Came here for dinner with a few families from baseball (probably 20 all together). Wasn't too busy so we were able to get seated pretty quickly. Place was very clean and had several seating areas apart from the bar, including outdoor. Everyone enjoyed their food but the service was sub par. I have no idea what the issue was but drinks took quite long to get and the food was horribly slow. They were bringing out a couple dinners every 10 minutes or so. They even handed out checks before some of us got food. It made for an awkward night as most of us were sitting there watching others eat. Place has potential but they need to figure the service side to keep repeat business. If the food and drinks were delivered in a timely manner would have given them 5 stars. read more

Went to J's based on a local friend's recommendation. We had several requests, each was met so cheerfully & very helpfully. Candice took great care of us. Everything was prepared beautifully, all the ingredients were clearly fresh and top quality. The Dill Pickle soup was an unexpected find, very comforting. The ambiance was warm all around. Went on a Thursday night. The ambiance and decor was superb. That's where the positives end. Poor service. Sub par food, except for the fries. Ordered a steak, and it was really over cooked, with no flavor. Got several orders wrong for our group. Had to physically go to the bar for drink service. 2 hours ago New We came in at 1:30 today, during a break between baseball games that were taking place right up the road. Unfortunately had to walk out due to waitstaff being far too busy swearing and fighting with each other over the annoyance of which one had to take our table all within an earshot. Waitstaff cost this establishment and their owners easily $200 in revenue for our table of 7. Would never recommend. Had to have some cheese curds for National Cheese curd day - and J's doesn't disappoint. Curds are lightly battered , crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. I always like that they serve it with warm marinara or ranch. For supper - I had the southwest salad with chicken. It is delicious - I highly recommend. We used to go here quite often before 2020. not so much anymore, customer service has disappeared, unless you're a local business owner or a member of the government who Jay can suck up to. Our last visit was ONLY because we sold our house and our realtor gave us a gift card. My wife and I decided to give it another chance, and we're once again severely disappointed. We were sat at a table and had our drink order taken. we received our drinks after ordering our meal. We sat next to the bar, Jay sitting at the bar sucking up to a local insurance agent. I had 3 beers after ordering, before I had to ask where our salads were. "Oh, I'll be right back with those" said our server. so, wait and wait. Nothing. we asked a second time, "it's coming" server says. Jay still kissing a$$ at the bar. After four beers, our meal shows up. At this point we asked about our salad again. We get rolled eyes. We began with our meal. I had a pork ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. the food was so cold, the mashed potatoes wouldn't melt softened butter and the pork was red. Long story short don't go here unless you're someone important so Jay can do some butt snorkeling. He may like it if you bring cocane with you too. Can't review the food. My wife and I went to J's on a recommendation from a family member. We came in around 5:30pm. There were about 5 people at the bar and about 5 tables were occupied with parties of 2 or 4. We were seated immediately, and then ignored for 25 minutes before we got up and left. During the time we were waiting different members of the waitstaff stopped by the tables adjacent to us, but never even acknowledged that we were there. ‍ We are out of towners, but are in the reedsburg area often, and will not be stopping in to J's again. Too bad, very nice looking place inside, but I think the staff needs to be trained on customer service. They must pay them very well there, since it seems nobody wanted to cover another table. Let a $14.00 tip (at least) walk out the door. read more

I came with my grandparents on a Friday for the fish fry. I had called to verify what time it started. I was happy to know it started at 4pm. We arrived and there was only one table of people, but the place was full by the time we left. The service is severely lacking. But like everyone else I guess it's short staffing. There was a sign on the door. It took forever to get our drinks... like 15 minutes. My grandpa was getting pretty upset about that. Another snafu was that our salads didn't come out before the food. That's a big no-no. Otherwise, the food was excellent, atmosphere was nice. We were seated by the pretty fireplace. Drinks were good, when they finally came out. They serve some very interesting local liquors, which is a nice touch. I recommend it, just be aware of the service issues. read more

We were a bigger group but waited 30 minutes to put in our drink orders, waited 50 minutes to put our food orders in, and sat for 2 hours before our food came. did not get refills until we asked and our orders came out wrong. there was a produce sticker in with our cooked veggies. they were obviously understaffed so our waitress was snappy and running around. read more

My family and I came here for Christmas eve this year and got a lovely table we reserved in the back of the restraunt. It was nice to be at a large table together and a bit of out the way of the other guests because we had small children with us. I'd been here a few times over the years and had a good experience. The menu has changed a bit and we were surprised with the variety of options - there was something for everyone. I had the Ahi Tuna salad appetizer as my main dish. It was fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the Prime Rib special with baked potato and veggies. Both were very good and we enjoyed sharing. My dad ordered the Pork Ribeye special and that was a crowd favorite - we all had to have a bite - super juicy. Love that they have local beers on tap and a range of prices. Having read about his passion for his restaurant in the menu and considering it's clear to me from his message that he cares about the customer experience, I think he deserves that much. The food here is really good and next time we're out we'll visit again. The service not so much. 6:00 we arrive and are seated. The restaurant is not very busy and appears to be adequately staffed. 6:15 young couple next us are seated 6:25 At this point we have been sitting for 25 minutes without anyone approaching us to be served. We order everything we want to order including drinks and entrees. The young couple who arrived 15 minutes after us have already ordered and are finishing their appetizers. 6:35 we finally receive our drinks. No sign of food. 7:05 Young couple who arrived 15 minutes after us have finished eating and are paying their check. Still no sign of our food 7:10 food finally arrives. Despite our assertion that the food will be cold it was actually hot and delicious. There is absolutely no excuse for how long it took to order and receive our drinks and food. The server appeared frazzled and outwardly stressed despite what appeared to be a steady but not overly busy Friday night. J's... Do better. read more

We came here recently following a hockey game and had a delicious meal! The ambiance is comfortable. They have a massive kid's menu and a respectable dinner/lunch menu for the adults. I had the chicken Caesar wrap which was served with amazing fries that were both sweet and salty. Stopped in on Sunday after a basketball tournament about 1:00. Waited about 5 min to be seated, 4 people at the bar, and 2 tables full of diners. We're 6 of us getting lunch. Took 15 min for the waiter to come over and ask what we wanted for drinks. Took 10 min for our 4 sodas to come. Two mixed drink cocktails took almost 30 min to show up. Food showed up about 15 min after the mixed drinks came. Food was spectacular! I mean everyone was truly excited about the food, hot, fresh, very appealing presentation. Just somewhat sad that somewhere that makes amazing food, and even better drinks has service that is just blah. I'm a regular here, and for good reason. Want good food in Reedsburg? You come here. The Friday fish fry is always on point, they cook their steaks and burgers perfectly, and the pork ribeye is fantastic too. Saturday's prime rib special is really popular, so you may want to get there early. Not telling you how to live your life, just a suggestion. Lighter fare is available with sandwiches and salads. The fries don't even need ketchup. Want good service in Reedsburg? You come here. The staff here rocks. As many times as I've been here I've not once been forgotten, given subpar service, or had anything aside from a good experience. So far as the prices go, you get what you pay for. The portions are really good for what you pay, so if you have a problem with them the issue is with you being a cheap doofus. The restaurant itself is really nice inside, and they have a decent enough beer selection, which changes pretty frequently. All in all, I recommend you eat here. read more

We spent an afternoon at J's between a funeral & a Celebration of Life tribute. I lived in the Reedsburg area in the early Seventies, and there were few choices for dining or eating. J's was a pleasant surprise. The decor was "Grub Pub" perfect and the food offerings tasty and filling. What was truly special was the service. I didn't get our bartender's name, but he used to own a bakery in Reedsburg. On a day my family needed comfort and emotional substance, he was accommodating, warm and helped us get through a difficult few hours. I thank him and wish J's was around when I taught at the Reedsburg Middle School. read more

So, we have been to J's a bunch of times, but no more. Got there at 7:15pm tonight and the place was hopping. Go to the hostess stand and a woman says someone will be with us in a minute. A few minutes later, a young woman comes out and apologizes but tells us that they are closing. It is now 7:20pm, the restaurant and bar are packed, and their posted hours are that they are open until 8pm. Don't know what is going on, but was completely gobsmacked. The sign out front says "Open". If you are closing at 7:15pm, post that and turn the sign off. Seriously. Went over to Cancun where we were seated immediately. Food is fantastic and they clearly are appreciative of the business. Not sure what is going on at J's, but you lost loyal customers tonight. read more

People at tables all around us were seated, git their food and were completely finished with their meals BEFORE we even got our drink orders. It took almost 1 1/2 hours after ordering before we got our meal of sandwiches and an order of the Friday night fish fry. My advise is go for the food IF you aren't in a hurry and hungry. So far so good. I'm reviewing as I go along. Even though they've been short-staffed, the wait staff is friendly and attentive. I looked at their menu before deciding. The decor is cozy, with large, dark wood trim and a fireplace. However, it's not a stuffy place. There's a little girl running around at full speed, but a don't mind because I like kids. They're not stingy with the brandy in the Old Fashioned. The salad is standard enough, with mixed greens, a couple of grape tomatoes and one raw onion ring. I went with the blue cheese dressing. The menu is varied enough, but silly me already had my quota of beef and pork for the week. I chose the chicken Rockefeller, and it was delicious. The crust was good, and how can you go wrong with cheese and bacon? I missed the artichoke and spinach. I'm not complaining bc instead the chicken came with sautéed vegetables: snow peas, broccolI, red bell pepper, and squash, which were cooked perfectly. The substitution is probably healthier anyway. I would have trimmed the stem side of the pea pods. The garlic mash was good, too, surprisingly sweet. The sweet part is not a knock bc I'm Filipino. The serving sizes are very generous. I chose the blueberry cheesecake. It is creamy, and the blueberry flavor greeted me right away. The chef's dish presentations are as inviting as the staff. This is Wisconsin, and I have nothing against pubs, but J's is definitely not your average pub. Next time, I'll eat vegetarian for a week, and then dive into one of those steaks!
