So let me say after years of driving by and never stopping, we finally made the stop today for dinner and glad we did! First, we were greeted at the door and the young lady was friendly and had a smile on her face. We were seated immediately and the waitress came over to take our order. We ordered the crab dip, salad and a cup of clam chowder, which was absolutely delicious. The dip came with a generous amount of tortilla chips. The dip was very tasty. For an entree, my wife had the crab leg dinner which comes with 2 clusters and 2 sides... I had the fried seafood platter which came with 2 pieces of flounder, 6 large fried shrimp and a crab cake with 2 sides as well. Very delicious!! And of course had to get dessert to go...I'm sure they will be good as well! 7 layer chocolate cake for the wife and 7 layer strawberry cake for me, Definitely will be back 5 out of 5 on the overall experience!! read more

We recently picked up a half bushel of crabs (at a great price!) along with some excellent sides. Definitely get the shrimp salad if they have it! The food was delicious. I ordered the flounder stuffed with crabmeat and it was topped with a cream sauce. It came with 2 sides of your choice. I had the broccoli salad and zucchini with tomatoes. I really enjoyed every bite of it. Our waitress was very polite and friendly, everyone that worked there was friendly. It's not a fancy place. You do not have to get dressed up. Always wondered and finally stopped. Needed outdoor seating as we are traveling in heat with our dog. Patio was lovely with wonderful singer tonight. Pet friendly was nice several taking advantage of this. Service was attentive. Varied menu from apps to sandwich's and many entrees. We opted for Salmon and greens dinner, which was excellent, and Pasta and seafood medley 'Queen Anne' which was fresh and creamy. Hubby thought it needed a tad more flavor (seasoning) but had no problems polishing it off . Considering some of the other reviews we were very happy with our meals! While driving I noticed Meding's Seafood off to the right and decided to stop by later for dinner. Upon arrival , the parking lot was full. When I entered it appeared to be a store where you could buy Fresh or cooked seafood and seating for dining in to the left. The gentleman that helped me stated there is heated outside seating with live music. I opted for that and went outside and ordered a Sierra Mist, fried shrimp, and fries. The food was okay. My complaint is more about the management response than about the food. I was with a group of 5 friends. I ordered a bowl of soup and realized quickly I didn't like it after 1 and half spoons of it. I immediately informed the waitress. No comment other than did I want something else. I said no, but she just left the bowl there. At some point later she asked if I wanted to take the soup home. I said no and asked her why would I want to if I didn't like it and since I really didn't eat it and there should be no charge. Someone from management then came out in a huff and defensive demanding to know why I didn't like the soup, and saying no one else has complained about the soup. Keep in mind I had only a spoon and a half out of the bowl so it's not like I was trying to get over on them. She told me it's not their policy to take things back that isn't the kitchen's fault. She must have seen the look on the faces of all sitting at our table when she said that. Because she quickly said she'll do it this time but not in the future. We stopped by after hiking in Prime Hook. This place reminded us of the old time seafood places we grew up with. The portions were very generous. I ordered the fried shrimp and added a broiled crab cake. The shrimp were plump with very light breading. The crab cake was full of lump crabmeat and very little filler. Cocktail sauce was nice and spicy! Hubby ordered the fish & chips and was presented with a platter full of fish and fries. Three nice pieces of cod. Poor Service, Public Disrespect, and No Accountability I had a very bad experience at Meding's Seafood in Delaware -- one that reflects a broader pattern of poor customer service echoed in reviews across TripAdvisor, Google, and Restaurantji. I had phoned in an order for 1.5 dozen jumbo crabs and 1.5 dozen large/extra-large crabs. When I arrived, I introduced myself to a young man at the register. He said he couldn't find my order. There was an order for someone named "Mike," but it was for a dozen jumbo crabs and some shrimp -- not what I had placed. A middle-aged man took over (who I believe was the manager or owner). I told him what I had ordered. He said they didn't have that order and that they only had a dozen jumbo crabs available -- not 1.5 dozen. I explained again what I had ordered and how the woman who took my call had gone to the back to check inventory before confirming it. He responded bluntly: "You didn't order them from here." As a couple of female staff members tried to identify who may have taken the order (possibly the hostess), I replied, "I hear you" to the man. At that point, the he snapped: "You obviously don't, because you keep cutting me off." I responded that I did understand what he was saying, but that he was also cutting me off. That's when he escalated and said, "That's enough, cowboy. I don't need your business. You can leave now -- and don't let the door hit you in the ass as you get out." I told him, "No problem," and left. Consistent Patterns Across Review Platforms After this experience, I looked up reviews -- and unfortunately, my situation isn't unique. Across TripAdvisor (3.6), Google/Restaurantji (3.1), and others, customers frequently report: Rude or dismissive treatment Confrontations with management A lack of accountability when orders are wrong or delayed There are multiple reviews describing the same tone of open hostility and defensiveness from management, often during situations that could have been easily resolved with professionalism and courtesy. Mini crab cakes with Cajun aioli sauce= quite tasty. Perfect portion. Sauce tasty too. But more like a paste lol. The fried seasoned shrimp also delish. Not a lot of breading on them, but ok. Medings is a nice family owned seafood store and restaurant that for me is on the way to the beaches. To others its A local institution that's been in business for many years that people trust to get fresh seafood or have a nice dinner or lunch. Usually I stop on the way to the beaches for something fresh to cook that night. On my last visit in November i dined in and had Tender juicy oysters with a side of fresh spinach and broccoli salad. The entrees are reasonably priced. IMHO the Soups are expensive. But they are great so I will occasionally splurge on a takeout soup. I've been stopping by here for years. Don't pass it up. All the seafood is fresh as they are also a fishmonger. In fact, I'm under orders that if I every pass here I'm obliged to cart home a quart of their cream of crab soup. I usually order the crab daddy burger, angus patty with crab melt broiled on top. Then is usually grab some smoked ahi and oysters to take with me. One note, do upgrade to the fries with the crab daddy. I'm sorry for being drastic, but when you pay $200 for a party of 5 and 3 are kids....yes I'll own there was 2 adult drinks with this bill, but come on. You can't really miss Meding's if you're driving through on your way to/back from the beach. We finally made a pit stop here for a meal when traffic was a little backed up while heading back to Philly and we weren't disappointed by the food. We ordered the clam chowder, fish & chips and the "party of 3" which had the jumbo clam strips, fried shrimp & crab puppies. The clam chowder, fried shrimp & crab puppies wasn't much to write home about but the fish and chips and the jumbo clam strips were definitely good. They have both outdoor and indoor seating and they have a seafood market inside. Customer service is a little wonky but not terrible by any means. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again but it's a nice place to grab a meal if you're in the area. read more
