Came here for Mother's Day and it was definitely ridiculously busy. But that's expected, as this place is a staple here. Reservations are only available for groups of 10+, so expect to wait. Since it was a special day, we waited longer than usual, 45 min. But as soon as we were seated, service was amazing and quick. The owner was the one who seated us and was all smiles and friendly. The carts went around our table non stop, no matter how busy they were. We never had to wait for a dish that we were looking for - 9/10 on service. We ordered a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I don't even know all of the names, but they were all delicious and fresh. 9/10 on food. The place itself is a banquet hall style with a stage area, many round tables for big parties and square tables for parties of 2s or 4s. They have red lanterns hanging throughout the ceiling and a big screen projector showing their featured dishes. It's fun, lively, and a big open space. 8/10 on ambiance. Oh boy. What could I say about this place after we had our most sumptuous wedding banquet here 25 years ago... We were in town from OC visiting family when my husband drove by and said hey, remember Jasmine? We decided on a whim to stop by for lunch for old time sake. The place looked exactly as we remembered- same carpet, same stage etc. After 25 yrs that should've been a bit of a red flag to begin with but we were there for the food after all. The various carts came around and we picked an assortment of our favorites- pork siomai, steamed chicken feet, ribs with black beans, xiao long bao, tofu skin rolls, steamed rice rolls with shrimp and a plate of fried calamari. I asked the wait staff if the calamari was hot and she volunteered to get it refried/reheated for us. However when it came back out it was not really hot but was rather hard and chewy. The batter was not light and crisp as it should be, and this dish barely had any seasoning. A real let down for us, and not cheap either at $17.50 for a small plate! The pork siomai had a tinge of sourness to the filling and the meat itself wasn't firm the way typical siomai should be- there was almost a grainy texture to it. The tofu skin rolls probably shared the same pork filling because those had the same lackluster texture as well. The XLB dumplings at least were juicy but the skin was thick so we didn't care for it. The bar is set so high for XLB anywhere after eating at Din Tai Fung that this was probably only at 30% of DTF! The ribs with black beans were tasty and solid, and lastly the steamed rice rolls with shrimp were the saving grace of our meal along with the ribs. The rice rolls were soft and tender, shrimp was firm and the sauce was well-balanced. We wanted so much to recapture memories of good food and good times of old but unfortunately I am sad to say that this restaurant has gone way downhill. The one positive point was that the wait staff seemed responsive enough. But in order to stay viable and relevant, if this restaurant expects to still be around for any length of time it would need to: 1. Remodel/update it's tired look 2. Change the chef and watch quality control We are wishing you the very best but your establishment needs to be willing to evolve with the times in order to regain our patronage. As foodies always looking for good quality food and good value, we were so sadly disappointed with Jasmine. Don't be fooled by this "old timer" classic restaurant. This is my 2nd time coming here. The place is fairly large, reminds me of an event hall. Huge amount of food options to choose some. Aunties are friendly and come to each table offering whatever items they have in each cart. The bbq pork was my favorite for sure and so was the stewed tripe. I'm a sucker for Chinese broccoli and dim sum. The flavors are delicious and items are made fresh. My only complaint would be that the items are not as hot as I would like. I haven't been here in years, not much has changed but the prices. It has gotten very pricey. They have your usual dim sum items, they were all mid. Nothing stood out for me. YIKES I apologize in advance for this long and nasty review. But you guys should also apologize to your customers. Like wow, I knew this wasn't going to be the best, but I just wanted something passable. I'm not sure I can call this passable. Uuuhh, how about this? Some dim sum places make their stuff to order when business is slow. Maybe you guys should consider doing that? If it's bad enough that many items are cold or get reheated when I order it, I don't see value in the carts. Maybe just bring them out on the weekends, and even if you reheat it, a reheated radish cake is not the same as a fresh radish cake, come on. Yeah, some American will be sad that he/she can't get the "full" experience, but screw that guy. The garlic chive dumpling was probably the biggest casualty. We thought it was decent; it's just like....cold. The soup dumplings have also obviously been sitting somewhere way too long. To its credit, there's still a bit of broth inside, but the texture of the skin is weirdly chewy and dried out. That's about it because I can't blame the state of the other dishes on the temperature. - Jellyfish - It looks weird; the texture is slightly off and it's really bland. There's basically nothing on it. - Tofu skin roll - The meat in this is disgusting. I've never seen the meat in a tofu skin roll this dried out and separated. - Chicken feet - The texture of this was fine, but it's pretty bland. There's like nothing added to it. - Pea sprouts - The absolute worst. First of all, I didn't even know it was possible to screw up frickin stir-fried pea sprouts this badly??? But somehow they accomplished it. Like, some of the sprouts were too fibrous and chewy. On top of that, it was a bit dry and not enough garlic. You can even tell just by the way they're initially laid out on the plate that they're weirdly shriveled compared to how a plate of fresh and soft pea sprouts should look. I can make better pea sprouts than this. As a further insult, the plate of pea sprouts is $27? The heck? Aren't these like $7 a pound maximum? Am I crazy? The egg tarts and sesame balls were fine. Did they even make these though? Press x to doubt. My mom pointed out that she hates the yellow paint of the ceiling. The walls with an orange tint are better. I don't care about that, but I was curious about the stage and all the stage lights. Apparently, they might perform once a year for like Chinese New Year or something, and those do nothing the rest of the year. Okay. I'm going to make a comment about the service as well. Specifically, I'm wondering if it's possible for service to be too aggressive. The tea cups at dim sum places are quite small, so for me, it only takes like one gulp to drink half of it. I feel like two of the employees were pretty much parked over my shoulder, immediately swooping in after every sip. It reminds me of when I was eating with like 3 Chinese aunts when I was like 15, and they just continuously dropped things on my plate. LOL It pains me to say this, and I feel like I've NEVER said this before, but this place is probably overstaffed. I counted at least five employees servicing the front of the house, when there were like....four tables with customers. I suppose some people enjoy this level of attentiveness from customer service. Excellent service from the ladies pushing the dim sum carts! Quick service from them once we sat down. When we wanted something but not in the cart, the lady would go to kitchen and order for us. We appreciated very much for the friendly, courteous and going above and beyond services. Dim sum were delicious. Crispy pork belly were with good seasoning, crispy skin and the right portion of lean:fat meat. The food here is decent but the service definitely leaves a lot to be desired. We came here for lunch and they do have the traditional little dim sum carts etc going around where you pick what you want off of them. My friend and I got the shrimp dumplings, pork sio mai, spinach, and chicken feet. Chicken feet: The flavor and texture for the chicken feet was good, lots of flavor and very tasty. Spinach: good but I don't see how you could mess up steamed spinach, I do wish they had more sauce on them since the sauce bottle was running out and the server looked annoyed shaking the bottle to squeeze more out so she kinda just gave up after getting a little out. Pork sio mai: again you can't really mess this up, pretty standard Shrimp dumplings: these are my friends favorite, I feel like you can't really mess these up either and they were pretty standard. Service here isn't bad per se, it's more like aloof/borderline aggressive(?) but I feel like that's also kind of standard for the type of restaurant this is. I wasn't really surprised by this I guess it threw me off more when I was here since they weren't super busy yet the servers were still rushing and not taking their time at all. I'd probably rate this place higher if the service was a little better (ie: if they took a little bit more time/didn't rush as much when it's not busy or if they were a little friendlier) or if the food was more standout (everything was pretty standard good but nothing standout or amazing) or if the price was a little better our total was around $46 but I didnt feel like we ordered a whole lot of food like I probably could have eaten everything we ordered by myself vs splitting it with a friend. Ambiance is just your typical older asian restaurant that has probably been around since before your parents were born, traditional looking decor lots of red and yellow, more of a family setting or if you're looking for a traditional dim sum spot. Overall, I'd probably only com back here if I was reallyyyyy craving the traditional dim sum experience, I'd hope that there's a better dim sum restaurant in SD but this is the first one I've tried out here so TBD? San Diego doesn't have the best dim sum compared to LA or Orange County, but Jasmine is pretty decent and I prefer this place over Emerald which are the two main dim sum places on Convoy. I would get dim sum more often, but I can't believe how expensive each dim sum dish costs now! If you order shrimp or seafood, it's usually more expensive. My go-to items are pork and shrimp shumai, Chinese broccoli, shrimp noodle rolls, shrimp hargow, rice porridge soup, egg custard buns and sesame balls. Today we tried a rice shrimp ball that I would not recommend. It was basically a shrimp ball covered in rice but it was chewy and bland. This place gets crowded on the weekends, but isn't so bad on the weekdays since it's a large restaurant. The staff are hit or miss. I've gotten super friendly waiters and some that are just plain rude! If you get here before 11am, there's plenty of parking. There's a parking structure and uncovered parking is complimentary for two hours which is convenient. read more

I would suggest getting the Peking duck 3course meal for about $69 ( shareable for everyone ) it comes with the whole duck, and they cut it in front of you. They cut the skin first with some meat and served it in a bao. Next, a lettuce wrap and then the duck soup! They also cook the rest of the duck stir-fried with tofu and bokchoy, it's delicious! We also got xiao long bao ( pork soup dumplings ), scallops and shrimps, beef and broccoli, fried rice, and I don't remember the names of the rest. We also got their jasmine tea which is really good especially I was feeling under the weather so that was perfect for me. This place is perfect for group gatherings, and any kinds of special events. They serve shareable foods for everyone and the best part is, they bring different kinds of dimsum in a cart at every table while you're eating and you just pick whatever you like. We've been here several times for either Dim Sum lunch or Cantonese lunch. Dim Sum dishes -- served from rolling carts -- are above average in terms of selection and quality. Prices are reasonable. Peking duck - good taste, the duck was nice and crispy, 3. Sweet and sour pork - a bit on the dry side and heavy on the sweetness. Fried fish. Oily. 4. Beef and vegetables- okay. The dish was supposed to be beef with bok choy but the vegetables turned out to be peppers and onions. Quite oily. 5. Rainbow fried rice - fried rice with lots of different vegetables and protein in it. Tasty. 6. Spicy fish fillet - awful. The fish itself was fried and very bland. The mild spicy sauce was more on the sweet side. Oily. 7. Tofu and vegetables- Tasty dish but again, quite oily. This dinner was quite rich and oily. Even though most of the dishes tasted decent, the richness and oiliness of the food was not good. I woke up the next morning with a headache and upset stomach which is not common for me. For what we paid for the food, we were very disappointed. The other thing that makes me not want to return is the parking. I attended an 80th Birthday event for my Uncle (dad's Army buddy) with about 120 guest and Jasmine Seafood Restaurant provided wonderful service throughout the 4.5hr event Variety of dishes and the host/organizer did not skimp on the seafood: fried crab appetizer, lobster, abalone with black mushrooms, scallop fried rice, steamed fish, walnut prawns, Peking Duck and more dishes to follow. Most items delicious with a couple misses. Staff attentive and accommodating and cleared and replaced dishes with clean ones like clockwork. Excellent food. Been coming here for 10 years. Lately it's gotten to be very very expensive. Just left from a noon Friday lunch and the place is 1/3 full from what it was years ago. I ordered for one, total of 8 dumplings (two small dishes) and an order of sticky rice - and a water. With tip it was $36. And, they want you to pay $8.55 for a min 2 hours of parking too! No thanks. We walked in when it first opened at 10am on a Friday morning. My boyfriend never been to the dim sum staple restaurant in SD. I thought why not give it a try since I haven't been back forever. We ordered 7 dishes and it all was pretty tasty how I remembered it. I noticed the prices went up compared to what it used to be to be. For the two of us it would have been $40 back in the day.
