This is a difficult review. To start the property, architecture and decor are breathtaking however our initial interaction with the staff was subpar. I made reservations through Yelp for my husbands 50th birthday. When we arrived we were told they do not take reservations then in the same breath addressed me by name and said that she sees my name on the list. Told the wait would be 15 to 20 minutes. The restaurant was literally at 15% capacity. We strolled through the beautiful gift shop. Then we overhear the hostess ask another couple that was also looking around while waiting if they would like a glass of wine while the perused the gift shop. We walked passed the hostess several times yet we were never asked. We then decided to head to the bar that at the time was vacant. The bartender was in the process of making a few cocktails and literally walked directly in front of us and said not one word. Even once the cocktails had been retreived by the server we still had yet to be acknowledged. The bartender had amble opportunities to at least say hello but choose not to. At one point she came around the bar passed us and after she was about 20 feet away turned around and said she would be with us in a minute. This was over a period of at least 8 minutes. We were seated at our table before being able to place our drink order. John Taffer would have blown a fuse at this lack of service. Our waiter Matt? was such a breath of fresh air. He was super nice, upbeat and knowledgeable. Our food was great and came out in a timely fashion. All was good. That did not last as now the bartender that was maybe 12 feet away was having a louder than normal bash fest about her boyfriend with what seemed to be a fellow employee. I understand that bad things happen in All of our lives but this was a very detailed bashing and should not have been done in the public area of the restaurant. Further if you are having such a horrible day it is still best not to take it out on the patrons. Leave your personal problems at the door. The rest of us have to do just that everytime we go to work. Very Sad that such a gorgeous place and good food can be ruined by a few staff that do not understand the importance of customer interaction and care. read more

Julep Kitchen was a perfect venue for our family gathering during Covid-19. We were 16 and all had a blast. The service was absolutely wonderful. However, we have been coming here since its opening and our only critique was that the food portions have become increasingly small. The grouper and scallops were embarrasingly small, especially for the prices they charge (almost $30). Most of the food served was also cool and not hot. We know the chef has changed various times but management needs to ensure that food portions are proportional to the price. This is Dillard and not New York or South Beach. We did appreciate that all staff wore face coverings. Well I did not mention before but since management decided to respond directly, we felt both the scallops and the lamb were salty and the pasta was undercooked and not very flavorful. There were zero staffing issues and everyone was wonderful. But three stars / three-and-a-half stars was adequate for the experience we had. We have been here many times before and we know the food, although pricey, has been better. I'm sure we'll visit again and this may have been a one-time thing but it was what it was. Very lovely place to eat -- and environment where you can relax inside or outside. While staying at one of the Julep cottages we had cocktails there several times and dinner one evening. The drinks and dinner were all very good. The shrimp starter was our favorite! My husband and I shared the roasted half chicken -- plenty to share and the chicken was moist and tender. This was terrific!!! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful food (shrimp app that was spicier than expected, but good,, wedge salad, mushroom soup, mousse desert with ice cream), such friendly service!! Fun drinks. Really a high end experience for me. (They have only been open a few weeks so they are graciously working out a few small kinks in the service, but humble and wanting to make everything top notch.) Take a walk around the lovely grounds and see the miniature horses and sheep as well as the herb garden! The store at the restaurant has such fun curios and jewelry. The service is first class, the atmosphere was perfect, and the food was on point. The Spinach and Artichoke dip is a must have!! My Ribeye was perfectly cooked medium rare and I could tell it was a prime cut of meat, very tender, and well seasoned. The brussel sprouts were perfectly prepared.. It's an hour drive for us and my wife and I will definitely be back to try more of this menu!! Also, the gift shop is fun to browse. Lots of great things to love about this place! read more

The food and ambience was really awesome. Very cool place, nice aesthetics, good warm feel. Everything was cool til we were offered to sit at the bar, which we agreed. Would have been better at a table by the fire place. The bartender lady seemed like she was on drugs. Speed or meth or something. Not casting shade, it was a nice place and food was amazing. But she kind of killed the vibe in a big way. We had to sit there and watch her run around the bar at a million miles an hour and it honestly made us uncomfortable. We'll be back at some point but avoid the bar and the blond leopard lady. She's gonna get hurt or hurt someone. read more

My husband and I were blessed by eating here on Sunday. The grounds are beautiful surrounded by Gods natural beauty. Walking inside was elegant and gorgeous. I am in love with this restaurant. From the moment you walk inside, you have a peaceful feeling,the gift shop was incredible, I purchased an antique saddle, then found the bakery, the scone's OMG, fantastic! We enjoyed the olive appetizer, I had never imagined something that was so full of flavor. Then the entree's, my filet was perfect, the best I have had in years. My friend had the salmon and was extremely pleased, a new favorite. We topped it of with chocolate mousse, it was dreamy! We can't wait to visit you again. read more

EDIT: I had two stars but came back to edit it to one after the response from the owner - very rude and unprofessional. If you actually read my review I had nothing ill to speak of the restaurant, their staff, etc. I actually said they were kind and I understood, just that I was disappointed - that we weren't able to eat there because the menu sounded amazing and I was willing to pay the higher price to try it. My negativity was because the short staffing seems to be all across Dillard - and if I were planning to come here and read reviews I would want to know that finding somewhere to eat could be a challenge and you might have to drive elsewhere. I have no way to know about the medical emergencies of the staff - I don't know them and they are not obligated to share that with me. That is really none of my business. I would be understanding of that, I am a 2 time cancer survivor and mom of four young kids and most certainly can understand a situation like that. I am also a business owner and understand the struggles of that as well. Rick, you may want to re-read what I actually wrote. And you may want to slow down with the snappy responses to potential customers, because I doubt I will feel comfortable trying to make reservations again or recommending friends to try you out. Original Review: I can't really review the food, but we were here for a weekend and made a reservation. They called the night before and said they were closing for the next few days due to being short staffed. I appreciate the phone call and they were very kind about it. We went here last year and loved it...couldn't wait to return with our family. They do a lot of things right. The atmosphere is amazing. It's gorgeous. The music is fun. The waitress was darling and very fun. The food is so delicious. But this is where I have a real problem. I was told I wasn't allowed to share food with my son (I wasn't terribly hungry, just wanted something small), so I tried to order an appetizer for my meal and was told I wasn't allowed to order that for dinner. So I said I just wouldn't get anything. I was then told I had to order an entree if I was going to sit at the table (what!?!?), that was the rules, but she would box it up for me if I wanted. So I had to order a $50 meal in order to sit at the table. Ok. Whatever. So my family ordered a few drinks and appetizers and all 8 of us ordered an entree. With our large fish dip appetizers, they served naan. There was much more dip than naan so we asked for more naan. We were told we would be charged for that. My goodness. Our bill was well over $600 for 8 people and they couldn't give us enough naan bread to finish our fish dip. Our entrees took over 30 min to get to our table, which if we weren't nickel and dimed for everything else I wouldn't have even cared due to the lovely atmosphere. Super disappointed and won't be going back on our trips to Highlands. read more

We love Julep Farms and the restaurant! Unfortunately, this was a one star stop, as the restaurant was not open! They did not update their YELP site, which we booked via the Julep Farms website, so we had a confirmed reservation for dinner at 6:30 on Wednesday night. There were 5 employees behind the coffee bar who were much more interested in talking amongst themselves than engaging or even interacting with us. The gift shop was darling but very overpriced (I must mention, I wouldn't have noticed had everything else been better). We made a reservation ahead of time, and when we checked in they said they only had inside available even though every table was open outside on a beautiful day... it seemed like the servers simply didn't want to go outside. The dining room and menu suggested upscale fare but unfortunately the food disappointed. Ordered a Moscow mule which is hard to screw up but somehow they put so much lime juice it was too bitter to drink. Ordered what was described as a bone-in pork chop, medium, but received a bone-dry and flavorless pork loin instead. No sear, and very little flavor as there was barely any seasoning. The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes were excellent, but those sides should never outclass a pork chop in north Georgia where quality pork is readily available. I didn't eat half of the pork but they charged me anyway, and though the dining room was nearly empty the chef simply relayed his apologies through the waitress. "It was an end piece" was the explanation, as I was handed a full bill. Everybody has an off night; how you handle it is important. For what they charge, if you fail to deliver as advertised you should come out and say so yourself. I won't be back. read more

I'm giving a generous 4 stars for the overall effort and ambience of the entire property. I appreciate all that has gone into creating this little jewel on this gorgeous piece of land. The pros are the land, the beautiful buildings, gardens, animals, views, gift shop and decent food served in a lovely environment. The food is ok, not great. The crab cakes had a little too much breading or filler but still a nice flavor and topping/sauce, especially the fresh corn. The service was extremely slow but the server was very sweet. The place suffers from the same issue so many places do, they can't get enough people to work! I'm not sure what the answer is other than to level with diners up front and be apologetic instead of diners having to constantly inquire about their order. Also, offer a complimentary dessert or cocktail - that would go a long way when the wait is so long. Hoping things improve for this place. So much going for it! read more

Not good. They advertised a new year celebration and asked three times to the waitress if they have a celebration and she said Yes! Then we decided to stay and pay the absolutely overpriced food,, spent 180.00 for a salmon which taste to nothing with a broccoli that I was not able to cut it, very under cooked, and then it was not dj or celebration music, it was a big disappointment get into a restaurant who advertised a Celebration and was not celebration at all, very expensive bill and now because I am complaining the staff is answering to me saying that I am lying about the music and about what the waitress said to us!!! read more

Not sure where to start, but I guess I'll start with the food. The basil pesto was dry and very very bland, zero taste. My wife got the thing and hers was the same way and some of the noodles were still crunchy. I got mine with shrimp and it came with 4 shrimp and it was 8.00 more. Really 2.00 per shrimp? When mine was brought out even the waitress thought it didn't have shrimp and sent it back, only to be told it was on the bottom. Our other friend had the chicken tenders and they were terrible, zero flavor and very bland. Her husband had a burger that he said was ok but nothing special. This place is trying way to hard to be trendy when it should focus on their food. Try maybe putting seasoning on it to give it some flavor. The view and setting is beautiful. Unfortunately the food was a complete let down. We where celebrating a birthday and so we wanted this to be special and good. You would expect at these prices to be served bread, you will be disappointed, to know you won't be getting any. My wife ordered grouper. It was fishy, not white and flaky like normal grouper. We were returning from a trip to Highlands from Atlanta today and stopped for lunch at 11:30 We were seated right away yet it took several minutes before someone came to ask us for a drink order we ordered our food after waiting about 4 more minutes for the waitress to return. That was not too bad but then it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Someone maybe the manager he didn't introduce himself noticed we had been sitting quite a while and came by to let us know it wouldn't be too much longer. I made the comment that it had been over 30 minutes. No apology and just said they sat many tables at once. We did not leave until 12:45 It's too bad because it looks lovely. They need better kitchen management. I noticed the table near us of 4 took well over 45 minutes because they were seated and had ordered before we arrived. read more

Top notch! High end establishment with great food service. My pork chop was a little under/cooked but the took it back and got fixed the issue with no problem. The server happened to be from Liverpool, England which only added to our good time since we support LFC in the premier league. Don't hold that against this place. It's fantastic and you'll enjoy your time no matter where you're from or who you may support. I added this last part bc it's worth noting their diversity in culture. Loved it! read more
