A+++! I cannot say enough good things about Kriser's Bucktown location! The employees are so friendly and caring. From the moment you walk in, you can tell they truly care about their work and the animals they service. I took my cat in to have her nails trimmed and was blown away by the top-notch service Matt provided. He was so kind and compassionate towards me and my pet. My cat usually loathes having her nails trimmed, but that was not the case at Kriser's! Matt was able to place her on the table and get her nails trimmed in no time with zero fight. She was evening letting him pet her - it was truly a miracle! The store itself has a wide array of pet food and supplies. It is clean and nicely laid out. I will be visiting here often! read more

Employees are nice, and my dog has gotten her hair cut here once before. No problem. The weather's been super hot and humid lately, and I was desperate for my dog to get her hair cut. I took her here yesterday, and her hair was botched. I was shown a board of what fur would look like after using specific clippers. My dog's fur was shaved down pretty short. She does not look like a terrier at all. When I picked her up, the groomer said I forgot to show him a picture of what I wanted. I was about to pull up a picture, but he showed me the board of fur and took my dog to the back right after. Also, her appointment was for 230, but her groomer said he was running behind. I got a text a few minutes before 5 saying she'd be ready in 15. I texted back I'll go hop in an uber and be on my way. A few minutes into my ride, I get a call from the store asking for my ETA because apparently if I get my dog after 530, I'll be charged a "boarding fee." Huh? I was never told about this fee and not my problem the groomer took longer than anticipated. Luckily, I got there in time and wasn't charged. read more

There are plenty of other overpriced grooming in the city to deal with an operation like this. Save your time, money, and frustration and go somewhere else. Now that I've had time to cool off, please avoid this place all cost!! I had a 2:30pm grooming appointment yesterday for my 8lb havanese. I just chose the groomer who had availability, and went against my better judgement because the groomer that was assigned (Junior) looked incredible sketchy online. I arrived to my appointment early around 2:20pm, and before he even touched my dog, he said she was matted. She was not matted AT ALL, I literally combed/dematted her the night before. However, he insisted on taking her to the back and doing a quick blow dry to check for matting. He came back and said the COLLAR area was matted and that there would be an extra charge. I said whatever because the collar area does get matted often. So my dog was brought to the back at 2:30pm on the dot and I went about my way. At 4:08pm, I had a missed call/voicemail from him advising that she was matted in the middle of her back and needed to be shaved. I let them know that I did not want her shaved/was on my way to get her because it's the middle of freaking winter and I didn't want my dog to be cold. I live less than 10 minutes away from there and got there around 4:20pm to pick her up. When I got there, they kept asking me if I could come back tomorrow because she wasn't in a good state. They bring her out to me, and she was partially groomed on her back. I then told them to just go ahead and shave her because she looked kind of crazy. The groomer then proceeded to tell me that my dog was his last appointment of the day and that he was off at 5pm and couldn't do it. Mind you, the appointment was at 2:30pm and he didn't start until 4pm, and now he doesn't have time to shave my tiny dog? You cannot make this up!! Then later that day, my husband called and proceeded to give them a piece of his mind and they said that I signed a waiver which authorized them to shave my dog. Yes, I did sign the waiver (because I had to), so why didn't they just shave her before calling me? And why didn't they tell me that they started grooming her on the voicemail? Also, the groomer blow dried her earlier and only said her collar area was matted, then all of a sudden her back was matted too? The entire staff is shady and grimey!!! Also, they kept referring to my dog as 'he' even though she was clearly a girl with a bright pink collar AND they never asked for my vaccine forms. That stuff seems minor, but it goes to show that they're in the grooming business only to make money, they do not care about dogs!!! Luckily, PetSmart was able to fix her up the next day - and they said she was NOT MATTED. read more

Love Kriser's. LOOOOVE Kriser's. I've been coming to their stores since like 2019. This was my first time at this location. The employee at the store was wonderful and helpful, and immediately knew what I was talking about when I asked about a specific kind of pet food. I bought the biggest bag they had for the brand I wanted, and told him he'd be seeing me a lot more often. Unfortunately, after I left, I went across the street to look at a bike store that caught my eye. I wasn't aware, since this was my first time at the store, that I would be immediately booted if I left my car for even a second. There weren't that many cars in the lot, and I think it's something just about everyone does in every parking lot in the world--leave for a half a second to go look at something else. The parking company that manages the lot, "Innovative Parking Solutions" is extremely overzealous. I have a $90 receipt for the food I bought, timed at 9:53 AM. I now also have a receipt for the BOOT that I had to pay to have removed from my car, also timed at 9:53 AM. They watched me go, didn't stop me, and immediately booted me. I returned at 9:59 AM, and had to pay $170, in cash, to have it removed so that I could go home and get back to work. I was informed if I paid card it would take longer. I don't think I will be returning to this location, or to any of the stores in this location, based off of my experience with the parking co. It is unfortunate, because as I said at the beginning, I absolutely love Kriser's. read more

I could write a novel about how much I love Kriser's... more importantly I could write a whole book series about how much our pup Ernie loves Kriser's!! When we moved to Bucktown two years ago, we had no idea that Kriser's would become our home away from home. We use them for everything- daycare 2-4 days each week, the vet, the groomer, and for all our supplies. First and foremost, Cassie and the daycare team are above and beyond incredible. Cassie (and the others) loved our Ernie as if he were her own, and she was the person he always was most excited to see. She always gave us updates on how he did each day, and she would even go the extra mile to make homemade treats from time to time, send us the cutest photos of him with his pals, and don't get me started on the parties she would throw... holiday party in December, Halloween, Valentine's Day, and of course when we sadly made the move out of Bucktown, the ADORABLE goodbye party she threw Ernie on his last day at daycare (see pic attached). We love you Cassie!! The vets, Dr. Mike and Maigin, are also fantastic. They got to see Ernie grow up from his first day with us! We would always pop in just to say hi when we were going to daycare. As of now they are at this location Monday's, Thursday's, and Saturday's. Get the wellness plan!! For a good price you get all puppy shots (if it's a puppy) and unlimited visits for a full year, and you can renew each year. We got probably got $1000 worth of vet services for $250-300 - so awesome. Grooming is also a great price ($80 ish for our 40 lb pup before tip) for a top notch quality groom. All in all, I can't say enough good things about Kriser's. We got to know every staff member and they each have loved Ernie so much- they have been his second family! After my bf called 3 separate times and spoke to the front desk staff on March 13th The front desk people never told any of it to the managers. And even though the business Yelp people said they would relay my review to management that never happened either. They had no idea of what happened when I called them today. Which means they didn't actually read the Yelp review as and don't really care that a dog ended up in the hospital because of their services. No accountability or responsibility for the actions of the groomer or the establishment. The manager was trying to be professional on the phone but it was very clear that he was trying to protect his reputation and the staff and the more professional he was the more I could tell that they had messed up big time. You can be as professional as you want but the fact is your staff messed up the first time by mishandling my dog and using whatever toxic chemicals you used and then when I called to get more info you did not relay the message for me to speak with management and then you hide thinking that this will blow over. This store is located in a death wish of a parking lot so be mentally prepared to be blocked in by a UPS truck. Once you get past the stress of parking you can waltz into animal heaven, aka Kriser's. Staff is beyond friendly, Mary being the best!! I don't even have a dog but I will wander around looking at the HUGE selection of toys they have. Personally, I am a cat lady so whenever I do come here it is for cat food/toys. The barnyard catnip toys have become somewhat of an obsession for me seeing as every time I shop here I buy 2-3 of them. A hefty selection of cat food, dog food, toys, water bowls, bed and other misc items. The prices are a bit high but it is worth it if it means your furry family member isn't eating chemical filled food!! They also offer grooming services. read more

Dropped of my dog at 2pm they call at 4:11pm to tell me they couldn't groom her because she was too scared and pooped. Dog is 8 years old and been groomed professionally her entire life and always get positive feedback from groomer. These people don't care about the dogs and have unprofessional groomers. Had the audacity to try to charge me for the bath. Left immediately and called manager and got a totally different story from the initial call from the groomer. We have been going to George for the last 5 years to groom our two doodles George does a fantastic job with not just their haircuts but also helping them feel comfortable during the process. As an example, our older doodle was allowed to come with and hang out while the younger doodle was nervous and got his first groom. George has also been very helpful giving us advice how we can keep the coats in good condition between appointments. We keep going to Krisers for grooming appointments with George although we moved away from the neighborhood. read more

This store has some good employees but overall I would greatly avoid it if you care about your dog. The dog groomer sought to shame and humiliate a woman who brought in a tiny friendly dog because a note in the file indicated the dog had once bitten a prior groomer. So the groomer sought to humiliate and shame talking about how unfortunate this was and how it must be because we don't brush the dog enough etc etc and basically encouraged us to cancel the appointment on the spot. I spoke to a manager on the phone about this interaction and instead of agreeing to look into the incident or offering any apology for the outrageousness of the interaction, with zero knowledge about the dog, the manager spend 15 minutes lecturing me on how important it is that dogs in general not bite and the laws on biting and laughed in may face when I reiterated the fact that the groomer was incredibly out of line and that her response was giving me very little reassurance. All the groomer had to say was they may have to muzzle the dog to be safe because of the note and that they encourage regular brushing to minimize biting during grooming sessions. read more

The 3 star review is mainly because of the predatory private parking company that Kriser's is located in called "Innovative Parking Solutions". I am giving Kriser's 4 stars, but the location with the predatory parking company that stole $170 from me and then intimidated me gets 0 stars. The Kriser's employees are always very friendly and sweet to my dog. I have taken my dog to get groomed here a few times now and the employees are wonderful. However, this last time, I asked them to trim her hair and they trimmed it around her butt, which was great, but they didn't trim around her neck. She also didn't have the grooming bath smell that they gave her the last few times. It took a lot longer than before and she's a small dog (I understand that things take longer, but it's just hard to plan if I don't know how long it'll take since I don't live walking distance). Her nails also looked like they were cut a bit unevenly too. But I have been there a few times and have generally been pleased with everything at Kriser's and they treat my dog very well. My main complaint is that I spent over $100 between grooming/dog supplies at Kriser's and had to spend $170 after getting booted by this scam company, Innovative Parking Solutions. I honestly thought that I could park my car at the Kriser's parking lot since I am a paying customer and run some errands while I am waiting for my dog to get groomed and with covid, I'm not going to wait inside the Kriser's store. They know that there is barely any parking on Milwaukee Ave.. As I walked back to my car after running errands, this big guy who is meant to look intimidating and is dressed like a police officer tells me that I violated their absurd policy because I left the parking lot premises even though I am a paying customer. He pointed to a sign that is not that easy to read nor does it clearly indicate that you can't leave the premises as a PAYING CUSTOMER of any of the stores. After his weird speech, I tried to pay with my credit card and then he claimed that he couldn't accept it because the name on my driver's license has my middle initial and my credit card doesn't have my middle initial even though my first/last name are the same. That seemed like some dumb excuse to make sure that I'd give them cash. So $170 later, I got the boot removed after spending $100+ at Kriser's as a paying customer. This is extremely predatory and unethical to do (especially during an economic crisis and health pandemic). As I was waiting for my dog's grooming appointment to finish outside (since I am not going to wait around inside given covid), the parking security guy was just hovering there like Big Brother/police. I know we live in a police state and this is the perfect epitome of private companies STEALING money from hard working people. I like Kriser's, but I have no desire to deal with this predatory parking lot company ever again. Paying customers should be able to leave their car in the parking lot while their dogs are getting groomed. I don't live walking distance and shouldn't have to drive back/forth constantly because of this predatory parking company. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. If Kriser's relocates to a lot that is free of this IPS company, I would happily return. read more

We come to Kriser's with some frequency. It is on our walking path and our husky loves to stop in. He gets lots of treats and attention while we shop. They have a nice selection of good healthy products. The bully sticks are our pup's favorite. We absolutely love their grooming services. Bath time was a mutually unpleasant task and the "stubborn husky" would always come out during bath time. George is the best. Our pup loves coming in for grooming and gets excited when he sees George. We know he is treated well (read: spoiled rotten) and taken care of. George does a great job, our pup comes back clean, soft and fluffy. You can tell how much they love the animals. read more

As I walked away, he had the most pitiful look on his face, but as I peaked back into the window after walking past, he was trotting right along to the back. I've drafted and deleted this review about three times. But I have never been more compelled to write a bad review. Used to have the best groomer here. She left. New groomer is the biggest scheduling diva I have ever encountered. Want the same puppy cut on your schnauzer you've been getting for years? Well that requires scissors which evidently take a little more focus/attention and apparently can't be done in appointments throughout the busy Saturday. Has to be first thing in the morning or some quieter time throughout the weekday (too bad I work a 9-5). As you can imagine, this requires scheduling about 2 months in advance. You're a dog groomer. Take an appointment and do your job. I can't believe management finds it acceptable to have a groomer refuse to do a standard haircut for a small dog throughout a weekend day (except for first appointment of the day). The utter lack of customer service is just beyond me. Never coming back to this place again and am certainly not recommending this groomer or location to any of my friends/coworkers. I will, however, end on a positive. I love this franchise. This *used* to be my favorite groomer--ever--when I had a groomer who could take an appointment based on availability (like literally everyone else in the world). I'll stick with the franchise and will just get a new groomer at a different location. read more

Nice store but IPS parking monitor ruins it. Went in a few months ago spent over $100. Ran to the parking lot next door came back in about 10 min and car was booted. Chalie did a great job with my dog's cut, and the desk staff was extremely nice and professional. However, a week after her appointment, my dog began coughing nonstop. I took her to her vet, who diagnosed probable kennel cough (a first for my dog) and in trying to figure out how the dog contracted it, asked me "Has she been in any closed environments with other dogs lately?" I immediately remembered that the setup of Kriser's grooming area allows dogs to freely roam around and interact with each other, as opposed to housing them in individual kennels. Kennel cough has a 6-8 day incubation window; her veterinarian prescribed an antibiotic and cough suppressant, and my dog recovered within a week. I didn't get the impression that the grooming staff wanted bona fide proof that the dogs they groom are immunized. All I had to do was fill out an index card and check a box attesting that my dog had her full vaccines (which she does)--I also provided my vet's name and phone number--but I don't know if anyone called my vet's office to verify that information (nothing was notated in the vet's records), or if that's the staff's protocol--but going on the client's word alone may not be the best way to run a business. If you're going to allow dogs to roam around the grooming area together, obviously they're sharing air space and are likely touching noses, which is how kennel cough is communicated. I'm disappointed because I emailed Kriser's *twice* in the past weeks about this and received no reply. I'm not asking for my vet bill to be paid (even though it's hardly an expense I can afford) but for them to be more mindful of the health of the animals who use their grooming services. read more

We rescued a dog six months ago and he gets groomed every 6 weeks. Because he was heartworm positive, I took him to a groomer in Jefferson Park that's LOW KEY and does a FANTASTIC job - that said, he's through his treatment and JP is a bigger time commitment with traffic than I have time for. His grooming always takes an hour and a half. Our dog was groomed for the first time today at Kriser's Bucktown. I live in the neighborhood and brought our pup in prior to having him groomed to find out the cost. (The groomer determines the price, not the store?!) Today I was charged more than what I was quoted by the groomer last week. I was also told by the female groomer that it would take 1.5 to 2 hours. Appointment was at 11:30 a.m. When I was walking out, she said as an after thought the longest it would take is 3 hours. Guess what? Took just shy of 3 hours. Our dog is the chilliest dog ever. The JP groomer said he's one of the easiest dog she's groomed in her 20 years of experience. Kriser's groomer told me at pickup that the dog needed a break. Say what? I think the groomer needed a break. Because I was told it's usually 2 hours, I made a 2 p.m. client appointment - I had to cancel when I realized the dog wouldn't be ready. More. Our dog looks dirty still around the face. It doesn't look like she shampooed his head/face. The manager at checkout told me that their regular bather wasn't there so it was harder on the female groomer. I'm sympathic but I'm paying for my dog to be bathed and groomed. I calmly asked the groomer why it took so long and why he still looks dirty. His legs also look like they were barely trimmed even though I said to cut him short. She looked so upset and disappeared into the backroom. For that reason, I decided not to identify her by name. The manager offered for me to bring him back but the service was so bad I don't need to return. Check out other groomers in the area. This one overpromises and underdelivers. read more

I took my small dog in for a nail trim and (gross) anal gland expression in today. Likes: - The cashier was nice and gave my dog a free treat at the end of her grooming session. Dislikes: - The groomer seemed to brush off my concerns about my dogs quicks being very long due to me not trimming them in a while. He ended up clipping her nails extremely short when I only asked him to do a little. - He handled her pretty roughly, in my opinion. Holding her back legs at awkward positions, which my pup has bad knees so this was extra concerning for me. - My dog was in there for about two minutes for a nail trim and gland expression. Dude just seemed to be in a rush. - For two minutes of grooming it cost $25. I used to take my dog to Bow Wow Grooming on Chicago Ave and they are great, but have sporadic hours so I was hoping to find a place comparable but with better hours. Been here a number of times to pick up things for my dog. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They're knowledgeable and give good opinions. However, we have gotten our goldendoodle groomed here and I'm not so keen on their style. She always comes back looking so cookie cutter. Time for the 2011 edition of "Mr. Oxford gets a hair cut." I adored the Kriser's on Belmont the last time Ox got his hairs did, but let's be honest, it was a bit of a hike from my neck of the woods. Then I discovered...they do grooming at the Milwaukee Avenue (Wicker Park) location. HOW CONVENIENT FOR MY FAMILY. I didn't catch the groomer's name, but she was sweet as pie. She did a great job, and Oxford looked like the handsome little lion I had requested. No kicks or cuts on him (a problem I had in the past) and she was kind enough to hang onto him for the rest of the day til I got off of work. He didn't even seem that pissed when we got home. Usually he walks around the apartment looking rather sullen at his loss of cat, but this time, he seemed just fine. In fact, he seemed like he had a little spring in his step. Must've been his little furry boots he was sporting, I think. Competitive prices for the grooming (I think I paid $80 or so) and for the food as well. Good for me and my man-diva-cat, they sell both his preferred dry food as well as the ONE flavor of soft chicken food he will eat. We are both grateful for that. I have since returned to buy Oxford's food and will be back as soon as Oxford is in need of another beauty treatment. Another two paws up for another great outpost of this store. read more
