I had a horrible experience here, and I DO NOT recommend getting any animal from this store. I was told the man raises all these snakes and knows all about them but the size and conditions of the snake enclosures was entirely way too small. The man was helping a customer and the customer was upset about the taxes so the man was huffing and puffing around the store as I was trying to see the snake I wanted. He told me I couldn't see her cause it was almost her feeding day and she wouldn't be very nice. When I asked if I could put a deposit down for the snake, he immediately said that I could hold her and plopped her right into my arms so I could walk around with her... The snake was fine; he gave me no guidance on how to hold her, care for her, anything of the sort. When I wanted to buy her, he told me a 20 gallon enclosure would be fine for a few years. I was hesitant to get the enclosure due to the price but did it anyways. I immediately came home and tried to put her in the enclosure and realized it was WAY too small; I needed a 40 gallon, so I had to return that. He gave me a huge hassle about returning the enclosure and knocked off $60 due to using a small bag of bedding.... Yesterday I had to take my snake to the vet due it having mites and a respiratory infection. I've had this snake for less that 2 weeks and it's already sick. Their animals are mites / ticks carriers. I am treating from scabies that I got from rats purchased at Jules Pet shop. Just found a previous review from here stating that their snakes also have mites, so I guess birds and other animals do as well. Their animals are in very tight enclosures and some of them are not looking good. When you are appealed by the cheap price of an animal, think about how much money you will spend on your treatment to compensate the "good deal". read more

THEY WENT AGAINST AGREEMENT AND SOLD MY GUINAE PIG OUT FROM UNDER ME AFTER I MADE A DEPOSIT AND HAD A RECEIPT. NO CALL. I'm honestly very sad about it... I am not usually the person to write reviews but I feel the need to let folks know about my experience there and why I will not be coming back. On a Wednesday I went into Jules Pet Shop looking for Guinea pigs. I really bonded with one specific Guinea Pig and just loved her tbh. I didn't have a cage set up yet so I didn't feel it was responsible to bring her home just yet. I called the next day and asked if I could purchase her and have them keep her for a little bit until my cage comes in. They said they "do that all the time" and that it was "no problem" so I asked them to put a sold sign on her cage and they said they would tell the other people that work there. I went to Jules Pet Shop later that day and put down a deposit and got an official receipt and everything. I checked to make sure there was a sold sign, which there was, and I held her for a little bit before I had to leave to go get her cage set up. Once I had, I came back on a Saturday thinking I was going to pick up the wonderful guinae pig I had bonded with and was so looking foreword to adopting. When I came to pick her up I noticed she wasn't in the cage. I waited while they looked downstairs to see if they put her down there. They then called back up to the desk that they had SOLD... SOLD... my Guinea pig who I had made a full deposit for and had a copy of their receipt that had my PHONE NUMBER on it. They did not bother to even call me to ask if I still wanted her. I left distraught and I'm really sad about it still. I think they were just going to take my money and sell her to someone else assuming I would just forget??? I certainly will never come back. To me it shows how much they care about both me, as the patron, and the animal. My feelings are hurt and I'm not even trying to be dramatic. I just wish I had my Guinea pig I had bonded with and PAID for. read more

We bought our red eye tree frog from here a little over a month ago and we couldn't be happier. Sushi as we named it has definitely grown on the whole family. We've had no issues since we bought her home. And she's been a prolific eater since day one. Crickets don't last more then two minutes in the terrarium with her. Everyone at Jules was very nice, very helpful and willing to share knowledge. Thank you on behalf of my family. So i had bought a ball python from this store. And let me tell you it was the worst decision of my life. The poor thing had mites to the point it was anemic, underweight, and has just been a costly issue all the way around. All the snakes have mites. Which means everything in that store is probably a carrier. I have been going to Jules pet shop for at least 10 years I go there because I like to support small businesses and the people there are super friendly. I've spent thousands of dollars with them over the years but recently I've had problems with them couple months ago I spent $750 and $120 on a lovebird which I told them to pick out and I pay for it when I got home I had a parakeet instead of a lovebird I called him immediately and said hey man you gave me a parakeet instead of a lovebird and their answer was the guy that put that bird in the box for you it's been working for us for 37 years and never made a mistake. I said wow I need to shake his hand because I don't know of anybody who's never made a mistake in 37 years. Finally David the general manager said will give you half off on the next shipment of lovebirds because they were out of them I said that's not good enough I need to hear that from the owner's mouth whose name is Charlie he came running down the island said yeah that's all we're going to do we're going to give you half off and I said no I paid for a lovebird I want a lovebird in return David said that's not going to happen. I said I need to hear that from the owner's mouth and the owner whose name is Charlie came running down the island said yeah that's it all we're going to do is give you half off on the next shipment and I said take a good look at me cuz this is the last time you'll ever see me in your store and David's cop out phrase was have a blessed day.. so a couple days ago I was a block away from the pet shop and needed fish food so I decided to give him another chance David wasn't there and the kid that runs his store when he's not there's a super nice guy who will do anything to please you I bought the fish food and they had a canary there which they were selling for $100 which is a good deal and I told him I would come back for the canary when David wasn't there. I came back the next day bought the canary took it home and two days later it died. The pet shop has a big sign in the store that says if for any reason you are dissatisfied with the pet you bought or it dies for any reason we will give you half off on the purchase of another pet. So I told the kid who was there that I wanted another Canary he called David and David said no we're not going to give you another Canary half off because you do this all the time I said what are you talking about I said the sign in your store says you get another pet half off and then I said what about the lovebird that I never got half off he said we're not going to give that to you either so just to let you know and all the people that will continue to go to the store this pet shop selectively decides when they will give you a return on the patch you bought. Petco has a return policy where if your pet dies for any reason you get another one free not half price free or you can get your money back all of it no questions asked so my suggestion is to anybody who's had a similar experience with jewels Petco is a fantastic pet store and the people are much more knowledgeable than the people at Jules pet shop. I for one will never ever set foot in the store again I have given them every opportunity and they have failed every time. Absolutely shocking how this place has not been shut down. Birds are crammed together in strange containers like at a grocery store. Filthy conditions and obviously the birds are stressed and unhappy as most of them have plucked their feathers. Mice and small animals look dirty. Large reptiles stuffed in shoebox size container barely bigger than him. Owners and staff were extremely abrasive when confronted about the appalling conditions these poor animals are trapped in. Learned a lot about axolotls and their care as well as adopted a copper and albino axolotl ! Victor put together a care kit for them and I couldn't be happier. This place is absolutely disgusting. The animal care here is deplorable, specifically for reptiles (see photos attached). There are no hides, heat lights, or UVB light, just led strip lights. One enclosure maybe 8x8 inches had 3 savannah monitors that looked to be at the end of their lives. Their small animal cages were dirty and disgusting, they were all scared and helpless in these nasty conditions. Birds were cramped and in dirty cages as well. It's literally unreal. I will be in contact with the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Animal Care and Welfare. read more

This place will literally lie to you about their return policy, just so they can't give you a refund. It's childish and disgusting! The manager is extremely rude and doesn't care about the well-being of the animals since he keeps them in such small enclosures. It's time to close this place down! (Besides the animal abuse) my story: I tried to return a $143 birdcage but could not (the staff was rude and it seemed like they didn't even know their own rules) : I bought a big bird cage here on April 8 (9 days from today) Keep in mind it was UNUSED. From the start it seemed like they didn't want me to return the cage, mind you I had called beforehand to ask if I can return it, and they told me as long as it's not used I can but nope, I go to the store and it's a different story. Said I was past the 7-day policy, ( I said no one told me about a 7-day policy and the guy gets smart and said it's on the wall, as if anyone who goes inside the store goes to look at the walls) he also said it was on the receipt, so I read it carefully and both the paper in the wall and the receipt says "7-day policy return for LIVE ANIMALS" and when I told him that, he said "well it's for everything" like how was I suppose to know?! Then he said that they have to change the paper because its wrong that its actually a 15-day return policy and that they need to change the information (I didn't realize I was on the 9th day or I would have said something) It's annoying because the cage was $143 and it literally sucks, it's so weak and the doors keep coming off. When they sold it to me it had spider webs and dust. I honestly bought it out of impulse. I'll admit I got upset because the guy was being so rude and usually, stores have a 15-30 day policy so I thought this store would be the same (i've worked at pet stores, and it's a 15-day policy return for animals, and 30 for items. definitely cages) So I left since the guy was not trying to help me or figure out a solution. Once I leave he comes out and says "hold on" but I was already half way to my car and honestly I didn't stay to talk to his rude self, my sister did (we drove separate cars) and she said he said they can give me half of the money back, like are you crazy? and I think the other half store credit but again the cage was never used and I was not at fault, no one told me there was a "7" day return policy, I was just told as long as it's not used and theres nothing in that store that I would want to buy, nor do I want to support the store with the way they treat animals and their customers. But anyway If you're thinking of buying from here don't, they won't work with you. They also have animals living in tiny enclosures! Its abuse!!! I don't want to support this horrific place which is why I didn't take the deal with half of the money going to store credit. I will never buy from here again! And it's weird because after saying it's a 7-day return policy the guy said it was actually a 15-day return policy. If so, why didn't he take my return if I'm barely on the 9th day????? This place is the worst! The way they have birds in small not even cages looks like boxes and containers with no holes to get the birds their necessary oxygen. The big birds are literally in the smallest containers I've seen in my life! They also have ferrets that are literally cramped together with no sunlight! I can't say enough positive things about this pet shop! We went in to get some fish for my daughter's birthday present. I know nothing about fish, and the guys there were so helpful and patiently answered all of my questions. I bought a package special that included a tank (which included the filter, heater, and light), fish, pebbles for the bottom, water w/healthy bacteria, and 2 plastic plants. Such a help for a newbie. I'm pretty heartbroken after visiting this place. Bunnies without water, dead fish in the tanks, fish in tanks too small for them, no fresh food given to the animals, and the rats and mice kept in drawers, squished with bedding in their water (also, water bowls, not bottles...) and literally stepping over eachother. There was a small hamster in a FISH TANK that was on sale as a "package" and it had a rash on its back and was scratching. I told the owner that the hamster looked sick and he should take it to the vet, that if it were mites it was easily treated, ect. He asked his co-worker to bring the hamster downstairs and they would take it to the vet...but somehow I doubt that :/ He also asked me if I wanted to keep it free of charge, and I was so upset that I nearly did, however I didn't seeing as I didn't want to risk bringing mites into my own home. Don't support this place. They treat the animals as a commodity and it's disgusting. They aren't housed properly and look so frightened. read more

I'm not really sure why everyone hates this place so much. I bought a little friend for my pet rabbit today, and my experience was nothing short of wonderful. The owners are friendly and knowledgable, when I told them I don't really feed my rabbit pellets, opting instead for the healthier option of hay and fresh veggies, the man praised me, rather than trying to convince me that pellets are just as good. Earlier in the week when I stopped in to inquire whether it would be okay to bring my existing rabbit in to see if there was a bunny she particularly liked, they were very encouraging, something I haven't encountered at a lot of pet stores. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the conditions the animals are kept in, but really, I've seen worse at big chain pet stores (I won't mention names, but you guys know what I'm talking about). I've been coming to Jules since they were at their old location and I've never seen any of the things people are talking about in here (bunnies without water?! Never!) No, Jules is not some sort of small animal paradise, but it isn't a permanent home for the critters, and it's better than a lot of the places out there. I'm deducting one star because $65 is a lot to pay for a rabbit, but the little bundle of sweetness and light was worth every penny. She's happy, healthy, and seemingly well-adjusted and if a pet store can provide that along with friendly service, they're okay in my book. read more

All the mammals and reptiles and birds are in too-small enclosures, none of the substrate looked clean, many of the animals were mislabeled as the wrong species, and the floors in the aisles were dirty and had puddles. If you're looking for a pet, go to a rescue, this place is part of the problem, and spending your money here only perpetuates the wrongness of their business model. read more

Neighborhood business, I want to support you. But you charge $8.77 for the same brand cat food (Purina Complete) that Family Dollar charges $5.52 for. Is the additional 3 bucks because it's vintage cat food? Or cause it comes loaded with the bonus prize of a small plague of flying mothlike bugs? I feel bad leaving a poor review. I understand that it's a small business, which I whole heartedly want to support. Everyone on the review seem to address how friendly and knowledgeable the staff is! I try to give the benefit of the doubt with businesses, but I found a few flags that were a little concerning. A few weeks back, I came by and found two dead hamsters that seemed to have been squished. I was also concerned about the ferret, which was literally cramped in a small box and sleeping in it's own feces. It makes me really question the living conditions for the animals within the space.I only bring this up in hopes the owners can be aware-- it's one of the only local pet shops in town and I would love for it to continue to thrive. read more

This store is horrendous. Deplorable conditions. The fish side of the store was not as terrible as the reptile side. I didn't even notice they had a wall of reptiles available. How could you not notice, you may ask? Well of the 15 or so tanks they had (ranging from 5 - 10 gallon) not a single one had a heat lamp, water, food or proper substrate. The tanks were all terribly small. They had a Savannah Monitor, trying to shed, in a 5 gallon tank (remember no heat source or water which means no humidty), a golden tegu in a 5 gallon, at least a 4 foot redtail boa in a 5 gallon tank. They had ball pythons, bearded dragons, and veiled chameleons. All in improper, dirty, waterless, heatless tanks. Most of these animals were either on astroturf or bare glass and looked sickly. I did see one tank we a heat lamp, still no water or food, but as I got closer I saw it had 2 box turtles in it a little larger than softballs. This was probably a 20g L breeder tank so it was at least better than the other animals had it. I then noticed that housed with these turtles was an iguana about a foot long perched on a branch near the top of the tank. Why on earth would you house an iguana with turtles? They need completely different care and diets, not to mention the potential harm they could inflict in eachother. This shop needs to be shut down. They can't properly care for the animals they have and I don't believe they care to change. I'm 100% behind supporting local businesses but the best thing that could happen to Jules Pet Shop, is for it to shut down for good. read more
