Their smoothie was certainly the smoothest I have ever had - the ice and fruit were blended into tiny, even particles, which had a great mouthfeel. However, given their healthy image, I was surprised at the sugar shock that my smoothie gave me. HATE overly sweet smoothies. Plus, their board doesn't list every ingredient (since I"m positive there must have been an unlisted sweetener) so I didn't have the option of telling them not to include it. That was a big turnoff. UPDATE: Ok, I don't know what happened the first time around, but have since returned many times for their juices, and they are the BOMB! Hail to Kale is my go-to, and absolutely delicious (you don't taste the kale, I swear), and Supa Dupa Green is just green enough so it's drinkable, but you will definitely feel pretty healthy afterwards. The Peaches and Dreams smoothies is amazingly creamy (probably the frozen coconut, mm mm good). The roasted red pepper soup is yummy too, but my only gripe about it is that it has absolutely zero texture, and seems like it is just thickened juice, broth, and dairy. Wish it was more like a pureed veggie bisque. But other than that, I have no complaints and will continue to be a regular - the staff is lovely and the juice is almost freshly pressed and and speedy. Nice and accommodating staff, even when busy -- which is often, given how small the place is and the busy neighborhood. I had the 1st drink choice (antioxidizer?) and the fresh mangosteen really made the drink nice (I added kale and parsley, which you don't taste over the fruit). This is one of the better juice establishments. Although it is relatively expensive (expect to pay $10+ for a smoothie or bowl), the quality and quantity justify the price. I usually get the acai bowls, which are really, really good! They are usually pretty quick too - I'm always impressed for how fast and seamless the staff works. Drinking my first Juice Generation smoothie was life changing. I can never go back to other smoothie shops. I am addicted. I can't even tell you how many of their delicious delicacies I have had the pleasure of consuming. There is no better option. In addition to there mouthwatering smoothies, I have also tried a few of their sandwiches, which are also utterly tasty. I actually like to pickup a smoothie for breakfast and then take a sandwich to go for lunch later. And it goes without saying that theses smoothies make excellent pre and/or post workout meals! On the rare occasion that I get a fruit smoothie, this is the place I come to. Nothing but real fruit goes into these carby delights. Although I did notice that they tend to thicken most of their drinks with banana rather than yogurt. Nothing with yogurt on the menu. I guess they consider that healthier. I don't particularly like fruit drinks that are too thick so I opt for anything without banana. I tried the Peaches and Dream smoothie that used coconut milk and it was pretty tasty. A lot of these "healthy" smoothies tend to have as much calories and carbs as some milkshakes and just as much sugar, despite it being natural sugar. Given the choice, I'd choose the milkshake over the smoothie but sometimes you just need that vitamin kick. What's great about this place is that you can get the natural vitamins from the fruit and you can have them add a supplement boost for a little more bang for the buck. Now if only we could add a vitamin boost to a milkshake. I'd be all in on that. read more

I've been puzzled by the perpetual line at Juice Generation for a very long time, and I decided to find out for myself why. Prices here are high - $7-$10 for a drink, and $9-$10 for a "bowl". I got a coco acai bowl, which I initially thought might have chocolate but turned out to be coco-NUT. Sigh. (As an aside, none of the blended drinks contain chocolate. That makes me sad, but I guess it adds too many calories.) Although I found the coco acai bowl good, I didn't think it was comeback-worthy, especially because of the price. But then just now, craving struck. And I found myself craving a blended berry, shredded coconut and sliced banana top bowl - with no chocolate. I must admit that I am a complete sucker for Juice Generation. I honestly crave their acai bowls ALL the time. My favorite is the supa dupa greens: blended acai with greens, banana, almond milk and topped with bananas and healthy granola. Delicious. I also really love their green juice. My top three items there are: Aloha Acai - It's cold, filling, has a delicious mix of flavors; Peanut Butter Split with Almond Milk - if you like peanut butter and banana, you'll like this. It keeps me full for hours and is so delicious; Get Ur Green On - I did a several day juice cleanse a while back, and since that day I haven't particularly enjoyed juices as much. This review is strictly for the acai bowls. As most have mentioned, this place is overpriced. But honestly, what smoothie shop isn't? I've yet to try a smoothie because of this. It's hard for me to justify spending $10 on a (rather small) smoothie I can easily make at home. So instead I always go for an acai bowl. Plus, I feel like a bowl can constitute as a meal replacement better than a smoothie. Anyways, I recommend the Coco Acai Bowl. It has just the right amount of coconut to make you feel like you're eating on a tropical island. The PB Acai Bowl is also definitely worth trying if you're in the mood to indulge. The 105th and Broadway location is FINALLY open. The pomegranate berry blast is delish. The cold warrior is the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth, but it sure does zap colds. Prices are not as insane as lots of other smoothie joints in NYC, but still high. The guys who work there are friendly and have either been very well trained or really like their jobs. Whenever I've been overdoing it on pasta or junk food, a juice from here always makes me feel better. Like others have already recommended, I'm a fan of the supa dupa green and the daily detox. When I get the sniffles in winter, a Dr. Bombay always hits the spot. My only complaint is that Juice Generation has built quite a following so lines can get long at times but it's generally worth the wait. I love this place. It's a no frills, get in and out quickly, get to the point kinda place. There's barely any standing room and the place gets crowded at lunchtime and around dinner time but I'm not looking to hangout in a juicery so who cares. Their juices are so fresh, made right in front of you, there's a huge display of the veggies/fruit they are actually using in your juice in the center of the store so you can actually see how much veggies/fruit theyre putting into your drink so it's great. I love their pineapple smoothie (pineapple, banana, and strawberries)-- very refreshing. I am not a fan of protein drinks but theirs is decent. It fills you up and they put real fresh fruit in there so youre not just tasting that chemical protein powder crap in your mouth. The people who work there are very efficient, funny (the handful of times Ive been there, the same guy asks me if I want the drink to stay or to go... me being the idiot that I am, I always reply "to go" then realize how stupid I sound right after that (it's all made in to go cups) as he's laughing at me, haha), and even if there's a long time, I'm always out of there within 2-3 minutes. Juice generation has great acai bowls and super bomb smoothies. I go there almost every day to get my juice fix. My only gripe, that cost 2 stars, are the paper straws. I understand being environmentally conscious and biodegradable blah blah blah but there has to be a better way than paper straws in a smoothie. Are we going to start drinking hot soup with paper spoons? The straw bend and dips almost immediately, the texture is uncomfortable, it feels like it is dissolving in my mouth, and I can't imagine what it would be like if I leave my smoothie out a little longer than normal. It makes me feel like I have to chug it so this paper straw doesn't disintegrate before I can finish my smoothie. Otherwise, great place. :D read more
