Came here with three other coworkers for lunch. Their dishes are intended to be shared, family-style. They are large! So either plan to share, or enjoy a dish all to yourself! We each chose our own dish, but offered a tasting to each other. The server brought extra bowls for us. I chose Singapore noodles, but instead of the pork and chicken that it normally comes with, I asked for tofu instead. The noodles are made with curry powder and is one of my favorite noodle dishes. Theirs was delicious. My coworkers all enjoyed their meals too, including salt n' pepper chicken wings, hot n' sour soup, and beef noodle soup. Service was great. Joyee's in 4s Ranch is a cozy spot for Chinese food if you've got a craving but can't go far from the area. We enjoyed the beef roll and fried rice along with their green beans. Wonton soup was very good and the Seafood Tofu hot pot had a ton of seafood. It's a small place so only limited seating, and our server was present the entire lunch. The food came fairly quickly and the staff member was friendly and attentive. You can ask for less oil and less salt if you'd like to, and they'll do it for you. Parking is easy out front and after dinner you can go next door for ice cream or boba. ----TL;DR---- Pros: very good food, friendly staff, big menu of options, easy parking Cons: you might find some dishes a little oily (beef roll, which is great!) but you can ask for less oil Bottom Line: a solid choice for Chinese food in this area. The seafood pot was really delicious and it was a very good portion. I also liked the green beans and the popcorn chicken. The Xiao long bao was good but a lot of breading and the meat was smaller. The beef noodles was also really good The server was really amazing. She filled up my water multiple times without even having to ask and the food came out pretty fast!! read more

Came here on a Friday for dinner with a party of 2. We were seated right away. It was our first time here so we wanted to try a variety of dishes, though we knew the portions were large. We ordered the pork dan dan noodles, honey walnut shrimp, pork fried buns, wontons in spicy oil and scallion pancakes. Our server mentioned the sauce in the dan dan noodles and the spicy wontons are the same. But it wasn't an issue because it was really good! We enjoyed both dishes. The pork fried buns were also very savory and I liked the consistency of the bun. The honey walnut shrimp was good but could've used a little more sauce as some of the shrimp weren't fully coated. The scallion pancake was the highlight for me. It was the perfect balance of crispy on the outside/edges and soft and flaky on the inside. If it wasn't for all the food we ordered, I could've eaten the whole plate. It was extra tasty dipping into the sauce from the noodles! Overall, we did order a lot of food for two people. Our server did mention that to us, which I did appreciate! But it was a good thing because everything was very tasty and I was happy to be able to enjoy the rest for a later meal. Went to this plaza for Teaspoon and spotted this place next door. Online said a 25-30 minute wait for takeout, but we stopped by to ask in person and they said takeout would only take about 15 minutes. The employee behind the counter didn't speak the best English but was incredibly kind, warm and friendly! We ordered several dishes including the stir fried green beans, hot and sour soup, and cumin lamb. All were excellent! Hot and sour soup was a bit too spicy for our taste but still very tasty. I would say prices were average for Chinese food in the area. Food came out faster than the promised 15 minutes. The store itself was very cozy with only a handful of tables so probably couldn't accommodate more than 5-6 parties, but clean and modern. Good little dumpling spot, close to the office. I honestly didn't know this place existed until my friend picked it for a lunch date. It's in a busy shopping complex, and on the day we went, half of the parking lot was shut down for repaving, so parking was a challenge. I don't know that it'd be an issue on non-paving days, but it felt like it could get busy during the lunch rush. They had one large party and two smaller groups when we arrived, but we sat ourselves at a table near the door and started discussing the menu. My friend really wanted the Cream Cheese Wontons ($8.99), so we got an order of those. I needed the Garlic Green Beans in my face ($12.99), so that got added on, too. We also ordered the Pork Fried Buns ($11.99) and the Xiao Long Bao ($11.99). We asked to hold onto a menu, just in case, but they kept trying to take it from us. We were hungry! The green beans were the best thing we ate that day, in my opinion. I know my friend felt the same way, because she kept talking about how addicting they were. They were crispy, garlicky, a bit spicy and oh so yummy. Definitely recommend. The cream cheese wontons were okay, nothing spectacular but then again they aren't my favorite appetizer option. The fried buns were good and fun to eat with someone who'd never tried one before. The look of surprise on her face when she first bit into a bun...I was ashamed for half a second for not warning her of the squirt factor, but it was too funny not to laugh. The buns were good, lots of flavor and good amount of filling. The XLB were also not my favorite, but they cooled off quickly after they were dropped off at our table. Not a pleasant dining experience. In the end, the waiters were right: we didn't need the menu after all we'd ordered. In fact, my friend got a good amount of leftovers to take home to her family. Joyee's Dumpling House - 4S Ranch location (B- ) A nice surprise to have a decent Chinese food restaurant in Rancho Bernardo! I've known about Joyee for a while, but hesitant to try thinking it would be another Americanized Chinese restaurant and apart from Xiao Lung Bao, Cantonese wonton, and har gau (shrimp dumpling), I'm not a dumpling fan. But with encouragement from Penny, I took the plunge and gave it a try. We ended up having lunch there two days in a row! The 4S location is bright, clean, but pretty small with limited inside seating. There's a few outdoor tables, but we sat inside given the outside seating only had a view of parked cars with no air conditioning. Service was prompt & efficient. Day 1: The appetizers Xiao lung bao (B- ) : ordered this purely to "test out" the restaurant. It was "not bad" I won't order again because the overall experience isn't much better than Wei Chuan frozen XLB and definitely inferior to MiLa. The skin was thicker than desired, the soup plentiful enough, the meat was a little too hard, but the redeeming quality was that both the meat and the soup had good flavor and tasted fresh. Beef wrap (B- ) : flavor was good, but I prefer the Taiwanese version more, with hot beef while this had cold beef like from a deli, reflecting the Northern China style. Flavor wise was fairly good, with the hot, crispy yet chewy scallion pancake wrap contrasting with the savory beef and the cool lettuce in the middle. Would have been nice to have a touch of sweetness (like the Taiwanese wraps) but nonetheless, still satisfying. Pork sticky rice (B- ) : I guess my food bias is really showing because I definitely prefer the Cantonese style, where the flavoring from the rice is more from the meat, while this version has a much stronger soy sauce taste. The pork tasted fresh and was nicely marbled. Not my favorite rendition, but not bad. At the end of the meal, we concluded, even though it's not a great restaurant, it's the best we have that's less than 15 minutes drive from home. And, we didn't get to try any wok stir fried items, so we definitely needed to return. Little did we know the next day, at around lunch time, we would be in the area with my daughter and her boyfriend, looking for a light lunch prior to a Torrey Pines hike. So...let's try out their stir fried items! Day 2: Stir fry Pork pan fried buns (B- ) : similar to the xiao lung bao, the meat tasted decent, maybe a touch underseasoned, and soup should be more plentiful. But the bun needed help, lacking the desired crunch & crispness on the outside, while overly soggy on the inside.  Fried rice noodle with beef (B ) : this was good, similar in quality to Convoy area Chinese restaurants. It was served piping hot, decent "wok hay" with steam still coming out from the noodles. The beef was fairly good, a touch under seasoned and a little tough, but acceptable. The noodles were cooked pretty perfectly and adding their house chili oil for a little heat definitely increased the enjoyment.  Green beans with garlic (B ) : also made with fairly good "wok hay!" The seasoning evenly coated all the green beans for a good mixture of savory with sweetness from the beans. This was my daughter's favorite dish, while I preferred the fried rice noodle.  Given the proximity of the restaurant, we'll definitely be back. It's been a few months since I've been to Ju Feng Yuan and I'm curious how these two would compare. From memory, I think Ju Feng Yuan would win on the XLB, but a rematch on the wok fried dishes would be interesting. read more

Updating my review to 5 stars because of the service we had last week. I apologize in advance if I wrote the wrong food under the pictures. Our experience from walking in to leaving was 10/10. Although the restaurant is small, it's very pleasant. Our waiter was attentive and polite. He brought out a smaller bowl for our toddler along with plastic cutlery for him. Our dishes came out faster than I was expecting and was hot. I did think the price point was slightly high for some of the dishes, but I understand inflation has been horrid. There weren't too many other patrons so we had the place mostly to ourselves. Highly recommend Joyee's if you're looking for a good meal. read more

The service is okay, the food came out fast and we were able to order quickly but when we needed to ask the server for an extra spoon and some napkins they were on their phone and didn't reply when we tried to get their attention. I really want to like this place! I've been twice and so far, somewhat unimpressed. The staff is really nice but I don't like how dine in orders are served in to-go packaging. The first thing I tried was a simple beef wrap. It was incredibly greasy on the outside. I had to scrub my hands like a surgeon after eating it. Inside, the beef and veg were overall tasty, but not all bites were pleasurable. I'll just leave it at that. On my second visit I had the Dan Dan Noodles. A dish so good they named it after me twice! Unfortunately the Dan Dan here should be a big No No. The spicy brown sauce was served in a side container and was stone cold. The noodles and small amount of ground meat substance was lackluster and room temperature. Back in the day, the neighboring Pei Wei made a far superior version of Dan Dan Noodles. I miss them in this 4S Ranch shopping center that sadly has a revolving door of restaurants coming and going. I'll try Joyee's again, maybe for their signature dumplings. Was excited to try a dumpling place near our place and was very disappointed. I'll make this brief: 1. BBQ pork bun didn't taste like barbecue at all. Maybe this is different from the traditional Chinese pork bun which has a sweet bbq flavor. I did not even taste a hint of the Chinese 5 spice or star anise or hoisin. 2. Spicy Chicken was not spicy at all. It is salty and oily. The photo shows a lot of red pepper but the meat did not absorb the spicy flavor. Did I miss to order their specialty meal? I was extremely disappointed at how awful the food was here. XLB wrappers are super thick, and somehow they all came punctured so there was no soup. Just a lot of gummy wrapper and dry filling. Shumai were the worst I've ever had. You know when you try to reheat dumplings in a microwave but you overestimate the time it takes so the outside becomes all hard and darkened in color? That's what I was served. Extremely dry, tough and rubbery. I was very sad to find that dumplings aren't steamed fresh here. Everything looked and tasted microwaved. I did get an order of frozen pork & chive dumplings and those were okay. Maybe the trick is to only order things you have to cook yourself. read more

My go-to for DoorDash delivery when I have a mealtime work meeting. I enjoy their dumplings (shumai, pork & shrimp dumpling, XLB), pork sticky rice, and other dishes for delivery. The shumai does vary in quality; sometimes the outside is stiff and dried out. With delivery there are times that the dumpling skin gets a bit stuck together, but delicious nonetheless. I have dined in several times as well. It tends to get busy and typically there is 1 person in the front of house taking orders at the register for to-go, and taking orders at tables, serving, and bussing tables - pretty impressive multi-tasking! The service has always been friendly though. The serving sizes are huge, including the Braised Beef Noodle soup I recently got for dine-in. I was joking with my son and the employee that we had been eating there for awhile, yet the food dishes still looked full as if we hadn't eaten at all. They help to pack up the leftovers - thank goodness because I am not very good at that! We have recently discovered liking scallion oil noodles there - delicious. One item I've gotten there that I don't love is the scallion pancakes. They're too greasy for my taste. read more

Completely floored by this new addition to the 4S Commons line up!! The food is a perfect medium of traditional, with a nice compliment of Asian-American favorites that we've all grown up on. I came just when they opened, and started off with a combo from the steam table for eat in. Twas so delicious that I ended ordering 3 more ala carte dishes to go. They have a few things to iron out whilst settling in, but you can double down on the quality and authentic taste. I'm so excited that Joyee's has made a home here!! Stand outs so far:  Honey Shrimp, Mongolian Beef, Black Bean Fish, Dan Dan Noodles and Pork/Shrimp dumplings. A PLACE THAT SELLS BEEF WRAPS. This is all I've been asking for the last like decade. Had a beef wrap in LA years ago and I could not find 1 place in SD that sold them...until now. The Xiao Long Baos weren't the best (not much soup inside) and did not come with ginger. Just soy sauce and vinegar. The Pork and Cabbage dumplings were my favorite. The food you get in the plate combo was all just okay. Most people are going to compare the XLBs to Din Tai Fung and compare the Fried Pork Buns to Tasty Noodle House. I dont really think its fair to compare. Those 2 are sit down and this is more like fast food in my opinion. For fast Chinese food thats less than 5 minutes away from my house, I'm not complaining. Came back for buns and chicken fried rice. It was great! Fried rice was a little salty but I still enjoyed. Ordered online through Yelp before my 30 minute drive home from the office and my order was almost ready. I waited about 5 minutes once I arrived. It was busy and there seemed to be a lot of pick up orders. There were also folks waiting to be seated. My food was hot so I know it was fresh. Only tip for pick up I can give is to anticipate 35-45 minute estimated wait time during dinner rush. read more

Got lazy and missed my opportunity to be first to review this place. It wasn't busy when I went, looks like I went during grand opening or soft opening when I went. I got their beef noodle soup, it was decent, not the best but not the worst. Few pieces of the meat were over-braised but for most part the pieces were decent. Comparing the beef noodle to DTF, DTF is better in my opinion but it's still acceptable for those that don't want to go all the way to La Jolla for it. I also tried their Shanghai fried pork bun, that was decent too, the surface of the bao was pretty oily though. Comparing to Tasty Noodle house, I'd say Tasty has better Shanghai fried pork bun but again it's still acceptable for those that don't want to go all the way to Convoy for it. They also have steam tray style where you can pick 3 items and choice of noodle or fried rice. That was decent, again not best but not the worst. I got eggplant, chicken wings, green beans with egg fried rice. Much closer than having to go to Poway so that's a nice perk. read more

I love the dumplings and have tried most of them. My favorite are the pork/chive. Perfect combo of flavors and totally delish. We also love the cream cheese won tons though it always seems some have more filling then others. One family member orders chicken fried rice and swears it is his favorite. A big strike out for our family are the steamed buns. We have tried many but have yet to find one we enjoy. The dough has good texture but the filling seems better suited to the dumplings. The menu has plenty of options. Prices are reasonable given the location. Ordering online is easy and take out is quick. It's annoying many restaurants are putting a mandatory 1 percent service fee on the bill (which is in addition to a tip). These costs add up for sure. read more
