My gosh this place is so over hyped I swear. We ordered the strawberry and mango shaved ice. I probably didn't care for it too much since I know I could basically find the same thing back in New Orleans, and I wasn't too impressed. I do amend them for being more than generous with their condensed milk and fruits, but the ice was a bit too rough for my taste. If it was a bit smoother, I would have enjoyed it more. My advice? Skip the shaved ice and go somewhere for snow ice for a smoother experience. read more

After eating in the surrounding areas whether it's for lunch or dinner, I always make room for Juice Box! I love their fresh fruit iced tea and their fresh fruit shaved ice. My favorite is when mangoes are in season, you can just have a purely mango shaved ice. YUM. I'm a stickler for the things I like and never tend to stray from these orders, but I hear their avocado smoothie and watermelon juice are refreshingly tasty. It gets crowded on the weekends, especially after dinner time. Other than that, make sure you bring cash as that's all they accept. Key thing to know: CASH ONLY. You'd think I would remember that 95% of Chinatown is cash only but I don't... When I do have the luck to carry cash- or whoever is unlucky to be with me at the moment carries cash- I always opt for the Mango and Strawberry on Shaved Ice. Smothered in condensed milk with a hefty scoop of ice cream, the ice is great for a hot day, ie any day in Texas. Also, it's particularly delicious in the summer when the fruits are in season. We stopped in after lunch for a little something sweet. We tried the fresh fruit tea and shared a mango strawberry shaved ice. For me, the tea was too sweet, but it was refreshing and tasty. The texture of the ice was nice and soft (not as soft as hawaiian shaved ice, but still pretty good), but there was way too much condensed milk on it. Overall, this place it just okay. Oh wow. The shaved ice with mango, strawberries and banana with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was delicious. I went in not knowing what to expect and left anxious to come back. Not bad snow ice cream. The ice and fruit was the best part: Grass jelly, condensed milk, watermelon, mango, strawberries. Not big on the scoop of tradtional dairy ice cream though. Order without it! One was enough to share among the 7 of us! Definitely light and just the right amount of sweetness. What else can I say, Asian people just know food! This is our favorite shaved ice place. The shop is small and can get crowded but they always have very fresh fruit and we are never disappointed. My favorite is the shaved ice with mango, watermelon, and strawberry. I've had their fruit tea but it's just not my thing. Prices went up a bit and it now costs $6 for ice. When we come to Houston, we almost always make a stop @ Juice Box. It's not cheap, but there's something addicting about it. We always get the mixed fruit shaved ice, which is mixed fruits on top of shaved ice drizzled with sweetened condensed milk and topped with a scoop of strawberry ice cream. The fruit has always been fresh -- pineapple, strawberry, cantaloupe, melon. The serving size is reasonable for 2 people to share, but I always want more when we get to the bottom. It is over $6, so we refrain. The one thing I wish the would do: up the quality of the ice cream -- if they used blue bell instead.... oh man! read more

One of my favorite places to get shaved ice. The place is a little small for a big group (6+) with all the people that come and go. It's filling and the fruits are nicely cut in spheres. Nice place to hang with friends for dessert. read more

Went here for the first time with some friends and I'm so happy they introduced me to the world of Taiwanese Shaved Ice. Since this was my family's first time at Juice Box, we were like kids in a candy store! Going in clueless, I order the Mango and Milk, my son ordered the Chocolate and Banana, and my husband ordered the Mixed Fruit and Milk. Great for fresh drinks but the shaved ice is not as good as nu cafe. Juice box uses ice as the base, then add ice cream and toppings...if you like just ice and not flavor ice then this is the place. Might be hard to find a table during their rush. read more
