The scope of work was the removal and reinstallation of our existing solar panel system during a roof replacement. Estimate: Fair pricing. Communication: Quite lacking. It felt like we always had to be the ones initiating contact, even when it came time for them to collect their payment. Service and Workmanship: The removal took one day and the reinstallation took another. We didn't have any issues with the removal, but the reinstallation had several major flaws. Most notably, they reused the original flashings, which were bent and warped. Because of this, our brand-new shingles could be subjected to warping. We pointed out a few visibly damaged flashings at the corners, but we have no way of knowing the condition of the flashings hidden beneath the panels. Considering we just spent $20,000 on a new roof, they really should have asked if we wanted to replace the old flashings with new ones. Now, I am just hoping we don't end up with leaks in a few years. Cleanup: The second major problem was their lack of professionalism at the end of the job. When they finished, they simply walked off. They didn't clean up or pick up their trash, leaving debris all over the roof, roof gutter, and throughout the yard. Overall: I absolutely would not have hired this contractor if I had known how poor the workmanship and customer service would be.

Loved working with Sol Volta and would choose them again in a heartbeat…read more I had received almost 20 bids, but practically every company I spoke with produced a quote by looking at my property on Google Earth, as opposed to visiting my home in-person to get a realistic idea of what we were working with. I have a flat roof and a small amount of space to work with. It's further complicated by the presence of a AC/heat pump package unit, and there are taller homes/objects around my property that cast shadows. A majority of the folks at other companies I spoke with were in sales, solely interested in selling me on more panels without taking into account city code, setback limitations, environment around my home, etc. Gabriel was the only person to show-up on site. It was a huge relief that the person who was giving me a bid was also the engineer installing the setup. He suggested tilting the panels so I could optimize the amount of solar my home generated, completely offsetting my utility bill with room to spare so I can add an EV next year. While Sol Volta was not the cheapest bid I received, my preference is to get it right the first time, even if that includes spending a bit more upfront. With Gabriel and Sol Volta, I felt like I was in good hands. I had originally planned to add a battery solution later in the future (given it adds significant cost) but I liked Gabriel and Sol Volta so much that I decided to do it now and we went with a Powerwall 3 - it's awesome. Even once you find a handful of companies with good ratings, if you have a smaller job/project, others can become unresponsive after initial requests and waste your time. But Sun Craftsmen were great. Their tech Luis came out almost same day, figured out a good solution and had a reasonable quote soon after. He was able to come out within days and complete the work efficiently without issue. Would definitely look to them again with any bigger projects in the future.

Carlos came out did some rewiring told us to have a CAT 5 cable ran to have a direct connect for our app and then he would come back to ensure everything was working properly. Before the CAT 5 was installed the inverter stopped working again. I called Carlos, he said to give him a call the following week because he had a big job out of town. No problem. I totally understand. I tried to reconnect with him several times. Sometimes he picks up sometimes he doesn't. Last time we spoke we picked a tentative appointment date for him to come out. When I called him to confirm he wouldn't return my call. This has gone on for over a month and a half. Disappointed and a waste of time to say the least especially because he had other great reviews. The 4th year production shows improvement over the 3rd year as I kept the panels clean. However,…read moreit's still about 4.8% below the minimum guaranteed production (accounting 0.25% maximum annual panel degradation). It's 4 year in a row now the system failed to produce the minimum guaranteed production. AWS Solar chose to compensate for the shortfall again; we'll see what the 5th year production looks like. I suggested replacing some of the panels with the higher power ones to solve the issue, but I guess they want to see more data.

I hired AWS Solar to install solar panels on my home In May 2026. They completed the job a few…read moreweeks later. They did a very good jod. I am pleased. However, upon completeing the job, the project manager Tim Broughton called me, helped me log on to the Enphase app so that I could monitor the panels. After I confirmed that I was logged in, I was told that I was up and running And they were done. I was happy thinking I was now running on the sun. Wrong. So very wrong. I received my electric bill and astonished to see the electric portion was over $800.00. I called the power company and was told that the $130.00 application fee had not been paid. I notified Mr. Broughton and he immediatley saw that the bill for the application fee was paid and apologized for the error. Now the fun begins. I called the power company and asked when they would be out to install the proper meter for solar panels. I was informed that no application for a meter to be installed was on file and that I had to submit an application for interconnection. Hmm? No one mentioned anything to me about completing and application or that I had to contact the power company. I completed the PTO (Permission to Operate) form and based on the questions being asked and the information I needed to provide leads me to believe the Solar company was responsible for completing this form and sending the required fee. Ok. Lets not look to for someone to blame, lets just get the proper meter installed. I completed the PTO and submitted it. The power company came out a couple of weeks later and installed the a new meter. Onlyit was not a meter for solar panels. They installed the same new meter but it was the same meter as the meter I already had. I asked them why they didn't put on a solar meter and I was told that I needed to submit a PTO for a SOLAR METER, which is different. And by the way, they have a special person that installs solar meters and a special person to install regular meters. This seemed rather stupid to me. I ask the power comapany rep for the contact info for the solar department and he told he didn't know. I won't name the power company. LADwp. The one good thing the DWP rep did upon arriving to his office was to send an email to contact the proper department at the power company. I assumed he would have just gone about his business and let me flounder. I started on the second application which asked for job site photos. This was to me another indication that the solar installer was suppose to complete this form because Joe Citizen would not know what photos they were required. I did observe that periodically, the workers would take photos, but none were ever sent to me. Now I'm in the middle of August 2026 with fingers, legs, arms, eyes and anything else, maybe the dogs and cats, crossed hoping that this time I will get a meter. The bottom line is I would still recommend AWS SOLAR to anyone, but I'd have to caution them to make sure they get you connected and ALL fees are paid. Because I was dealing with the City of LA and being constantly sent to voice mail and waiting for call backs, this experience was horrendous.
