I've been bringing my clothing to Joy's for tailoring since they were in the tiny shop on Park Ave, I think close to 10 years now. I love their current space on Chapin, it's so bright and cheery with the centrally placed dressing area/mirror. I've just picked up my latest project- converting boot leg jeans to a cropped cigarette leg, and as always, the fit is perfect and the tailoring very well done. I've had too many items altered over the years to list individually, from simple hemming of dresses and pants to more ambitious things like tailoring a shirt to fit from 2 sizes too big (basically remaking the shirt!) I've always been pleased with the work that Tatiana and Dee have done for me, and I think I'm pretty discerning. (I notice evenness and size of stitches/hems, thread type and color matching, how something hangs after it's altered, etc.) I also think their rates are very reasonable, considering the work and time they invest in each project and the fact that they are centrally located in downtown Burlingame. She is truly amazing! I came in to get my cheer skirt altered and she did it so quickly and it looks amazing! She made gave me so many amazing tips and made sure that I felt comfortable with the alterations. She kept it 100% real with me. I was really shocked when I got the final bill. I brought in a jacket and a pair of overalls to get alterations on and was expecting something in a reasonable price range. I've gotten alterations for pieces like them before and paid around $60-75 for both. When I came to pick up my items, I had to pay $300 in cash!!!!! My jaws dropped and I kicked myself for not asking beforehand a rough estimate :( I will not go back here again. I didn't even pay that much to get my wedding dress altered!! read more

Updated - the work that was done on my daughters dresses for my wedding was okay (hem was uneven on one of them), but I got slammed with a $400 bill to alter 3 dresses. I understand that there was more work to do 'fancier' dresses - but to not disclose that to take 3" off each dress length (hemming) would cost $160 per dress (when the dresses cost $200 each new), was a really unpleasant surprise. She offered to let me make payments. That's not much help. (for you math types out there, $80/dress, but the charge was doubled for 2 of the dresses since they had two layers). Shame on me for not getting a quote first. That was my last time going to Joy's. ________ I am very happy to recommend Tatiana - excellent results at a fair price. In life you get what you pay for. I have had my 4 most recently purchased suits fitted at Joy's, and have been so pleased that I am bringing my children in for their wedding outfits to be custom fitted. If your looking for great alterations and a lovely finish to the more special items in your wardrobe - Joy's is a really safe bet. A little bit pricey - but they do GREAT work. I take all my alterations here....jeans through to dresses, they do meticulous work. All the ladies that work there are just lovely and really pay attention to what your asking for. I should have listened to the reviews about tailoring suits. I didn't bring anything else here so I can't speak for their other work. I had to have a suit tailored last minute for an interview. I went here on the recommendation of a friend. I hate to say it, but I am very disappointed. The turn around time was decent, but I certainly paid the price (both in money and quality). The pants were not taken in enough so they still hung off me, slightly better than when I brought them in but still not nicely fitted. Also, the hem of the pants was slightly higher than I anticipated and liked, even having measured it to the shoes I was planning on wearing. The jacket was ok, but I could see some of the new stitching in it, which I was not thrilled with. However, the biggest problem is that the 6 months later (and maybe having worn the suit a handful of times over that period) the seams are coming apart in multiple places (back of the pants, back of the jacket, falling hem)! Now I have to take this suit to get tailored again. I certainly will not be taking it here. read more

Extraordinary business! Finest quality. Tatiana is an amazing human being. I called her last minute before a trip to Greece TOMORROW!! I literally needed a gown in less then 24 hours done! I stopped by Joy's European Tailoring over the weekend as I had an emergency situation! I came to town for a relative's wedding and my 3 yr old rascal son spilled his pomegranate juice on the skirt part of my beautiful silk Jovani dress (grrr) as I had it laying on the bed while unpacking...luckily I still had a day til the wedding. Not wanting to deal with dry cleaning and wasting time in case the stain didn't come off, I ran to the mall immediately and purchased a new dress. However, it needed some work...I came across Joy's on google and drove straight there from the mall. This had to be the cutest alteration store I have ever been to! The beautiful flower decor on the walls and the bright colors of the curtains were so inviting! I was welcomed by a lady who had a big smile on her face (Tatiana) I needed the dress taken in from the waist and shortened about an inch from the length. I was assured that this was not a problem, and the best part was that I could pick it up in just a few hours! My new dress fit like a glove, thank you Tatiana and the nice lady who works for you! If you are in the Burlingame area, Joy's tailoring will be great for your altering needs! By the way, for those of you complaining about the price, you obviously don't appreciate the hard work it entails..not to mention considering my situation, the price was very affordable. read more

This is my first review ever and for good reason: This place made me look my best on my wedding day! I came here to get free alterations to my new Ludlow suit (compliments of J. Crew) and what I got was a perfectly fitting suit along with incredible service! Tatiana, the store owner, is a very sweet woman who took over the store from her mother and carries the tradition of excellent European style tailoring. My experience here was so great I brought another suit I had previously altered somewhere else for her to fix. She did an amazing job opening the neck of the jacket to bring the back closer in so the top was more fitting. Then she raised the inseam and narrowed the pant legs for a great slim fit look. She gave me exactly the look I wanted and I couldn't be happier. In terms of pricing, I'd say it's very reasonable considering you're getting a skillful, knowledgeable and professional tailor, which can be hard to come by. The rudest service I have ever gotten from a person called Tatiana. Suits for alteration which just remain as ill fitting as they were before despite a very expensive $80 a suit charge. No taking of responsibility at all by Tatiana. Had them altered perfectly at Nordstroms later for $25 apiece. This shop is a shameful sham. read more

I took a high end vivienne westwood men's suit in for major alteration. Very happy with the results! I went in twice for small tweaking but didn't mind. Perfection takes time. Expensive? YES, VERY, but if your paying $1k plus for a suite expect to pay some cash to make it fit like a glove. If your looking for Starbucks......this is not your place, but if your looking small fine coffee shop in Paris where the coffee is hand grinded and pressed, this is your place. read more
