Beef Noodle Soup (4/5) - the Soup and Beef were Meh, I've had better, but the noodles were fresh which was nice. Pork Soup Dumpling (4/5) - decent soup dumplings, the soup flavor was good, but wish there was more soup within each dumpling. But overall flavor was succulent. Chongqing Chicken (4/5) - def not a specialty, but tasty. I've def had better where the chicken was a bit more crispy and Wonton in Spicy Soup (5/5) - this was the standout dish, the spicy soup sauce was phenomenal and perfectly complemented the wontons. I'd def come back for this dish alone. Bonus - Chocolate Dumplings (5/5) - provided this as a free dessert, which TBH should be on the menu (if it isn't already), the chocolate flavor was so delicious and had the nice pork soup dumpling type skin. This is a lovely hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in the Scripps Ranch/Poway area. Regarding the restaurant decor, there is a large gazebo in the middle of the restaurant, and they have many cute trinkets on display as well. You can order your food from a tablet at your table. They offer many delicious Chinese dishes, my favorite of which are the pork wontons in chili oil and the xiao long bao (soup dumplings). Their pig shaped custard buns are also quite cute and fun for dessert! The menu is similar to that of Din Tai Fung, but at a much cheaper price, and their food quality is top tier. Such a great find! We kicked things off with the cucumber with garlic, which was super refreshing and the perfect way to start the meal. From there, every dish was a hit. The mapo tofu was outstanding--rich, flavorful, and easily one of our favorites. The Chongqing crispy chicken was another standout: perfectly crispy with just the right amount of heat, tossed with delicious crispy peppers that made it hard to stop eating. We also enjoyed the pork spareribs with garlic, chicken wontons in chili oil, and pork xiao long bao, all packed with flavor. To finish, the adorable cartoon custard buns were a fun (and tasty!) ending to the meal. The ambiance was welcoming, the staff was friendly and incredibly quick with service, and the portion sizes were generous--great value for the quality and quantity of food. First time here and we absolutely loved it! The service was excellent--our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome throughout our meal. I love getting their xlb, pork wonton in chili oil, honey walnut shrimp, chow mein, low mein, sautéed green beans, beef chow fun, pork spare ribs. Can't go wrong with any of those! I feel like this is not only an excellent neighborhood dumpling spot but it could go toe to toe in many areas with DTF. Their dumplings are delicious specifically their pot stickers and spicy wontons which taste fresher and have better texture than the most famous counter part, and their options for noodles and rice are definitely more varied. A few dishes fell a bit flatter like the beef roll (the beef had an odd texture) and the wings (very plain), and I will admit things were greasier than say a DTF but everything still tasted really good. Also want to commend their staff who are incredibly friendly and great to talk to. Been wanting to come here for a while and SO glad we finally did! First, the staff here are super friendly and attentive. Ordering is done via an ipad at the table but they're available for any menu questions and quick with water refills. Food is SO GOOD. You can really tell the dumpling wrappers (for dumplings, xiao long bao, and wontons) are handmade. They're more springy and al dente and beautifully wrapped. We ordered a ton of food and everything was really tasty I didn't react fast enough with photos. Xiao long bao are a MUST - and you gotta enjoy it with the vinegar and ginger! The cucumber salad is WAY better than ding tai fung's in both taste, texture, and portion! Chili oil wontons were big and deliciously fragrant, not spicy. Pan fried pork buns were crispy on the bottom with a soft and pillowy bread and juicy meat filling. We also got the combination fried rice which was beautifully golden eggy and full of meat & shrimp. The green beans were flavorful and not overly oily. Fried chicken wings were one of my favorites! Last but not least we also ordered the chonqing spicy chicken - not too spicy, full of numbing peppercorn goodness, fried lightly and very criispy. First time, the food was amazing! We went with a group of girls to celebrate my friends birthday. She's been here before, so she chose this place. We reserved, so we got seated in the special "gazeebo"! It is a place facing the door and there's curtains around it and you sit in a horseshoe. We had 7 in our group and we were able to sit there. We sat comfortably, but our food we ordered didn't. Space was limited on the table top....maybe we ordered to much. Where do I start...we ordered hot tea for everyone! We had fried rice, beef chow fun, won ton soup, 2 kinds dumplings, pork spareribs, walnut shrimp, egg rolls and more dumplings for dessert. We couldn't NOT order those cute piggies! Parking was a tad bit hard. Pretty busy at 5pm reservation we made. There's a martial arts place next door going at about that time, so they have a majority of the spaces. Seems like the orders are meant to be shared and the portions are pretty big, so we shared Mongolian Beef Chow Mein, Fried Shrimp and Pork Wontons, and Beef Pancake. Chow Mein tasted great, as did the Beef Roll Pancake. One of the better Beef Roll Pancakes I've had. Ordering is done through iPad and dishes usually come out one of two at a time, as they are ready. Pan Fried Pork Buns are hard to find, and this place makes delicious versions of these Shen Jian Bao. The service was also so friendly. This dish takes a while to make, and they were constantly checking in on me. They even gave some cucumber appetizer to apologize for the wait. I highly recommend checking this spot out. We put our name down for a table and waited to be seated. Unfortunately, one of the employees crossed our name off the list even though we had not been seated. My husband explained to the staff that we were still waiting, but despite this, they seated a party that arrived after us. At that point, we felt that our place in line had been overlooked and that the situation was not being handled fairly. We decided to leave and take our business elsewhere. We understand that restaurants can get busy and mistakes happen, but what was disappointing was that the issue was brought to the staff's attention and still was not corrected. Favorite item ordered: Chili wontons - to die for Least favorite: chicken and corn dumplings - was still good just not my favorite of what we ordered. A really tasty place located in the suburbs. We got many dishes, and I will go over what we ordered. I would highly recommend getting the soup dumplings, and the chongqing chicken. They were both really good and I would definitely get it again. For me, the dumplings in the chilis were a bit too sweet for my liking but I still thought they were made really well. Also, the peanut mochi dumpling was just alright, and if I were to go here again, I would definitely try the chocolate dumpling. Regarding wait time and the line, we went on a weeknight and there was no line for us to enter. Parking was really easy to find and the restaurant was easy to locate. The restaurant was also clean and well maintained. I also liked that there was a tablet for us to make our orders as we please as opposed to waiting for someone to come and take out orders. I was told this place is like a "Din Tai Fung in the suburbs" and I can tell why but they definitely have their differences. Their menu is pretty similar with their main dishes being XLB (xiao long bao) and other dumplings. We ordered pork XLB, pan fried pork and leek dumplings, boiled chicken and corn dumplings, chili wontons, shrimp fried rice and Chinese spinach. Everything was delicious but the standout dish for me was the Shrimp fried rice. Perfectly fried with a nice charred flavor. Shrimp is fresh and plump, rice retained their chewy consistency in each individual grain. Not mushy at all. Their XLB was ok, skin is thin but the soup lacked depth in flavor. Both the chili wontons and pan fried dumplings were juicy and flavorful! Lastly, the Chinese spinach is simply fried with garlic and some salt - a must for any Chinese meal. I've been here a few times before and always had a great experience, until tonight. We ordered the same four dishes we usually get, but the wait time was much longer than expected. It took about 30 to 45 minutes to receive all of our food. We got one dish, the pork and chive dumplings, after about 10 minutes, then waited another 25 to 30 minutes for the remaining three entrées. I understand it gets busy, but aside from the manager, who was very kind, no one checked in on us while we were waiting. This Chinese establishment specializes in handmade XiaoLongBao, handmade dumplings, beef noodles, pancakes, and stir-fried entrees. Upon entering I delighted in seeing the adorable smiling dumpling boy character. Despite being in a strip mall, this clean, well decorated restaurant exudes a classy vibe. The tables are elegantly appointed, to include a tablet ordering system. The interface was clear and easy to navigate. Not at all cumbersome and clumsy like those tacky Ziosk machines. My waiter was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. He thoughtfully offered recommendations, and I enjoyed visiting with him. The Green Onion Pancake was outstanding, although oddly served in a basket. My Pork Wontons in Chili Oil were excellent. Not overly spicy, just about perfect for my taste. The noodles are thick and coated in the rich, umami pepper sauce. The beef remains velvety tender & abundant. - Popcorn chicken (9.99): The crunchy seasoned batter continues to pack a flavorful punch. The chicken meat was a bit overcooked this time, but still tender enough. - Pork xiao long bao (12.75): These are perfect soup dumplings. The meat melts in your mouth & the broth is so flavorful. - Pan fried dumplings, pork (13.75): Definitely try the pan fried pork dumplings because the pork is tender and they are fried up perfectly. The parking lot is always empty (and free!). We never have trouble getting a table for just the two of us when we go for weekend lunch. Service is very efficient and friendly. I'm thrilled to say that I've found my go-to spot for XLB in San Diego, no need to trek all the way to LA anymore! Of everything we tried, the crab XLBs were hands down my favorite. The crab meat was so fresh that the soup inside still had that wonderful seafood sweetness 13/10! The XLB wrappers were perfectly thin, and the meat-to-soup-to-skin ratio was spot on. The regular pork XLBs were tasty too, but there was something missing in the flavor profile that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I'd rate them a solid SD 9/10 and Bay Area 7.97/10. We also tried the Pan Fried Pork Buns, which were absolutely mouthwatering. The crispy bottom paired with the soft bao was the perfect combination--I could've eaten a dozen. And the Signature Beef Noodle Soup had tender, flavorful beef and fresh noodles (personally, I thought the broth could've had a bit more depth, but my friend really enjoyed it!).
