feel as I did. I took a personal loan out and moved forward with now a 3rd surgery. My belly button was so messed up internally. I had a seroma and fistula that need to be taken care of as well as my belly button being so forced internally that the doctor had never seen a case like mine. He then had to revise my tummy tuck incision and make corrections to it. He also, did muscle repair. 1 week out from surgery and my belly button is no longer oozing anything. My tummy looks better than ever and it's still swollen. My experience with my current doctor is completely different. He is a true professional. Please DO NOT use Dr. Chen for any type of Mommy Makeovers. I would Never recommend her. Horrible experience for a single mother who saved her money only to feel good again.
