During a recent visit, I tried to purchase two items; one was unavailable in-store. The associate offered me a free shipping card with a code to order the item. I thankfully made it a point to make sure the free shipping code actually worked while attempting to make the purchase via the Ulta App before leaving the store, and that's when I discovered it was expired--dated January 2026, while it was now the end of April 2026. The fact that these cards had been expired for nearly four months stood out to me as extremely alarming--no one had noticed until I flagged it. There were apparently no other shipping cards to provide me with and so I departed the store after 15 minutes of wasted time of them trying to sort this out only for them to tell me that there is nothing they could do. I contacted customer service upon leaving the store. After my first call, the associate disconnected the line. On a second call, another associate kept repeating internal processes, but eventually proposed a solution: I would pay for shipping upfront, and then they would reimburse me after the fact. Unfortunately, this is not isolated; previously, a few months prior I went to the store because a product I was looking for was listed as in-store, but the associate told me I couldn't buy it--even though it was right there on the shelf. I verified availability online, and still, I was misled. She stated that although it was on the shelf it was erroneously placed there and listed online as in store but could not be sold until a couple days out and that I could return when it is available for purchase or simply purchase online. These repeated failures--both in-store and with customer service--reflect a troubling pattern. In a market with competitors like Amazon and Sephora, Ulta has been falling drastically short. There has been a noticeable shift where basic customer expectations are simply not being met. I tend to go to Ulta because it is very close to my home but will not be returning as my first option/ go to any longer. I made this same commitment after my experience at Best Buy and I have only been there 1x in 20 years to buy something worth $6! read more

This one star review is entirely for unpleasant management. Sales associates have been helpful and store is clean and usually fairly empty so better to shop at than some other locations. However twice I have had issues with returns that associates have asked their manager for assistance with and she could not be more unpleasant. Patronizing, bad attitude and unwilling to give store credit for something the employee then gave me credit for (so clearly a personal choice on her part, not to mention terrible customer service). read more

Wanted to take a second to praise Steph at the Connecticut Ave location. She was sooo helpful. She was super patient with me during the skin match. My skin was a lot of in betweens on a few brands but we finally found the right one and she was just as excited as I was to find the right match hourglass. This location is the worst! One time I came at opening and saw two other people waiting outside because they don't open exactly on time. Another time I wanted a particular product that was sold out online so I searched what store in DC has it and it listed this store as having it in store (not a limited stock, but fully in stock). I came here and didn't see it on the shelf so I asked a male employee and showed him on my phone that it was in stock here, he lazily looked through a drawer and said they didn't have it. So I walked out, ordered it on my phone for pickup and voila hours later surprise my order was ready! What a waste of my time to make a separate trip back! In August during the Friends and Family sale when employees get 150 coupons to share with friends I asked an employee if she had an extra one and she replied that no she only got 15. They got 15 physical codes. So I asked another employee and she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. Both were so unfriendly and made me feel awkward for just asking. read more

I just went to this store and purchased the Summer Fridays Brown Sugar lip butter balm. I got home and opened the package and it is the cherry lip gloss and it's USED! This is so unsanitary and disgusting. I called the store and was not apologized to, but they told me I could carry out a regular return. I think this is such a health hazard and really makes you look into the practices that Sephora goes into. read more

Thank goodness for the little Sephora collection eye shadow palettes! They were sparkly and perfect. Beware! Sephora discriminates against older women. I made an appointment for a makeup consultation 11/30/23. When i arrived after several minutes I was told I could not be accommodated. I was in shock! I later received this email Lynn, we all have our flaws(sending this to a 69 year old woman) due to unexpected circumstances we've cancelled Full Face and we hope we can make it up to you at your next visit to Sephora. I had a wonderful experience with Sephora. I'm so grateful for the small eye shadow palettes from the Sephora line! They sparkled and were flawless. Two weeks ago, I was offered advice, and a consultant helped me choose a new concealer shade that would work for my very pale face. I cherished the handy location. I got great help from the customer care representative with everything from product selection to full face makeup. I like this location as it's nearby, they have helpful workers with good recommendations, and their online ordering is fulfilled quickly which is nice when I don't want to spend time shopping in store. WOW, thank goodness for this Sephora. I used to go to the location near Metro Center during my lunch break, but that particular Sephora is known for being very small and they seem to get certain releases or collections a bit later than other locations. This new Sephora is not only metro accessible, but also huge! The employees were courteous and kind, without being overbearing or pushy. I had no trouble asking employees for help and was able to get foundation samples that lasted for several days. I highly recommend that you get samples from the store before purchasing a new foundation so you can test it out and make sure the shade and formula work well for you. It's better than buying a new foundation and having to return it, since Sephora will have to dispose of the product afterwards. It is less wasteful (and free) to get a few samples! I have been here a few times since opening, but I already prefer this location over others in the area. Definitely stop by if you are looking for a large selection of cosmetics or skincare products. read more

I've been in this place a few times now, and i've NEVER been asked if i need help finding anything, despite walking around cleeearly trying to find something. Workers walk right by! I know sometimes stores get busy, and workers are busy helping other people. But nope, this was just workers standing around gossiping and causally walking around. Wasn't busy at allll. I saw at least two other women who were also looking for help. Obviously we CAN go ask someone to help us...but i wanna know why their customer service is so bad that they cant pick up on an obvious hint when a customer needs assistance.
