Just tried to get a smoothie here - walked in and there was a thick smell of marijuana in it. Not a strike against it just yet, but it was just like - whoa very smelly. THEN, we are standing at the counter thinking about what we want but we notice no one was there. At least, we thought no one was there. So we started walking out and we notice a guy standing behind the counter with his Beats headphones on, back turned to us and playing on his phone. We looked at each other and we're like, nope! What the heck happened to customer service! It barely exists in so many of these chains nowadays! But we ended up at Joe & the Juice on Lex and 62nd and they were very responsive and professional. I'm on a stupid menopause diet (it's amazing and changed my life, restoring my body to its lifelong state, but I never imagined I would eat this way!) so I have been going to Juice Press since my return to the city. I was always a fan of the Nurse Greenie or whatever that light green smoothie is called. And the Egyptian Lentil soup is heaven. But a lot's changed in the last year or so. They really amped up the vegan snacks. I was happy to see those Vegan Robb puffs I buy in Santa Barbara. The brussels sprouts are my favorite but they sell the beet and the cauliflower, plus some "dragon" spicy version. I tried the new pea broccoli soup on Monday. It's got loads of healthy ingredients, plus 17 grams of protein. I have no issues getting protein as I eat eggs, chicken, fish, tofu, and beef. The flax cracker tubes look like something you feed a horse. Let's just say when I posted on Instagram, I got comments from friends: "That doesn't look too appetizing" and "WTF is that?!" Also, sad emojis on FB. But it was hot (on a frigid day), filling and edible. I've had a change of heart re food. Is this healthy stuff as good as French onion at a fine restaurant? Obviously not. But food is fuel and that's how I look at this eating regime. Next time I will try to tomato (new) or the black bean (though I've been off beans for some time). The juices were always good, but I never tried the acai bowl, as they tend to be high in calories. This had flax and chia plus quinoa puffs that simulated a dry cereal (I haven't eaten dry cereal in decades: it's fattening and not filling). I'm cooking most of my own meals--I know, in one of the greatest dining cities in the world, I'm making my own food---but when busy, Juice Press is a good option. I don't know why the reviews are so negative. The staff is terrific and they all really believe in this way of life/eating. I have a Ninja and make my own smoothies so I won't be spending 10-12 bucks on smoothies, but I liked that bowl and their soups are mostly great. (The ones in the deli case are better than the new ULTRA-healthy ones, though I just tried that pea broccoli, which I won't repeat.) read more

I get an acai or green bowl almost every Friday on my way to work as a treat for the week. Every time it's the same and really good. No complaints. I try to keep the bowls low cal which is nice because you know how many calories everything is and can dictate what you want in your bowl. You get a choice of adding 3 things on top of your bowl and the calories are on the menu next to the item so it's nice. Juice press has great quality juices that I enjoy drinking; actually cannot live without them! Lucky 7 is my ultimate fave! If you are not into juices, definitely go with this one as a first try; you probably will think you're on a tropical island as you sip away. I've even tried to make this juice on my own but it doesn't come close. $11 for a juice, I know it's steep but it's just so worth it. Always have experienced friendly cashiers/servers at the JP locations I've been to including this one. The dirty detox is $6 which isn't too bad. The charcoal and lemon is strong in this one but it gives a good detox just like the bottle says. Hint hint. The greens, doctor green and greens plus earth are good post workout drinks! read more

You def feel guilt free when you eat here. They make a good raw falafel salad with secret sauce. I also enjoy the truffle protein salad as well. I like the location of this location. Much more convenient for me (until they finish building the new Midtown East one). It's bigger than the other one I went to, and also much busier, so that might explain that less-than-favorable-service reviews on this page. It was packed! I thought the people working there were nice though. And the samples are definitely a plus. While most of the juice really is delicious.... the Good Weed is probably one of the grossest things I've tried to drink. Liquid tahini, with vanilla? Really? Only started to go here after a bad experience at Organic Avenue. I used to be a huge Organic Avenue fan until I saw the amounts of sugar that was put into their juices and all these fake claims they make about bio-degradable bottles what not (anything recyclable over a 7 is considered not recyclable) Juice Generation is a great go to spot, friendly service and there is no catch here. The amount of sugar that goes into this is all natural unlike most places. Even the juice itself tastes very different. Why is it that the cayenne even tastes fresher here than anywhere else? Oh because they really are honest and because they really want you to drink the stuff for your benefits not to pocket the money for their own benefits. Sometimes I have Jamba (high in calories), sometimes store-bought (Myoplex or Orgain--which is healthiest but low in protein), and Energy Kitchen (best shake in taste and calories, but has splenda or some sugar replacement). In any case, I was eager to try a new protein smoothie place, so I went here and had the PROTEIN KNOCK-OUT. 42g of protein impressed me, and that's about it. Huge rip-off and here's why: for $8.60 I got a banana, a shot of myoplex powder, and some strawberries. It tasted like protein powder in the worst possible way. No banana flavor, no strawberry flavor. If I wanted a horrible protein-flavored shake, I would buy the myoplex drink over-the-counter for $4. This is double the price and tastes exactly the same.
