Sad that the website said the Red Barn was open but when we arrived they said " no food today" Had to drive back to Clayton for lunch.

The cinnamon roll was tasty - not too sweet, not too dry, not too moist - but it would have been better if it had been served warm for eat in diners. We ordered a variety of breakfast dishes, including corn beef hash (too salty even for me), calf liver (overcooked and dry), egg plate, and quiche. The egg part of the quiche was good but the crust basically uncooked. Each dish came with a biscuit, which had a great tang but interesting texture more like cornbread or coarse cake than flaky biscuit. The most annoying thing is that our food took 30-45 minutes to come out even though were were the only ones there? With no communication of the wait. They didn't even bring out the premade cinnamon roll as an appetizer until I asked. We were so hangry and were met with disappointing taste to boot. Logistics: - indoor seating only - strip mall parking in front but it was pretty full at peak weekend brunch time due to the other cafe next door

Mountain Grill - I guess we came AFTER the crowd. Late means no grits, no gravy, and no biscuits. Grits!!!

We started with the beef empanadas, which were traditional, flavorful, and perfectly done. Then came the Cubano, and wow, absolutely outstanding. The pork was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender with just the right amount of crispy pieces that gave it incredible texture and flavor. We also ordered the Cajun Arroz con Pollo, and it completely blew us away. It was packed with flavor, the crispy chicken was truly perfect, and the Cajun seasoning was spot on, bold and delicious without being spicy. From start to finish, every bite was memorable. Add in the cool downtown Clayton vibe, and this place is a must visit. We'll absolutely be back.

The salad came with a whole avocado over fresh salad greens, tomatoes, pork and black beans. My only complaint I got full too fast. The ropa vieja was packed with flavor too. We had a shot of Uncle Nearest that was a generous pour. We will definitely return and encourage any visitors to make this a must try! Update! I wrote this review before we got our bill. The Uncle Nearest Whiskey shot was priced at $6. We were charged $10 and stated we had Jack Daniel's whiskey! When we pointed this out to our server, she said, "oh no, we have new menu prices, ok?" No, this is not okay. We should have been told this when ordering. Unbelievable the way she dismissed us.

We found RS to be an attraction for families with children, especially in the area with low-top tables. On the day we visited, children of various ages were running back & forth to the restroom, standing in the walkways, yelling, crying, etc. If yours is an adult party, I recommend you sit at the high-top tables, which are in a separate area. Our waiter, though he seemed detached, was knowledgeable and helpful concerning food sensitivities. Because they do not have GF bread or buns, and use gluten-containing ingredients in their sushi and soups, I ordered a smash burger with no bun, and a side of vegetables. This was very tasty; I ate every bite of the burger. Hubby ordered the California Roll. I was unable to taste these, as the imitation crab has gluten-containing ingredients as a binder. Even though RS does not have many GF options, I would return just for that burger!
