Very impressed. I've been loyal to a competitor (Jamaican Jerk Choice) for years but they aren't in their place anymore so I came down the street to try this place. I'll never go back down the street again. This food is delicious and more flavorful. I'm giving it 4 stars just because the plantains are too charred and the cabbage was a little too soggy. All in all this beats the hassle of the nasty attitudes, no bread having and can't stay consistent with location of Jamaican Jerk Choice. I'll be back. Probably tomorrow for some oxtails. read more

DO NOT waste your time or money at this place! Every other place was closed. Let's start with them not having red beans, rice, callallo, and cabbage. We wanted to eat here due to hunger and then take an order to go for someone else. We were told we couldn't do that. We had to take everything at one time. OK. Fine. Why have we still been waiting for our food for over an hour and a half? Every one that has come after us or called an order has received it. Each time, it's a few minutes. Did they fly back to Jamaica for Maw Maw to cook it? A young lady ordered chicken taco and that took so long that she demanded her money back. Her daughter's shorts were filthy after leaning on their security door. The ceiling fan is disgusting. I should have went with my first mind. Never again! One of the worst places to go. Walk in no one is at the window. When the guy does show up he literally lays his head down like he didn't want to deal with me. I place my order. My Mother places her order. No customer service. I ordered jerk catfish lunch. The lowest quality canned string beans, and the cabbage was not seasoned. My mother ordered Tilapia lunch special, Okra and cabbage. The menu doesn't state it's fried okra. The fish was so over cooked it looked like jerky. She took it back. Truly impressive place for what is a hole on the wall. The place is suffocatingly delicious. Its super smokey inside but the smell will make you salivate uncontrollably. The food is as good as it smells. I will definitely try out more jerk Jamaican places in the future. This is my first time eating this sort of cuisine. Update: So I ventured to a few more places. Why spend your money to be disappointed in the end? I usually like the jerk chicken tacos.When I ordered a jerk chicken salad it had something hard like grit, bones, or egg shell not sure what it was. When I took half my salad back they acted like they were going to replace it or give my money back. I told them I didn't have time to wait I'd come back later to get the new salad. Bad decision! When I came back I was told they couldn't do anything even though they took half my salad before. They told me the owner on the phone said they couldn't make me half a salad nor could they give me half my money back. Honestly why promise good service only to disappoint a regular customer when they return to make good on your promise. This is the absolute worst jerk restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life!!!! I ordered a whole jerk chicken, I was told they only had dark. I said that's fine. Mind you it's 1pm on a Sunday. As I open the taco and in an attempt to remove what I didn't want (onions), I see that either some of the jerk seasoning is moving or something is definitely amiss. It was the latter. I've been eating at this spot for MONTHS. I love the food so much that I hit it up at least once a week. BUT today was the worse experience, primarily because of the new black chick that's working the register. First off, I called my order in... TWO Jerk Tacos. I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. I show up 15 minutes later and my order is not ready. Okay, no problem. There were two other people ahead of me, and they received their order. Apparently, a customer called ahead before me and ordered like, 24-30 dinners. Okay, fine. So I waited and waited and waited damn near 30 minutes for two tacos while the lone cook prepared 25-30 dinners. I asked the black female cashier how much longer for my order and she REFUSED to answer me, she even rolled her eyes!! Like seriously, who does that? So I continue to wait.. and wait, meanwhile, another customer walks in and places an order and receives his chicken within 5 minutes. So again I ask about my two tacos, and again she gives me attitude and refuses to answer and refuses to issue me a refund when I ask for it. It's apparent at this point that she hates her job and she's miserable, because why all the attitude? I didn't give her one, but now I'm annoyed that she won't at least acknowledge me. After I explain that I can't wait another 20 minutes for two tacos, I'm on my lunch break after all, she gives me even more attitude while explaining that she's "not a cook" so she doesn't know what's going on in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Jr's is quite a small space, so I ask her why she simply can't check in with the cook about my order... again, she refuses to answer me and rolls her eyes. Now, for an employee to act so rude on the job and who displays such poor customer service skills, this tells me the following: either she's a family member and she knows her behavior will not be reprimanded, or she's having sex with the owner so she knows her behavior will not be addressed, either way, Jr's has lost a loyal customer, because of HER. Even as I type this, my brother is asking me why am I on Yelp, and when I reply and say "I'm leaving a review about Jr's" he replies without hesitation, "Must be that black girl."... Ha! Even he has experienced how awful she is.... with her nasty weave. Seriously how can you be rude AND rock a bad weave. Bad combination. Get it together, Jr's. They were so tough and had no flavor...the cabbage was bland and the yams had strings...My husband got a Beef Patty...It was hard and dry...he also got the half slab of ribs which had a lot of fat on them...it's a Jamaican Restaurant directly across the street that has been there for years and their food is much better...JR's on Ashland needs new cooks! Yes, they are slow. Yes, customer service could use a few tweeks. I smile and giggle and I always get a polite response back. I've even had fun speaking a little broken "patois" with them! Yah Mon!! The Jerk chicken is perfect. Never overly spicy at all. The jerk sauce is always on the side. I don't tolerate spicy heat very well and, for me, it's just right. Oxtails, great! Jerk taco, great!
