JJ (pronounced GG) is amazing! I called her on Thursday afternoon in a panic. I had a two piece pantsuit that needed alterations by Tuesday. It was not easy, the top had a lot of structure and boning. JJ had me come in on Sunday to make sure the fit was ok so far, and she remeasured the hem as well. Thank you for a wonderful job done on both my denim jacket and my daughter's velvet dress. You did a beautiful job on both items. I bought my jacket with a raw cut/unfinished hem which of course will keep raveling. Now it has a finished hem with support inside (don't know the name but like a ribbon sewn all along inside seam for support). Also switched out straps on a velvet dress. Had to open dress and reattach. Fantastic and professional sewing work. Its a trade to be respected as takes a lot of time, patience and skill. read more

Had my jeans altered here and they came out great! I'm 4'11" and even with petite sized jeans I have a hard time finding ones that fit just right. I came here to get a dress and pants tailored. When I picked them up and tried them on, they were not tailored correctly, and she tried to charge me more to fix them. Why would you charge me to correct your error?! I still paid her, but I had to go somewhere else to get them fixed. I will never come here again and do not recommend this place at all! read more

Overpriced, bad customer service, and very rude. They also demand you pay before the service is done. I was also told by the owner that she has the experience and not me when I asked her to cut my dress a specific length. Although I told her multiple times the dress is very expensive and I don't want to risk it being cut too short (aka an irreversible error - once it's cut too short there's no undoing that), however she wouldn't understand and kept pushing her point that she knew better than me. I took multiple dresses and suits in for tailoring recently. My daughter had taken a bridesmaid's dress there last year for hemming AND altering and was charged $20...great deal! Now, same kind of dress this time with just hemming..$45. Come on, really? Based on her review of her first experience I gave them a try because the job they did was quite nice. One of my dresses was brand new and never worn and fresh from the store. I took it in, tried it on, she pinned it all up and good to go. Picked it up, and they didn't even encourage me to try it on to make sure it was good but I asked to try it on anyhow. Tried it on and although the fit was good there was a little black dot right on my boob area. I surely would have seen this prior. I took it off and mentioned it to her and she just acted like I didn't even just point it out, with me saying " this wasn't there". Kinda just ignored my comment. I hate conflict and knew it was going next door for it to be steamed anyhow ,and mentioned that to her, so I figure I would just get it totally cleaned to get the spot out. I had a conversation with the dry cleaner person and come to find out that JJ also owns that dry cleaners! You would have thought that at the very very least JJ Tailoring could have offered to pay the difference between steaming an now cleaning. Had her do a simple tie repair and make a pillow cover but they both turned out great. Only issue was they weren't ready on the day they were supposed to be - had to come back the following Monday. Not a big deal, because it's right down the street, but after three weeks it would have been better if they were ready on the promised date. Also, she gave me a bit of a hard time about not having the receipt and ticket number. Probably well deserved as I think she uses these to track items, so make sure you keep it and bring it back when you're picking up. I wound up having a picture of my receipt in my phone which worked fine. Overall great experience and will go back to her again for bigger tailoring jobs. read more

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I waited till the last minute to find a dress for a wedding this past weekend. It was Friday afternoon and the dress I found was 6 inches too long in heels, so I scrambled to find somewhere to hem it. After calling several places, JJ alterations answered! I asked if there was any way they could hem my dress and have it ready the next morning. The woman who answered told me she could do it, it would just be a bit extra. I raced over, and she prepped it for hemming. I had to pay upfront and it was quite pricey, but I was fine with it since it was my fault I waited so long to find a dress and had no other option. Expensive and poor customer service. When I came in the tailor was yelling at a woman. It was clear I needed to be firm with exactly what I wanted, which was just simple hems on a dress and jeans. They did a good job on my long dress. However, the pricing was structured oddly. She invoiced me for $60 ($45+$15), with $15 going towards something extra. I didn't understand for what, but I said no and so was estimated $45. When picking up, the slip underneath wasn't hemmed. This was the "extra" cost. Of course I would want both the inner and outer layers hemmed! It should've just been listed as 1 charge. So I paid the full $60 and she hemmed the inner layer on the spot. The jeans came out crooked. At this point I just wanted to get out and cut my losses and not get yelled at. read more

Apparently I lost quite a bit of weight lately, and because I don't wear suits all that often; I unfortunately came to this realization when I recently went and did a fancy evening out that with friends. I needed to get my black suit tailored so that I could keep myself from resembling a blocky 1980's Nintendo character. I never knew where to start with tailors, so thank goodness for yelp and all the reviewers feedback, that helped make the search process easier. Still because I was still new to this, and can't remember the last time I was at one, I was initially a little apprehensive. John who runs the place was really easy going and easily helped put my reservations at ease. He explained to me what he was planning to do to make the suit look better and was very professional and efficient. I brought a 2nd suit as well, and he was able to work some magic and make my suit fit perfectly to the shape of my body. I did recall a brief hesitation and awkward silence on my part when he mentioned he could make the slacks look better if he took my crotch out. After that awkward moment passed and I figured out what he was talking about, I left him with my suits and was told they would be ready next week. Upon my return a week later the suits were ready, and I must say I am a convert, John worked his magic and I can honestly say I loved how the suits looked, I was even more impressed by how the slacks fit, I've never felt more comfortable in them, needless to say I saw all the reviews that mentioned it was cash only, so that came to no surprise, what I was surprised by was how reasonable his prices seemed. And because I noticed so many yelpers mention he also does jeans, I am gonna bring them over have him work his magic on it too. read more

I referred all my coworkers to him and recently dropped off a large order which included some minor hole repairs, major denim hole repair, original hem work and altering the waistband two pairs of pants. John did an excellent job on all - esp in taking in the waistband, which cost $16 per pair, but now I have 2 pairs of pants I can wear comfortably again. John charged about $12 per "fix" from the hem job to the hole repairs. I would recommend taking small hole fixes elsewhere as they are $12 as well - a bit pricey (though if it's a delicate piece, I would take it to John as he does excellent, meticulous work). read more

I had ordered a Victorian era costume dress online and it fit everywhere with exception of being a little snug around the bust and arms. Caroline took me as a walk in, got a look at the dress, and had it ready for me in plenty if time for the function I was attending. I saw good reviews and bad reviews but honesty, I can't see why anyone didn't like this guy, even for new fashionable jeans and hemming. He nailed it on two pairs of Sevens for me and I'll happily return soon. Honestly, with this skinny jean phenomenon (loved Kobe's commentary on Russel Westbrook's "Steve Urkel" look and skinny jeans the other night), you need some room to breath which means alterations on a size that's too long. Worth the $15 bucks. Easily. And a quick turn around. They were don't by the time I got back from a long weekend trip. read more

John is such a great guy. He has done amazing job for a lot of my alteration, and sometimes even throw in minor fixes for free. When I asked for pants hemming, he saw the belt loop was hanging loose and he'd just fix it. However...THIS PLACE IS NOT THE SAME ANYMORE! The other day I went in to drop off some items for alteration, the lady told me John has retired and sold the shop to her. I thought aw that's too bad but I'll give it a shot. Turned out, she's now charging more, I had relative simple hemming and shortening that cost $20-25 a piece. It took way longer - two weeks!! And the job was mediocre. I have nothing against the new owner, and I didn't want to go look for a new place, but I am disappointed. The only good thing was that she takes credit cards. Then, while I went back to pick up, a customer walked in and asked for John. The lady told the customer John's on vacation. Customer asks for how long? Lady says oh like two months. Well...quite a different story from what she said to me last time, no? I won't be coming here again and I'm very sad that now I need to find a new place for alteration. Caroline altered my size 4 long gown to a size 0. The work done on the gown was quite complicated (e.g., moved the zipper, took it in on both sides, hem, pockets, pleating in front and back), and I am very happy with her work and how the dress turned out- it fits me like a glove! I will definitely be returning to Caroline for my alterations most especially when I find pieces that I just cannot pass up at sale prices. I found this place through Yelp. The workmanship was 5 stars, and I'd go back for that. I had two easy things that needing fixing, and he did a completely fine job. My only mild complaints were that he wanted 10 days to do the work (maybe all the Yelp fame is keeping him very busy) and it cost a little more than I expected (I may be spoiled from my previous seamstress, who was quite inexpensive). For such a simple job, the wait of 10 days, and the price of $18, I'd give him 3.5 stars. I was happy with the quality of the work and thought he was nice. read more

I'm fairly short so I always need some sort of alterations on my pants and JJ alterations was my only hope to save my jeans. I brought two pairs of jeans for original hems and I love the jeans even more! I wasn't sure where to go until I read reviews on Yelp, but he did a awesome job. Thank you, Yelpers!
